The Gentle Barn is a non profit animal sanctuary with locations in Los Angeles, CA, Nashville, TN, and St. Louis, MO. We rescue neglected and traumatized animals from all circumstances, we rehabilitate them, and when they're ready we partner with them to heal people with the same stories of trauma. We rescue cows, horses, pigs, sheep, goats, chickens, turkeys, peacocks, emus, llamas, donkeys, and more. Our mission is to show people the love and magic of animals by sharing their stories and how living a gentle life can help heal animals, humans, and the world.

Thank you for being sensitive to the feelings of mother cow and reuniting her with her baby. God will always bless you for your kindness. ❤️
Cows need friends. They are herd animals.
"Stole the milk", tells me everything I need to know about this channel.
That's what I thought when I heard that phrase as well. Then after seeing the entire video, and assuming it is true, I realize that was probably an accurate assessment of how they treat their cows. They even lied about her having a baby (allegedly).
@@erinnelson434true but that "baby" looks old enough to be on his own. The mother cow was probably crying out for any other cows. They're not meant to be alone. Also she looked like she needed to be milked.
I love how everyone is so touched by this, while at the same time being completely clueless to cows and their behaviour. Most of the time they don’t give AF about their calves. If farms depended on cows to feed the calves half of them would die…It’s far more likely both of them were part of a large herd and were just calling out for anyone. Literally any other cow. Stole their milk….Lol there’s so much wrong with this video one struggles with where to start.
@garyallen8824 Its a sad sad state we find ourselves in isnt it?
@@ftdadtrucker5672 Right? I mean just a few years ago my wife had a roommate in college while we were dating who didnt even know milk came from cows. She literally said, " I thought milk came from the store." 🤦♂️😬.
Animals have feelings just like humans. The sooner we realize this, the better it is for the world! Thank you for the rescue of "Maybelle" and return her baby back to her in the sanctuary! God bless you, fine people! ❤🎉
She was used to being constantly surrounded by other cows, she was lonely in general. It didn't matter what cow you brought to her, it would have made her happy
They have other cows at the sanctuary. She potentially had to be temporarily in a solo pen because she was new.
But also, the bond between a mother and child is scientifically based. Biology encourages that bond so mothers will have the urge to look after their children. Yeah, she could have been lonely in general. But mother cows do get distressed when separated from their babies.
@@ea5145 yes but it’s a dairy cow they have little to no care or maternal instincts for their babies because they usually just walk off from their calf’s after giving birth or just ignore it
@@legosantaclaus888 it’s editied and fake propaganda lol, also this one is “crying” because it’s udders are tight from not being milked. The other cow in the video is too old, it doesn’t give a shit stop spouting fantasies 😂
Cows are pregnant for 9 months and suffer so much when their babies are stolen from them!
@@RichPortQueen their not exactly stolen ur wording it to sound bad both the mother and calf don’t suffer the mother lives in paradise and gets great food and bedding and socialisation and the calf gets calf start which u probably don’t know what it is because ur commenting on something u have no experience in the calf’s get warmth and shelter and then are sold to other farmers to live till it’s processed but lives a great life in the meantime getting grass fed or great food like hay or silage and mixes or corn and other stuff
I grew up on a cattle farm. Cows will absolutely search and call for their babies for days on end if they are separated. My father transported a cow to a pasture miles from home but accidentally took the wrong calf with her. He initially couldn’t register why the cow was so distressed until she got away from us and ran home. She found her baby.
And how do you feel about the video, Joan?
It's a cruel industry
It's horrible.
@@damianovargas I’m not sure I understand the question.
so sad
I've been raised around cows, they do not care for their babies. In fact, they will leave them alone for hours and often leave them behind when being chased. At that age that calf was old enough to follow his mom but not need her, animals are not the same as humans. They DO separate from their mothers, even if it's just to join the herd.
She was just lonely, and her looks like she needs to be milked, otherwise, her udders could get infected and hurt her even worse.
How lost can someone be
Yes! Every species is diffrent.
I grew up on a cattle farm and 100% agree. We had calves killed by wild dogs and the mothers didn't give two shits they just wanted out of the paddock because they knew it wasn't safe. What's even worse about this video is they probably don't realise once the calf if a adult (if it's male) they'll probably end up mating that's if she doesn't die of infection from not being milked
but the *VEGANS* said it so you *CANNOT* dispute it!!!1!111!!1 🥴🥴🥴
my old landlord used to have a big ole herd of cows (in which he would leave the babies with the moms), and sometimes the moms would stomp the babies or kick them in the heads for being annoying. sometimes "being annoying" meant "trying to nurse."
@@toomucheverythingatonce4859 so that means they have no right to not be abused and used👍👍😍😍👍👍😍😍

