When the pandemic hit, I needed a webcam, but even the cheapest logitech ones were over $100. So I bought an Akaso Brave 4 for like $80 and after playing around with settings it's SO much better than most dedicated webcams these days, even the ones that go for quite a bit more. So unless you're using one of the fancy over $200 webcams, I'd say the Akaso would outperform it. This is using just the USB cable and no need for batteries as the cable feeds power to the camera.
@@gilmoreskeen1234mate USB 2.0 is not the reason, usb 2.0 can handle at least 30mbs. Standard 1080p 30fps video consumes 10% of that even 2k 60fps isn't an issue for usb 2.0. I'm one of those 7k that bought the Akaso. I don't use it outdoors, I use it indoors. I have it on a mount on my sewing table and use it in my streaming setup. In webcam mode, it has a lot less features. But as a webcam it's not bad, I do wish the image stabilization applied as my sewing machine does cause vibrations in the clamp mount. For my needs, honestly, it's great.
I actually use this Akaso action cam on my FPV drones. Decent video quality and weighs so little. Makes crashes a bit more affordable Thanks for the great video
I actually have the Akaso camera! Well, I have the "pro" version, the EK7000 PRO. I bought it to film some rides at Sea World and Six Flags. It still works, and I'm thinking of seeing if I can use it as a webcam now
I owned the Akaso brand before. It is great for those on a budget and those who do not care about audio much. Really great footage underwater and a butt load of accessories.
Just get an used Point-and-Shoot from 5-10 years ago. I paid equivalent of 30 bucks for two cameras, one for my kids, and one just for fun of it. And both take decent photos and support at least HD 720p...
@thecapitalg samsung dv100/101 for example! i have one and it's HD 720p. i also have a Samsung wb350f and would totally recommend it if you want 1080p!
I believe that Akaso makes the best GoPro alternatives for the price. Ive had their action cameras in the past and they all met my expectations. Some models even have almost identical stabilization to the GoPro (by running it thru an app ofc).
I would buy something like the Akaso for an 8 year old child who is interested in getting into using an action camera. They could get half decent results and my £300 Osmo Action 3 would stay safe. If they get really interested I would buy them better kit as they get older. Edit. My cheaper Akaso V50X (which I use where there is a possibility of the camera getting lost or damaged or when sound quality doesn't matter) developed a fault in the 2 year warranty period. After a quick exchange of emails. including a video of the fault,Akaso posted out a replacement as soon as I sent proof of postage for returning the original. I can't praise their customer service enough.
I have been in television for 29 years. I was in the analog to digital transition and several complete editing suite revamps. As a video creator I was constantly looking for thibgs , such as plug-ins to create retro looking 8mm footage. The plug-in did somewhat of a decent job but I still vouldnt find the look I was after. One day I bought obe of these 1080p ( not even close) cameras off of WISH. They really are crap. However, the do provide the exact look of an old camera. I used a couple of filters to add a little over exposure. The sightly overexposed look and lack of image stability made the perfect retro beach scene that looked really close to 8mm film from the early 60s. These "fauxPro" cameras are perfect if you're ever trying to build that look without having render times. Try it, you will be surprised
i use Akaso's cameras as a gopro alternative. im using the Brave 4 right now to get shots inside of a reptile tank and and another one getting welding footage close up
Tbf that camera wasnt “bad” for 100 bucks. But i mean, i would rather go for a cheap old canon camera still… some of the older used dslr’s are 1000x better at around the same price
i used to own that action cam and i actually really miss it, i lost it somehow. i will say when i used it underwater i never noticed any condensation so i think it may just be a case that varies between people
I bought my daughter a cheapo camera years ago and she really took to it so we got her a better one. I think having a cheap camera is good in situations like that or in situations where you don't mind losing your camera.
I think the most interesting things are the very cheap action cams. I would use it as a Webcam because webcams are still damn expensive and have a worse quality than the action cams
guys just buy older cameras. most people dont need 4k images and trust me even a professional camera or an expensive point and shoot from the 2000s is still pretty solid nowadays
Yeah they are dude,, ive been use a panisonsonic hmc 150 rn for a short film and on the ing that is relatively bad is the screen rez on the screeb part. And mind you you can buy them used for like 750-1000
Cool, I had a no-name action camera, and it is very freeing not to worry about expensive gear getting damaged. Honestly, if it has at least 24fps HD and a good internal mic, there is nothing more you need to capture something memorable. I am considering buying the Panasonic V380 just because the constant zooming in and out on random things makes videos so funny to me. Thanks for the video.
