    I have been rumming for years I have never heard of these rules. I just played rum with someone who plays 10 cards foe each player but the non dealer gets 11 cards instead of flipping 1 over

    Has anyone ever heard of New York rummy? If I can remember we would pick a card and that was how many cards we would start with.
    We would also put place our melds on the table and the other person could take their cards if they could play off it, I think, it's been 20 years.

      A Google search for New York Rummy brings up a contract game called 12 Step Rummy. I don’t think it is what you are describing. Maybe with more details I can figure it out. I like the draw for hand size rule. That sounds interesting!

    So basically the same as gin rummy, but no knocking, correct?

  • @keithparker1346

    Isnt there a rule that if the non dealer passes the first time and the dealer selects the hidden top card of the draw pile they cannot just simply discard it and must keep that card and discard some other?

    • @riffleshuffleandroll
      @riffleshuffleandroll  Год назад

      No. The dealer may pick up the top card from the draw pile and discard it. =^)

    Can an Ace be used with a king and queen to make a run?

    • @riffleshuffleandroll
      @riffleshuffleandroll  Год назад +1

      Typically, you play that the ace is low, so Ace 2 3 is a legal run. However, some people enjoy the game more with aces being playable high AND low. It’s really up to you =^)

    Player knocks, each player has 1 deadwood card. The non knocking player can match his deadwood card to one of the knockers meld. That leaves the knocker with 1 deadwood card and the non knocker with no deadwood cards. How is that scored?

    • @riffleshuffleandroll
      @riffleshuffleandroll  2 года назад

      Great question! In this case, the knocker has been undercut. The non-knocker earns 20 points (or 25 depending on how you prefer to score it)plus their opponent’s deadwood points.

    Do runs have to be the same suit?

  • @robertclark4929

    What about KNOCKING? Other videos on gin are very confusing.

    • @riffleshuffleandroll
      @riffleshuffleandroll  7 месяцев назад +1

      Any card that is in your hand and not part of a meld is called deadwood. Once you have 10 points or fewer in deadwood, you may knock at the end of your turn to end the round. You can actually knock on the table or you can just put your hand of cards face up on the table.

    Can you discard what you just drew?

    • @riffleshuffleandroll
      @riffleshuffleandroll  2 года назад +2

      You are not allowed to pick up a card from the discard pile and discard it again. If you draw from the draw pile, you may discard what you draw.

    • @jeffk1722
      @jeffk1722 2 года назад +1

      @@riffleshuffleandroll Yeah ok, so drawing from the draw pile and discarding it is a "pass" and I assume that's not allowed. Gotcha. But if you take an unknown card from the draw pile, it can be discarded :) got it

      @@riffleshuffleandroll we play 10 cards to 2 players ; 8 to 3 players , 7 for 4 or more , additional deck added for 6 players or more.
      Melds we call straights and we use at least 4 cards to make one. 3’s of kind are just that , we play off one another’s played straights and threes of a kind as well and we allow for picking up every card in the discard pile if so desired as long as that card from the very back where picked up from is immediately played as a straight or 3 of kind. Or let’s say if you desire the 4th card back from the last discard you can pick those 4 up on your turn as long as that 4th card back is immediately put in a suit and played. You go out by being the one who discards the last non playing card in your hand. If you get caught with any cards in your hand you count those and loose those points from the played cards in front of you. Or if you get caught with more points in your hand than are in front you that puts you in a negative balance. Cards are normal points face value of numbers, 10 for k, q, j, 1 for A . Playing to 500 or a 1000 points first one there wins.
      It creates opportunities to build your playing hands up and get more points and or even catch the opponent(s) with full hands that they count fully against them.
      It’s fun!

      Oh, this is 500 Rummy. A classic! I like how you deal a different number of cards depending on the player count. I’ve always played with 7 cards in hand regardless of how many players are in the game. I will have to try this!
