with the team probably leaving Sid, I think they'll really to get to come to their own and I think the show will really benefit from not having the "Sid has another mission to get us rich" episodes, which could be used for character building, but it sadly lacking that a bit
This is extremely similar to Clone Wars, you would have a purely comic relief arc with some droids, then a few episodes later you have an arc where a character is beheaded on screen, and a major character is impaled Marcy stle. Idk whats going on behind the scenes, but im pretty sure the writers have known for a long time that the darker episodes are what people actually want.
Tbh it doesn't have to be dark, just well written & interesting conflicts to resolve. For example, the CW episode where 2 clones protect a kid in Ryloth was great & it wasn't particularly dark. But for some reason the dark episodes happen to be the most well written.
For me the core team still almost feel more like stereotypical archetypes than characters in a sense. Big, strong, dumb guy. Smart, nerdy, tech guy. Etc. I still like the bad batch group, but I do wish they gave them more depth yeah, would enhance it a lot for me.
Agreed. This is one of my biggest problems with the show. If the Bad Batch members were more interesting the filler episodes would be a lot more bearable.
To me Star War's historically is drastically more compelling when there's a serious tone, tension, & stakes. The Crosshair episodes & The Senator Chuchi episodes cement that fact. I have a feeling Disney is pushing for the lighthearted elements. Not necessarily Jennifer Colbett, Brad & Filoni. It reminds me of The Mandalorian's season 2 finale. How Grogu & Luke depart then in The Book of Boba Fett "Grogu' returns faster than Sonic The Hedgehog. "Disney knows Baby Yoda is a phenomenon & cash cow". At least Favreau & Filoni are showing the viewers His development. Mando's no longer babysitting Grogu. Now Grogu's flipping around like Yoda, eluding beasts, navigating an M1 Starfighter, & actually becoming a formidable force wielding threat vs Almanites.
Your first sentence really resonates with me. I feel that they accomplished that very well in the clone wars series. They'd never show a person/alien getting impaled by a lightsaber today, except for maybe a movie.
Omega episodes I'm like "it's my lunch break, let's prepare some food and eat in front of the episode". Crosshair episode "Ok I'm done eating let's turn of the light and start the episode with maximum focus..."
TCW had significantly less kiddie bits. TCWs had entire arcs with mature themes like Umbara and Rako Hardeen. The only real kiddie episodes were the ones with C3PO and R2 as the main characters. And those still weren't nearly as a slog to watch as any bad batch episode.
Two things...first, I think what they are doing with the core team vs. Crosshair are very intentional and serving a very specific purpose. The episodes featuring the core team as you say seem much more geared for children. Thematically the team has child-like naivete, not fully aware of or understanding what is happening around them...they focus on their own thing, and when confronted with signs of what is happening they get the sense something is wrong but are due to their circumstances unable or unwilling to explore it. So they focus on the adventure-of-the-week stuff. The episodes not featuring them, especially those with Crosshair, show us what the galaxy is truly becoming, with all its darkness and moral questions, and is much more suited to adults. It's like we are seeing a tale of two worlds. Second, concerning consequences for their good deeds, doing the right thing has caused the team to fail multiple times, and Sid told them straight out that they were costing her more than they were worth. There was also an earlier episode that seems to foreshadow Sid betraying them. Still another episode tells us Sid is not doing well financially. The empire is also now trying to find Omega. So, I think it's most likely that soon the empire is going to put out a huge bounty for the batch and Sid is going to sell them out with little to no hestitation. I think this is going to cause these two worlds to collide, the batch's naivete shattered, the consequences of all their good deeds crashing into them at once, and these "children" are going to need to grow up fast. It's going to be epic.
I *wish* people didn't keep calling the core team episodes "filler" just because they *aren't* as serious as the Crosshair episodes. I agree with you when you say the show is bipolar. Like it can't seem to decide if it wants to be a serious show or a fun adventure of the week show. But that doesn't mean the adventures of the week are a waste of time, like people I've interacted with seem to think.
@@Theosake But they *do* that. Faster shows off Tech. The Crossing develops Tech too. Entombed does none of that, and I *don't* like Entombed. I... wasn't the biggest fan of Retrieval either. But not every episode is a banger.
I personally enjoy the differing tones and aspects of each episode, especially how they contrast with each other. The Batch are a family, Omega sees them as that, they look out for each other, watch over one another and when the ish goes down they step up and handle it together. Cross hair, however, chose the Empire as his family and they aren't treating him well, they aren't treating his brothers good either, and he and they are expendable, left to die. I do hope going forward they take more story risks, maybe flip the script and let Crosshair know some reprieve from his suffering and the Batch, especially Omega, see that not everything is black and white, that even good actions and decisions have horrible consequences.
