My daughter got this for me as a Christmas present because I love Bob Ross - ended up just loving the game - kind of ticket to ride but the painting changes so no one hoards colors - love it
Played this for the first time at a local board game meetup and everyone had a great time. We played a 4 player game and it was a pretty tight finish for everybody. The player we thought had it in the bag ended up being leap frogged and lost by 1 point, the others were only about 5 points behind. All throughout the game we were discussing what we knew about Bob Ross, and we made it mandatory to read the quotes on the chill cards.
I have so many fond memories from his painting videos. Last year they started posting his videos (one each day) on "his" YT channel. I watched all of them. So I really consider getting this game, just for nostalgia reasons.
My friends and I love this game! We have tried rotating the starting players to see if it made a difference, but the game is mostly luck of the draw and luck of the roll. If you roll a lot of extra cards or extra turns or paint for free, you will have an advantage.
This game looks SO cool, but a Target exclusive? I checked, it would cost $70 for me to get it in Canada. GULP. My "chill" level has decreased significantly.
Good review, I enjoyed this as well. I do wonder if there's an advantage to the first player, however, and the technique cards can give you a ton of points for what they're worth.
My cousin's an artist, and she's just trilled there's a game about painting. It doesn't try to "simulate" it's theme like Guitar Hero did by having a guitar shaped controller.
Unless you mean "simulate" by having methods of giving the game input that are designed to be evocative of the crafts basic tools, then yeah, sure. Regardless of it's method, the theme was sure a lot more accessible in Guitar Hero. In Guitar Hero though, what you got *back* from the game was often a lot more rewarding as it was self selected. :)
Great review, I really like Bob Ross, it was through his shows that I learned to paint. That said, this game does not appeal to me in the least. The game play seems ok, but really the way they implemented the theme is a turn off. While I see where they got their inspiration of the speed element, doesn't jive with the idea that Bob was always proclaiming, you create your own world, no mistakes only happy accidents. As a hobby painter, I think a much better art themed game is Fresco.
A happy little game. Just put a happy little expansion right next to it. Because everyone needs a friend.
Comment perfection :)

Ordered today with Funko Pop Bob Ross figure. Happy little parcel on the way.

Nice review. Anyone else think Zee would look good with a Bob Ross Afro ©
Zee Garcia is a very attractive man. But I do wonder what he would look like with a full head of hair.
Really been enjoying this one. Great gateway set collection game and for only 25 dollars it's a no brainer if you liked The Joy of Painting.
Zee is too chill to start with. You heard it here first folks.

Excellent beard length, Zee.
I enjoyed this more than I should, I like this much better than say, Pastiche.

Just got it on amazon too for $20. I'm in canada.

Is here a solo play variant inclued?
Jane Biscott play with friends
I wonder if artists look at this game the same way that musicians see Guitar Hero.

@@explosionsandstuff7787 Oh, there are so many...Pastiche, Kanagawa, Fresco, Old Masters (Colors of Paris), ...
@@explosionsandstuff7787 Canvas..
Got this on sale for 11$. No regrets! :D
Bob Ross Forever / haha ... what a legend // I think I'd have to go for Fresco before I would go for this one.
I guess I'll never see it in the UK. Shame!
RowanTarot Why not? Bob Ross has big business in the UK. I'm sure you can find it there.
One can but hope. I believe I read on BGG since posting here that the publisher is looking to distribute in Europe. Fingers crossed!

You should check out Kanagawa.
Zee seems to be aging backwards
This is not real?!?!
CW it's very real.
Wait, so this is a PRETEND painting game?..... wow, what a waste...
Yes. And in Monopoly you don't really own property either. What a waste of a comment.
