Not govt. Say "Judiciary". State Govt. tried to cover up, hide real culprits, attempt to tamper evidence because this is beyond women safety but an illegal organ trafficking case which was to be exposed through the victim and state politicians are related to this, so to search true "murderers", big political ,afia heads would turn up.
Don't devastate muskan. One day this worst thinking will surely change, just society needs change of mindset, with maturity of we upcoming youth , with greater maturity.😢
I assure you nothing is going to change. After Nirbhaya in Delhi in 2012, I myself went out , campaigned and did whatnot. What did it bring ? A big null or zero. Political vultures will keep playing hypocritic games and start shouting when the blame is on someone else and not themselves. Corruption and nepotism are at their peak today. Every exm’s sanctity is down the drain. 7 Lakh 30 thousand left India for abroad last year for studies. It’s time to hang our heads in shame as Indians.
Because system doesn't change. Like Mulayam Yadav said once before 2014 election, "Boys will be boys, they do it in(rape) in Josh". Now Mamata says, "Due to increase in male-female connections, rape is happening", Previously called rapes as "minor incident", "affair-related", in 2013 called "rape having a body is normal, just like fever". Now sot just girls due to male politicians, boys due to female politicians also need to fear.
In Nirbhaya Case, the police cooperated . For the first time police & state government cooperated with rapists. And bet up peaceful Protestors!!! Thanks to CJI who bashed state government saying state power cannot be used over peaceful Protestors.
More men are murdered every year than women still I haven't seen any men fearing to go out at night , even if we include rape cases more men die every year due to violence
dang this is actually impressive. to be honest, most older men around me (my dad, some uncles and my neighbors) have ignored this and for some reason dont want to educate the smaller children about patriarchy and misogyny, and that feels very weird to me. As far as i can understand, my dad still thinks he is "higher" than my mom even if he is a neet, trying to shut her mouth whenever shes trying to voice an opinion(shes the breadwinner of the family and a respected professor), and that shocks me a lot. What i could infer from this is that many middle aged men and older men tend to claim that women have an equal share of the blame since they apparently tempted the men, almost as if they are asking for "it", by wearing clothes that beat the conventional stereotype of "womanly clothing". But seeing people like you talk about this behaviour and give genuinely good suggestions to mitigate the problem or atleast decrease the scale of sexism by taking a few progressive steps makes me feel like theres still some hope left in this country. Thank you for the video sir, we all appreciate your willingness to call the behaviour out. wishing you all the best.
To be utterly honest, I somewhat agree with the "many middle aged men and older men" who "tend to claim that women have an equal share of the blame...". Think hard, use your brain cells. You will reach the same conclusion. (And keep social media propaganda away while you think)

Everyone has to understand this. I have been trying to explain same thing to my male counterpart who has been feeling attacked. Some of my friends from IIT itself had shared what kind of talks happen in mess and how unapologetically boys there discuss about some certain body parts of girls who are none other than their classmates and other known ones. I was shocked and very hurt to know this but this was even more scary to hear because most of those academically bright students will hold prominent societal positions. Where are we heading towards? Thank you sir for making this video. I have shared this video with everyone as the last hope to make them understand.

I am really glad that you made this video. It is the need of the hour. The concept of education is not just about learning the subject but the overall development of one's personality and that includes how you present yourself in a society. You are right that where the numbers are skewed, the onus is on the majority section to make sure that the minority section feels safe. Especially in core engineering groups where boys far outnumber the girls. You are also right that how you behave in private will spill over to your public behaviour. The concepts like ethics and morality need to be imparted to the students. And finally, I would say Chivalry is still an attribute which is much valued even today and will always be.
Thank you. These are some things which I have felt strongly for a long time. But in light of recent events, I felt if I don't speak about these now, then when.
I hope that every boy protects every girl and not only his own loved ones. You obtain infinite aura when a girl feels safe around you, be it your own sister or someone else's. Happy Rakhi.
I am extremely grateful to you, Professor, for this video. It is the need of the hour. Good teachers like you must drill down in the minds of young boys the importance of decent behaviour. If youth are not taught these values at a young age, they will turn out to be wild beasts in their adulthood.
Thanks a lot, professor, for bringing this up! It would have been so easy to steer clear of this issue, but we need more and more of us to speak about this.
I really love this video. I've experienced many of the same issues that girls face, and it can be hard to speak up about it because of societal expectations. When you talked about boys using bad language and other behaviors, it resonated with me. There's still a lot happening in India right now related to this.
A real teacher whether at medical or engineering or any other stream at any level should not forget that he / she is also a teacher for the society as a whole. A teacher is a builder of a good society. Propellers of your video are directed towards that building. I, being the father, is very much happy with you for your little effort to inculcate a very important lesson among the students.