I agree that the Batch should be a bit more lighthearted, but it still needs some pull for it to be interesting. I think it needs some kind of kid friendly character dilemma each episode that connects to the plot to increase our connection with the characters, and also raise the stakes a bit for the audience
I think that Crosshair's story is building up to something You see him slowly adapt to his new situation as a continuing arc. While the other has now real story, they just do a mission here and there that doesn't lead up to anything. I would have liked for them to have, even Sid mission, but they step by step led to something. Could be to join with Rex or helping Crosshair or both. But now they lead to nothing You can watch any of the episodes with the Core Team in any order you want without missing anything
@@nichlaschristensson1055 That's ridicoulous. Reaching such conclusion about the finale when there are still several episodes left to release makes 0 sense. imo there is a lot of potential to pay off some plot points that have been built up throughtout the episodes. The most obvious examples being cid potentially betraying BB, and BB being more and more inclined to help the fight against the empire. These are things you would miss if you skipped the "mission" episodes. However I don't disagree with you entirely, I'm not saying an episode is good just because its important to the wider story, there are still a few stinkers in there. My least favorite being ep 5, that one is truly meaningless except introducing us to the black lady character, which we have yet to see if she appears again.
Most of us don't like all the side quests and treasure chasing. The best episodes are when The Bad Batch help people. THAT should be their main purpose, with treasure chasing and adventures as a backdrop Right now though, it almost like there are two completely different shows. Maybe there should be. Maybe there could be a, new show called "Clone Uprising, " telling the story of Clones who leave. Some struggle. Some find new lives. Some try to harm the Empire from within. There would be some crossover with Bad Batch. OR give Temuera Morrison a NEW LIVE SERIES playing a Clone who was let go from the Empire and follow him as he deals with internal and external struggles. Give him some face tattoos and a black goatee to make clear he ISNT Boba Fett. Just a thought.
@ThorSkywalker This is a Dave Filoni show, he always does this. If you look at Avatar the Last Airbender you will see that the Gang is shown in lighthearted moments and Zuko is always in a more complicated situation. Look at the Clone Wars Anakin by himself is always darker then Anakin with his core group. Dave always picks one character to have serious adult things happen too them and a group that will have an easier more clear cut type adventure. Give this show more seasons. If his past work is any indication it will get more serious as it progresses. Probably around season 3 or 4. Dave has a pattern for doing this. Light hearted and fun at the start, and grey difficult situations at the end. In hindsight all his shows follow the Hero's Journey throughout the shows story.
Looked through Rebels as this may be going with a similar set up. Season 1 was basic hero rally. Season 2 had a strong opening, but basically went back down to one off episodes and no consequences. End of season 2 had Darth Maul as it also changed the tone of the story a little. Maybe it will not be as light as rebels or as dark as Crosshair episodes, but I am excepting the last few episodes to pull something big. That way season three will get to be a bit more complex or letting the bad Batch be involved of more bigger story moments.
Honestly I feel like the creators of the show are still trying to find their sweet spot and are still experimenting. I feel like they are unsure if there is enough of an audience for a full season of a very serious episodes, not that I wont love that. Plus an episode about an enforcer for the empire cant really be light.
Understandably, a lot people were kids when this (clone wars) show came out - [practically, being the spiritual Season 9 of Clone Wars.] - Had children. The Children who watched Clone Wars, now have Children. It seems as if the intention was to allow Parents to have a show to watch with their children, subsequently allowing Children an opportunity to be exposed to more mature themes without them being exposed to something obscene.
It perfectly walks the line of dark and silly. I don’t really watch shows for comedy but I gotta admit i enjoy the silly ones. I do kinda wish it embraced the darkness more but it has other great aspects. I definitely think the first season dint live completely live up to its potential and that we could have still gotten the character development without the boring side quests and the partially filler parts. While i may be slightly bias because I enjoy creating my own story’s that tailor to my personal preferences [aka ✨utter chaos ✨ and of course some good old trauma] it still has the base to become a masterpiece and it’s the bad kind of depressing to see so much potential get pushed to the side
I actually hope in these last eps they start to combine the serious tone of the cross hair eps with the bad batch and there’s a crossover as they meet again and we get to see the bad batch team in a more serious light
Star Wars BadBatch episodes Main Team = more lighthearted, Crosshair = dark, sad, profound, ChuChi = mystery and political intrigue involving Palpatine, and Rex = saving the clones by smuggling them offworld
5:25 That scenario sounds a lot like the Firefly episode "The Train Job" in which in which a freighter crew steals a shipment from the government for a mob boss and then discovers that the town that the shipment was going for REALLY needed the shipment. Different situation but similar dilemma. Maybe the show would have been better if the squad got a bit of the Firefly treatment. Two friends who were on the losing side of a civil war buy an old transport and build up an interesting crew and try to cover their expenses by committing various forms of crime. One of the main dilemmas the crew faced is what will we do or what won't we do to survive.
