Thanks SOOO much for your Runthrough's, i'm relatively new to boardgaming and this helps so much to decide what to try and buy based on what i like, keep up the awesome work!!!
Btw, I just had to add that I love how well-trained/bored your dog is. Most other video makers that have pets inevitably have them pop in when they aren't wanted. Yours is just sleeping on the couch which is unusual for golden labs. Glad you're doing a runthrough of this game.
Thanks for this Richard. I've had this game for a few years and never played it. Now I think I could actually get it to the table. With so many decisions I can see why it's so highly rated. Great job!
Yeah, they fix bugs quickly. Good to know. However, I am leaning towards agreeing with Radho in playing peacefully. Last game one guy got 3 Holy War cards, tripled his army power in one turn, and literally wiped all but 2 of my people (not troops) from the face of the earth. Pretty much sat there for the last 6 turns of the game unable to do anything. He did lose though. He-he.
I think you may be playing with too many goods in your "supply". The rule book shows the last 4 faded out circles to be empty at initial setup. Each player should have 18 blue tokens, instead of 22 per player.
Hi, rahdo! At 19:43 you build your 3rd mine. Later on, Jen does the same. Yet both of you have despotism that limits buildings to 2 of a kind. Is it a mistake, or mines don't count towards building limits?
How different is this to the new edition of the game? Will this video help me with that (Help! I have never learned a game without a runthrough first!)
+Matthew Breslin It's mostly the same. There's a page on the back of the rules that summarizes the changes on half a page, so if you already know the game (or watched a certain runthrough) you should be able to start quickly. Each player has a turn overview that lists all your options and a terminology overview. The rules are split in two, one discribes basically explanes the simple game step by step for the first game, with some remarks for the other variants in the end. The other part is an overview over all the rules so you can quickly look something up.
My group most definitely does not like to place nice. It's not that we're superhardcore or anything, we're pretty casual. We just find screw-you gameplay is fun. There's never hard feeling over it, it's all fun and laughs.
umm i played the full version, and modern era really changes the character of the game, you must prepare for that. But my version had all these beautiful shiny glass cubes, and the card fronts were artsy and full color - are you showing a proto or what?
i think we do really well because we're very good at communicating, more than anything else. not having kids has made life much much easier though, so we certainly have less stress, which helps too :)
***** Thanks, Richard. That makes sense. I realized that my question was personal (and perhaps out of line), so I appreciate you answering. I wish you both much happiness and good gaming in the future.
"Peaceful variant?" Argh, that's lame. Might as well go off in different rooms, play your own game, and compare your scores at the end. War is the only thing that keeps this game from being multiplayer solitaire. Appreciate your vids but without fighting in this one, I think I can safely click on to the next one.
"multiplayer solitaire" are 7 of the sweetest syllables in the english language to me and jen. we just want to sit down and have a good time while playing, and that includes not beating each other to a pulp as a general rule! :)
I understand, that came out harsher than I meant. Better to live peacefully than to sleep on the couch! I'm sorry about that. I love your vids, keep them coming!
Dave Bautistaroid I hate war in this game. in era 3 opponent stole 25 points from me and there was no way to prevent, as I was recovering from a failed attack from a first opponent.
Sigh, it depresses me that Rahdo is a multiplayer solitare gamer. He pretty much likes ZERO conflict. He's missing out on so many games that have it. I'd rather he simply not play any games that have conflict, rather than cut out what he deems is "unfun". I really don't understand why he doesn't have a problem facing artificial events or fights against the game itself, but can't do it against other players. If you know it's a competitive game, then just suck it up, seriously. He says he doesn't like Eclipse because of that reason. Eclipse is absolutely fantastic, but the whole game doesn't revolve around it like say Exodus Proxima Centauri. My removing that element, you're seriously just neutering the game. Through the Ages without the combat is just a long and boring endeavor. Shame on you Rahdo :/

THanks for this run through, because of you and Jen, me and my wife decided to get this game. BEST PURCHASE EVER!
labak55 awesome! glad to hear it :)

27:41 Shows a 4 couple of times "this requires 5 science" :D
You are simply legendary^^
Much love
This looks awesome! Thanks so much for your videos, rahdo! I love your run throughs =) Best wishes, from Brazil =D
Thanks so much for this video! I never would have picked up this game had I not seen you play it. Now I'm backing it on Kickstarter!
Thanks for this, great run through. Now we can finally brush off the dust and play!
At 29:24 you use a civic action to recruit a military unit.
Just an FYI. This game is now available on BoardGameArena. Play for free.
What is your name in BGA?
kysmart Warning: It is buggy as my first game last night got stopped due to a glitch. They're good about fixing them though.
I played six games and none of them had prob.

Loved this game, loved the gameplay . Telling my husband to buy this ASAP :D Awesome video :)
I wanted to see all factors of the game including warfare. It is a shame they did not show this large part of the gameplay.
+Ronald S. Dwan yup, sorry, but fighting is not our bag :(
+rahdo thanks it was a great runthrough anyway. Looks like a terrific game.

Those limits are for Urban Buildings, Mines and Farms aren't Urban Buildings so those limits don't apply to them
How different is this to the new edition of the game? Will this video help me with that (Help! I have never learned a game without a runthrough first!)
+Matthew Breslin sorry i havne't looked too closely at the new version so i'm not sure

where is the world map / board ? is it optional ?
Is Jen a real person? I've watched several of your videos and I've never seen her.
i think shes his canadian girlfriend..................
She's in a couple

there is no world map... what you see is what you get! :)
umm i played the full version, and modern era really changes the character of the game, you must prepare for that. But my version had all these beautiful shiny glass cubes, and the card fronts were artsy and full color - are you showing a proto or what?
nope, i was running through the 3rd edition, which is what the game looked like before the 10th anniversary edition that you have :)
Give me that ol' time religion coz its good enough for me... Hehe. I havent heard that song in ages...
Ditto! Filk that, baby!
Wrong set up with only 2 yellow token on the first line of yellow bank.
Enoch Swao true, though i'm pretty sure this has been noted in the vid :)
Serious question, Richard:
Do you think that not having kids is why you two get along so well?
i think we do really well because we're very good at communicating, more than anything else. not having kids has made life much much easier though, so we certainly have less stress, which helps too :)

Removing the entire military aspect would destroy the game for me. The ONLY time I'd use it was playing a two player game with my wife.
NICE VIDEO!!!
THANKS!
Peace...no peace...!

People that aren't good at playing love "take that" so they can drag down the people that are.

Jacob Cadena i am shamed! :)
***** Just busting your nuts man, hey BTW, have you tried The Golden Ages yet? Wanted to know your opinion on that civ game compared to Nations.
Jacob Cadena yeah i am eager to give it a go but haven't yet
Jacob Cadena I have only played eclipse once, but a lot of people say it looses its luster after like 5 games. have you found that to be true?
That's a long and complex game for a "run"through
