wow! i think Uma handleled herself like a boss and so did Russell. He was very respectful of her and she was very comfortable in herself. bravo to both of them!!!
she brought up mom into the topic when she wanted to draw a line in this flirting game but russell was smart and converted that into a joke. i think they both have a combined IQ of 300 +
Uma is an introvert book reading lady who happens to be beautiful. When acting she likes to play strong characters. Now that I think about it, he did the needle scene on that kid in his movie like the scene Uma had in Pulp Fiction. Maybe it was all a tribute to her. I think he has a crush. Call me cray cray, but a lot of guys probably have a crush on Uma. Good for her.
She's a ture turaurs sprit. smart, beautiful, and super sharp witted..intelligent but not above self-humour or self-analysis! She had Russell eating out of her hand and he enjoyed every second of it but remained respectful of her(by her giving him a verbal slap down boy.. I'm not playing!!) Great interview..
At around one third mark of the video, uma quietly realizes who russell brand is(whoa!!) and goes into defense mode till at the end when she invokes his mother *out of nowhere*. She broke character with that statement. Russell converts the mother part into a joke and brings(covers) her back into the game. Very intelligent host.
Funnily enough, there was a booking with the Dalai Lama a few years later... And Uma Thurman seems to have gone back to her Buddhist roots recently too.
It's strange looking back and see how much more confidence he's got since this interview! I'd love to see how much more at ease he would be around people like Uma now!
No kidding. I was 23 back then....31 now. o__O It's weird how it seems like culture hasn't changed all that much in the past 10 years. But, back in 1995, 10 years ago was 1985...which was MUCH different culturally than 1995. Yet, 2014 isn't all that different from 2004. Wonder if 2024 will be much different...
avedic I was 17 in '04 and I'd say it's changed quite a bit. 10 years ago, there were no facebooks, youtubes, or video games in 1080p. No smartphones, ipads, tablets, no Wii/ps3/360/wiiU/PS4/XboxOne. Fashion was still baggy & loose; no skinny jeans as they were a relic of outdated 80s and early 90s trends (ironically, resurrected around 2006). South Park was still hilarious. Music drastically changed and the 80s sort of came back in a huge way with synth pop. Rap & hip hop became increasingly dumber. Every rock band sounded like MGMT for a while. The 'hipster' crowd and the 'emo' trend got popular. Movies went from prequels to remakes out the ass, and the comic book theme dominated for years. Pro wrestling went from "Ruthless Aggression" to a disgustingly safe PG era. We got the first ever look at an African American president. Some of the greatest entertainers died, like Michael Jackson, Patrice O'Neal, Richard Pryor, George Carlin. Gay acceptance is a bit more prevalent across the western world. There seems to be more school shootings & mass shootings nowadays & kids who commit suicide because of cyber bullying. Female teachers seem to be having sex with their students more often in the news.
avedic I agree with this... 85-95 seems a much bigger difference culturally to 04-14! But maybe we just don't see it? suppose the biggest diff between 04-14 is cyber interactivity with the likes of facebook, twitter and I don't even think youtube was around in 04. Music, TV and fashion seems pretty much the same though to me.
She did Tape of cource, a great movie. About a rape in college that was not acknowleged even by the consciousness of the perpetrator. All that cognitive dissonance. Good not well know film and she was amazing in it, as were all three. A play really.
He has gotten SO much better with how he treats women. You can tell he really made a concerted effort to improve on that as he became aware. It's hard to watch these old videos. He's so smarmy, so many innuendos, even the way he's sitting, and he makes women visibly uncomfortable. He probably has a hard time watching them as well. I applaud him for working on himself.
Eh, it was his schtick. He did go too far sometimes, but there is something less creepy about a bit of scandalous flirting when it's in front of an audience and for a joke. As long as he doesn't actually get super touchy for a "joke" which he doesn't here.
Actually Uma Thurman seems quite cool. This was Russell's best time when he was on this show. Full of improvisation and surprises, I loved the surprised reactions of Hollywood types when they appeared on this show
It's human instincts to be attracted to someone who can clearly support you. Men usually look for a mother quality in women and women usually look for the protective authority type. Doesn't apply to all, but most.
HAHAHAHA oh my gosh this is hilarious!!!! I love Russell Brand. I think he's so damn funny and I love how Uma Thurman is during this interview!! So calm and she's joking around too!! Oh and she's so damn pretty.
I agree with the best part, but the 'by far' part....I dunno. Uma in Kill Bill I & II was immense as the bride. Nearly as good as she was as Mia Wallace in Pulp Fiction.
Nope. That last part "you will take care of your mother for the rest of your life" we can see she is testing Brand by shooing him away. BUT how quick witted Russel is he came back by blaming his mom. Look how Uma laugh at that. She was defeated and it was a sign of a girls attraction.
He looks a bit in awe, unusual for him. And she asks(indirectly) if he has Mommy issues when he says he's younger but she might like to go out with him!
You're judging him awfully quickly, have you seen any more of his interviews? I've never seen someone so poised, eloquent, philosophical and funny on TV recently.
he would be so interesting to meet. people act different on tv though, he could be completely full of himself and condescending, but i feel like that's not true. i also feel like i wouldn't want to have to talk to him in front of an audience though haha. he asks such bold questions, it would definitely intimidate me. but a nice one on one would be cool.
what is success? I mean russell conquered serious drug addiction from which he nearly died. After that he got his fame and relized the empty superficial vessel that it is and went into himself and found some spiritual ground and now spreads awareness through meditation and talks on addiction. social status means nothing, just another attachment we need to shed and hold onto lightly, we are not our social roles, they are merely a small part of the vastness that we encompass.
Uma is actually pretty funny, she can keep up with Russell's banter better than any other non-comedian i've seen him with
Or American , Russel is quintessentially British .

Russell was trying very hard but Uma wasnt having it. She seems quite down to earth and reserved and modest. Its adorable.

I love how sharp Uma Thurman is, not like a lot of actresses, I think it's why I like her so much