I think the problem with the Bad Batch is that they dont have any struggle other than maybe ¨survive¨ and the weekly adventure Crosshair has a struggle, trying to remain loyal to an evil empire that's trying to get rid of the ¨used equipment¨. when a character struggles, we can see how they react, and that gives them their personality, in only one episode I know more about Mayhem than about the entire bad batch
The main bad batch really should have episodes where what they do actually effects a larger picture. Pretty much every time they've shown up this season, they aren't doing anything besides going on mission of the week. In order for me to care about them, they really need to do more things of substance and quit being put on the back burner just like every other show namesake. Examples of that being book of Boba Fett was more like the book of Fennec Shand or just Mando season 3 and Kenobi should have been called The Adventures of Reva and Leia. Bad Batch Season 2 should have just been a seperate show called "Threads of Dissent" or something and been mostly about Crosshair and rebellion of the Clones, since it already pretty much is anyway.
I think bipolar nails the show precisely; it's practically two different shows with a common setting but one is really good while the other spends too much wandering aimlessly at the whims of a child. I'm glad we are getting better episodes now and I hope it keeps up but these good episodes should have been the start of season 2.
Yes, it's all intentional. And no, there's nothing "more they can do" with the core team - because that's not their purpose. The Crosshair episodes are *supposed to be* darker and more "adult", because that's their purpose. It's not anything to be confused about, it's all by design. Sometimes I feel like I'm one of the few people who sees it for what it is, and who thinks it's just fine the way it is. For me, it's like watching someone try to pull the peanut butter out of a Reese's because they think it's ruining the chocolate.
Yes, there is more they can do with the core team. So much more. Virtually everyone who watches the show feels the huge disparity in the writing quality between characters to the point many could care less about the main team. And, no offense, but you're making a really strange argument here that leaves me scratching my head. I mean, why would any show intentionally do less with certain characters (the main characters no less) and risk viewership? It's hard enough to get some Star Wars fans (a vast, vast majority of which are adults) to give the animated stuff even a chance and you think it's a good idea for them to potentially give it that chance and tune in... only to get a core team treasure hunt episode that makes them never watch anything animated again? Even though the writers are likely more than capable of consistently writing episodes that could catch their attention and change their mind about the format?
@@thorskywalker Sorry Thor, but I fail to see how I'm the one who should be offended because I "get it". Just because you're among "virtually everyone" doesn't change the fact that you're all confused and I'm not. Is it a strange argument? Apparently so - at least to a great many people. But if the writers agreed with you and not me, you'd be getting the show you want and I'd be the one confused. Here's something i don't understand, however: you like to say quite often that liking one trilogy over another is fine and just personal preference, and that should be okay, yet here you seem to think that there's some kind of objective standard, based on... what? Based on the fact that "virtually everyone" doesn't understand what the creators of the show are doing? Perhaps the writers themselves might disagree with that. I see what they're doing and don't have a problem with it. Why do you?
Your videos never cease to amaze me man you’re so level head and your vocabulary is immaculate. Great points, great perspective as always amazing Thor Skywalker!
I think that if they have the clone commandos hunt down the bad batch looking for omega it would put a lot of pressure on them and maybe force them to make difficult choices. Maybe crosshair and their stories intersect.
I said it before, I'll say it again. There's a bigger picture effect going on here. I'll eat my words if I'm wrong, but I think that all the simpler, filler-seeming stuff is representative of the illusion that the Bad Batch team have that they can just ignore the fight against the Empire. An illusion that is crumbling more and more as time goes on. Season one did this as well, with the way things started out dark, they went on the run and came into Cid's employ for a while, causing things to feel lighthearted and adventure-of-the-week-y, before having to go and have that scrap with Crosshair and the Empire on Kamino. I see a similar setup happening here. Between the raid on Rampart's cruiser on Coruscant, to the intervention of the Empire while they were fighting the Zillo clone, and now the capture of Crosshair and Omega specifically being named as the one key to controlling Nala Se, they're going to have their faces held to the reality that the Empire is something they cannot run from forever. Like Rex and Echo, they're soldiers. Not the treasure-hunters / adventurers they're trying to be. My prediction stands that season two will mirror season one, and they'll have to fight the Empire to save Omega and/or Crosshair, or they'll have to face a painful reality that Crosshair can't be saved, depending on what happens to him now that he's been captured. I also don't see a season three happening, not with the way the story threads seem to be going. If there is a season three, it'll likely be the aftermath of that illusion breaking, and them actually participating in the fight against the Empire, before ultimately falling in battle. I think Omega will survive, perhaps by her own actions, though I also wouldn't be too shocked to see her also die off screen. Either way you cut it, The Bad Batch doesn't get a happy ending, not with how things seem to be coming together.
Just look at the ratings on imdb. They're all over the place. All episodes with the bad batch feel like fillers in a bigger story where they aren't the main protagonists...because that's exactly what they are! If you want your heroes to be interesting then they need to have an effect on the larger narrative OR/AND have an effect on each other. I'd be totaly fine with them keeping the side quests in season 3 if they make them more interesting and possibly longer (4 eps) where they introduce new charcaters and places and add some drama between the members of the bad batch.
