Listening therapy with the Tomatis® Effect - 3D

  • The Tomatis® Method is a pedagogical method used to improve the listening of a person whose hearing functions correctly.
    It works thanks to a device that causes musical contrasts by suddenly and unpredictably changing the timbre and intensity of the music.
    This effect will surprise the brain and trigger its attentional mechanisms. We say that the brain puts itself in the listening position.
    Sound is transmitted through air via the ear canal. It is also transmitted by a vibration at the top of the headset. This vibration is called bone conduction.
    Bone conduction transmits the sound directly to the inner ear, thus preparing it to receive the sound transmitted through the eardrum.
    The switch to Channel 2 causes the muscles of the ear to tense. Conversely, the switch back to Channel 1 lets these muscles relax.
    Thus, the muscles of the ear are subjected to a gymnastic exercise.
    In this way, the stirrup muscle tenses and relaxes thanks to the Tomatis effect, improving the regulation of the inner ear and playing a role of preparation.
    More generally, it is the entire auditory system that is stimulated by the sudden change of timbre and intensity
    The vestibule and the cochlea have a fundamental role of providing energy to the brain. In the cochlea, high frequency sounds stimulate the brain much more than low frequency sounds. Channel 2 will strongly activate the lower part of the scala media (cochlear duct) and thus favor the reception of high frequencies and their transmission to the brain.
    This transmission takes place through the transformation of the acoustic vibration that is perceived into electrical stimulation.
    The electrical message is transmitted to the auditory cortex and the peripheral cortical areas that are directly connected to the prefrontal cortex. The latter integrates and analyzes the information received.
    In return, this integrated information is directed back to the ear, favoring not only the perception of the acoustic information and the ability to focus on it, but also the improvement of motor programs concerning fine and gross motor functions.
    Thus, through this back and forth between the brain and the receptors in the inner ear we can see that in reality the ear is a sensory-motor organ that plays a decisive role in our personal development.
    That is why the Tomatis Method acts in a natural and non-intrusive manner on the auditory system and the brain.
    The TOMATIS® Method is an Educational Program, and is considered neither a medical treatment nor a means to establish a medical diagnosis.

    As an autistic teen who previously had very overwhelming sensory issues, this has helped me so much. I next to never get sensory overloads, and I rarely get sensory-related panic attacks anymore. Additionally, I can cope a lot better with my other senses now and I can function quite a bit better all around!
    I don't think I did the best job at sounding professional but it's helping me an incredible amount and I want people to know that it can help them too. I wish you guys luck regardless of if you try tomatis!

    So this is how the Listening Program works! I've been using the CD's for years and now finally know how they do what they do. :)

      Please note that the experience and results are dramatically different when you are "plugged" to the machine (the Electronic Ear). It can be compared to the difference between working out at home in front of your TV and going to a personal trainer. I personally do not recommend doing the listening by yourself. Your program must be tailored to your particular listening curve and there is a progressions in the training that is only possible when a therapist is controlling your progress. Also, a well written program affects you psychologically and you need "human" support when you go through the different phases. I am personally against self-help, at home training programs in that domain if you are serious about doing the therapy.

      Yes. The program was given to me by a learning disability specialist who works with such people as myself. and it has helped. I haven't done it in a long time though, and I can tell ! i need to get back to it.

      This video is explaining the Tomatis® Effect which is produced by a device called the Talks Up (the portable version of the former Electronic Ear) and does not use CDs at all. Talks Up listening programs change the music and voice in real time. As Michele Hermet alludes to, Tomatis® Practitioners and Consultants tailor programs to fit the client's needs. No one's CDs work the same way as Tomatis® does.

    This has helped my hearing loss. I went from a 40% hear loss back up to only a 10% hearing loss. It didn't help my tinnitus though, although it has not gotten worse.
    I would also like to know if it helps with the micro-hairs.

    Well they mentioned the prefrontal part of the brain ...and in people who have very bad chemical sensitivities where their smell is heightened like ten thousand times and everything smell drives them crazy, I hear it is because the LIMBIC part of the brain is damaged and needs to be HEALED or RESET.... can anyone tell me if this would help with that ?

    Could this work for Tinnitus?

    • @louloumelo
      @louloumelo 8 лет назад +2

      It does but the program has to be tailored to your particular tinnitus (the frequencies at which it occurs).

    • @jonah4u
      @jonah4u 7 лет назад +1

      how can the program be tailored and how to find out which frequency is my hearing damage?

      We do a test comparable to a hearing test performed by an audiologist. According to tests results we can determine where the problem occurs.