Probably a good first time camera for child to practice their photo skills, but again cell cams are next level of competition. Perhaps a cheap surveillance device, 50$... I have tried to previous under water Verizon, but not but not impress. The software is the magic of image capture...
Akaso cams are pretty decent. Used one as a helmet camera for a while on my honda shadow. The footage was solid but the mic HATED the wind noise and would peak at idle because of the bikes loud exhaust. The one i had didnt have external mic support unfortunately, so now i just use it as a webcam with my dedicated mic as the audio input.
Most of these reviews are making me feel ok about the fact that I bought this exact Akaso camera tonight. I've been videoing with my Samsung A42 phone, but it's a practical joker and though it always looks like it's recording, many times it has surprised me with several minutes of missing video. I will not be using the Akaso for the sudio though.
And if you rate it 1 ⭐ star. The Chinese seller will message you, offering a refund and to keep the product. In exchange for you to remove the negative review😅
The only one that makes sense for me is the Akaso Action cam, because I can understand that one wants to take videos in the water or during sports, just stick it on a helmet or on the bike or whatever and don't want destroy the expansive smartphone. But for the other two. Why should I carry around an extra camera with me, when the quality is much worse then the photo and video from my phone that I have with me anyway?
You are waaayy to kind to these scameras, I hate seeing these all over amazon, and just knowing all the people that have been scammed by them I honestly think you should have ripped them apart. You give the impression that they are OK, when we all know and can see they are complete trash.
Great video ! I my self own a 56€ Action Camera and while i finally have a Canon EOS 1100, it still is fun and a generally good camera. There's no stabilisation on it but it can do time lapse (wich looks surprisingly amazing). You just have to not accidentally set it to "narrow" POV as the anti fishing lens just crops the image and you get less quality. I have posted a clouds timelapse short. Thanks for taking your money on these products and review it for curious people or people that want to start photography as a hobby. I got my DSLR to expland my amateur Astrophotography, wich teached me too alot about how cameras work and how to use them (as in astrophotography you tend to use a dedicated camera (essentially, a overpised sensor with q usb port built for astronomy)
Buy a cheap refurbished Samsung S20 Fe 5g and you'll have a good phone, camera, and gaming device! Heck even the Galaxy S9 can be had for $100 and takes respectable pictures still!✨😶
One look at the sensor on the cameras tells me all I need to know. There is no lens on them just a $3 trash sensor you would find on a $30 android phone. The 4k "Vlogging" camera was just a 1080p webcam being upscaled to say its 4k.
You said the Akaso EK7000 records continuous, right? How about just mounting it with a power cable to a vehicle and record an entire drive with 1080p as a sort of cheap dashcam?
Ive seen some of the camcorders with a night vision option. I wonder what the quality of those it. The action camera looks ok for a holiday, where you might not want to risk a go-pro.
I have a similar model of Akaso I got secondhand with most of it's accessories, honestly not horrible for a cheap action camera that might get beat to shit, probably going to keep it on my E-bike
I enjoy letting my grandkids use the Akaso EK7000 and an older Crosstour camera (same shape, size, format) in their waterproof cases. They have yet to make any video worth seriously editing, but they think they are doing something cool... Frankly, the EK7000 isn't horrible, and I use it (and the Crosstour) as "disposable" backup...
Best bet is buying a used canon point and shoot or camcorder from eBay. I’ve done it, you get better quality for the $$. Only 1080p tho but that’s fine for quick moment capture. The cameras I got from eBay were the canon powershot sx40 hs for 80$, Canon Vixia HF R50 $90. Not perfect but definitely reliable
Amazing how much audio quality have influence on the video quality nowadays Smartphone cameras are amazing so if you starting up and don't have the money just get a decent microphone and you ready to roll
Akaso, and Brica is a pretty good and cheap alternative to GoPro, the image won't be as good as Hero 4 or 5 but it's good enough as a dashcam, motovlog, and webcam. those cam get quite hot, so i switch the waterproof door with the one that have a hole in it to prevent condensation (it get condensation even if you haven't put it underwater). and those camera is quite a tank too because i've drop mine couple times and even accidentally drop it into a pool without it's waterproof cases and after drying it out for a day, it still work! so condensation is not really a problem :D
*Clearly, the AKASO EK7000 is the best of the 3.* Nice test. I actually ordered this for the same price you did and for the same reason --- a "spare" camera just to have fun with, and also use it as a "test" prior to using my GoPro 9 Black. I'm somewhat impressed --- again, for the price. 4K@30pfs is pretty good -- but quite constrasty. I also have an AKASO V50 Elite and an AKASO Brave 7 LE.