A good example of choice and consequence is in Firefly. The 2nd episode "Train Job" has the crew steal cargo (for a crime lord) that turns out to be medicine a town needs and they end up give it back. 8 episodes later in "War Stories" the crime boss captures and tortures two of their number and the rest of the crew need to recuse them.
I would have preferred if Hunter went away with Omega in order to give her childhood they never had while Wrecker and Tech would have joined Echo and maybe both Hunter and Omega would have come back at some point in the future to help the Rebellion I mean they still could do that, because working for Cid is gaining them nothing Like there were farmers in season one, why not just find them and ask them to take care of Omega while they rejoin the fight with Echo ?
Sure... a lot of the core team episodes are often more light hearted. But they still have their share of character development, of the clones learning more about being human, about seeing the wider galaxy, etc. Even Omega isn't being annoying most of the time but actually asking relevant questions about their lives. And this one was actaually one I really enjoyed. Letting the clones get a glimpse of peace (only to have it torn away in later episodes I predict), was really, really nice.
I think when Star Wars hones in on the adoptive parent-child relationship (or family in general) is when it is most narratively effective. You make an excellent point that they could flesh out Hunter’s character more since he is so motivated by protecting Omega, and it would make the core bad batch episodes more compelling. “How far is he willing to go for her” should absolutely be the question the writers explore.
I think they are doing that deliberately to show more of an arch for Crosshair, so when they kill him off it hurts more. Maybe even affects the team so they start to make some questionable choices, or flat out go for revenge.
Especially after seeing this episode I think that Crosshair's reunion with the rest of the Bad Batch will be epic. I think the Dr will re-chip him and send him after Omega. Then Crosshair will end up killing Hunter as he is trying to protect Omega and this action will remind Crosshair of Mayday's sacrifice and knock him back to reality. Crosshair will then become the de facto leader of the Batch not only as a form of atonement, but also as a way to honor Hunter and Mayday so they can join the rebellion and he can focus all his rage at the Empire and 'Do what needs to be done'. The dichotomy of 'fun' episodes vs. 'dark' episodes would collide if they do something along this tract. Crosshair would have to learn how to lighten up and the gang would learn that how dark their new world can really be. Amazing show. Love it.
Bad batch is the art of the SHORT story I agree, the crosshair episodes are way more dense with adult content and comprehension requirements of the audience
Same I hope they either ditch Sid or if she betrays them just kill her But I wouldn’t mind maybe Rex maybe (fulcrum) assigning missions to the batch that involve the empire
It will weave together, it was intentional... and I'm loving it so far. Right now the only episode I didn't enjoy was #5... but I'm watching them all again this weekend before watching #13. Maybe I missed something in #5.
@@pedrokantor3997 I think your right... its one of the reason I TRY not to pick it apart till it's done. It's already so connected, 5 probably has its place.
I want the ending of the bad batch to have Crosshair and Omega be the ones making it alive. Those 2 are easily the most interesting and if they do another animated show, and those 2 cameo in it, it would be cool to see how the 2 have impacted each other. Like omega might be a more aggressive fighter while Crosshair might be more willing to work with others.
Hmm I would say Omega is a very "Cliche" character, Tech to me is being the second best of this season seen how he is thinking outside the box and being more open heart. Obviously Omega has potential but to me she is not really that "great character" yet.
@@richardcastillos2896 Yeah that's my thing really, you should have someone like Crosshair to teach her since: A: Crosshair is the only one who hasn't really taught her anything, like each member of the team had their time to bond with her. B: Crosshair's personality could rub off on Omega and really make her into a more cynical character that would wit better when she joins live action.
@@WildWeavile I kinda agree and I say kinda because the bad batch I feel has still potential because lets be honest the bad batch as a "group or team" their adventures feel like filler episodes if the show just continue with Omega and Crosshair I feel it would not be the bad batch anymore.
It kinda reminds me of TCW. Much of it's beginnings were more light-hearted, leading to the impression is was a kids show. As time went on, the writers began to show more and more dark material, and now we have the meme compilations of all the stabbings, beheadings, and somesuch. I'm in the camp that wants the gritty details, more of an Andor-type story, not so much a Rebels-type story
The bad batch is a show that i LOVE..........sometimes But the fluff is just so........nothing. Like......i get having filler and one off episodes (a concept i do actually somewhat miss) but they filler really feels like episodes that the writers had no idea what to do with. The bad batch themselves have potential but they haven't done much with them. They feel like they are side characters that take away time from the main characters except.....they are the main characters. Echo even freaking left because he was tired of the team sitting on their asses and left. Why not use the filler to give the team members their own specific episodes (like the tech episode when he and omega help cid, or the episode after echo leaves where they have a heart to heart) more of this, not some stupid pirate crap or killing bugs.
