My favorite Voice Play is "Hoist the Colors". That video deserves an Grammy award. If PTX can get one for "Daft Punk" then Voice Play should have gotten one for "Hoist the Colors"
Nothing Else matters was heard by a producer who hired them to perform with Chicago in a couple concerts filmed to be released on streaming and Blu-ray. Look for the Chicago and Friends concert! I’ve subscribed to see what you discover of theirs next.
Oogie Boogie's song is a classic, but it's an older one at this point. VoicePlay have far surpassed what they've done here, although we're still not quite sure how they keep upping their game as they do. My usual challenge to reactors is to simply pick something that appeals, because VoicePlay offer a broad spectrum of choices from metal and rock (Nothing Else Matters- Metallica, Seven Nation Army- White Stripes) to Broadway (Wicked Medley, Phantom of the Opera) to pop (Good For U- Olivia Rodrigo, Butter- BTS), classical (In the Hall of the Mountain King- Edvard Grieg, from the Peer Gynt Suite) and Disney (Moana medley, Little Mermaid Medley, We Don't Talk About Bruno), video game music (The Halo Theme, The Dragonborn Comes- Skyrim, Still Alive- Portal) and so much more than that. Even more impressive than their broad range is the fact that this group is 100% independent, and everything you see and hear- from the arrangement, to the video (and that from concept to sourcing to lighting, filming, directing and editing) as well as the initial audio mix is done by the members of the group. What they bring you is entirely their creative vision for their project, and as an artist myself, I respect that so much about them. It allows them to take risks you don't hear from the other groups on the scene, and gives them a very distinct VoicePlay sound that always stands apart.
Geoff and his wife actually worked as dancing singers, I forget if they worked for Disney or some other character related theme park. Voice Play is an awesome character based group
I love how this is such a "gateway" video for Voiceplay...and welcome to the world of them! I also love how you appreciate Layne, their beatboxer, and human drum machine...though he can do other sounds too! He's really more of a human synthesizer.
I think I like his organic sounds best. The drips, the bubbles, the creaking door and the Sleigh Bells are just amazing. I really like that he doesn’t limit himself to instruments that are known to the rest of the world.😊
@@janetdw Or our Universe! LOL! I do wonder if he can do a harmonica, life Alan Rupp...but I suspect all vocal percussionists have their own special dignatire sounds unique to them. Like Layne with his inhale singing (I forget what it's called).
Valhalla Calling is next!! Followed by Nothing Else Matters, Hoist The Colours, Hellfire, Creep, Warriors, Seven Nation Army, Dragonborn Comes, Dream On, Halo Theme, 21 Pilots Mashup! ENJOY!!!
Next up could be either Hoist the Colours or Valhalla Calling Me. Then Nothing Else Matters. These guys are definitely my favorite Acapella group, even though Home Free is awesome. BTW, loved the reaction. Your ear for music is terrific.
Voice Play is my favorite group. Valhalla Calling, In The Air Tonight, Nothing Else Matters, Creep, Dream On, Hoist the Colors. Then for Geoff's solo songs: 16 Tons, Ain't no Sunshine, Big Bad John, Far over the Misty Mountains Cold, I see Fire, Jack's Lament. There are too many to list. Enjoy the rabbit hole.
The Moana medley is absolutely fantastic, as is the Little Mermaid one, their Disney catalog is outrageous. Voiceplay are amazing . You really can't go wrong with anything, but "Valhalla Calling" will always be my favorite. "Hoist the Colors", "Seven Nation Army", "Creep", man it is ALL good.
There's too many to choose from, "In the Air Tonight", "Hellfire", " Seven Nation Army", "Creep", " Moana", "Little Mermaid"..... I don't know, but as long as you react to them. I'm here for it.
So glad you finally listened to them. One of my favorite musical groups. Listen to their covers of Dragonborn Comes, Dream On, Nothing Else Matters, Creep, Tennessee Whiskey. They're insanely good. When you do Moana with your wife and daughter, also do Little Mermaid. And then bring them back for We Don't Talk About Bruno.
