We'll never see the China Southern’s A380s at the airport again😢The airline didn't even hold a retirement ceremony,just let them go in silence. It's really weird

Weird to just fly the plane to a graveyard without a ceremony or at least letting the public know
i’ve seen it go to mojave airport aka the airplane graveyard.
China Southern’s management felt embarrassed to be retiring the largest aircraft in their fleet. CZ’s A380s were a loss-making venture that never lived up to its potential.
They were supposed to be based in Beijing to operate lucrative long haul routes but Air China maintained exclusive rights on most of them out of PEK. When China Southern moved to the new Daxing Airport (PKX), they were able to open up routes previously under Air China’s monopoly in PEK but PKX was too far away from Beijing’s CBD, getting there by car took 1.5hrs and the much faster metro line to PKX was too expensive for passengers when they could simply go to the much closer PEK. The pandemic was the last nail in the coffin for CZ’s A380s.
Management didn’t let the marketing people do a retirement ceremony. Though cabin crews on the A380’s last few flights did do farewell announcements in somber tone to all the passengers letting them know that the super jumbos are going away.
why are so many people complaining CZ using A380 for a domestic flight? Who says A380 can't be used for domestic flight?
Before saying something so ignorant, you have to consider the vastness and population of China. The Beijing to Guangzhou route connecting the country's Northern capital and Southern economic center is one of the busiest in the nation and tickets are usually sold out, the capacity of A330 and B777 are simply not enough for this route which is why A380 was used.
if you google the flight timetable between Beijing and Guangzhou, there is one plane flying out at every hour. and there is a whole variety of aeroplanes used, from A321 to A330 to B777 to B787. the A380 only operates one round trip in a day.
As for the remote parking, Guangzhou Baiyun airport only has one boarding bridge for domestic A380 flights and it was probably occupied by others at the time.
In beijing, China southern and her fellow Skyteam companies are stuck with the old Terminal 2, the Newer T3 was assigned to Star alliance and Oneworld.
Once the new beijing airport completes in 2019, all skyteam members will move to there.
Actually for the first 4 years (China Southern got 5 of these Airplanes in 2011), A380 operations under CZ were at a loss, due to inability to secure lucrative long haul international routes such as Beijing-London and Beijing-Paris. They only started using these colossal A380s on international routes such as Beijing-Amsterdam and Guangzhou-LA at roughly 2015. Now these planes are making profit for CZ. hopefully I am clear.

Not just about the captivity, although you are right that there will be a lot people traveling with cz to Guangzhou, but there are literally more than 20 flights to Guangzhou everyday, the reason why everyone is saying that the a380 shouldn’t be use on this route is because the a380 is designed for long range international flight, the engine, fuel tank, fuel flow and the impressive two level 4 engines designed will be wasted on this route
So what about the other airlines (Which are not in any alliance company)?

This was the first plane I ever flown on, you can imagine 4th grade me looking out the window at the tbit terminal, looking at the plane, and going, “how the crap is that gonna fly.” By then I was so excited and scared I didn’t know whether to close my eyes or to enjoy it, good airline though. Good thing they provide barf bags too

That dark thing you eat is good for health and it call 龜苓膏 in Chinese and the right name for Eng is Guiling Gao . but most of them are not really taste good. I think that brand you eat is not a good one . In HK there will be much better one.
They come from Wuzhou, a town at the border of Guangxi (where my family is from) and Guangdong where Guangzhou is and where he is flying from. They're made from turtle shells and some versions even have flavoring and might be tastier

Very surprised they would serve 龜苓膏 on a flight. Few people would touch it if they knew it was made from turtle shells. Plus, it has a very strong herbal taste. Jack is right that most do not taste good except some very fine places in HK. I can't imagine it could taste good while packaged and served cold on a plane.

@@globalcomparisons1973 the channel has improved with camera shake. I don't think they're holding the cameras for takeoff and landing anymore. But yeah, that was a lot of camera shake.

Looks awesome. China Southern is my favorite airlines. I just flew with them last month on my trip to Malaysia. Boeing 777 New York City to Guangzhou and Airbus 321 Guangzhou to Penang. Really enjoyed it. The Airbus a380 looks nice.

It looks better on the 787 with a new design.
Especially on the A380, SURE it might look better on the 787 but out of all the liveries currently on A380s this one fits it the second best. Id say only Etihads A380 wears its livery better.
China southern airlines is one of the best in China.But i still believe Sichuan airlines and Hainan Airlines are better

Great report. Red tickets collected is to count total passengers on board. Just in case someone doesn't board the plane between one check point (gate) and boarding the plane. If the plane had been connected to a jet bridge , you wouldn't need the red tickets.
Its livery makes the A380 look smaller than its actual size. That sure was a quiet take off.

Using an A380 for a domestic flight? Using non boarding gate spot, and then docking at the old Beijing airport terminal instead of the big and newer one. Why is this A380 getting abused..
ARVIN This A380 might need to be at the remote stand just since Guangzhou is very busy and needs space at other gates. At Beijing, China Southern has to unfortunately go to Terminal 2 along with Skyteam carriers and luckily they have gates built for an A380.

Joshua Fernandes It does. International section of the terminal in CAN has two boarding gates for A380 while domestic section only provides one. So when you take EK&QR&CZ(international flights)'s A380s, you always board via airbridges

I really like your videos! Especially the fact you don't "talk to yourself / the camera" in flight. I flew on an A380 with China Southern from Guangzhou to LAX from my trip to Bangkok in October 2015. Good times.
In 1970 Northwest Orient used to fly daily from JFK to Chicago O'Hare on an early morning B747 among other transcontinental services,now is time for China to offer domestic flights with wide bodies. Not just another excellent report . Keep the good work going on guys !!!

Hi, this message is from China and I regret to tell you that the A380s were finally retired in February 2022, due to increased fuel costs and decreased passengers. It is quite nostalgic to see them flying in this video. During their 12-year duty, people across the country have been very enthusiastic about flying aboard such an enormous jet.

I had a 4 hour flight on a United airlines 737-800 max. Hell. Never do that
planes spotter and railfanner I know, wasn't my first choice.

A really nice trip report. I have been on the exact flight & airplane before. But for me the airplane was parked at a gate in guangzhou and in beijing. I am really surprised why they didn't park the A380 @ the gate because the gate u were standing infront of that was empty was suppose to be a gate for the giant plane.

What is your opinion of this airline? I ask because I am thinking of going to Guilin next year and having looked at various websites this airline doesn't seem to be particularly liked judging by the reviews I read.

Well, in about three weeks, I'll be flying into Guangzhou, China 广州市 from Los Angeles, CA via China Southern Airline. After watching this video, it doesn't bother me that much about flying. A bit nervous but much more excited to be away on a long and far away trip. Not sure what to expect on a long flight (6h 10ms) from the airline and the flying atmosphere because I've haven't fly overseas in 30 years. Any info of dos and don't from anyone will help. Thanks

By the time I got through the airport, onto my plane and into my seat, I would have been exhausted! Not good legroom, but at least it was only 3 hours. The food looked rather interesting, and more than you'd get on a US domestic flight.