Personally, I feel that Star Wars is at it's best when it's telling the more serious, darker, "adult" types of stories. In my opinion, I think that the best Star Wars stories are things like, the last season of the Clone Wars, Andor, Episode III, Rogue One, etc. All of which are very serious and often ask some very difficult moral questions. When the writers take Star Wars seriously, you end up getting amazing, emotional and deep stories like Andor. When they don't, you get the sequel trilogy. One thing I really feel Disney has done a pretty good job at is showing just how evil the "evil empire" actually is. This is something I honestly never felt in the original trilogy, in there it was always just assumed that the empire was evil but it was rarely ever shown outside of Darth Vader being mean to someone on occasion. Where as Disney has actually taken the time to really show just how oppressive and truly wicked the Empire is as a galaxy spanning totalitarian regime and they've done a good job showing exactly what the Rebellion was up against. You heroes are only as heroic as your villain is threatening, and Disney has made the Empire very threatening indeed.
Even in season 1 I mostly felt it's like a saturday morning kids show. Sure TCW had those episodes too. But Bad Batch even more so. Maybe it's more noticable here. Because in TCW you had like 2-3 not always connected funnier, kid friendly episodes. Then 3-4 episode long serious arcs. And then if someone just now wants to watch TCW, and looks up an episode guide cos people said so, they'll only gonna see these serious story arcs.
Imma just say it, I want omega, cid, and wrecker all to die. They hold the show back so much imo. I get it has to have more childish aspects, but they can do that with the other characters. Like, how do you have such a cool concept of a show, a renegade squad of elite clones trying to live after the clone war, but make it about going treasure hunting with a kid 90% of the time. A great thing about clone wars is that it matured as its audience did. And since bad batch is a spin off of that, it’s still retains that mature audience and almost has an obligation to keep up that more mature tone. There’s a reason everyone loves the crosshair episodes and the clone conspiracy episodes.
Facts, Crosshair has more development in two episodes than the Batch has in eight. It simply is a waste of time to give us so much kiddy filler when they can deliver hard hitting drama
Wrecker will almost certainly die. Apart from Omega he's the most "innocent" one so his death is an easy way to gut-punch the audience. Not sure about Cid. Omega will definitely live as I feel they're planning things for her down the line with maybe even showing up in the Mandoverse
@@Captain_Insano_nomercy crosshair needs his own show cody to or they should do a show about a new clone under the empire its just always good guy show stuff we need something in the grey area
Frustrating that we have to go through the same thing we went through with The Clone Wars. There's always been this struggle to find lightheartedness or comedy in both shows that works both with kids and adults.
This was a problem in Rebels too. For the longest time, Phoenix Squadron had little if any consequences to their actions and they almost always got away without a scratch. Disney always wants to play things safe, especially with Star Wars. They can't make a story that shows the consequences of one's actions can be drastic and earth-shattering.
very interesting POV on it being bipolar. Rather than just categorising it as a 'childs show' many have already done because of the fun adventures. Really hoping that these stories will make the future seasons great similar to rebels, rather than just becoming adventure of the week
I could see this being done intentionally. If it is, then I hope they merge the two styles together. When/if they do it could be tremendously devastating. That will mean a crushing loss of innocence for Omega. She slowly starting to this season. But I could see a moment coming in the season finale or sometime next season where everything turns on a dime for her and for the Bad Batch.
This is actually done better then people think, Hunter and clone force 99 left the empire and are currently trying to leave that life behind for better pastures with no knowledge that parts of the empire still know they exist and with the science team knowing they need omega to get nallasai to work for there cloning research in the hidden base while cross hair is just trying to find further purpose from his already failing attempts to survive in the empire, he sees his brothers as dead rather then betrayed and he lost his nerves when he kept losing those he once saw as different then him but now find himself clinging to be understood by the last of who will understand him and the new empire and there motives are actively working against the clones , something the rest of clone force 99 is losing sense with as they are now more integrated with the total galaxy then they are with the remains of the clone army
Honestly yeah, I started watching the Bad Batch expecting something dark and gritty, instead I started this season with the feeling that it's a kid's show, until episode 3 that is. If they made it more like that and focused on the Clones like Crosshair, Cody, Rex, Wölfe, Gregor and the transition from the Republic to the Empire would be a lot better in my opinion than goofy get rich quick but fail mission episodes most of the time.
Crosshair is in the most interesting environment after all. The growing clone rebellion is best seen through his perspective since he's still with the Empire.
I enjoy most of the episodes with the batch, but I am seeing a slow shift in tone. I wouldn't be surprised if it was deliberate as that's what happened with The Clone Wars. The first couple of seasons were very light compared to the later ones, and I feel that already when the Bad Batch goes hard, it goes very hard.
Maybe not entirely the crosshair story telling but at least give us hints that something big is coming at them like in ledgens the Empire took over Ord mantel because of Maul. So in those episodes with them being on the planet start showing us warning signs that maybe they NEED to get off that planet. Bounty hunters for the race episode, bring back the pykes to press tension on Cid's bar, have Phea contact a member of her crew or even Hando at the end of the treasure hunting episode. Just small things for us to notice or plot development so Kids and Adults could spot.
