    I love how this battle was incredibly intense, with heavy losses on both sides, and you're never sure who's going to win. And then in the end, even though the tau technically won, the Imperium just says "ah, fuck it" and burns the planet to ashes. Gotta love the the Imperium of Man, even when they lose they win.

      Those heavy losses mean nothing to the imperium though, however the tau are already running low on resources and don't have the man power

    11:30. OK so in this scenario, the Imperium are the covenant glassing the planet after losing ground Assault.

      @@alexbelle3941 This is 40k if you think they are above glassing a planet you don't understand 40k. this was an act of war to weaken the tau empire and prevent them holding an important world

      Literally the only reason the tau haven't been wiped out is because every other faction have better things to do.

    Most interesting element of this battle imo was Farsight's dramatic intervention.
    The real explanation is probably just 'plot convenience', but i feel compelled to point out that relatively precise timing like Farsight's 8th's arrival right smack during the battle is implausible for Tau forces that aren't already stationed close by, since they can't space-travel nearly as fast as most of the other major races. so either the explanation is plot convenience (i.e. a plot hole, in other words) as I said, or Farsight has some interesting powers of foresight.

    • @latrodectusmactans7592
      @latrodectusmactans7592 3 года назад

      Another possibility is that Farsight deliberately waited to make sure his intervention put him in the Tau’s good graces.

    I think if the Tau had had come to power at some other time in history, they may have had a much better chance. But as it stands now... It matters little how advanced their tech is. Their lack of numbers, and care for other living beings, means their certain doom. Any of the factions in the galaxy, if not so preoccupied with each other, could easily extinguish the Tau Empire. The Orks and Tyranids with shear numbers, the Imperium with better soldiers, and the Necrons or Eldar with superior technology. Not to mention Chaos and their corruption... Corrupt one Ethereal, and BOOM, control a portion of the entire Tau species. Just... A bad time to try their hand at the galactic table.

    • @CognizantCheddar
      @CognizantCheddar 7 лет назад +9

      Not being disrespectful, but your thesis there is exactly wrong. Please let me explain.
      If the Tau had shown up in a less stressful time for the Imperium, they'd have been doomed. As things currently are, they're actually rising at the best possible time for their chances.
      Do you realize just how stretched Tyranid incursions into the Milky Way are making Imperium forces? Take a look at this: vignette2.wikia.nocookie.net/warhammer40k/images/8/8a/Tyranid_Hive_Fleets_Galaxy_Map.jpg/revision/latest?cb=20140512084816. Now throw in Failbaddon finally opening the way for free incursions into Imperial space from the Eye, and the Imperium is in the most existential danger its been in since the Horus Heresy.
      The Imperium cannot marshal the massive forces necessary to wipe out the Tau without effectively surrendering other vast portions of their empire to other factions, maybe even endangering Terra itself; even with all their trillions, the Imperium is barely holding on in the 42nd millennium.
      Or in other words, the Milky Way is presently more of a free-for-all than it's ever been before, with the Imperium inevitably the beacon drawing everyone's attention... attention away from the Tau. Now with Leviathan seeming to be intent on reaching Terra, Abbadon obviously fixated solely on Terra, the Necron most interested in Mars and the Mechanicus, the Eldar not really interested in expansion at all, and the Orcs ever content to be disunited... this is an ideal time for a small empire on the fringes like the Tau to quietly slip in and gain an ever strengthening foothold, all the while making rapid technological advances at an unprecedented rate, provoking comparisons to humanity at the beginning of the Dark Age of Technology.
      And, obviously, all of this is exactly what GW's fluff writers have in mind.

