    Aston Martin has finally given the V12 Vantage S a manual gearbox, is it better than the automatic? Oh yes. And then some.

    To those who say "ah typical british journalist being biased to british cars" "overpriced and underpowered" "aston martins look the same", just keep in mind that *this car is pretty much the last ever production car to have a naturally aspirated V12 mated to a 3 pedal manual.* Lambo stopped with their manual LP670 SV and Ferrari stopped with their ultra rare manual 599 ages ago. Just let that sink in for a minute. Let alone how beautiful this 2005 design looks. This car deserves the hype.

    • @MRFUCKOFF202
      @MRFUCKOFF202 8 лет назад +5

      +smilepermile Was there even an LP670 manual? I thought the last manual Murcielago was the LP640. Anyway, with the next generation we're going to lose one of the best V8s in the industry, one of the best V12s in the industry and yet another manual gearbox I think. I really think in 20 years time when I can maybe afford one of these cars I'll still be buying cars from around this period.

    • @smilepermile888

      ***** I completely agree with you. Aside from limousine style cars like the S600, 760li, W12 A8s, perhaps this car is the 'most affordable' way right now of getting a V12. The Vantage range may have been here since 2004, but that just proves how effective their design and their chassis are. Its not going to be a nurburgring laptime leader but this car wasn't intended with the mindset like that. Oh yes the NSX, I don't feel like it has much of a driver-envolvement. I'm sure thats a very competent car but I prefer the much more analogue approach of the NA1 and NA2 generation NSXs. I do think that the new one sounds muted with its turbocharged engine and there's no manual. I do think they could have made that car 300-400kg lighter than what it is. And for a Honda, its a bit pricey isn't it.

    • @smilepermile888
      @smilepermile888 8 лет назад +6

      +MRFUCKOFF202 Yep, Lamborghini actually did make LP670-4 Super Veloce with manual transmission (H pattern open gated), but in very small numbers, i'm guessing less than 100 anyway. There are several videos of these rare cars online. And yes, its very sad that brilliant V8s and V12s are gradually fading out. The 4.7 V8 from the Vantage sounds just as good as this V12 and I miss the V10 from the M5+M6, V8 from the M3 too. And yes, these special cars should be bought when they can. Its only the matter of time when they get extinct :'(

      MRFUCKOFF202 Definitely. I heard that the 6 speed manual Ferrari 599s were recently sold for 600,000 euros so i'm sure it would be the same if not more for the SV manuals. I really hope that many people buy this V12 Vantage S with the manual before their replacement arrives next year or so, otherwise these cars will also be very rare and appreciate like crazy!

      +MyRealName I'm glad that I wasn't the only one who thought that too. So many people bitch on how 'dated' and 'overrated' these astons are but I do think if it ain't broke, why fix it? These cars look absolutely beautiful, sound epic and have a very good chassis. With this 2016 V12 Vantage S, it is certainly the last car to ever have the NA V12 mated to a manual, so it deserves the hype.

    This car has got to be my favourite car on the market today. I saw one for the first time a few weeks ago here in Canada, and I looked inside and it was a manual transmission. I wanted to find the owner just to shake his hand and congratulate him haha. On a side note, i'm not sure I buy the argument at 6:24 about power making manual transmissions harder to use... Europe may be having a problem with this, but the Hellcat has 125 more hp than this car and uses a manual just fine. Also, what about modified cars? I've driven 800whp cars from the 90's with a manual transmission and it's no tougher than if the car was stock with 300hp. I think it's a manufacturers excuse. Awesome video, as always.

      +Roads Untraveled Love watching your videos!
      These types of cars are getting rarer and rarer. I hope they build more of it before the next gen Vantage comes out. No more N.A. V12s :'( Its a similar approach to the 911-R being an old-school naturally aspirated engine w/ manual transmission - but it would have been great if Porsche built more than 991 of 911-Rs because they appreciated in value so much.

    This is something I've been trying to work out lately. There has to be a point where adding power to sports cars does not translate to a better driving experience. If it's not hindered by power train technology, it'll be hindered by brake and tire technology as well as public roads. Therefore, carmakers must resort to other ways of making cars exciting to drive. This Aston could be an example of that, as well as Porsche with the 911R. Now Porsche has said the next GT3 and RS models will have a manual option.

    I see the car future two ways, there will be electric cars (with graphene batteries, this is important to note) and there will be a small niche market for gas cars. Why do I think this? Well there is a small niche market for many things that used to be commonplace, like vacuum tube headphone and speaker amps, vinyl discs, hell, sailboats even (although that's stretching it a bit). And companies within these niche markets are very dedicated to their products, and the same I think the same will hold true for gas cars in the future.
    On the other hand, I greatly support electric cars as well, but I think that if you are going to make one (as a company), you shouldn't half ass it, huge power, and direct drive, don't need a heavy transmission to weigh the car down needlessly. And companies now that make performance cars will most likely end up making very fast electric cars which will probably end up being much much faster than today's gas cars. And who knows, some drivers and racers might like them more, as with the smooth ride, and direct drive, you have huge power at any speed, and you can focus more on cornering.
    Of course all this is speculation, but I think it's reasonable, and if anyone has any other input, it would be interesting to hear.

    • @framesabervr7461
      @framesabervr7461 8 лет назад +1

      You have a good point, but I think there will always be a market for combustion powered sports cars for the people who want them. It may not be the most popular in the future, but it will still continue to be made to cater to our market. Manufacturers like Aston Martin know and understand there is a good chunk of people who enjoy driving a stickshift, and people like you and me will happily buy one. Did motorsport put traditional horse racing out of existence? No. Stickshift cars will always exist because people like us will make sure of it. And when oil runs out? Well, fuels like methanol and bio diesel will take the place of petrol in combustion engines. The Internal Combustion Engine is too good and reliable to ever go away for a long, long time, and it's only improving.

    The interior is dated but the exterior is absolutely perfect.

    I don't think any of the current range look dated. The yellow / grey combo will likely be popular in Germany. Blue and red for me. Analogue will take a long time to die out....

    I feel like his statement about cars like this disappearing and everything "analog" being digitalized reflects many aspects of our everyday life, not just cars (as he mentions with netflix etc.). I'm only 19 but I worry about where we're going with certain things.. Kinda wish some things could stay in the past (i.e. manual gearboxes, not electric cars).

    I run a 2006 6 speed manual 4.3 every day but of course I want a V12 manual but given a 22k car is £75k and a 55k car £50 ish that's a pound a mile depreciation before fuel, service, insurance. I just can't get there... 🙄 No idea why the 7 speed is a thing as the 6 speed is so good...

    Maybe I'm odd, but I think I prefer the sound of a V8 more than a V12... Say what you will about the car built around it, but I think the Maserati GranTurismo's engine might be the best sounding available.
