    4 minute commentary on The Voice?! I feel so blessed! This is definitely The Voice's best season.

    Absolutely agree harry needs to stop trying to be simon cowel and jim carey's love child. The guy has serious chops and i love his music, but if this is what he's like 24/7 i don't wanna be stranded in an elevator with him. However i would pay to be stranded with kelly clarkson, OMG that woman can SING, is humble and funny.

    I'm with Slezak on Quentin. Quentin isn't the most technical, but I just love his voice and his arrangements and his artistry.

    Thank you, Melinda! I've been waiting since last Wednesday to hear you set Slezak straight for that B+ he gave Rayvon. Rayvon had the best vocal of the night, no question. Quentin especially had nothing on that. And I totally agree about Harry. He gets more unbearable every week.

    Is it just me, but do other people tune out what the judges say about the Idol contestants this season? It feels like they are just trying really hard to criticize and change things that doesn't need criticizing OR changing.
    That clip of Melinda singing though? I love, love, LOVE her voice. She is pure awesomeness.

    • @orlock20
      @orlock20 9 лет назад

      ***** The judges are acting for the camera,because they don't have a voice on what the contestants do now. It's up to the producers and the voters if people stay or go.

  • @tuki6364

    Michael I agree with you! Sorry Melinda! But Quentin is just special. Yes, he might not be the perfectly technical singer but he makes you feel the song plus he has tons of star quality. The others not that much.
    Go Quentin! Win or lose I am looking forward to follow his career!

    YASSS Melinda, go drill Slezak on that ranking.
    Really great move by Idol to bring Kelly back methinks. Why not bring Melinda back for mentoring?
    As for Harry, I don't get why he has to have this "Highly intellectual, musically gifted guy" facade, lecturing everyone about intonation and what not. Guy is faker than people's idea of Jax.
    AND Reverend Beckham. I love it!

    • @jamieoyster4025
      @jamieoyster4025 9 лет назад

      If I recall, Harry was a fairly legit jazz prodigy/whiz-kid, recording albums and performing intricate piano pieces before he had armpit hair, so if he projects the aura/attitude of an "intellectual, musically gifted guy" it's because he is (I'll leave out the "highly" as a compromise;). Now, could you argue that his presentation/approach is pedantic? Yeah, sure you could. I don't absolutely agree with everything he says. But he is a credible musician and I wouldn't cast doubt on his technical knowledge by calling it a "facade" or him a "faker". If he had more than 30 seconds to respond after each performance, I don't think he would hesitate to expound on his criticisms and support his reasoning if anybody really wanted know why he said this or that.

    • @sephiespeaks3677
      @sephiespeaks3677 9 лет назад

      Jamie Oyster I don't question his credentials and qualifications at all, but rather his intent with some of his feedbacks - that's what I consider fake. To me he comes across as either genuinely concerned with helping the contestants improve, or showing off how much of a musical expert he is. Why explaining the meaning of the word "arrangement" for the musically untrained is necessary beats me, when a simple "Clark your arrangement of Sunday Morning was sublime" would've sufficed.

    • @orlock20
      @orlock20 9 лет назад

      Jamie Oyster There are many musical prodigies. Sara Lov (solo and with the duo called Devics) is a modern jazz singer. There is a lot of Sara in Joey. There is an obvious market for what Joey is doing from Devics to Postmordern Jukebox. I don't know why Harry thinks Joey is being very retro when Devics is very modern and Postmodern Jukebox is the latest craze.

    • @jamieoyster4025
      @jamieoyster4025 9 лет назад

      orlock20 Hell if I know what goes through that man's mind. I assume since jazz is his bread and butter and basically the musical air that he breathes, he's very defensive and hyper-conscious of how it's presented. Maybe he's not always on the money, but his antennas are up.
      As far as postmodern jukebox being a "craze", i'm not close enough to it to say. They seem to get good numbers as far as video views go, but it takes no investment to watch a free video online other than the modicum of energy required to click the link. I only know their work peripherally, so I may be assuming some things that may or may not have already happened, but let's see what percentage of those hundreds of thousands, sometimes millions, of views put their money where there "likes" are when a real commercial project/endeavor of substance comes about.
      Keeping in mind Harry's comment about presentation, i noticed that half of the 10 most viewed jukebox videos read "Vintage" somewhere in the title, along with others (although it's not all jazz). Just by using that word, they're tapping in to some level of the novelty factor; they're emphasizing the idea of a period in time and that's where Joey is seemingly getting part of her inspiration from. Looking through Harry's eyes, I assume that's like saying "Look at use perform in this old, obsolete style. Aren't we cute for digging it up!?" instead of simply carrying it on and letting it be in the here and now without tying it to a perceived by-gone era. Harry is opposed to jazz being treated like an anachronism or like it's out of time. Is Harry reading the situation or Joey's intentions correctly? Arguable, I don't know Joey like that, I don't know Harry like that, but i _think_ i that's kind of how he feels.

