The annoying thing with BF2 as I've come to appreciate even more now that I've started modding it myself is the AI. There is no way besides the most absolutely hacky methods to make them smarter. And even then you'll only be able to squeeze out like half an IQ point. (inb4 "but its a 2005 game") The wide open maps BD showcases like this one are aight, but when you try to have more nuanced combat situations, like say, urban combat, the illusion falls apart fast. In what world would infantry not garrison buildings and shoot RPGs onto the tops of tanks where the armor is weakest, instead opting to zerg rush through the streets like angry mobs in CnC generals ("rush" is a relative term here since they DONT freaking sprint!). It's goddamn maddening once you start noticing it. I curse DICE every day for hardcoding everything. Bots can't even climb ladders for fucks sake.
And the CTDs man. Ive been modding my bf2 into oblivion and i have to calculate memory footprint for the stuff i plan to add otherwise thered be a memleak.
@@cosmicegg1283 Fucking tell me about it. You could end up crashing and you won't even know why. Doesn't help that the debugger is a different version from the regular exe so what crashes a normal game wont necessarily crash a game you run from the debugger.
Yeah it was almost impossible to make the AI smarter just had to accept winning every game unless you throw. Lol I grew playing these mods in like 2015-2020 lol used to always run them still have every game in the franchise installed on my machine lol I need to go back and play.
@@bryce.1179 Strategically what you can do is lay down some waypoints to make them take different routes and invisible Control Points to make them hold at key positions (i.e. at a bridgehead to cover the advance of the rest of the force rather than just pouring through the bridge all at once). This makes AI moves on the chessboard make a bit more sense and thus a little bit more challenging. The problem with the control points thing is how easily it can make your map crash if you fuck up one small thing and they're not always guaranteed to follow waypoints. Plus the navmesh is a bitch to work with. More complex tactical decision making like taking cover and regrouping are basically just out of the question, thanks to DICE hardcoding every damn thing.
Agreed, that's why I stopped playing BF2 since you can't modify some things that are hardcoded. If those things aren't hardcoded, the game will be more fun because It can be modified easily. Even I have trouble modifying squad size
Honestly, all I want from a BF game is MW 2019 styled weapon customization. I couldn’t care less about the tanks or vehicles but I really want a good weapon customization system with plenty of things to unlock. I miss spending hours upon hours unlocking attachments in BF4.

I'm really interested in seeing what O:HD can do in terms of large scale co-op game types? Insurgency Sandstorm had something so very close but it just fell short.
I play bf2 since 2005 and it lives through the community until today. I just miss the singleplayer with the AIs where you can test your mods. It is the root and inspiration where ideas came from like deployable items, airdrop vehicles/supplies, etc. for other games like its successors to say as "new features". The best game for me. I will wait for OHD because of this. 🔥
Project R is a hella good game. I dont care that the "graphics" are olderish but it gives you that real Battlefield vibe and experience.. 2042 doesnt give me that feel 5 also 1 were probably the best newer Battlefield titles BF3 will always have a special place in my heart, playing that when I was younger felt like being in a simulator we rented hardcore servers had rpish events we'd do

I've spent so much time playing BF2 and tinkering with it (seriously the modding in this game is amazingly simple) that I instantly knew what I was looking at, even though there are some significant UI changes.
Battlefield 2 had a lot of realistic type elements while the later battlefields became a more call of duty type thing with bigger maps . Limited sprint time .. when you change your magazine you lose the remaining ammo in it .. these were some nice mechanics that'd force you think and move more tactically .
hi bluedrake i have a few questions conserning OHD 1: after playing ravenfield thanks to you i liked the squad features, which leads to my first question, when the multiplayer maps are created will you be able to play in singleplayer (player vs bots) 2: if yes then will we have the squads feature from raven field 3: and lastly will there be default veichles thanks
This is pretty cool, keeping battlefield 2 alive with modern settings in game. I couldn’t get into battlefield games after hardline it’s been very sad from BF1,BF5, and the horrible battlefield 2042 I am glad project reality is still popin up and running I thought they were making a new PR game with battlefield 3 engine.
BF1 is actually a really good game and I enjoyed it. Disappointing if you didn't but the attention to detail was still wonderful. I struggled past 100 hours bc of lack of content tbh.
It's refreshing to hear "no skins, no mods, no dlc".... Battlefields failure was trying to copy tournament type games like Call of Duty and PUBG. I think it's a totally waste of time trying to gain "skins" for my character rather than EARN better weapons and attachments. It's more fun to earn attachments and guns by completing task such as reviving teammates and holding objectives. ACTUAL rewards that give you a slight edge over your competition. Rewards for people that actually participate and help teammates give more incentive for tactical gameplay rather than everyone having the same guns but with different pretty paint🙄
Camos in bf3-4-1 and V were great..but in 2042 they ruined everything. Stupid looking and out of context soldiers, uninspired skins , ridicolous phrases... I really hope that the next Battlefield will come back to that serious and dark vibe...
How would you say this compares to Heat of Battle? Similar but the animations and some of the weapons look different. Seems like it might play a bit different too.
Dame ( at least for me as a sworn fan to BF 2 it will remain in my heart forever ) this project is solid but need the extras from W.W.3 the game from F.51 ( at least the strikes if not the customizations ) the old bf is the foundation in the genre but not enough ...
BC2 fanatic here. I never understood the big map fixation, BC2 vanilla (rush mode) had medium to large maps (Oasis and Harvest day a favorite) and there wasn't one I wanted to skip in the rotation, they were all fun to play. I can't say the same thing for the BFs that came out later, on the contrary, often for me the least fun were the biggest ones.
BC2 was my and my best friend favorite. Put so many hrs in that game, fun and well designed maps for rush, nice weapons, no prone, hardcore mode. Those were good times but then we finally get Portal, graphically enhanced maps but shitty BF2042 gameplay
BC2 was technically inferior and more arcade yet the gameplay was the most fun (I understand trying to make the game graphically realistic, but if I want a simulator I take Arma). It was the most fun perhaps for the gadgets and vehicles, the destruction, perhaps also for the simplicity, certainly for all the rush maps that in my opinion remain the best, even the dead zones were studied, I also played for thousands of hours alone and with friends (1900+ on X360 and hundreds on PS3) and I don't think I've discovered all the secret passages.

Squad is literally just a mod from either battle feild 3 or 4 that just got so big it grew into its own stand alone game. Check it out if you haven't heard of it.
yeah, the only thing i'd add would be Squad AI, where AI Squads act together and complete different objectives, but i think it is impossible in BF2's Code

Heat of battle relies on the mod called damocles which means damocles has built in mods that are ported to damocles like the gun modification mod
