Yep not surprised to see early 70’s glossed over and late 70’s/early 80’s ignored. A missed opportunity!

You know Disney, only wanna show the good parts and leave out the rest. It was good til I heard Kokomo

@DorisDay-lw4xs Thoughts also of Billy Connolly thinking that Jojoba was the month between September and November!

The Doc. did give us an intimate look at Carl and Dennis but totally ignored their tragic death. Instead they just gave us a death notice at the end. I thought that was strange.

There can’t be a documentary of The Beach Boys without one or all of the Wilson’s telling it.
Tired of Mike Love misrepresenting the group as it’s told through his eyes.

This documentary is kinda like Bohemian Rhapsody. If you’re just trying to get into The Beach Boys, this is a fine film. But you know it could’ve been better

I would have liked more about suing Capitol records and the fact that they substituted the best of Lp to record shops that had ordered Pet sounds. Also a modern interview with Van Dyke Parks regarding smile. I hope there must be lots more of home movies taken by the band and people around them around to shed more light into the Beach boys at their peak

I've heard there is no mention of Jan & Dean. They were the inspiration and Surfing was Baby Talk according to Mike Love. When Murray took the song to Capitol. Upon hearing it the exec's said "They sound just like Jan & Dean of course we'll sign them.." And Brian got a lot of studio knowledge from Jan Berry in including Jan being the reason not Phil for using the Wrecking Crew. BTW Jan was a full time University student studying Medicine and only could Think , Write , Arrange , Produce , Record and Preform after school (usually late at night till mid morning) and weekends. If anyone wants to question his body of work compared to the other 2 .

I agree with you mate. Way too short, Endless Harmony Doc was way better.

Why does every documentary assume we need an intro to the band? We have had that for decades! Not saying there is anything wrong with bringing in new fans. But this information is readily available! Perhaps a chapter 2 would be great. Starting with the demise of Smile and delving into the lo-fi era and the group era through Holland. Then Brian's come back with Love You and the Adult Child sessions. More about the music of Dennis, besides Forever! A bit about Carl's solo albums, Eugene Landy, the release of the Smile sessions in 2011 and the reunion would make a great ending!
Then a 3rd documentary on Brian's solo career would be awesome!

A big documentary examining The career of the beach boys, containing interviews with studio engineers, friends, family, surviving members would be great.
I think one will be made in the near future... for obvious reasons.

@filmretrospective5334 We have had some very good untypical documentaries. I Wasn't Made for these Times and Beautiful Dreamer come to mind. There is also a documentary on RUclips about Dennis.

Wanted to see the surviving members singing together on the beach at the end at it was indicated. Very disappointed it was not shown.

I agree. They left so much out. A documentary about The Beach Boys deserves to be 3 hours in length or more. Brian’s 1st number 1 Surf City isn’t mentioned.

Honestly, this should have been a multi-part mini series in order to cover more about this great band. Absolutely nothing new, and did seem to be a one sided presentation. Very disappointed, and they deserved better.

I was so sad for the older Brian when Eugene Landy wouldn't let him have his matzo ball soup! By the way, Long Promised Road said a bit more about the Landy business and how Melinda Wilson got Brian out of this.

Why is everyone surprised at the failure of this “definitive” documentary…
    …to be anywhere near definitive.
    It’s 2024.
    Attention Span…
    …came up and went.

There was already an indirect connection between Frank Marshall and the Beach Boys before this documentary. Frank's father Jack wrote television themes such as "The Munsters Theme," and also the theme for the short-lived sitcom "Karen," sung by the Beach Boys: ruclips.net/video/j3o_3iXfKR4/видео.html