Sir, though you made very good points based on your real experiences, essentially it suggests to watch out one's promiscuous and objectifying behaviour. My fundamental question is that promiscuity between boys & girls and objectifying is much more common and open in western countries, yet we do not hear such horrendous crimes against women there and women by and large feel safe there. Even in Arab countries, we don't hear such crimes against women, though their thoughts against women can be more regressive. It happens mostly in South East Asian countries where political and judicial system is not strong.
Actually, the statistics may be a bit surprising: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rape_statistics. In many western, developed countries, the number is quite high. However, we must also remember that in our country many cases do go unreported. Nevertheless our perception is built on what is reported and even that perception may be wrong.
"objectifying is much more common and open in western countries" There is a difference between two kinds of 'objectifications'. One is embracing explicitness and it happens with consent, the one you mention. The other type of harmful objectification is that without any regards to consent and personal rights. That one where men believe that women are their properties and it is normal to consider them as toys for their pleasure. It is all about respecting others as fellow humans or not.
So here is a thing. 1st of all ideally, ethically, morally, there should be 0 crimes against women. No doubt abt that. But still, as we know tht unfortunately ideal stuffs r never the reality. So Lets analyse the data to understand few things. In US nearly 125,000 rape cases were reported in a yr. In India, tht was around 25,000. Even if u assume many cases r unreported, let's say 2,3 or even 4 times (unlikely), still these r lower than the countries with much lesser population like the USA. So India doesn't hve rape pandemic as people assume. (Although there should be almost zero such offences). But that's only the peak level of crime against women'sdignity. The Main Problem here is that, in this Gender Segregated Semi Industrialised, semi literate society, there is little to no interaction with women other than in the family. Such an environment produces incels, loosers who engage in Staring, Cat calling, Eve teasing , which makes women of India feel unsafe everywhere. There is a pandemic of this thing in India which the women of Western countries do not hve to deal with nd hence they feel relatively much safer. As far as Arab countries r concerned, strict Shariah law is enough to scare the sheet of the potential criminals nd that's y lesser crime is there.
Sir we will become what you are expecting from us but many are there who will still like that , for them what is the solution . Most of the time I see that men and boys use to stare girls , which makes me feel very angry but I am not able to do something . A fear stops me that they are bad , they can harm me and my age also tells that you are just a 17 year old kid. There should be something that can stop these bad persons for this type of behavior. And I agree with your all points . Atleast we who are educated should not do these type of things like: intentionally misbehaving with any girl , staring at them , treating them as inferior.
Definitely, education isn't just about acquiring knowledge it is about developing character, upholding morals and ethics. The trend of using inappropriate slangs and coarse language just to appear cool and fit in is indeed concerning and it is great to see you addressing these issues with such understanding. Thank you, Sir.🙏
the thought that this expression of pain and lived experience shown by women is not a blame game painting all men are assaulters and rather just a uncomfortable truth that occurs often and their speaking out is a way of them expressing anger and pain to the public for people to understand is the most rational take I have heard today

Good to see someone I respect and follow talk about this. The fact that something as horrific as this could happen in a city like Kolkata in the year 2024 is enough to show that this can happen anywhere and to anyone. In my school at least, as I’ve personally observed, there has been no acknowledgment of anything that has happened, no discussions, no nothing, which is disheartening to say the least. To see boys in my class and around me openly making r*pe jokes and casually saying “Its just a joke” makes me worry not only about what kind of men we’re raising, but also about the kind of society I’ll be finding myself in in the next 10 years, and as a girl its just frightening. Whats worse is that none of the girls seem to object either except a handful, its like everyone is detached from reality, drifting in a dreamy realm. Whether that, or we’ve been brainwashed to the extent that even the girls have come to accept this as normal and “just a joke”. I don’t know if this is specific to my school/ community, but whatever it is, we need to do better.
Well said Sir. But I don’t know, how many incidents will keep happening every now and then. It’s very much heart wrenching being a woman, being a mother of a girl child. God save Indian women and girls. I can’t imagine the level of pain, her parents are undergoing. Oh my God.
I really don't know how much such extreme situations will improve. But, my hope is that we can start educating our boys at least regarding the civility of everyday interactions right from school.

