  • The USS Arizona Memorial is a significant historical and memorial site located in Pearl Harbor, Hawaii. It commemorates the tragic events of December 7, 1941, when the United States was attacked by the Japanese, leading to the country's entry into World War II.
The memorial is built over the sunken remains of the USS Arizona, one of the battleships that was bombed and destroyed during the attack on Pearl Harbor. The ship's wreckage still rests on the harbor floor, and the memorial serves as a tribute to the 1,177 crew members who lost their lives on board.
The memorial itself is a solemn and iconic structure that spans the sunken hull of the USS Arizona. It consists of a white concrete platform that is supported by concrete pillars, creating an open-air space for visitors to pay their respects and reflect on the events of that fateful day. The design of the memorial was conceived by architect Alfred Preis and was dedicated in 1962.
Visitors to the USS Arizona Memorial can access it via a short boat ride from the Pearl Harbor Visitor Center. The boat takes visitors across the harbor to the memorial, providing an opportunity to see the expanse of Pearl Harbor and the nearby Battleship Missouri Memorial along the way.

AK thanks for this video. My Dad is a WWII Navy veteran, who was luckily not on the Arizona. I went to this memorial in 2015, due to the winds being so high that day we, were not allowed to take boat out to the Arizona memorial. So, you're up front and personal view of the memorial, made my day. My dad and I watched your video together. Dad is 97 and he has been to the memorial. I only hope I can have a chance to go back one day soon. I am 73, and may not make it back, so thanks again for the upfront and personal view.

I appreciate you making a dedicated video of the USS Arizona Memorial, AK. I visited Pearl Harbor and majority of the historical sites, but USS Arizona Memorial was closed for repairs at the time. I took the ferry ride and felt the poignancy of the tragedies when it circled around the perimeter of the memorial. It's even more moving seeing it from your perspective inside the memorial now. Thank you for sharing this video, AK. 🫂 PS - Daniel, thank you for the shoutout in the chat. 🫂

Thank you for showing us your visit to the USS Arizona Memorial. I've seen many, many of your videos, but this is the finest one you've shown. War is a terrible thing, and as an Army veteran who served in Vietnam, I can say that and understand what I am saying. I think it's fitting that one can see the USS Missouri, on board which the Japanese signed the surrender document ending the war, from this memorial to the event that brough us into it. Again, many thanks!

US military personnel active or retired can get in for free. its something Pearl does to help plus the military base is still active. you simply show your veteran card or Military ID at the parking area and ticket booth. several vets actually are at pearl explaining what happened and their experiences during the war. they are volunteers with the park service making sure the history won't sink as it were.

One of the survivors of the USS Arizona, Donald Stratton, wrote a book entitled "All the Gallant Men" about how he survived the explosion and managed to escape the ship. He suffered 2nd and 3rd degree burns over 65% of his of his body. It's an awesome story of guts and courage and is available from Amazon's book section. He was there on the first day of the war and managed to be in Tokyo Bay on Sept. 2, 1945 to see the end of it.

My mother is 86 years old and can remember this announcement on the radio. Still horrified by the fact that the newscaster told that the men were heard tapping trying to communicate, letting those on the outside know they were trapped inside. Then it went silent. She said she can still smell the coffee on the stove boiling, as the family heard the devastating news and ran to share it with those nearby with cries of disbelief and tears.

Honestly I'm not from the U.S., but I felt like many people who visited the site in the day of this video weren't really being respectful at all. Like just for 1 example, dude's just feeling one up at 33:50, I'm sure the deceased would love to see that on top of their graves if there's an afterlife.

German national here... To this day I struggle with one question: Why? Why did Japan attack America? Why did my own native Germany attack the Sowjet Union? Were these people not able to read a simple map? It has once been said that Russia could have stopped the German advance simply by throwing peasants in front of the tanks until they got stuck in the mangled bodies. Grisly as that picture is, there is some truth to it. And just when we thought we were finally over it, Putin kicks off a second cold war, with China hot on his heels. Why is it that the mighty cannot help themselves kicking off conflicts that a school child could tell them they cannot possibly win? I hope and pray that one day even the mighty will learn to care for what they have instead of lusting for things they cannot possibly gain.

And there is no place for tourists there!