Agreed.
Exactly! So many dairy-ignorant suckers cooing "Oh isn't that so heartwarming." smh
I go to a local dairy and I asked them about why I see the babies without moms out front and they said it’s cause the dairy cows are terrible mothers who reject their babies and often hurt them. Not sure if that’s a cover story to make people feel better but that was their reasoning.
Thank you for reuniting the mother and her child. Too bad people can't do that and be honest and true and loving like animals. ❤

This cow was not looking for other cows. She was looking and calling her baby.
I grew up in the country and in farms.
When a cow is separated from its mom, they will not stop calling for their babies.
They can be among 100 other cows horses and donkeys, but they will look for their baby nonstop.
Animals are truly amazing, and they deserve respect.
That baby is weaned. Most animals don't raise their child past the weaning stage.
Yeah they do stop yelling after a couple days or so. When I lived on a cattle farm for 15 yrs I could always tell when they were seperating the babies from mamas. They keep some calves for fattening and sell the rest. I guess they stop when they stop hearing their babies.
if you 100% grew up in farms etc. then you should know full well that calf is weaned and she is simply looking for her friends.
Not always. There's a farmer I watch that has a breed of cows where they literally do not care about their babies right after they're born. He said it depends on the breed aince some do, but most don't care.
OMG! How wonderful.
She was lonely because cows are herd animals. There's a very cute bond between the two though, and they have adorable names!
They have adorable names? Lmao

Cows are social animals, they need friends, she was crying, because she was alone.

So are a lot of other animal's, the heifers do "cry" for their offspring. Like so many other species do. Mankind did this to these creatures. Heifers would normally stay with their offspring & sometimes will even form a herd with them.
It wasn't that she missed her baby it was that her bag or udder was too tight and causing her pain. Cows are also herd animals and she was probably lonely so any cow would work. Depending on how old the calf was it could help relieve the pressure on her bag and give her a friend.
I think she wanted her baby..
i think both the video is proof
Your statement is correct. The calf is old enough to be weaned and rejected by it's mother. People who know nothing about animals always try and give them human emotions instead of understanding the real problem at hand

Yes ,that was a good ending by reuniting them.
She doesn’t even remember that that’s her baby most likely and was excited to have another cow
That calf is way to old to still be with its mother. They didn’t lie about having a dependent calf because there was not one. The cow was probably just looking for other cows because they are herd animals
Kinda inhumane if you are keeping her by herself :(
Another story from the twilight zone don’t believe everything you hear or see
yup
Yes, that's beautiful they found another cow for Mabel.
That's hilarious. The Twilight zone. The main thing is Mabel got another cow to spend time with.
just like horses, pigs, whales and many other animals, if they are "allowed" to by humans or are wild, most animals live in families the babies sticking to the moms as long as they can, even if the babies have offspring themselves, they often still display a more childlike character, when around their mom.
i have seen documented wild horses where the senior mom was with multiple of her babies of different ages, some of the babies seniors as well.
just like us humans cows also have close bonds with each other (unless they dislike each other, which also happens lol), so some cows are best friends, some are enemies, but moms will always go above and beyond to keep their babies safe, even if they're all grown up. :)

A wonderful gesture. You figured out why she was distressed and reunited them. Things like this renew my faith in humanity.
"took away her baby and stole her milk"
I can already see where this is going 🤣
Anything can sound bad if you word it to be bad
Right? And yet here's one of her calves that's clearly been raised with her and is familiar with her.
Dairy cows produce more milk than their calves need, and longer. It gets to the point the young cow nursing can cause damage and infection to their mother. There is a number of reasons domestic animals that are cared for properly live many times longer than wild counterparts... this is one of them.
@@danielled8665 "We engineered cows to produce more milk than is healthy for themselves and now we blame nature for it"
@solarprogeny they do better and live longer than wild counterparts would. They have more successful children and have injuries and infections cared for and cured. They are kept safe from predators and when they are killed, it is quick and without pain.
@@danielled8665yes finally someone who knows and from what I’ve heard from others I worked with for a little bit the milk isn’t that good for them either because of how we’ve bred them it’s to much butterfat or creamy or something like that
Thank you so much for caring enough to reunite this lonely mother and child🥰
Oh, I'm so glad you were able to find her baby and seeing them together again fills my heart with joy. Thank you for giving her back her son.
We had a cow that was used to having a sheep as her baby. It was so sweet to see them together.
Thank you soooo much for your loving care❤😂😊❤
as someone who’s family grew up on a commercial dairy farm i can confirm that the mother cows are extremely protective of their babies.
around the time of the full moon is when the babies are born (at least for ours), because the cows would be inseminated at the same time to make this process more predictable. when they give birth you have to immediately take the baby away from the mom to ‘lessen the attachment’. that bond never fully goes away, even when this is done.
to separate them, you would have two separate barns on opposite sides of the field, one for the newborns and the other for the mothers. but in most cases it would be two different rooms of the same barn bc the majority of dairy farms are factory farms and don’t have fields for grazing.
all day and all night you can hear the mothers and the babies crying for days when this separation occurs. they can get violent and scared, and some mothers get so upset they pass out from the exhaustion of crying and screaming for their baby. its heartbreaking.
even though animals don’t communicate the same way we do, they still have emotions and feel grief and pain just as we do
It's so angering to see these meatheads talk out of their rears.
That's why it is recommended to separate them immediately and making sure they cannot hear each other or as some of us, dairy farmers, do is to just milk the cows and grow the calf along with his mother. That way you sell the milk and then you have yourself a weaned calf, when the time arrives, to raise for future cows.
Sounds like dairy farmers are horrible people.
I don't get the point of this comment being so long.
Jesus I wish could be vegan. Deplorable shit. If they were all golden retrievers I'm sure people would suddenly think it's cruel torture
What we put animals through is horrific. All the milk she's given. All the heartbreak of losing her babies. 💔 I'm glad she got to keep just that one. Makes it so much more peaceful for her... thank you for loving her and caring about her heart
Tears in my eyes . God bless you😊😊😊