Great to see an academic teacher take up the subject. And your audience/young minds will benifit from the theory. However there is scientific evidence of the decline of testosterone and the rise of women. This has created fear among men, and the fight back is , obviously, comeing from testosterone! And that is violence! But this is the last burst of a dying candle. The days of macho men and bullies; strong men and authoritarian bigots is coming to an end. The rise of women will overwhelm everything with compassion and empathy. 12:28

Sir I already liked you since the first video that I watched. You definitely felt like a thoughtful human which is rare nowadays. This video propelled up that respect even more. ❤ I think, more matured men speaking about these is far more impactful than women who are known to be feminists themselves. I am saying this because no matter how much some women may speak or highlight the same topics as you excellently managed to do, the validation we get from older generation or respected individuals is far more impactful otherwise its all men vs women rivalry on the internet. I like how precise and thoughtful you are in your approach. Please sir our generation seriously needs open discussions than those short video formats we have these days. Once again thank you sir❤
Thank you for the really kind words. And, you are right that the new generation needs to have a serious discussion openly and honestly. And, all this should start at school itself.

Justification of sexual harrasment is given as men being hardwired and having base animal instinct but we are living in the 3rd decade of 21st century. We claim to be living in a civilised society. If we can't overcome this base animal instinct, what good are we ? Is our claim of being in a civilized society really true then ? So, even if our animal instinct is propelling us to do something like that, can we not curtail it, or atleast have the self-awareness to do this in a deliberate fashion ? This is something to ponder upon. 💯👌👏👏👏

