And 47 years later they are still fantastic and rocking.
The Detroit Palace show he talked about in the opening was the ‘money back” show. I was there . Bruce had the audience in the palm of his hand. He walked down the aisle at least once singing in barely a whisper and you could hear a pin drop. Blew the crowd away with these covers. After this show, Kittys back was my favorite song, even today…EPIC
Shockingly, if you didn’t like the show in the first 30 minutes you could get a full refund at the venue. Still a hard thing to imagine as this show and tour was incredible

Bruce was rejecting fame here, before Mellencamp adopted the 'reluctant starlet" schtick. The hype of Newsweek and Time Magazine covers he found embarrassing. The rest of the band especially Miami Steve Van Zant never looked better. Cubano pimp in pimk look is damn near impossible to pull off. The hats were a contrast, don't you gather the subtext man? The hat's are a symbol of their individuality, their freedom to be different, even in the same band. They played both Motown and East Coast music!
Springsteen had sported that beard since before his first album, so for a few years at that time. There's nothing about his style of dress that looked out sorts for the era.
Bruce in Detroit was an EVENT back in the 70's. Sold out every time at the Michigan Palace . 5 HOUR CONCERTS! Awesome entertainer/talent!
