I miss your great grand uncle John’s weather forecasts on KBIM back when the Indian signal went off and KBIM News came on right after. Lol I’m an ole bird shy of 55 ! But still remember him doing the weather forecast with a stick that way you got to see everything and the weather man didn’t get in the darn way. Yep I miss him!

Hi Kaitlyn, I'm working on a Nat Geo series about the attack on Pearl Harbor in this 80th anniversary year, I've been talking to Don about using this interview footage in the documentary along side other witness stories from veterans who where there, I've been trying to find previously interviews as there are only a hand full of surviors still alive and Covid situations are making filming difficult, would you be able to give family approval to use John's interview? Please contact me on neal.henson@futurenet.com

Pam Spencer this man was very intelligent down to earth tough n very passionate about everything he was like this even about his acting career and weatherman career he lived both a horrible nightmare and a dream shortly after boy was he tough and consistent he loved telling stories that was the key to grt him agoing mostly quiet but if u had questions he wouldnt hold back i miss him more than words could be explain i want to right a book thinking that he would be around forever but boy was that not the case it was always to intriguing i think that even if i had a pen and paper idling by that i would. Able to jot anything down thats how glued hes memories were. great man hes missed so dearly thank you all for ur support and noticing bless you all

I remember a history teacher from my 9th grade year in high school (1959) who never married. She asked my to do a report on the USS Arizona. When I did I noticed that she seemed to tear up a little. I later asked her if she had a special affinity for the Arizona and she answered that her fiance was an Ensign on the Arizona and he is still aboard. That is why she never married.

Absolutely my 15 year old has no idea . Really schools today don’t spend any time on the important history of our military. Really sad indeed 🇺🇸🇺🇸

I was told that my uncle got lucky. And that he was suppose to be on the Arizona but wasn't because he broke his arm.

He’s a brave man for sure. Guessing his memory is failing as at around 11:00 he starts talking about fighting at nighttime? The Pearl Harbor attack started at 7:55 am and ended about 1.25 hours later.

I think at 10:40 he may be referring to Marine planes that flew into Pearl the previous night (12/6) from the Enterprise. According to history most of the planes were destroyed by friendly fire as they were mistaken for enemy planes. Understandable for him mixing this up after so many years and at his age! My own father is 94 and gets confused about things.

John’s memory wasn’t failing. I found him to have clarity about everything. He was talking about planes coming in from a distant carrier toward dusk having no idea what has happened. But, the initial approach of the planes was met with the fear that the Japanese had returned. You can’t blame those there during the stack to live in fear that the attack wasn’t over.
