Btw: There's a really good reason why range hoods are usually made from materials like metal and glass. They're not flammable. MDF and dry wall on the other hand are. There's lots of old grease in a range hood, so when you have a kitchen fire, it gets really hot really fast. Good luck to you. Stay safe.
Plus the glass and metal is easier to clean grease off of. It also looked to me like she completely covered the controls for the hood. I think what Becky did is beautiful just not practical.

Is drywall above a stove durable enough?? Becky, did you check the building code? I’m sure the vent is supposed to release heat? Is it a fire hazard now? Love the final result!!
The fire rating for regular half inch drywall is one half hour. 5/8inch would be an hour or more for x type. Drywall is actually pretty fire resistant. Besides the wall the range hood is up against and goes through to the outside is.. drywall lol
I'd love to know how that stove hood cover holds up. Can you actually scrub the grease and grime off of it? I personally think it would have been beautiful if you had extended the backsplash up the wall behind the stove hood. I'd also paint the inside of the cabinets with the glass doors black or a different accent color.
It all depends on the Quality of paint imo. If you use REALLY high Quality paint (and primer) you could really scrub this down with soap water without damaging anything.

What I need to know: how are you scrubbing the grease and food off the painted drywall range cover 😬. The look right now it great but I can’t imagine it lasting…
This is what I wanted to know! I had to call in our apartment handyman for permission to take our metal hood completely apart to clean it because the grease filters (that you have to change often) weren't working well anymore and it was dripping from buildup from where it was attacked to the cabinet. I can't imagine making a hollow hood around it and cleaning it especially without the upward spatter glass protection. And she made it from flammable materials too!
It's a spectacular alteration from the original. The lighter color makes the entire kitchen seem larger, more welcoming, and less big box store showroom. I particularly like the backsplash from the earlier video, but the color of your cabinets completes the journey the backsplash began. 'Grats on the achievement.
This was a fantastic journey. I was yelling “pick the black” for the cover over the range hood. P.S. you also might want to paint the paper towel holder on the wall to match the door plus.
Wow Becky! Amazing job. A steep learning curve, I'm sure. I think my fave part is the backsplash. 🤩 Enjoy your new space, and making a bunch of new memories in it.

Professional drywall finisher here! We call the "all-purpose drywall/joint compound" mud. Like, "hey, could you scoop me some more mud?" And for the corner bead, it's not really to protect corners? When drywall (aka sheetrock) is put up on an outward corner, like your new vent hood, the ends of the sheets create a little gap where they meet. The corner bead is put on to make the corner look smoother, and you would *never* forego corner bead. The part that's metal is because it's a material that won't be soaked with wet mud and sink/bubble into the gap as mentioned before. The paper flaps are specific to that type of bead so that you're able to apply mud on the sheetrock and then put on the corner bead. There's another type of corner bead that's just metal and you have to staple it onto the sheetrocked corner, it's much more difficult than the paper/metal type. And as a tip, if your mud is too thick to use, just mix it in with a little water to make it a "thinner" consistency and have it apply smoother. It's a lot easier on the wrists. And ten layers of mud?? Oh no no no. You really just need three layers, maybe four for touch-ups. But the vent hood looks great! You did a great job with the kitchen! :)