Important topic! Boys need to be sensitized and taught the "limits". Movies, web series etc which kids these days grow up watching, have absolutely incorrect depiction of male-female interactions. The language at hostels not spilling out in classrooms shouldn't be a valid defence for any student. Even if they don't speak, their mindset and thinking process is still in their brain, out among the public. Or at the very least, they'll have a house and family eventually where they'll have trouble being "open". Shared spaces are a nightmare. I have a rather rigid sense of personal space and people around me have a tough time acknowledging that men can have physical boundaries. I feel sorry for my female counterparts who have to face "accidental touching" by men. I personally stand by my opinion that a second touch on a female by same male person is RARELY accidental. Its not all men for sure. But most men of my age with whom I've had candid interaction have allowed their problematic mindset spill out. And its not just students I'm talking about. Intentionally keeping this comment short. I have strong views about it, I might end up writing a research paper.
How many of the teaching faculty particularly at professional colleges feel that they should teach their students about how to behave apart from regular classes…?
7:10 It should be a message to the girls also not only to the boys to not be a silent bystander in just keep listening. Sadly woman themselves have become accepting of these disrespectful sexual badmouthing and I've met some, who I think consider it cool also (Also the proportion is very low). I've never understood the point of including the abuses in regular conversations. Maybe when you actually mean the thing saying that may not be bad. But in most cases, while someone is conversing normally also, they tend to include a lot of abuses. Some people just tell it in a cool manner. Its really depressing to such behaviour among the people in college. In my undergrad years, I've seen some students talking obscene things at all moments even when they are close to the girls. When some girls objected, they just act like immature people or beccome more abusive or violent or sarcasmic. Thank you for this video. I hope more people will be aware of these things and it will come more in general understanding and talks of the boys.
Sir I have one question about your point about stepping up when other boys use the bad slangs, you also realize right?, that 9 out of 10 boys are addicted to using such language. In fact even many girls are using such language. I have even seen many academically gifted students using horrible language even for simple talk. And when one boy goes to stop them, the 7 out of those 9 will just criticize that boy and say they are making a big fuss out of this. While only 2 might understand the matter. And we can't say about girls. What do you say about this?
That means the 7 are insensitive aswell? Stupid question, that was the whole point. then again little slang is fine and it's human nature but there's a limit.
@@mehulshakya1153yes exactly those 7 are insensitive, and they don't have the ability to understand how their slangfull conversations might affect others. Believe me, I have even met such boys in my school bus itself, even if the girls felt uncomfortable, they would keep on doing their conversing without a care. Even after a girl complained about them to the school, they still continued after a couple of days of break.
@@Your_Study_Buddy_SDHey there! Just want to say here that even if 7 are the insensitive ones but the other 2 realise, that's still something. You should laud yourself for taking a stand on this whether or not others eventually understand their mistake or not. And it might happen that you get support from girls who're feeling uncomfortable with this type of behaviour. Calling out such behaviour builts societal pressure to stop such conduct. So don't ever think that what you'll do will go in vain. Thanks and best wishes.
folks, don't be afraid to become the nth person to speak up, assuming "n-1 people are already there what use must I be any further", if you have a strong ideology regarding the society you WANT to LIVE at!!
The group of students i share my surroundings in the class is uncomfortable to me as a male, their jokes everytime is related to sexual abuse to females and males too and about changing my surroundings i would like to say that the students i sit with are the top 150 rankers of the coaching out of 1600+ students, our batch is considered one of the finest batches of the coaching. But the language they mostly use feels discomforting to me no wonder how disgusting it would sound to the girls in our class. Bystander you mentioned, yes i'm a bystander unfortunately maybe its the thought of being hated by them or whatever; I just happen to focus on my myself and singing rather joining in their chats.
you provided a very good perspective about cuss words.I am going to consciously try to not include maa aur behen ki gaali in my language.I dont know if i am immature i cant just seem to find how i am going to make fun of my friends without some of the cuss words.Maybe some day i will stop using this language
I haven't achieved much in my 22 years of life but one thing that I'm proud of is that I never cuss. At most I say" kutta " . But yes I was the bystander in school. I will try to change that when I'll have friends.
A recent incident in iit Mumbai they staged a drama glorifying the ravan and women abuser ….even iit education could not give these students conscience.
First, thanks for bringing this topic, sir i want to add some points teaching equality among boys and girls is very very important and in movies showcasing of assault as love must be changed and i HIGHLY recommend everyone to watch '''''''' Mohak mangal video "why India has rape problem " '''''''' that is a kind of video that should be watched by everyone
Dear brothers and friends, please watch and share this precious lecture by JC Sir (IITKGP). If some people who mostly tie their watches in exactly the other hand, which usually we do, feel uncomfortable because of our different types of behavior and different types of eye contact, then that's our problem, not theirs. Please teach those lusty creatures who are the garbage of our cosmos. Respect everyone and be humble because: Life is good when you're happy, but it's much better when others are happy because of you.
Sir, an aptly made video. Young minds should be sensitized to the concept that Men and Women are complementary to each other by the design of nature. We need to learn to coexist or we will cease to exist.
Thank you Sir We really need such clarity of thoughts of growth and inclusion, so that we come out of the default mode that our society is moving on. More inclusive thoughts will lead to a safer environment for both genders, which will ultimately lead us towards a developed nation.
Thank you sir for you shoutout on this topic. And yes, you are true that girls being a girl use these kind of abusive words in their daily life . though they know the meaning of these words and still use these words which in fact made on us to shame and disrespect us. i don't think so that using these words makes you cool or gives you fame . I have recently joined Chandigarh university(mechanical engineering) and have seen many boys and girls using these words and literally when ever i hear these words i feel pain in my ears , i feel discomfort. These words gives so much negativity to me. we humans are literally below to animals , disrespecting own body parts by using bad words and thinking it makes us cool, how? and i also think that this is the reason why s*x education is taboo topic in world.
Namaste Sir ! Will try to limit down our and my coarse language usage but really as you told, in delhi ( colleges ) the work or sometimes the life in hostel in itself just makes some like me rant on certain topics and often these words usually are actually meant towards women which indirectly injects a more of an objective status of a women rather than as of a living being. Elite colleges may even be same as that of a normal local college if we compare their mannerisms in hostel as it maybe the only place to safely talk in this way but also it can be the starting of something bad too.

Being a teenager I can suggest interacting with close and trusted males, who can assure you safety and are respectful of certain boundaries. Because no one can avoid interacting with opposite gender right? I cannot suggest anymore than these because I don't know how to share certain facts in a way that don't offend anyone
Bhut saal ho gaye ab tak to ache se research karke solution pata kar liya hoga aapne use batayen jara?
More men are murdered every year than women still I haven't seen any men fearing to go out at night , even if we include rape cases more men die every year due to violence

