I look forward to these recaps every week. Thanks so much! It's so nice to hear an educated review of the show that speaks to the multitude of Idol tropes as well as singing vs competing on this show. I love it!
C'mon Zoanette SLAYED that performance of Circle of Life. It was everything to me. Not saying anything else she did was great but I will give her the Circle of Life crown.
On the note about Harry pointing out the "Arrangement", remember - these are viewers that vote for Daniel Seavey (probably in abundance). So, maybe we (collectively) aren't all that smart. And keep the Empire references going, I love them :)
Have to agree. Don't mean to sound like a complete idiot in music but I didn't actually know what it actually meant before he explained it. I've heard it being mentioned a lot of times but it's one of those words that you sort of take for granted.
GOD DAMN IT ALL!!!! I skipped Qaasim last week because I just KNEW it was all over. I start my DVR and am floored by the fact that he got saved! I then stop my DVR to come here (as always watch this before the next episode) expecting you guys to be PIIIIISSSSSED! Why you no help this week?!
Another hilarious Reality Check. A+ for Jason and Melinda.. and a B+ for Michael. And about the save, I´ll be fine with it if in the next couple weeks we lose the weak ones, cause if we already have some unfair eliminations (double elimination this week) while Qaasim just cant improve his vocals,...c´mon.
What happened to talking about the Voice...I'm not trying to be mean but if you say "a weekly deep dive into all things American Idol AND THE VOICE" then you should at least talk for like 5 minutes about the Voice. Otherwise, change your "weekly deep dive" into just American Idol...heck change the title of Reality Check back to Idology while your at it if you're not gonna talk about the Voice...both shows are equally good in their own unique way..end of post.
I agree. Sorry, but the talent pool on the Voice is worth talking about equally, if not more. Of course I realize that history trumps, but at least give it a shot.
As a Tyanna fan I wish last week she'd sung something more adult such as "Skylark"...Aretha did it when she was young and it would suit Tyanna's voice well. If she put a contemporary spin on it that could knock it out of the park as we know she can (and will do) as the show progresses! The idea of her going home based on last week is really too much to think about.
I 100 percent agree with Melinda that Zoanette's version was the best. My top 3 for the week were 1. Joey 2. Clark 3. Quentin. Jax sounded good but that was a little too cutesy / precocious child for my tastes so I'm putting her fourth. Adanna was decent, as well. I'm OK with the Qassim save myself. I'd rather him stick around and entertain me with his mediocre to bad vocals than continue to be bored by Daniel, Rayvon and Maddie. Jury's still out on Nick. He really hasn't gone beyond "just OK" so if he doesn't pick it up soon he's welcome to drop out any time...
Joey stumbled in Hollywood week when she forgot her words twice. Ever since then she's been AMAZING! Also..."The Voice" was amazing during the battles! How can you completely skip The Voice the last two weeks?
Okay...So where's The Voice. But still, good week for American Idol. I like how everyone's steering clear of Daniel Seavy as if he isn't even in the competition anymore. At least grampa still gets a mention.
PREDICTION: The next episode will be filled with bitterness and wrath after one or two of Michael and Melinda's favorites get the shocking boot - one of either Nick, Tyana or Rayvon. Haha
I love Quentin, Jax, Joey, and Tyanna!! I hope one of my favorites make it to the top 2 along side Clark… because we all know he is the winner this year … expected :/
An "Idol" to me is someone I would actually pay to see perform. A great singer is someone who can sell records. When both factors are present (Adam Lambert) - that's the best. I would pay to see Qaasim based on his performances so far. His "Come Together" did what the judges constantly push for - he paid attention to the lyrics. When he pulled out the joker he had me totally: funny, sharp, clever and on point. He mimed the 'flat top', the 'one, two, three' and several other lyric lines and kept me completely wrapped up in what he was doing. Quentin usually delights me as he did this week, and Clark and Joey always do also. I also enjoy Jax's artistic choices - and her voice - each week. One bad week for a good performer doesn't bother me - having them voted off in favor of contestants who leave me cold (even if they sing better) does make me feel disappointed. If this show were on radio, I might make different choices, but for a show with visual access, I need more than vocal skill to care about a contestant. Others feel differently - that's cool. But I base my choices on whom I can't wait to see next week - and that is Joey, Quentin, Clark and Jax. Qaasim was awesome to me this week as entertainment, but I am less eager to see his next performance unless he can remain at this week's level of wit and imagination - sometimes it is just too James Brown-y.
I felt if they didn't save Quaasim and last week they got rid of the other girl then it would look like a racist thing to let another black go. He ( Quassim) is a showoff with those braids he thinks he is somebody and his smile is ugly and he is a entertainer not a singer he can't sing at all.
For me Qaasim is a BAD singer....point blank and Idol is a singing competition. He and Daniel shouldn't be on the show no matter how likable they may be.
Totally agree!! Daniel and Qaasim should both get eliminated soon enough. I can't stand either and if one of my favorites gets eliminated before these two, then that would be horrible.
Marcelo Costa It was rude. She didn't ask you. And I doubt you said that to because you cared about her health. If that's the case, you can always tweet her your suggested dental plan. But even then, she still didn't ask you, which would still make it rude. Wanna point out which contestants need to go on a diet too? Who needs to spend more time in hair and make up? No one's perfect. Don't attack people's flaws. Especially if they're brave enough to present themselves on national TV. #rantover
if she reads this and think it was rude, i apologize to HER but i don't take back what i said. I believe it is a cultural thing US and some europeans don't care too much about oral health and dental aesthetics. at least where i am from we walk aroud with our toothbrushes everywhere. I Know no one is perfect, and no one has to be perfect, but taking care of ourselves its a primordial need. if you are too fat, look out for what you're eating, your heart will thank you. if you are too skinny, eat more, your body will thank you. I happen to be skinny, and i have to keep trying to maintain a body weight that is healthy. at least, i never attack her on her skills, she is number 1 on the show
SO GLAD I'm no the online one who likes Zoanette's "Circle of Life" better.
+R.D. Kelley i am!!! #hearyoumelinda

