    Out in the west, where many nomads like to travel, there are frequent burn bans. Bad weather and high winds also tend to force you to cook inside. That and not wanting to carry fuel in my rig or worry about C02 already had me planning to go fully electric in my rig. One more issue that propane and butane fuel users tend to overlook is the high price to purchase it in out-of-the-way locations, which means planning ahead by carrying plenty of fuel. And as COVID showed us, fuel prices can not only vary widely, but there are situations where it can simply be hoarded by everyone who is afraid there won't be any available. Going strictly electric with solar eliminates that dependency and also makes you are more ecological in your life on the road. All electric RV's are on the horizon! Thanks for the video!

      Thank you! 😊
      There are other awesome electrics too! I use a, "nutri bullet 900" and a small crockpot as well. There are times when I light a campfire or use my butane stove, using my cast-iron pans, ( like if I cook fish ) but you are absolutely right about burn bans, and weather!!!

      I normally eat salads, or thaw things that I freeze at home (like leftovers) and heat them in the hotpot. Easy is best on the road or camping! Unfortunately, I resort to a can or bag of tuna... not something people want to watch on RUclips :) @@UglyBikeling

    Both Nostalgia and DASH offer many small appliances that use 800 watts or less. Consider getting a 12v rice cooker, it sips energy vs DASH's 200 watt rice cooker. I make oatmeal and heat up many things in my DASH rice cooker at home. Their egg bite maker works well as a small griddle, around 450 watts I believe.
    Thrift stores are wonderful places to find these small jewels inexpensively. I paid $2 for the one slice Nostalgia toaster like yours. The MyMini is a 2/1 and uses about 250 watts.

    one of my favorite low-wattage appliances is the YQ-105 mini electric hotplate, sometimes called a coffee stove. inexpensive (about $20), 600 watts, very well-made and works very well. the hot plate is 4 inches in diameter, but i use it with pots and pans up to 8 inches in diameter and it still works well. my ecoflow river pro will run it for 2+ hours no problem.

    • @bobkantor4695
      @bobkantor4695 8 месяцев назад +19

      One nice thing about the EcoFlow 1300 is that when you plug it into a 120vac outlet it recharges from around 20% back up to around 80% in about an hour. This means if you grab a coffee in a cafe near an outlet, you can recharge while sitting there. With 1300 watthours, you have plenty of power for appliances like these for a couple of days.

      I use either 1/4 of a mix ( cooks faster than a big one and is 1 serving). I use whatever liquid I feel like at the time. Sometimes I use an egg, other times not. Might use apple sauce with milk or water. Might use only water.
      As it bakes (maybe 7 minutes) it turns off, thinking the “rice” Is done. It must cool 1-2 minutes before you can turn it back on. This is ok, because it stays hot and bakes. You must sit nearby and keep turning it back on. Depending on the size it can take 45 minutes. No need to turn it over.
      I sometimes it’s jam for frosting (add few drops of water).
      I can’t find my video. I think I posted it in a Facebook group, but never posted it to RUclips.

    Nice review of electronic appliances for minivan camping. I’ve has a 12v kettle for 7 years for coffee or anything you can make with hot water, and a 12v HotLogic Mini (HLM) slow cooker for 5 years of cooking while driving. Recent additions are a Dash griddle to make a fried egg or 1 egg omelet or 2 or 3 breakfast sausage links on, a Nuwave induction stove burner (can be set to 600w, 900w, or 1200w). While I do have a duel fuel one burner camp stove I mostly use the HLM. Also, I’ve used both the Dash & the induction stovetop in a motel room.

      @@avianmariner, I think it’s a slightly older model under $100, they have a newer higher wattage burner too. Those that use it camping or traveling understand why you would want a choice of one that can switch between 600w/900w/1200w instead of one that surges to 100-2000w ! But lost on the reviewer at Consumer Reports (he said, “Why would anyone want the ability to change wattage?” I need to write the editor because clearly the dude is too privileged to have never been in an apt with old wiring, or like my niece being restricted in a college dorm to lower watt appliances. It even says why you might want that in user manual). Glad YT suggested your videos, as I am a true camping gadget gal. 🙃🍳🔦⛺️🐟

    This is timely. I have been dismissive of giving up the Century 2 burner for all electric cooking. My bed isn't convertible so the kitchen comes outside for use. This is only a problem when I refuse to leave a place where the weather is going to be a challenge. If I can't cook with out dirt blowing in, I typically just don't cook. There's a 12 volt hot cup for tea. The heated lunchbox "ovens" haven't inspired me yet. That there are electric resistance heated toasters and frypans light enough to run off a 700 watt inverter and spare car battery never occurred to me. The option to actually cook on the table between the front seats is compelling.

    Great video, got me pulling out my Dash to cook 4 sausages, after what seemed an eternity I finally pulled out my cast iron to finish the sausages and made a decent size pancake in a jiffy. Still trying to get the grease out of the Dash since you can’t sumerge in water and I’ve wasted countless paper towels trying to do so while the cast iron is already dry and put away Your video is great, I’m glad it works for you and many others, personally I’ll stick with stoves, have propane adapters, legally refillable 1 lb tanks, using my 10 lb tank to refill it costs about $1 a pound and is completely legal in a fire ban, I use a vestibule when windy that attaches to the vehicle and I’m good. Everyone is different and does what works for them, your video was very detailed and well done, I certainly appreciate the effort you put in it. Thanks.👍🏻👍🏻

      Just curious...What dash item were you using? If I am in a snowstorm ( roads can get closed for hours) or in freezing rain, I don't open doors or windows of my mini-Van to cook ... needing to keep in heat (I travel to New England in winter)

      There are some cooking appliances that I would like to use, ( a small Forman-type grill for example) but you are correct- those are hard to clean on the road and I want easy-cleaning tools. By the way, I also love cast iron and use it when cooking outside! 😊
