This is bonkers insane. Can't imagine what it must've been like to be alive at this time and to experience Bruce and the Band during this tour.
I first saw Bruce and the band on this same tour, when I was 17. I knew who they were, but wasn't a yet a huge fan. I can't even explain what it was to see that first show. You were helpless to resist. I do recall this medley, though, being the epic ending to that night.
imagine driving down long highways before the show as well, he's so fitting for this time in America
I first saw Bruce and the ESB in 1978 a the Capitol Theater in Passaic NJ. this was way before RUclips, mtv , videos - anything. I had his records but never really even saw more than a 15 second clip of him live. I had seen many concerts before that one including Led Zeppelin at Madison Sq Garden. BUT I was totally unprepared for what I was about to witness. It was just unbelievable. He rocked the roof off the friggin place, made us laugh, cry and everything in between. I was a ball of sweat at the end, hoarse for a week and my hands hurt. I cannot describe it really. I have seen him 80 times since that first show. No one has come close to Bruce and ESB live. No one.
Yup, how lucky to have lived in the age of Bruce.

If you had to pick one performance as testament to why this was the greatest live band in rock history, you could do a lot worse than this video. This is the very essence of who they were and are, both musically and as performers.

I’ve seen a lot of bands 90% of them were really good Bruce for me is thee greatest frontman I’ve ever witnessed he has a way to “one song at a time” draw the crowd in and make you feel like your part of the show he talks to you flirts serenades you until your heart and soul is just as fulfilled and happy as he and his band brothers are, I’ve seen him on a large scale stage and on a very small stage he always gives you back everything you give and you leave overjoyed and wanting more and start dreaming of the next time The Who was a cool show and I loved them but there is only one BRUUUUUUUUUUUUUUCE

Great concert band, yes. "greatest live band in rock history" I doubt, except to his loyal legion of fans. Really, people, perspective. And please listen, just as one example, to the Rolling Stones Live In Hawaii bootleg, among a hundred other bands. We all have favorites. To us they are all great. Let's let that be our banner.

Ive seen every tour since 1992 and have always had my mind blown, but this is a different level. The guy is just a force of nature. What I would give to go back in time and be in this crowd. He's a damn superhero. Bruce! There is just no one else like him.

Bruce and the E Street in their prime. An atomic bomb on stage. No smoke, no fireworks, no lights, no Jumbotron, they didn’t need them. Just incomparable.
This is pure rockin Bruce and the band at their best. I’ll never get tired of listening to his excellent performance. One of a kind, in a category of his own.

In Bruce's memoir he describes getting to know Sinatra a little and attending his funeral. While their Jack Nicholson comes up to Bruce and says "Now YOU'RE King of New Jersey".

This tour was freaking awesome! He had just done this in Arizona a little before the tour rolled into Los Angeles (where I was on vacation) and he was doing six nights nights at the Sports Area.
We went to scalper and paid fifty bucks (I kid you not) for dead centre seats in the 10th row! It was as this show exactly!
We were back at the scalpers door first thing the next day buying seats for each of the five remaining nights. I swear, if I died right after that last show, I would considered that I lived a completely fulfilled life!
I also saw him at one of the shows at the L.A. Sports Arena. Was, and still is, the best concert I have been to. And I have been to many concerts thru the years.

What really surprised me was when they played with all the house lights on! Like being at a honky-tonk where the manager wants to clear everyone out but the band and the crowd just turn it up to 11!
if you had to play one video for a person to convince them how great Bruce is live this one would be a top 5.
I usually go with the Passaic shows. It's like hitting them with a tactical nuke.

Well bruce and e street band only 5 times in his carrer play times play more than 4 hours(2012-2016 era where long concert he give go for 4 hours and 27 minutes) the only band play more that is grateful dead
@@TheSebagrande the Dead doesn't have nearly the energy that the E Street Band does. I could play 24 hours if all I did was stand in one spot and play. Huge difference in their shows when you're talking palpable energy.

I saw him my first time in 1980 on Halloween night at the Los Angeles Sports Arena. I was 13. Lol The last time I saw him was Mar. 19th, 2016 on the The River 35th Anniversary Tour. It was my 20th time seeing him. I've loved each and every fucking time. I've been to hundreds of concerts and dollar for dollar, pound for pound Bruce Springsteen and The E Street Band are simply the best.
I was a Dancer. for a living when this came out. In a cageMitch Rider & The Detroit WHEELS sang it. And Sock It To Me.

@@brucespringsteen-music I'm from Cleveland. As you know, Cleveland was a huge supporting city for Bruce in the early years. Grew up with his music on WMMS, the Agora concert and his many visits to Cleveland for live shows. I'm 65 now...still young at heart.

Saw this tour in Detroit and he brought out Mitch Ryder, I thought it was only something he did there because Mitch was a local legend. Show went for over 3 hours and amazing.
No one pays homage to the greats like Bruce. He plays that Detroit medley like Mitch is inhabiting his soul.
And for all we know, he might very well be.

I saw his show two weeks after this- ticket cost was $8.00. By the end of this tour he and the band were finally out of debt (after making records and touring for 9 years). I saw an interview where his base player said that around this time he met some guys who played in a Springsteen tribute band and those musicians earned more than he did. This show was in 1980 and in his memoir I believe Bruce says he had about $20,000 to his name when this tour was over in 1981. Now he's worth a half billion.
And unlike most billionaires he earned every penny.