      Andrew Ryan aren't ethereals imune to chaos the entire Tau race has little presence in the warp and they'll don't even believe in chaos so they are no no means easy to corrupt

    • @princetyrion8721
      @princetyrion8721 7 лет назад +1

      Andrew Ryan the tau race have sth like half-soul and they feelings are not mirrored in warp so i think they are mostly immune to chaos powers

    • @princetyrion8721
      @princetyrion8721 7 лет назад +1

      Andrew Ryan but other tau-imeprium species like kroots or vespidos (humans are in the tau imperium too) can be easly corrupted by chaos

    • @andrewryan1946
      @andrewryan1946 7 лет назад +1

      CognizantCheddar
      I can see your point, and I know that obviously they won't be extinguished like they should be for both fluff and crunch reasons, but it's not the Imperium I see as the biggest threat to them.
      As a matter of fact, their current state of peaceful negotiations with the Imperium is probably their best hope to survive. The only reason they keep surviving in the face of a new Xeno incursion (so far only Tyranid and Necrons) is because the Imperium was there to assist them against a shared threat.
      I think they would be mostly fine in an unassisted confrontation with Eldar... But an Ork WAAAAGH! ? The Tau are horrible at close range and have a small number of soldiers. The green tide specializes in hack and slashing with overwhelming forces. We'll have to wait and see what deus ex machina technology the Tau use to win, or which race helps them out of it.
      Also, minor addendum, the Necrons aren't really all that interested in Mars. The majority of the faction is shattered and independent. They have varying goals. However, a big shared focus seems to be the destruction of the Hive Fleets.
      The Tau are cool. They remind me of very early humanity (Dark Age of Technology) but at an exponentially faster technological growth rate. Adaptable or not, not a single person can honestly deny that unless they are helped in some form or another by the Imperium, they will not survive against the other races. Not yet, anyways. They are too young, too few, too hopeful, too ambitious. They have a long way to go before they can truly protect their own existence against the other major factions of the galaxy.

    First, where can I find this lore in books? Actual literature or just inside campaign books for the tabletop?
    Aun'va needed to go. He ruled for too long for an ethereal.
    Also, aren't the Tau supposed to have a strong resistance to warp/psyker mind abilities? Not impervious but thught it would be stronger than what Aun'va's retinue showed.

    • @LordEsel88
      @LordEsel88 7 лет назад +1

      This lore is from the two campaign books "War Zone Damocles: Kauyon" and "War Zone Damocles: Mont'ka". These books contains lore and rules for the forces fighting on planet Agrellan, or Mu'gulath Bay as it is called by the Tau. There are novels about this conflict as well from book store Black Library.

    • @latrodectusmactans7592
      @latrodectusmactans7592 3 года назад

      They don’t have resistance so much as they are just less visible due to their weak souls. While Culexus Assassins are mainly anti-Psyker, they can still kill pretty much anyone else with a psychic blast from that Animus Spectrum.
      And Aun’va’s biggest issue was that he decided to play military commander. The Ethereals are not supposed to be making these decisions; instead that’s the job of the caste leaders and the main commander (Shadowsun). Ethereals are supposed to be spiritual leaders. Yet here Aun’va is giving orders to Shadowsun, some of which turn out to be disastrous (such as insisting on visiting the battle in-person).

    Question: What are all known Tau major commanders?
    Also, can I win please please please? haha

    • @CognizantCheddar
      @CognizantCheddar 7 лет назад

      The most famous are Puretide, Farsight, Shadowsun. Puretide is basically the Socrates to Farsight/Shadowsun's Aristotle. Shadowsun seems to be pretty overrated. Farsight doesn't age anymore because his super ancient (and of unknown origins) Dawnblade is vampiric and extending his life just about indefinitely.
      According to the timeline and old codices, basically every named Tau commander in the fluff aside from Farsight should be dead by now from old age, because Tau are supposed to have an average lifespan of only 40 years or something. I think that's being retconned, though, because it's not useful to GW for merchandise purposes for the best known Tau characters to die off so quickly.

    I'm just hoping at the very least Guilliman will convince the mechanicus to stop the stagnation of tech, if we had the level of tech humanity had during the dark age of technology the Tau would be singing a very different tune as far as trying to take over everything...largely in the vain of "We the Tau are sorry for punching the bigger kid in the face and we will just go back to our side of the galaxy...please do not follow and kill us all". Or they would just surrender.
