I've always loved the middle ground of Chicago style gun slingers who have a solid understanding of modes and all the shit to do between passing tones. Josh is one of the best at this, if not the champ. PS: I love the videos when Josh and Gales are playing together and both playing on fire. The cruise shit version of Joe B and Eric playing TBOJH. Fuckin killer.
@@tonygodwinjr7390 imho guthrie is a better session musician because his technical skills vary from jazz to metal, but Josh is on another level as a mucisian. No diss to guthrie, I regard him as on the best technical guitarists of all time, but I stand by my first argument. Josh is probably the most complete guitarist out there.
@@alexisdrosopoulos oh I love Josh Smith. He definitely is one of the greatest of our time. I agree 150%. He plays with feeling and emotion in the moment while also changing it up the way he does. Its almost like a jam session from the soul.
I never get tired of listening to Josh's playing and this was yet another flawless performance. This man is a beast who has piad his dues on the scene and I love the fact that he is making more and more of a name for himself, and deservedly so!
So instead of rebuilding my pedalboard yet another time, the never-ending quest, maybe I should just spend the next year studying every round of 12 bars here... Whew! Bad assery abounds!
I love when blues and southern rock and jazz and country and bluegrass and everything is merged into one. This is good music and I hope more will do this too. I can only hope.
I've listened to a lot of greats, lucky enough to have seen some play, and indeed, have spent a lifetime trying to play myself. Josh Smith is as good as it gets, imo. And he's the logical successor to guys like Robbin Ford, Danny Gatton, etc, who could weave all these other influences into the blues. And Josh does it while maintaining a major part of what makes blues so compelling, the feel and the tone. Would love to see him live!
@@bunnys1980 I know it's been a year, but compared to blues god like Kingfish, Josh is wayy underrated, I just don't understand why all of my favourite musicians aren't bigger...
I listen to Josh since he was about 15 years old in Florida . I last saw him on Clematis street at Ray's Blues Bar in 2000 in WPB Fl. . My daughter and son and I were hanging out with him before his gig . He was still like a kid and I laugh when I think about my son offered him a piece of chewy gum and he said sure . There all in the same age group .My daughter plays guitar and has a video out produced by Chris Henderson from the band Three Doors Down . I like to see Josh and my daughter get together and do some songs together .She's writes her own material and is more rock n roll but Josh plays everything from country to bassa nova and everything in-between. She was living in Nashville at the time Josh was doing this gig there but must not heard he was playing otherwise would have went to see him .Chris Henderson her producer is based in Nashville also .A lot of the old school rockers have moved to Nashville for some reason ??? And she jammed with many of them .
Damn, he throws everything and the kitchen sink in there!! And they say there’s no more guitar gods anymore, hah! Dunno why this doesn’t have over 1m views
This guys incredible. He’s subtly flipping that 5 position switch on the Strat and constantly playing off tones on each other- a counterpoint of tones- amazing!
Ever heard a 3 piece sound like a 9 piece? Smith is an absolute maestro!!! One of the greatest players ever!!
This mans way of mixing styles is like a dream to me. He never makes the blues boring but also i never feel like he overplays.
Totally agree. Josh is brilliant
Josh is The Boss. But I do feel he often “over-playes” af bit. But it still sounds great :-)
@@goswo can let it breath a bit more i agree
It's pure magic when he goes from soloing hard to old school slow jazz blues. Possibly the most complete guitarist out there at the moment.

Diggin’ it all, and hearing “Mr. Sandman” in the middle of it all - what a kick!
People disliked? Wtf? This guy is currently the best guitarist I can think of. And I’m a big Stevie, Gary and Derek fan.
No kidding, eh? Josh smith is an amazing guitarist. Dislikes are probably PRS players, LOL😀

Just a wonderful guitar player. I keep coming back to this. Would love to see him live.
Josh Smith, heartbreakingly good playing . a real master of tone, timing and phrasing. a true guitar genius
This may be the best extended shuffle blues in E performance I've ever seen!
From musical homage full of quotes to original ideas that range from "I can play that" to "what the hell was that," this jam was a journey.
haha! spot on. From some simple timeless riffs to WTF!!!! Amazing :)
Tripletts into bends, so smooth i went wtf
If I had to vote for the “best” guitarist right now it would be tough to not vote for Josh Smith. He is a complete guitarist. So impressive!
I love seeing the drummer feeling JOSH play... gotta give him & the bass player props too all great musicians !!!!!! *dap*

This guy is too cool. I don't know how he can play and sing at the same time with such conviction and coordination. Amazing!
excellent bluesman Mr Josh Smith
josh is a master of the old school and a great inspiration
Marcus Finnie's facial expressions ... proof that he's got a good 'ear' for this style. Well done!
I love when blues and southern rock and jazz and country and bluegrass and everything is merged into one.
This is good music and I hope more will do this too.

same bro.. he covered it all as far as I am concerned!!!!
WE can only hope! Americana at its finest!
Josh so damn good 💯😎❤
FABOULOUS !!!!!!!!!! I love your blues
Keep coming back to this clip...awesome trio led by the maestro. Drummer is sublime with his understated style and the bass fits in perfectly as well.
I agree, this video is a 'must watch it again' clip. You're right about the drummer, he shows his passion on his face.

Ist das Beste was ich an Bluesgitarre gesehen+ gehört habe. AND I HAVE SEEN A LOT. This Fusion of Blues(Jazz/Rock ist marvellous.
Never seen someone switch pickup positions so often during a solo. Brilliant!
I lost count!
and the design of the guitar allows this pretty effectively .... as does his tone count and feeling
Josh is amazing!! Another master using pickups and knobs, Michael Landau.
He's a student of SRV after all
The run at 2:55 has over the first two measures of the E is one of my favorite things I've heard in a long time. His timing is just so groovy.
An Amazing Talent with lots of soul in his bones, this is sweet!!🎸🎶
Great camera work, makes it nice and easy to learn these licks!
Josh is my favourite modern blues guy
Incredible touch, tone and phrasing. Something to aspire to.