I think this video kinda goes to show that audio really can compensate for bad video. Yeah the video quality is garbage compared to any real camera or smartphone, but if you pair it with a good microphone and know how to make the most of what you got you can really make some decent videos with it.
Akaso actually makes decent cameras, the quality is definitely good for its price. And the stabilization needs work. But its affordable and one of the better alternative
I think I'm going to nab one of those camcorders or action cameras, I have a dead old sony video 8 camera that I'd like to gut and put that cameras insides into, make it still useful and the footage was surprisingly decent
This was a really fun video! Awesome stuff. The $53 camcorder was surprisingly decent looking. With a little color adjustment, it would look 90% similar to the Sony footage. That's mostly thanks to your fantastic lighting which affects quality a lot more than people think!
I got the 4K version of that camcorder to test for Vine, and it's actually pretty decent. The only real problem with it is that it requires a MASSIVE amount of light. The sensor must be really small. If they put a better sensor on it, it would be a great camcorder. The advantage of a camcorder over a mirrorless/DLSR is unlimited recording time. A mirrorless/DLSR has a maximum of 30 minutes per video, but a camcorder will record continuously until either the battery dies or the SD card fills.
I have like old cameras. But not to many cheap ones I have the no pros. I used them for second shots. Now I have two canon camcorders that type. And I use them because the qaulity is there for audio and video. For vlogs. I have a cheap action camera AEE and it bears the no pros. I have all the go pros out all of them. And nice cameras Nikon to canon. I do not have the newest or the high priced ones. I have what I like to use.
In addition to my "serious" photo and video gear, I have one Akaso and one no-name camera that is exactly the same. I've used them for over five years as "dashcams" in my motorcycle trips, underwater, and in all outdoor environments, and they still work well. Forget 4K, of course. The HD image quality is similar to my old GoPros, but the battery lasts longer... So I ditched my GoPro and now I enjoy my GoPoor :)
Thank you for a reality slap! I almost bought one.... Maybe i'll buy the first cam, if i am bored and want to spend money.... I'll just buy a phone with the same price as the brandless cam. Honor phones had a nice camera for a budget price smartphone.
Now, this is going to be interesting. I'm a professional portrait photographer and photo teacher. I shoot Canon, I have two FF bodies, two crop (one of them mirrorless)...and a Lumix, kind of a thing I carry around. And EF lenses and Sigma ART and strobes and flashes and soft boxes and reflectores and smoke machines and... :D But I have been wondering about this, how is these dirt cheap cameras really?? I'm out in the woods a lot, I live in the middle of them, in Norway. We have a lot of weather, it would be nice to have a camera I couldn't care less about. :D 35 sec into the video...let's see. ;)
And when you search the sensor on these cameras you see that they have not the MP they say and only expand the picture size. The action came cheap things have most only 8mp max
Had that Camcorder thingy bought on amazon. Tested 3 Minutes and sended it back. Its a 480p upscaled to 1080. Useable for small children to play with maybe but thats it. The action cam i use for bike riding and its good when set on 1080p.
I just hate how most cameras have the physical resolution for 4k video but only really do 1080p which is disappointing when you pay for a camera that sells for over 1k new because a 300$ phone does higher video resolutions.
In my opinion and research before a camera can claim to be 4k it should have an 8mp sensor and resolution setting in its menu the second of which practically every camera Can fill but every camera at the £50 or less range has only 5mp sensor or less if its a even cheaper camera but they Are good for a standard 6 by 4 photo which you only need a 5mp setting for
all of these are alright for getting into real basic vlogging in a controlled environment. the action camera is nice. take it out and even if it gets destroyed it was $60ish bucks. Truly one of those you get what you pay for. and thats not much
I like how the camcorder said "bye-bye" when it ran out of battery 🤣
🤫🧏♂️
As a scamera enthusiast, I can say that most of these are basically 10 year old webcams with an extra zero added to the end of the megapixel count.
