The best variants are those where everyone gets an identical "Zoch" piece as their base. Judging from the video, the rules of this edition might not even include those variants, and the game also appears to have fewer pieces than it used to have years ago.
I don't feel like you did anything wrong by pointing out Junk Art, Tom. It's a competitive market for games and these things don't exist in a vacuum. If there are other potentially better games out there to compare them to, then it's an imperative for you, as a reviewer, to point out that fact and let the buyer be the judge. These things don't come cheap, after all.
I think Tom didn`t understood the mechanic or the social part in Bandu or Bausack very well. At least he have explained it very badly Typically is more mean playstyle, where you forcing your opponents to take some pieces. The diamonds are generally used for ransoming or to provoke using a special and mean pieces. Sometimes it is safer to took a fitting piece to provide a solid basis for further pieces. Maybe some opponents want prevent this. Than is bidding also an interesting methode. Tom coud have examine this issues a lot better. Bandu is a great party game and the ransoming mechanic makes it special.
Indeed Junk Art seems "inspired" by Bandu aka Bausack. Tom thinks that Junk Art is a much better game. I completely disagree, on practically all counts. In my opinion, the pieces of Bausack are way superior (prettier, chunkier, funnier, better quality), and so is - first and foremost - the game-play, especially when you manage to dig up (on BGG?) the numerous variations that used to be in the rules of the original game, but have inexplicably disappeared from recent editions.
conillet I quite agree, I've still got my copy from years and years ago (in a very dirty bag) and I think the pieces are far superior. And there are loads of carefully designed pieces that work well together, as well as some that look like they should but are just there to catch you out. 😄
golden apple moment
Bandu has been a classic game for our family. Lots of fun and great for a holiday party game.
Thanks, I was wondering about the difference between the two now that Junk Art came out, they looked nearly identical at a glance.

Did he say a reprint of... "ball sack"??
Bausack
Mentat1231 that's what I heard at first too ha
Daniel Engel
Thank you! I was thinking it was just a very unfortunate name for a game from 3 decades ago.
It means "Building Bag" or "Builders Bag" in German. Same root as Bauhaus.
gracias Tom

Sad that Junk Art isn't available for a reasonable price at the moment...