    I don't get nearly as excited over Clark and Rayvon's technicality as I do over Joey's expressiveness and artistry or Quentin's artistry and intensity and I'm perfectly willing to forgive a few bad notes here and there for what the latter two bring to the table. Jax has potential and a nice voice but everything about her feels so calculated I'm having a hard time warming to her. Nick is treading water at this point and Tyanna has been slipping for weeks now. Qaasim... well... I think his time is finally up.

    • @hapexlogomena
      @hapexlogomena 9 лет назад

      I agree with you about Joey and Jax. I do love Rayvon's voice, but I also wish he'd get past his perfectionism and find the performer in him. I don't really think Tyanna is slipping, but rather maintaining.

      I'm so on the opposite end. lol. The only artists this season I'm still invested in and can imagine following after the show are Jax and Clark while Quentin and Joey, though I really did like them before the live shows, are the one's I'm starting to care less for. Qaasim is...amusing, but I have yet to take him seriously. But we can both agree on Rayvon. High on technique, low on being interesting. :)

    I never thought this in previous seasons, but, I think it's appropriate right now for Michael and Melinda to start the discussion with The Voice. Those singers are killing it relative to AI. I still enjoy watching AI, but not feeling the complete package from any contestant (love Quentin but just not the best singer) this season. Some of The Voice contestants are must see.

    I really, really like Clark, Jax, Joey and Quinten in that order right at this point. However, I will say that there is something about Quinten that pulls me in.

  • @TheNathanGeck
    @TheNathanGeck 9 лет назад +3

    For the first time ever, I have to disagree with both of you. While Quentin has beautiful arrangements, I cannot overlook his vocals. He has impeccable artistry, but he needs to learn control.
    Secondly, I have to disagree with Melinda and her blind support for Rayvon. I love that guy, his voice is butter, but we don't want to hear buttery vocals all the time. He needs to give us some raw, full-throat power vocals and I don't think he can deliver that. I don't blame him, his voice isn't capable of that, but he needs to give us SOMETHING else.

    • @ananse77
      @ananse77 9 лет назад

      I think with the first comment you are agreeing with Melinda. She said she can't drink a cup of Quentin's koolaid, because he can't technically match the arrangements that he puts together. She said he missed a lot of notes, and was criticizing Michael for giving him an A or A-.

    I live for this recap ... I hope the powers that be at IDOL make this standard viewing ... Kelly Clarkson IS the original IDOL for a reason ... and even the author Matt Morris LOVED Joey's version of Miss Independent .... HARRY have MANY Seats ... you're NOT Simon Cowell and it's not your job to make sure you say something anti-heroic EVERYTIME ... Melinda.., LEAVE QUINTON ALONE ... He's the only one that you cannot predict what he's gonna do .., unlike some others that are still singing by the numbers, within the 'safe' confines of what they KNOW they can do. And by comparison, the SANGERS of The Voice are showing IDOL to be a true amateur contest.

  • @Dennis_K09
    @Dennis_K09 9 лет назад +2

    Sorry Melinda, but I would much prefer a more interesting singer with a few pitch issues than a safe contestant who just hits notes perfectly all the time. Not saying someone like Clark isn't good but I'm more drawn to Quentin he pulls me in. In Rayvon's case, yes he was good, but it's the same thing, technically good but if they don't interest me, I'll take someone who isn't the best singer over them any day.

    On the Voice, perhaps that's a very good thing to note... Although this is a great season for The Voice, I personally think that people on the show do not make superstars because their talents are shadowed by a competition that's not theirs. The coaches compete, and so the contestants do not compete for themselves. They seem not in their own competition, thus they hardly make themselves known for themselves, which makes me sorry for some of them..
    On Idol, I have to say, they have really great talent this year... I mean, for the contestants to bring such unique and creative performances this year, compared from last year... Clark and Nick must go for top 2. :D

    Idol judges have become almost useless these past few seasons. They make no sense. Especially Harry. Harry contradicts himself all the time. He tells one contestant to stay the same, and the other to do something different. I have not liked Harry as a judge at all. He should stick to being a mentor. I need an actual idol contestant/winner to join the panel. They're the ones who truly understand the competition. The best episodes were the ones where Kelly mentored, Cook came back, Adam judging. Anyways, Rayvon killed it and is my favorite last week too. He's finally back in the game. But the stealer of the show was Kelly. Haha

    I'm shocked y'all didn't talk about Daniel. I totally would NOT rate Joey #1...Clark did get all Reverend at the end and missed a few notes...y'all totally skipped over Nick 👎 he was way better than Qassim. Queintin(autocorrect says marinating? Lol) is all flash ok voice...Top 3...Clark Jax and Nick(sadly he wasn't the best or the worst). Rayvon 4th. Joey 5th.

    Rayvon ruined the spirit of the song. It's all about the attitude of wanting to move on and giving the ex the finger. Rayvon turned into a mopey wussy Sam Smith-feel whiny rant. Wrong, just wrong.

  • @bobbypendragon7375

    Why does Melinda not see how amazing Quentin is? Her Rayvon bias is clouding her better judgment that she's had on other seasons.