So glad you were able to save them both and be together. ❤️ Thank you for being so sensitive to their feelings, figuring it out, and reuniting them. She has had to give her life of babies up and that good milk. I feel really sad about that. 😢 Glad for a great ending.
Don't. These people don't know anything and did one of those "orphans at Christmas" commercials but for cattle
If they were being sensitive to their feelings they wouldn't be neglecting cattle by keeping them in solitary confinement. They're herd animals, they need a herd.
Thank you for reuniting these lovely cows. The farming industry is so cruel 😢😢
She was probably uncomfortable because she was still lactating and not having her milk "stolen" to give her relief.
Well they wouldn’t have known that since they were lied to about her recently giving birth now would they?
Well, which is it? Is she still capable of nursing or not? The issue of how old the calf was seems mute. They were separated even though they intended to part with her. She had been their only cow who was allowed to be with her calf as he grew. Since people have stated that cows need the company of a herd, It makes sense that she would miss his presence terribly. This whole issue of whether or not she was still nursing seems irrelevant to their attachment. Animals (horses, dogs, cows etc) have emotions. Denying it doesn't change it. Sorry.
And she was all by herself alone in a strange environment. I'm sure that had absolutely nothing to do with it. Evidently the op hasn't seen the dozens of video footage of the dairy cows that stand their chewing cud while the farmer comes in and takes the baby right under her nose
Not a single moo...
Cows most often don't care for their calf's, but they do need a companion. If you're going to retire one cow find them another to pair so they aren't lonely.
Well i have a entire cow family and they do care about their calves.
That's not true, a lot of cows cry for days after their baby is taken away. Sure, some don't or are used to it and know that they can't get their baby back anyways.
@@ihavenoidea5845 Yeah, learned helplessness is very real. If there’s nothing they can do to escape bad circumstances, animals shut down or become aggressive. This applies to humans too.
@@ihavenoidea5845 They "cry" for days because they have one thing in the world that is paramount, having offspring and raising them to maturity, and you just took it away and they are trying to find it. They are making noise so that the calf can hear them. They think the calf got lost and can't find them. It's what every animal, every living being on earth, has ingrained into their DNA.
Their entire life, just like the entire life of every female on earth except apparently now human females, is to procreate and reproduce and pass on their genetics in the next generation. When you interrupt that process the female will do everything she can to find that offspring, to save it, so that it can pass on those genetics successfully.
@@earlschandelmeier751 Yes I know. That is cruel. It's so deeply ingrained in them so they don't want to loose their baby. It makes them stressed out, plus they have a bond with their babies.

Also “””her baby””” that second cow looks the same size as her, it’s clearly grown and she just wanted SOME other cow, they aren’t meant to be alone.
Absolutely. I know NOTHING about dairy farms, but as far as I can guess, replacing a cow every 3 years because they get so stressed from missing babies they literally die of stress, is more expensive than just letting one baby take an udder and getting those machines to milk the other three
fr
I agree but a cow growth in one year and it was a little smaller than the big mama.
Dairy cows have been bred to produce way more milk than the calf can even drink. If you don’t milk them they will be in a lot of pain and risk getting udder infections.
That’s sad isn’t it?
Maybelle was crying to be milked....cattle are also very social animals. Although Miles was already weaned, most likely he would not nurse Maybelle, she still needed to be milked or will painfully dry up. She missed Miles...I do hope Miles is a steer.
She didn't miss Miles, she missed other cows in general. Watch the video again. Notice how there isn't a single other cow on this so called cow sanctuary? Like she's being kept in solitary confinement on purpose? An extremely social herd animal being kept all alone on purpose? Kinda sounds like animal abuse don't it?