Indeed. My hope for the lack of consequences is that they'll all bite them in the ass in a very short amount of time. Someone with a grudge points the Empire (which is looking for Omega) towards Cid and through her to the Batch.
unlike most of the other disney star. this and andor have something the others dont have. and yes the mando isnt that good once the cuteness of baby yoda drains. andor needs more work however this show. ignoring the bad animation has a strong core and setting. it works great as stand alone adventure and a bigger picture. if they dont have huge plans for omega in future shows they missing out good story potential like a mara jade skywalker show.
Hey Thor I was wondering if you could also make a video on how Jedi can feel about eachother or how are they supposed to feel about eachother because the Jedi way is compassion for all but it seemed like mace windu didn’t really have any compassion for Anakin and I do wonder if mace windu can really be a Jedi or not due to how he’s very apathetic and a lot of Star Wars fans seem to think he hates Anakin but that’s not the Jedi way to hate someone but if it is why does it seem like it’s ok when mace windu hates someone but not ok when Anakin hates someone is mace windu also a hypocrite or not?
I'm unfortunately starting to get annoyed with the core team episodes. 2 seasons and none one of them have developed more then the first time we saw them. They're all started as "good people" who want to help the galaxy and hate the empire and bad people, and have remained that with no change. Real original and compelling right there. Crosshair however goes from cynical kinda mean sniper of the republic to helping the empire and leaving his squad because that's what he genuinely believes in. To being a brutal enforcer for the empire. To slowly questioning the empire he's joined and helped all this time after they cast aside all the clones and treat him like trash. I wish they'd be as ballsy with the rest of the characters as with Crosshair
My money is on trying to prove that those dark episodes have a place, and that the same crowds that like the fun silly episodes also like the darker ones. I think having "dark" episodes like the latest one with Crosshair isn't really Disney's style.
I'm kinda bummed they are treating the main team with kitten gloves. I agree that it would have been really cool to see real shades of gray in surviving A-team style, with consequences and risk. Instead it just feels like inconsequential filler episodes that are ultimately unconnected to each other. It's wasted potential. Clone Wars did the nuance better, especially in later seasons, so what the hell happened?! This reeks of higher up meddling.
The fact that the fun episodes vastly outnumber the more serious episodes are a problem. This is not a time in the Galaxy where the show should be focused on frivolity, there’s a lot of serious stuff going on in the galaxy with the Empire, the Clones, and all the experiments. Basically the tone of the episodes should be reversed to the way it’s been up to this point.
Because this is the show that have the older fan watching with younger fan. The father and his children for example. We literally see RUclips family reaction video. This is important because there lesson to be given.
What I'd like to know is if there's even a substantial childrens demographic watching this show. Like I'm sure there are some kids out there watching it but I'm betting those that do are there mostly because of the few Clone Wars adult fans with kids. I almost feel like Star Wars Animation should just accept the fact that their audience is mostly adult.
Second comment coz I'd rather not tack this onto my original one. I'm knowingly kicking a beehive here, but... When did people become so friggin' DENSE? I get that under Disney, Star Wars has had it's blunders, but TCW and now TBB are both series that, if you look past the surface a bit and think about the bigger picture, there's a lot more to it than what most of the comments I've read here are saying. There are a few here that clearly have a better grasp of it than most, but it seems like - and this goes for a lot of different IPs at this point - so many have lost the ability to look deeper and think abstractly. Instead, it's been replaced by cynicism and frustration when the surface of something isn't in alignment with what they expect! It's honestly disheartening to see, and I know I'm not the only one who feels this way.
Well, TCW was mostly a pre-Disney show and I think Thor's description of TBB as bipolar is very accurate. We are 28 episodes into TBB and the simpler stage-setting stuff should have been wrapped up in the 1st season. This last episode was great and there have been a few others this season that were excellent as well but these episodes should have been the beginning of season 2.
@@istari0 I'll at least agree to the point that this could have been done better, that's for sure. I do also consider Thor's assessment as accurate. Night and day difference. Doesn't change what boils my blood about this whole thing, though. The surface-level thinking of some people with regards to this just... Boggles my mind. Like, I've been watching TBB from the first episode, and that first one hit quite hard, in my opinion. Then the season continued and went a little lighter, with the occasional heavy hitter. That there was this ebb and flow to everything was a pretty big hint, at least to me, that they knew they weren't/aren't making a "kids" show. That's just how people have taken to perceiving it. Of course we could get into the weeds of what defines a "kids" show... That's a whole other debate. At least as the general fan sentiment has defined it, I very much doubt that's what they're doing.
