I graduated with an Engineering Physics degree from NIT Agartala last month, and I would definitely say that the diversity of coursework in the EP program is very appealing! We had a good mix of math, physics, analytical chemistry, materials science, numerical methods, programming, semiconductor physics and economics, apart from electives. For someone who's interested, there are ample online resources to study these exciting topics, and honestly, one's curiosity will only grow with time. Despite a small batch size of 20-25, and the program being only 11 years old, our alumni (who were indeed motivated) are well placed in their careers both in academia and in corporate houses. I personally know many seniors who have gone into core engineering programs (like, EE, ME, AE, MSE) for their M. Tech. or PhD degree following their B. Tech. in EP, because during the undergraduate program, they discovered their 'calling'. I certainly believe that EP in IITs would offer far more academic prospects than I had at NIT-A. Anyways, it was great to see Prof. Chakraborty and Prof. Kajuri together in one frame :) The session was spot on!
I am also interested in physics but my family wants me to do cse in nit and get a good job , thus can you please tell the placement data of EP and also in which company (IT or core ) , as I am not able to find this clearly in internet.

My 2 cents on this being an IIT DEP student: Deep Learning in Physics doesnt have a direct use case but DL models are widely used in finding Hamiltonian of complex systems. Hamiltonian is an imprtant function that allows to find dynamics of the system. This is more towards applied mech side but EP guys can work here. Several GNNS are trained to accuarately find Hamiltonian of Quantum and complex classical systems. Second use case is in high energy physics. Data sets from CERN is analyzed using regression models. I dont know the exact details of it though as I have very limited knowledge of High energy phy. How to study EP? Studying EP should be done to maximize employabilty. We study lot of linear algebra. (study it very well) Linear algebra is very imp for ML and AI. So while studying LA, pick up libraries like NumPy, tensorFlow. When studying Probability/ Statistical phy, pick up learning about probability models and stochastic processes. This is extremely useful in quant/finance. In fact Black Scholes eqn was solved by physicists as it was similar to the brownian motion. Though EP has very less direct employability, (unlike CS). One can be smart and pick up practical skills along with their curriculum.