SCAMera's
yup. small sensors fixed aperture.. I was given the "camcorder" one, but it has a night shot mode.. guess who has an easy IR camera...
Not webcams. Most use 20 year old dashcam chips.
i once bought a 4k drone and it was literally just 480p but the file size was 4k lol like you could count hte pixels 💀
Wait, are there any camera you would recommend?
15:16 Surprisingly it's a decent quality 720p 120fps footage.
I agree
Agreed! It has trouble with the higher rates, possibly because of a very small sensor. But 720 looks quite crisp!
yeah, the 4K sucks but the 720p and 1080p is quite good on this cheap action cam

Thanks for doing this - It's much appreciated and well worthwhile
*Clearly, the AKASO EK7000 is the best of the 3.* Nice test. I actually ordered this for the same price you did and for the same reason --- a "spare" camera just to have fun with, and also use it as a "test" prior to using my GoPro 9 Black. I'm somewhat impressed --- again, for the price. 4K@30pfs is pretty good -- but quite constrasty. I also have an AKASO V50 Elite and an AKASO Brave 7 LE.
so interesting .. please do about drone cheap too
Did you just call $100 “cheap”?
The camera he use is 3000$, so yes they are cheap I guess ahaha
For camera hundred percent do the camera that caused like I don’t know like $5000 for a good quality camera
If 100 is not cheap what is?
@@That2jguy like 20 bucks
I think this video kinda goes to show that audio really can compensate for bad video. Yeah the video quality is garbage compared to any real camera or smartphone, but if you pair it with a good microphone and know how to make the most of what you got you can really make some decent videos with it.
I'm so curious to see what's inside these cameras
Akaso actually makes decent cameras, the quality is definitely good for its price. And the stabilization needs work. But its affordable and one of the better alternative
22:26 🤮🤮🤮🤮
9:12 🤮🤮🤮🤮
I would honestly play catch with the camcorder
"Got the user manual but we don't look at those". Spoken like a true man🤣🤣
so i have a gopro now, but before that i used to use the akaso brave 7 (one of their best models lol) and it did not disapoint!
can we get a 50$ budget cameras video ?
I think I'm going to nab one of those camcorders or action cameras, I have a dead old sony video 8 camera that I'd like to gut and put that cameras insides into, make it still useful and the footage was surprisingly decent
Seems like the camera audio input was set up to receive a mic level signal and the Røde wl sends a line level output. So it's distorting.
To be honest the 4k vlogging camera was pretty good
If these were in “fun” colors, they would make great toys for kids… assuming they didn’t have a hand-me-down iPhone that shoots true 4k
What is the fancy wood tripod you use?
It’s an ifootage Timberpod 😀
@@FoxTailWhipz thx
I have what I like to use.
you should have touched the lens of the first one. I'm curious if it was glass or hard plastic
So I ditched my GoPro and now I enjoy my GoPoor :)
doesn’t work for filming but like you could get a professional film camera off of eBay for 100 or even 50 dollars
Thank you for a reality slap! I almost bought one.... Maybe i'll buy the first cam, if i am bored and want to spend money.... I'll just buy a phone with the same price as the brandless cam. Honor phones had a nice camera for a budget price smartphone.
he looks like freddie dredd
35 sec into the video...let's see.
The action cam i use for bike riding and its good when set on 1080p.
scamazon
I just hate how most cameras have the physical resolution for 4k video but only really do 1080p which is disappointing when you pay for a camera that sells for over 1k new because a 300$ phone does higher video resolutions.
In my opinion and research before a camera can claim to be 4k it should have an 8mp sensor and resolution setting in its menu the second of which practically every camera
Can fill but every camera at the £50 or less range has only 5mp sensor or less if its a even cheaper camera but they
Are good for a standard 6 by 4 photo which you only need a 5mp setting for
7:23 I hope this is NOT the audio of a Rode microphone.
all of these are alright for getting into real basic vlogging in a controlled environment. the action camera is nice. take it out and even if it gets destroyed it was $60ish bucks.
Truly one of those you get what you pay for. and thats not much