Yeah im with melinda
Holy Moly, you 2 were spot on with how I felt about last week' s performances. I am liking Clark, Jax and Joey in no particular order.
I was HOPING someone would mention Zoanette. YESSS
On the note about Harry pointing out the "Arrangement", remember - these are viewers that vote for Daniel Seavey (probably in abundance). So, maybe we (collectively) aren't all that smart.

I LOVE your recaps (and thank you, Jason Averett!!!) but... did you forget about The Voice?
GOD DAMN IT ALL!!!! I skipped Qaasim last week because I just KNEW it was all over. I start my DVR and am floored by the fact that he got saved! I then stop my DVR to come here (as always watch this before the next episode) expecting you guys to be PIIIIISSSSSED! Why you no help this week?!

I LOVE QUENTIN too Michael!
Quentin love!!
"Bored now".. I laughed out loud.
Total waste of a save, considering Tyanna didn't do so hot this week. I'm worried for her :(
lmfaoooo you guys deff jinxed joey for the next week with her girls wanna have fun perfomrnace

+cookiecloudy The previous season probably left a sour taste in their mouth
Love the Zoanette reference LOL. I totally agree with Slezak about Nick. I love Nick, but he needs to blow us away SOON.
it would be good to pay homage to the late michael johns in this episode if you are going to mention him.
Rest in peace michael!!!!!

Wow! Skylark is a great song! Actually, I can hear several of the contestants doing well with that-- Joey and Clark, to name two.
I 100 percent agree with Melinda that Zoanette's version was the best. My top 3 for the week were 1. Joey 2. Clark 3. Quentin. When did Joey stumble?
Seriously Slezak, this is the first time you ever mentioned Maddie Walker!
I hope I'm not chastised for also loving Zoanette's Circle of Life Performance over J.Hud's 😂
Does anyone else remember Qaasim from the naked brothers band lol
PREDICTION: The next episode will be filled with bitterness and wrath after one or two of Michael and Melinda's favorites get the shocking boot - one of either Nick, Tyana or Rayvon. Haha

Omg what is Melinda on this week?? She's crazy!!!

I'm starting to think michael is losing credibility, if he thinks quaasim was even remotely good
Liking Qaasim more than Quentin should be against the law.
Its like saying Daniel is good …
Ruben Guzman right!?
+TheHush100 BUT QAASIM IS GOOOOOD :(
Is no one going to mention the fact that Daniel did terrible last week or is that just me? Disappointed no one mentioned him..
Joey messed up royally this week though...
You jinx her. Girls just wanna have fun was horrible
I felt if they didn't save Quaasim and last week they got rid of the other girl then it would look like a racist thing to let another black go. He ( Quassim) is a showoff with those braids he thinks he is somebody and his smile is ugly and he is a entertainer not a singer he can't sing at all.
Jax was trying to sound like Joey - sorry Michael - it sucked.
For me Qaasim is a BAD singer....point blank and Idol is a singing competition. He and Daniel shouldn't be on the show no matter how likable they may be.

@@Ruben1Show but yet you guys like Quentin lmao
Joey is amazing but she has to go the dentist, it creeps me.
Wow. Rude and unnecessary.
Its not rude. I didn't said to be mean. But the teeth are health. A good smile sometimes is needed. Even more if you are on showbiz