Good Parenting is most important now a days....
I appreciate your effort to bring this out Prof Chakraborty. This is much needed. 🙏
dang this is actually impressive. to be honest, most older men around me (my dad, some uncles and my neighbors) have ignored this and for some reason dont want to educate the smaller children about patriarchy and misogyny, and that feels very weird to me.
Thank you. And, I sincerely believe that the awareness and education in this regard must start in the schools.
@@Prof_JC Definitely !! I'm so proud of men like you.
To be utterly honest, I somewhat agree with the "many middle aged men and older men" who "tend to claim that women have an equal share of the blame...". Think hard, use your brain cells. You will reach the same conclusion.
(And keep social media propaganda away while you think)

JC has spoken. Will share this..i am not even in engg but a stem postgraduate and phd dropout and religiously listen to all your videos.
You don't know what you're contributing to the society by these primary accomplishable steps for all of us as students,as we're not aware about where to start these mindset reforms so as to not getting these horrific incidents repeated.
As a girl myself, thankyou for emphasising on this cause and we need more men like you !
Huge respect to you prof.🙏
This is the most relatable yet professional discussion on the topic of women safety in the lesser focused yet more predominant domain, especially in the context of colleges. Thank you, sir for speaking on these topics.
Thank you for the kind comment, Parijat.
We are just grateful professor that someone talk on this .Since now we are in the college we will create a better environment for girls than today and try to implement these into actions.I will also these videos to my friends..
Sir, I promise you that I will try my best to never make a woman feel uncomfortable.
glad to see a jee mentor/iit prof speaking up when others didnt
Valid point, appreciate taking up this important topic 🤝
I'm too guilty of the grazing. Once, I was in class 10, I had a crush, to whom I would stare all day long. I didn't realize this until class 11 how horrendous this act is. Even in early class 11 did the shameful act
Thanks for understanding! It's very uncomfortable...
1st view 🤗.
Also will definitely do everything you said and make a safe environment for our sisters❤.
🔥👏🏼💛
You are the kind of people I want to call a real teacher or the highest owner in my opinion: ' Guru ' , dhanyawad guruji
I got admission in delhi university, not an engineering aspirant but you are a great teacher and a great man regardless, thankyou for your guidance, this youtube channel is gold
"objectifying is much more common and open in western countries"
There is a difference between two kinds of 'objectifications'.
As far as Arab countries r concerned, strict Shariah law is enough to scare the sheet of the potential criminals nd that's y lesser crime is there.
thank you for voicing out on this! if men start teaching other men regarding such topics, many things will improve.
Atleast we who are educated should not do these type of things like: intentionally misbehaving with any girl , staring at them , treating them as inferior.
do what you can in your own capacity! teach your nieces, nephews, young kids. Stop the kids and the teens around you from consuming adult content.

the thought that this expression of pain and lived experience shown by women is not a blame game painting all men are assaulters and rather just a uncomfortable truth that occurs often and their speaking out is a way of them expressing anger and pain to the public for people to understand is the most rational take I have heard today

this is actually really helpfull towards betterment of society in creating a friendly and safe environment for everyone.
@@Prof_JC yeah, that may help to some extent. These kind of news just take away my sleep for few days. Let God bring justice to that poor soul

I have strong views about it, I might end up writing a research paper.
the fact that we have to teach things like this tells a lot about the condition of our society.
I think you may not have seen the whole video. Towards the end, I touch upon this point.
Very good.

that is a kind of video that should be watched by everyone

Dear brothers and friends, please watch and share this precious lecture by JC Sir (IITKGP).
If some people who mostly tie their watches in exactly the other hand, which usually we do, feel uncomfortable because of our different types of behavior and different types of eye contact, then that's our problem, not theirs. Please teach those lusty creatures who are the garbage of our cosmos.
Respect everyone and be humble because:
Life is good when you're happy, but it's much better when others are happy because of you.
Sir I will to my best to tranform your teaching in action ...
That is I'll take responsibility to make formal and public environment more safer ...

Sir, an aptly made video. Young minds should be sensitized to the concept that Men and Women are complementary to each other by the design of nature. We need to learn to coexist or we will cease to exist.
Really appreciate your thoughts.
Not just Physical contact makes a girl feel uncomfortable. The words matter, too!
Thank you Sir
We really need such clarity of thoughts of growth and inclusion, so that we come out of the default mode that our society is moving on.
More inclusive thoughts will lead to a safer environment for both genders, which will ultimately lead us towards a developed nation.
Sir its an earnest request to put this video in hindi language as well the coverage will be larger in this way :(

What a Nobel Man 🙌
Namaste Sir !
Thankyou!!