@@NitrosMom074 @Kimmie B the mechanics under the sink looks like the small tap is for a water filtration system similar to one I put in in a former home. You usually only need electricity if you're using an uv light for bacteria (used for water from wells). Either way there should have a GFCI on the line.
For the record, someone with your DIY expertise could have totally painted your cabinets yourself. I did my entire kitchen last summer and the most difficult part is the masking and prep work. Using a paint sprayer is super fun! But totally get the shoutout to support local business in your area. 😊 Definitely love the black hood!!!!
Not trying to be negative at all I swear, genuine question as I love the look of this, would the cooker still be fire safe with the wood and drywall added to the hood?
None of the mechanics of the vent hood have changed. It is just as safe now, as it was before she did anything. The vent pipe sucks all the air out of the house. None of that has changed. None of it. The original metal vent COVER is still there, and besides - that metal cover just a decorative COVER for the venting mechanics. It's the mechanics that do all the work, not the decorative cover. The metal vent cover is purely decorative, just the same as what she built - which is a decorative cover. All she did was put a 2nd decorative cover over the existing decorative metal cover. None of the venting mechanics have changed. It's nice that y'all are concerned, but really, you're making the whole venting process more complicated than it actually is. Bcuz none of the actual venting has changed. However - Cleaning up in between the 2 decorative covers might - maybe - possibly - be an issue at some point. Depending on how many greasy things they cook, and how often they wipe it down up there. So really that's the only issue. Just wiping it down is a tiny bit more cumbersome. And let's not forget that most all the grease gets sucked up into the metal screen which is still in place, at the beginning of the vent pipe, which was never removed, or changed. So the only greasy bits that will be on the wood she added (if any at all) will be tiny amounts of residual grease, and that won't be enough to start a fire. It's really not a worry. ❤
@@gardengatesopen except the materials she used are highly flammable. So if she were to cook something and flames raised, the fire would spread rapidly. The actual metal vent underneath is not flammable. If I were her I would have invested in a real metal hood
Designer tip: dont put your paint swatches on the surface you’re wanting to paint. The undertone of the surface you’re about to change will effect how the potential new paint will look. Great final result! Very much digging the black hood and that diy shelf and peg wall is a great touch!
I'm glad you chose the black color for the stove hood. The kitchen came out beautiful! I think you should market those shelves you made, everything you find out there is so big!
Huge difference! I really love the cupboards and everything but don't love the shape of the hood with the cupboards and crown molding. Like another commenter said, it also seems like a fire hazard to have that there. I'd take it out and replace with metal like the dishwasher, just something more fitting.
It looks so good! I think black was the right choice. If it were my kitchen, I think I’d paint the insides of the open cabinets white. The natural wood doesn’t look bad, but IMO it doesn’t look right? Idk lol.

