    If Frye doesn’t land a top OL recruit outside of OH this cycle he needs to go. Can’t keep missing on all these national kids when every other position is being recruited at a high level. You can’t be satisfied with landing guys that can potentially be good. You have to land guys that are for sure gonna be dudes. Our OL is the weakest link of the team and it’ll continue to be that way if we’re just relying on developing guys.

      I agree he needs to Lan a big time gut but oline in general is a developmental position. Not many true freshman go out there and start. It happens but not often.

      @@bowmanbrent419 Yeah I get that for sure, but I feel like you can't be reliant on developing these project-type guys. I get that it takes time for o-lineman to gain strength and develop the skills needed to compete at the college level, but only taking guys that are projects is somewhat of a gamble. You don't know for certain that they are gonna come in and develop to be the type of OL you need at a program like OSU. That's kind of what we've done for the past few years and its put us in the situation we are right now where we're struggling to put together a full unit.

    • @brex6095
      @brex6095 4 месяца назад +1

      @@bowmanbrent419 I’m also saying all this because I’ve been spoiled to be an OSU fan haha. We’re in an era of college football right now, though, that leaves little to no room for questionable positional depth. Especially with the extended season.

    As I recall, our Oline in the playoffs against Bama didn’t start manhandling Bama till the 4 quarter. That’s when Zek did some damage inside. But that was simply due to the fact Bama’s D line was worn down by that time. Also, Urban was rotating his D line pretty consistently.

      @@blankname6629 yeah, I don't dig the idea. If I'm a betting man, I think they are considering to profile Downs for a kind of Jim Thorpe buzz. Now, I can see a DB playing a little wide receiver, but running back? I have my doubts about that.

    Ohio State has one of the best safeties in college football in Downs and a defensive coordinator who revolves his defense around safeties. It is asinine to make Downs a running back. Guy has enough wear and tear on his body as a safety. This is why Ohio State loses to teams like Missouri and Michigan.

    • @jamesschmidlin1127
      @jamesschmidlin1127 4 месяца назад

      Not really. And it has nothing to do with losing to Mizu or scUM! 1. Being the person that initiates hits is much less wear and tear on the body than being hit. 2. They are not going to use him that much. Maybe add him here and there a few series. He’ll be lucky to get actual two carries a game. And he’ll be used only in a couple of the games like that, I’d say Oregon and scUM. The rest of the time like the playoffs will be just to give other teams something extra to worry about, which is always to tOSU’s advantage. The primary ball carriers will be the two main running backs with the other two getting reps as fill ins if the game is secured. Now, if they were using him consistently then you’d have a point. But every little wrinkle they can throw into the game makes it that much tougher for Defenders to actually defend. I played full game both sides of the ball. I always avoided injuries. Why? Because I was the one to hit first.

      Ted Ginn Jr did more than WR. He ran from the backfield and caught punts and kick off returns. An athlete is an athlete. It’s what they do. Different positions and different sports. Who can forget Refrigerator Perry of the Bears? A lineman taking hand offs? It’s what makes the sport exciting.

    Day and Knowles need Ohio State to win first, but they have to be telling the kid he needs to think long term. And running back in the NFL isn't it. For every Emmitt Smith, there is literally thousands that are 2, 3 and 4 and done.

    • @jamesschmidlin1127
      @jamesschmidlin1127 4 месяца назад

      It’s just a resume enhancer for end of season awards and give the NFL something to look at. He’s not turning into a full running back. Shot we have WR basically doing running back stuff is jet sweep.