Im crying. Thankyou so much for cherishing these cows. Thankyou for acknowledging the pain the momma was in and loving her enough to help
Its all lies
I’ve actually worked at a dairy farm. Lemme give you the “behind the scenes” of what happens with the cows.
*Milk n’ stuff*
So, the cows are impregnated to produce milk but calves are usually left with their mother for a week before the baby is moved to a different pen to be with its cousins while the mothers recover. The calves are fed with their mothers milk and there was a whole separate barrel that we used for calf feeding. After moms recover they are moved back to their pens.
*Retired cows*
The sad truth is that most of the “retired” cows were sent off to auction. Some were sent to do shows but others just didn’t cut it. I am really mad about that.
Peace out and ur welcome

They said the calf was about 4 months so it could be suckling for another 4 months. That is in natural circumstances
Calves become adults at 12 months, it’s a calf
@@elizabethsellors9046 it's not a young calf as said
That’s awesome. Thank you guys for what y’all do. Don’t listen to all the negative comments here.
A mothers love is greater then anything.
Must not be any AfterLife,as my dear Mother;
has never appeared,spoken.
Not my mother's!
But not the mothers that abort huh
For God so loved the world that He gave His One and Only Son that if you believe in Him, you will not perish but have eternal life

Even with animals!
Your so great to help her. She finally got one of her babies
Yes one
Thank you 🙏❤️ it’s just incredible how much animals care for each other. We do so many things wrong to them
All animals are at human beings mercy, it's not right and it's very, very sad. 😥
Your both so correct. Poor creatures are truly at our mercy. And we do so much wrong to them.
@@IMjustAGirlInTheWorld1983 - We dont deserve animals. Each one is a gift and should be treated as such.
Beautiful story ♥️and thank you allspice much for bringing the precious angels back together 🥰👌🏾🙏🏽♥️
Yes, we do so much to each other an don't think about it in this way .. kindness is free daily give til your heart is full!
I love this channel so much 😭 Thank you for running this channel from my deepest heart soul
Thank you for reuniting these two souls
The baby was plenty old enough to be on their own.
@@MandM_ARHAso can I kidnap a person if he's old enough to be on their own 😂
@@yumihara14 we aren’t animals,
@@MandM_ARHA Humans are animals...
@@lolasonne1772 from my view point, no, no we aren’t. I’m a Christian, and in Christianity the Bible says that people where made in God’s perfect image. Animals where not made that way. Also our minds are different, cows are plenty different from people. A mother can only nurse so long, and a baby needs more than just milk. It needs to be weened so that it can graze and domestic cows tend to not be the best at that especially whenever that baby gets to maturity ( it being a bull and all )
As soon as she said “stole her milk” I came straight to the comments.
probably a real one for the vegan teacher
Donated
Probably a vegan activist channel that thinks milking a cow is a horrible crime punishable via death penalty 💀💀💀
Bro same- 💀
That's so awesome 👍👍
Just love this I hope more people understand that animals do have feelings, and they don’t like to be separated from their babies❤
The change in her call made me tear up from my heart. 😊
Hearin that they were seperated is heartbreakin . I'm so glad they're were reunited , and are happily together ❤
Now I’m not cow farmer but I’m pretty sure she was just calling out for other cows because she was lonely. I’d assume if you have a sanctuary for cows there’s other cows. Most of the time once the calves are old enough the mother won’t care for them as she would when they’re babies. She’s so happy to see him because she needs to be surrounded by other cows.
I have seen cows grow on my own, sometimes mother just holds into their baby longer then they normally should, this mother is just one of em, like they also have feelings too
There are lots of other cows at the sanctuary they just aren’t in the shot
Raised on a farm. That's the sound of a mama looking for her baby!
they literally found the calf
Crazy how you don’t know wtf you’re talking about and you thought you had the right to open your mouth
This is a beautiful story! I am so glad they were able to reunite them 😢crying happy tears!
Poor thing. Glad she had a happy ending.
Ya ‘stole the milk’ and ‘took her baby away’ are other words for ‘milking the cow so her utters don’t dry or get infected’ and weaning the calf bc it needs to start eating grass’. Oof
It’s so easy to justify the cycle of exploitation isn’t it 😅
@@Machine1607it is it really is, but this ain’t it. Dairy cows a made to produce more milk than the calf needs and if that milk isn’t used she will get sick.