I just started watching your videos yesterday and I'm a huge fan already! Becky, your personality is so human idk how else to describe it lol genuine? It's not the over the top super excited RUclipsr personality like they took all my adderall lol it's rather funny/quirky (in a good way) and exciting, but calming enough for my neurodivergent brain to enjoy! Also, I'm moving into a new place soon and am loving these ideas! big hugs!
Didn't you cover up the hood's controls when you put the drywall up?
I literally came to the comments to see if anyone else had said something about this! How's she gonna turn the hood on??
It seems that there is a gap between the dry wall and the hood's controls that she can access, look at 17:12
@@stargzr thank you I see the gap now! The hood and the whole kitchen came out beautiful but I'd rather not cover the controls and have to feel around the gap for the right one. Plus the clock is on the hood I know there are phone and actual clocks but still
@@catchemkatie lol I was surprised nobody else said it
@@pollypuffington2243 she said they’re in the inside
The kitchen turned out amazing! So glad you did black for the range hood, that works super well
Wow i love your first name!🤪
@@kirstinedybergalbrektsen4802 Hahah, love yours too!😄
I can't believe how well this turned out. Stunning!
Great job Becky!
Wow, one of the coolest kitchens I’ve seen in awhile. Nice colors that aren’t white and the backsplash is so organic.
When you did the stone backsplash on E1 I was like, hmmm where is she going with this. Now seeing it all together 😍 In love!
Absolutely indescribably incredible as always!!!! The Sorry Girls are the actual Greatest Of All Time!!! 🐐🐐🐐🐐
This is honestly epic. I'm always so inspired and motivated to make even small changes to my house whenever I see you guys making something so beautiful from literally just a couple of pieces of scrap wood 🤯
Black... Brings out the beauty of the cabinets!!
Looks amazing! That dark red wood color was killing everything, now looks perfect.
You made absolutely the right choice painting that extractor hood black! Gorgeous kitchen
I couldn’t imagine having to tape all of that off😩
Rightt, painting is quick...is the prework and tapeing that takes time ... it is my least favorite work to do while DIY.
lol i thought the same! im even too lazy to do around plug sockets let alone the amount he needed to do!
Taping is literally the worst part of painting, i spent 8 hours taping a tiny nursery and the painting only took 2 hours.
I would have left them
Gorgeous wood. Just get a better cleaner to deal with the million greasy fingerprints
@@helenamirian908 I too like that beautiful wood color, am hoping to find the name of the finish so I can change my dull dark walnut table to a brighter color.
OMG I have the same color kitchen cabinets and so want to change it, thank you so much to show me a great option to consider! Now I can try to get me kitchen makeover! Love you gals, go go The Sorry Girls! ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
Love how your kitchen brightened up with that makeover you did.
Oh! Now, I've thought + thought, yet didn't ever think about a stone pebble backsplash.
Omg, I get the best ideas from The Sorry Girls!! ♥
I LOVE the shelves - displaying beautiful cookbook covers makes so much sense. Stunning 😍
Wow, that is just STUNNING!!! I'm so glad you went with the black. Your cabinets under the window were such a great idea too. So much storage space. The extra lighting was brilliant and you did it with out hard wiring. Girl, It looks so beautiful. Well done again.
Before and afters are my favorite things to watch. Good job.
Am I the only one who LOVES the reddish wood cabinets before?
I was saying, "Go with the black, go with the black!" It really looks stunning; definitely a high end designer look.
The white cabinets and the stone backsplash are just perfection.
It looks so good! Great job. Idk Canada's requirements/codes, but I think that outlet under the sink needs to be changed to a GFCI outlet for safety.
Hopefully, the GFCI may be at the main panel. The plug is for a garburator. But that's a weird plug, I had on in the basement in my last home.
Yes you’re right, in Canada it has to be a GFCI outlet
@@traceyc130 I think the plug was for the “instant hot” heater that was connected to the spout she removed as well.
@@NitrosMom074 @Kimmie B the mechanics under the sink looks like the small tap is for a water filtration system similar to one I put in in a former home. You usually only need electricity if you're using an uv light for bacteria (used for water from wells). Either way there should have a GFCI on the line.
I am soooo happy you Chose the black! I knew you would I think it looks so much better than the creamy white would’ve been.
I would love to see how the kitchen flows with the living and dining room now!
That is my concern as well, especially since there is a vent on the side of the hood near the top. I don't know if it has the correct air flow 🤔
And this is why they are not professionals
However -
Cleaning up in between the 2 decorative covers
might -
maybe -
possibly -
be an issue at some point.
So the only greasy bits that will be on the wood she added
(if any at all) will be tiny amounts of residual grease, and that won't be enough to start a fire.
It's really not a worry. ❤
@@gardengatesopen except the materials she used are highly flammable. So if she were to cook something and flames raised, the fire would spread rapidly. The actual metal vent underneath is not flammable. If I were her I would have invested in a real metal hood
@@Yahsbsuq yes, that's a point to consider 👍
Your kitchen makeover came out absolutely beautiful. There is such beauty in simplicity.😊
I have been waiting for this and could legitimately see the difference in the whites on the little samples. Understand your struggle.
Just finished watching your final kitchen. You can be very proud of yourself! The stone reads kind of terrazzo now..remarkable.
Designer tip: dont put your paint swatches on the surface you’re wanting to paint. The undertone of the surface you’re about to change will effect how the potential new paint will look.
Great final result! Very much digging the black hood and that diy shelf and peg wall is a great touch!
So where do you put it?
Jaw drop😲 sooooo beautiful😍 it's crazy how a Space can become like new with just a few steps and reusing most of it🙌
Those shelves are definitely a DIY I’m doing in my new place!! In love 😍
What a stunning transformation! I love how the black hood compliments the dark floor. The shelving idea is genius.
It looks so good! I think black was the right choice. If it were my kitchen, I think I’d paint the insides of the open cabinets white. The natural wood doesn’t look bad, but IMO it doesn’t look right? Idk lol.
The best part of this was how much you were able to reuse yet still achieve a totally different look ! Bravo!
I looove the new color! However, I'd really consider caulking all the pieces on the ceiling to really finish it off 👌
It looks fantastic, Becky. I love the black choice on the range. Your kitchen now has a modern appeal. ❤❤❤❤👍👍👍👍⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
It's 4 AM here in Australia and I was about to sleep. You best believe my sleepiness went away after I saw this video 😂
Saaaame 5am in France and here I am
I love love LOVE the color you chose for the range hood!! Fabulous makeover! The kitchen looks so big now! ♥️
Thank you for sharing.

The kitchen turned out great! I love the cookbook shelf and I was so glad you picked black for the range hood!!!
Is it legal to fall in love with a kitchen😍literally chef's kiss😚
Everything looks amazing. Can’t help but think that having a lighter brighter kitchen will help you through the dreary winter months
Wow the vision you had for this was so dope.
This is the absolute best transformation I have seen on this channel so far! It looks like an entirely different space. Amazing!!
The finished kitchen looks soooo good! Obsessed with everything
This makeover was outstanding… What a HUGE diff painting the cabinets made. It is insane!!! LOVED the finished product; glad you went with the black lime wash. I just love how the darker colors look in limewash. And those bookshelves were an outstanding touch. This is exactly what I want to accomplish in my kitchen that needs a makeover asap.
