I saw The Day After Trinity years ago. As you may know, it is an excellent dcoumentary about Oppenheimer and the making of the Bomb. Your Great Uncle figured prominently in the documentary. What he had to say about the anguish he suffered for years later moved me a great deal. He said he was immediately depresed when the Bomb exploded and that depression stayed with him since. That was a very long time. ypur Grand Uncle was interviewed for Day After Trinity was made in 1980, 35 years later. It is a very moving interview in a documentary full of moving interviews. THey were all changed irrevocably at the consequences of the Bomb. Of all the interviewees, the one with your Great Uncle moved me the most and I have never forgotten the impact it made. If you have seen the doc, you should check it out.

A balanced mind will help you realize that forcing your will on other people only serves to make the world a darker place. I can't imagine being proud of a profoundly evil man who killed so many only to fulfill his ego. There is no excuse because nothing evil ever leads to anything good, ever.

It bears mentioning that in the 1920s and 1930s, Communism had a pretty large (compared to now) following in the US and around the world, and it was considered a possible, viable, system. The horrors of Mao and Stalin, Pol Pot and North Korea were still in the future, some of them far in the future.

I worked with nukes while in the air force and then at sandia after university. It got to the point when they were just mundane to me. I remember the first time I saw a plutonium pit (pu239 alloyed with gallium). It was just a ball of metal a little bigger than a baseball. No glow, no ominous music in the background and other than the sphere being a little.warm it was for anyone to see just some metal. Then one day we were out at the old test site in Nevada that from the air looks like the surface of the moon from almost 1000 weapons tests, and it dawned on me that I was in the room with a material that was just this side of matter and energys equivalence. And the weapons we were dismantling were of the thermonuclear variety which uses a Nagasaki style bomb as a detonator so I had the feeling of being looked at directly by the grim reaper who was just shaking his cloaked head at us

If you know how an explosion works and how a nuclear fission reaction works then you will realize that a nuclear fission explosion is not possible. If you don’t then here is a brief overview:
Explosions are destructive because of the blast. The blast is caused by the creation and expansion of gases. The bigger the blast then the more destructive power it has, because more gas has been released. For example 1g of TNT creates 1 litre (1,000grams) of gas. Dynamite is 50% more powerful because 1g of it produces 1,500g of gas.
The byproducts of a nuclear fission reaction include heat and free neutrons, no gas is produced. Therefore there can be no destructive blast. An overreacting lump of Uranium or Plutonium simply heats up and melts.
Nuclear fission is caused by the absorption of free neutrons by atoms of heavy metals such as Uranium and Plutonium. This makes them unstable and they break up into atoms of smaller/lighter elements. This process is called nuclear fission. Neutrons are relatively heavy particles and have no charge. They are heavier than protons and are traveling very fast and so they are difficult to stop. This is why in a nuclear power reactor the free neutrons have to be slowed down significantly so that fission reactions can take place.
If not slowed down sufficiently, the neutrons simply fly away.
Neutrons need to be slowed down by 10,000 times. This is done by using a moderator either normal light water or heavy water (or carbon). The free neutrons bounce off (scatter) against the hydrogen atoms transferring energy and slowing down in the process just like two billiard balls colliding. It takes several hours for a nuclear power reactor to start to generate significant heat.
Nuclear weapons don’t contain a moderator and therefore free neutrons can’t be slowed down and so they don’t get captured by the very large nucleus of the heavy metal and thus fission does not occur.
The probabilities of absorption and scattering of free neutrons of different speeds/energies is available from the Neutron Cross Section Tables which are publicly available via IAEA refer en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Neutron_cross_section
Nuclear fission explosions are therefore a fiction.
Now there is no need for you to read my book “Oppenheimer’s Deadly Toys- The Nuclear Weapons Hoax” although you might learn a bit more if you do.
    www.amazon.com/s?k=oppenheimers+deadly+toys&crid=NO3WT5PGME78&sprefix=oppenheimers+deadly+toys%2Caps%2C282&ref=nb_sb_noss