I think the entire premise of the show was bad from the start. "Dad Batch" could've worked if it didn't involve so much trivial, ultimately meaningless filler, but there's just been too much of that. Stop with the damn treasure hunting, and stop the nonsense with Sid and the vaguely criminal organization they're working for. Look at what we're working with here. These guys are Republic special forces, following a long war which had a profoundly devastating end for them and the entire army. One of their squad went along with the new order, but they also found this young female clone who was created for unknown reasons. Some episodes use this concept to its fullest, certainly. The most recent being a perfect example. USE IT MORE! The Ryloth arc, the Rex and Cody episodes, the zillo beast episode, and especially the recent episodes focusing on the clones on Coruacant, these are episodes with directly connect with the greater plot and deeper story, and are so much better for it. This is a classic example of plot vs filler, and there is far too much filler.
They are walking a fine line. Focus on fun and you'll get Resistance, focus on darkness and you have Clone Wars S8. I view this as a parent friendly pre-teen show
To think charitably, it seems they're establishing the dichotomy that typifies a society falling into authoritarianism. Many people are going about their lives, enjoying themselves with their little adventures and suffering only the everyday problems that existed before society began to change. They contribute to the acceleration of fascism through their lack of awareness and not taking a stand to roadblock the progression. Others begin to see the reality of the situation and their lives become dark and troubled. They come to understand where things are headed and now have to wrestle with the fact that, one day, the groups being brutalized could be a group that includes them. When that situation manifests, it's time for the decision that shows their core character. We're seeing both scenarios here and Crosshair, now, has had his moment at the crossroads. The rest of the Bad Batch are still living their lives and making do in a universe that has its perils but none that have put a direct finger on their survival so the entirety of the societal and governmental apparatus turns against them. It's coming, though...
Hey Thor another thing I want to point out is why does it seem like Jedi can’t have their own opinions and beliefs on how life should work for them and in general it always seems like they all have to agree on the same things with every little detail but that’s not what it means to be human in anyway and Jedi are human and why does it seem like a Jedi can’t live their life the way they want to because just living your life can’t lead to the dark side it’s only making bad choices that lead to the dark side I hope you can make a video more on elaborating on the way Jedi can live their lives and all that and talk about why it seems like they all have to be like mace windu but otherwise being exiled from being a Jedi kind of thing only due to feeling differently than him it’s all so confusing I wish we could have a one on one talk about this Jedi topic so you understand my points and concerns about the Jedi topic
I think by season 3, this show will have almost fully switched over. The writers are becoming less and less afraid of making their stories dark
I feel like it's more that the Disney overlords will start to overlook it more and more and they keep sneaking in darker stuff
just like tcw and rebels
@@ryvlaw I honestly doubt it. Dav Filoni has played a part in this show, and it would take some real power to override him

Bad Batch episodes: Boring, silly and filler.
Crosshair's episodes: Dark, sad and heavy.
Nothing entertaining about filler and bad writing though.
RIP HEVY 😢 "Hevy gave you his medal...?"
entertaining? lol
@@JekPorkbricks not all of them have terrible writing, but most aren’t entertaining in the slightest.
@@shickennuggets8508 sort of. The episode involving Gungi and episodes 8 9 and 11 were pretty good.
@@critical_thinker0668 Definitely!
Thankfully they seemed to at least kinda do that with tech?
The did so that a lot with the episode where omega talks with Tech.
@@RottenMilk313 Yeah, and I really enjoyed that. Hope they do more of it!:)
The Clone Wars was the same way. Serious and kiddish some times. I think it’s normal.
I think it is definitely already happening. Episodes like 8 and 9 flesh out the Batch a lot more, but I think the decision is being made slowly
Mama always said, "The Bad Batch is like a box of chocolates. You never know what you're gonna get."
LOL
Man, that’s exactly what I’m hoping will happen.
We shall see…
Definitely wish the episodes were all like this last one. They have given us some very well written material when they choose to do so.
That last part is defo not true, you can’t watch the episodes after echo leaves before you watch the ones where he hasn’t left
@@Alex-02 okey but that is the only thing they still lead to nothing They could have connected them to a great final
@@Alex-02 theres 3 left and nothing has happened
Most of us don't like all the side quests and treasure chasing. The best episodes are when The Bad Batch help people. THAT should be their main purpose, with treasure chasing and adventures as a backdrop
Right now though, it almost like there are two completely different shows.
I hope they make a show about Delta Squad.
I don’t think they will do that
Probably best to leave Delta Squad alone.
@@NotARussianDisinfoBot exactly they should not have been Disney cannon
Maybe an episode. Their show about clones is called the bad batch. They wont do another
A lot of kids shows now treat children like they are idiots.
I definitely agree. It has been fun, but it could be much better. Let's hope they do something with the core team until the end of the season.
Firefly was such an amazing show...
I think the problem with the Bad Batch is that they dont have any struggle other than maybe ¨survive¨ and the weekly adventure
Crosshair has a struggle, trying to remain loyal to an evil empire that's trying to get rid of the ¨used equipment¨.
when a character struggles, we can see how they react, and that gives them their personality, in only one episode I know more about Mayhem than about the entire bad batch
It would help if they had an actual goal.
Always enjoy your thoughtful takes on things, TS
I think bipolar nails the show precisely; it's practically two different shows with a common setting but one is really good while the other spends too much wandering aimlessly at the whims of a child. I'm glad we are getting better episodes now and I hope it keeps up but these good episodes should have been the start of season 2.
Bad Batch is the only series where the main characters are in the fillers/side plot while the side characters are driving the main story.
I want to see the badass team we were introduced to
I wonder if Crosshair was the main reason of their badassness in the Clone Wars
Why do you?
Hahaha.
You’re reading my mind… Crosshair = Complex Stories :)
Is about keeping subscriptions going. Make a majority low effort episodes then throw in a great episode before people cancel Disney plus
Some episodes of Bad Batch feel like watching the Penguins of Madagascar but less funny. While others feel like pure art.
Never in my life I would’ve thought that the Penguins of Madagascar and Star Wars were to be compared 😂
Your videos never cease to amaze me man you’re so level head and your vocabulary is immaculate. Great points, great perspective as always amazing Thor Skywalker!
The Outpost episode was as emotionally impactful and haunting as an Andor episode
Hunter hasn't been explored enough. He feels neglected as a character.
Absolutely!
Tales From The Jundland exactly!
I would have preferred if Hunter went away with Omega in order to give her childhood they never had while Wrecker and Tech would have joined Echo and maybe both Hunter and Omega would have come back at some point in the future to help the Rebellion
I mean they still could do that, because working for Cid is gaining them nothing
Like there were farmers in season one, why not just find them and ask them to take care of Omega while they rejoin the fight with Echo ?
I think it’s the same formula they’ve always had with rebels and clone wars, they just made the line much more visible for bad batch
Sure... a lot of the core team episodes are often more light hearted.
I think the core team is just falling lost. I think they'll join Echo and Rex fighting the Empire with Crosshair.
Same they lack purpose outside of being soldiers and that’s where they shine most
Especially after seeing this episode I think that Crosshair's reunion with the rest of the Bad Batch will be epic. Love it.
Bad batch is the art of the SHORT story
I agree, the crosshair episodes are way more dense with adult content and comprehension requirements of the audience
I am starting to think so I want more complicated episodes with the core team. Would not mind the Crosshair treatment
Same I hope they either ditch Sid or if she betrays them just kill her
But I wouldn’t mind maybe Rex maybe (fulcrum) assigning missions to the batch that involve the empire
It will weave together, it was intentional... and I'm loving it so far. Right now the only episode I didn't enjoy was #5... but I'm watching them all again this weekend before watching #13. Maybe I missed something in #5.
I think whatever happened in episode 5 will eventually become relevant. Whether in this show or in another.
@@richardcastillos2896 Yeah that's my thing really, you should have someone like Crosshair to teach her since:
A: Crosshair is the only one who hasn't really taught her anything, like each member of the team had their time to bond with her.
The bad batch is a show that i LOVE..........sometimes
But the fluff is just so........nothing.
Finally someone understands me.
@@vector4753 dude! Imagine like A crosshair and Cody show, that is cutting between them and Echo and Rex. That would be pretty awesome.
It’s almost like there’s a Tony Gilroy influence with the Crosshair episodes.
Intentional or unintentional, it's fucking bad either ways. Consistency is important when telling a story.
Superb articulation of the varying episodes.
I like having the duality offered by Crosshairs being on his own path.
Though I do think the main team need a more serious episode now and then.
You made really good points about the show. It would be good for some serious story telling for the main team
The first couple of seasons were very light compared to the later ones, and I feel that already when the Bad Batch goes hard, it goes very hard.
it still infuriates me that echo does not have his shoulder pads
I think it might have to do with there being different directors? There are quite a few.
My money is on trying to prove that those dark episodes have a place, and that the same crowds that like the fun silly episodes also like the darker ones.
I think having "dark" episodes like the latest one with Crosshair isn't really Disney's style.
they need a show about a clone under the empire or crosshair it would be so good and raw darker like andor we need more of it
I'm kinda bummed they are treating the main team with kitten gloves.
Ask yourself: Which episode do you find yourself on your phone without realizing it. Yup, the Wrecker/Omega eps 😐
I thought Bad Batch was initially announced to be only two 16-episode seasons. Is there going to be a Season 3 at this point?
Making Wrecker sound dumb and act dumb was a bad decision. Omega wouldn’t be missed if they moved her on.
Thor…
You gonna drop a new fan fic on us anytime soon? Your stories are always great and I think you do em better than anyone else.
One scene they’re Torturing crosshair the next scene plucky omega is getting flying lessons with Disney jr whimsy.
They are walking a fine line. Focus on fun and you'll get Resistance, focus on darkness and you have Clone Wars S8. I view this as a parent friendly pre-teen show
I miss Echo 😭
Omega is the heart of show its likely she be the soul survivor of the bad batch when they all die of some reason.
EVERY Star Wars project starts off childishly and progressively gets darker. The light hearted parts make the heavy parts heavier. #storytelling
Maybe they have to please Disney to some extent? 🤔