Saying "The Pentatonix" is like saying, "The Ren." It's just Ren. It's just Pentatonix. I was Shocked that you had never listened to VoicePlay. You are VERY varied in your tastes and your reactions! Glad you took the plunge! Dude, I have watched at least 20 of your Ren reactions with various guests. I don't think I've EVER seen some of the looks on your face that you gave me with this!! I am seriously into a cappella. For THIS group, it's hard to "tell you" where to start. ALL of their Disney stuff is great! They do a really fun Grinch. Love Game themes? Halo, Enemy, and more. One of MY favorites by these guys is "Hoist the Colors." I also particularly like the Viking themed videos; "My Mother Told Me" and "Valhalla Calling" (watch My Mother Told Me first. It's the predecessor). You love Home Free?? Then you REALLY need to check out Home Free vs VoicePlay in "Zombies vs Hillbillies" (guess which group is which! 😉). Many Home Fries are also Playahs and Pentatholics. Quite the rabbit hole! Hey Anthony! I like YOUR reactions as well. Yes, I'm already subscribed to both of you!
Thank you Anthony for passing this gem of a group along. Voiceplay are the best of the best at Disney/Broadway/Halloween themed covers and video game songs (Halo, Dragonborn comes, Enemy, ValhallaCalling). They also do tremendous reimagations of songs like Metallica's Nothing Else Matters, 7 Nation Army, or In the Air (tonight). They are completely indepedent artists and coown their production studio they use for videos.
I love watching people's first reactions to VoicePlay. Of the "Big Three" a cappella groups you mentioned, VoicePlay is the oldest; Geoff Castellucci and Layne Stein (the beatboxer, who happened to arrange this one) founded the group with Earl Elkins (big guy with a beard in this one) back in 1997. They actually appeared with Home Free on the show "The Sing Off" back in 2014. VoicePlay's members have changed over the years. Other videos to watch: "Just sing" (a big collaboration made during the early days of the COVID-19 quarantine, to raise money for a musicians' charity, be sure to put on the closed captions, it will tell you who everyone is). "Queen in 5 minutes" "Man in the Mirror" (Made as a tribute as one of their members left to join the US Navy) "Dream On" (Aerosmith cover) "Drunken Sailor" (a ridiculously twisted cover of the sea shanty, that tells its own story; be sure to stick around after the screen goes dark. There's an epilogue)
Thanks for your reaction and appreciation of Voice Play and thank you Anthony for turning him on to Voice Play. I am a new subscriber looking forward to more reactions to Voice Play and solo from their bass singer, Geoff Castellucci. Voice Play is very different from Pentatonix and Home Free in their style and theatrical approach to acapella music and are often referred to as the theater kids of acapella music (Home free has more of a Country/Folk style and Pentatonix is more of a trendy Pop style). Voice Play and most of their frequently featured guests are from Orlando Florida and have worked as performers for Universal and/or Disney theme parks after they graduated from high school. They work independently without a record label or contract by choice so they have complete control of their creative expression and balance of family life vs touring demands. Beatboxer, Layne Stein, and former Voice Play baritone, Tony Wakim, together own 'PattyCake Productions', the studio where most of Voice Play and solo Geoff's production is done. They do almost everything themselves as far as all of their arrangements, costumes, makeup, lighting and editing and put so much into the visuals and all aspects of their production. I am from central Florida and a long time fan and patron of their channel so they are my personal favorites of the big three acapella group. Based on your interests (that include Rap, technical effects and specialized beatboxing) I would recommend for you: "Valhalla Calling", "Superstition", "Nothing Else Matters", "Seven Nation Army", "Dream On", "Carry On My Wayward Son", "Warriors", "In The Air Tonight" to name a few. For Your wife and daughter, I would highly recommend "Little Mermaid Medley" and "We Don't Talk About Bruno".
Thank you, Anthony, for introducing VoicePlay to your friends ... this group is totally worth it! A few suggestions : "Nothing Else Matters", "Carry on my wayward son", " In the Air Tonight", "7 nations Army", "Dream On" and many more ... you can't go wrong!
Oh, thank you AR, for filling him in! I think I've HINTED to BP about VoicePlay a time or two. I love Home Free but VoicePlay does the *best* songs and are crazy imaginative. And Geoff is hotness.
Okay so the Moana medley is amazing, as is the Little Mermaid medley. Their covers of Dream on, Aerosmith, as well as Nothing Else Matters, Metallica are FIRE! Their cover of Valhalla Calling will literally blow your minds too!!! Really and truly, you cant go wrong with any if their songs....this group is insanely talented! Although, I do have to admit that my most favorite cover they have done is their cover of Man in the Mirror, by Michael Jackson 😊❤❤❤
I didn't see if someone else mentioned it, but acapella lovers consider Pentatonix as the student council, Voiceplay as the theatre kids, and Home Free as the guys in the parking lot sitting on their tailgate. Voiceplay does a lot of costume and playing into characters and story. Hellfire is their newest song that captures the range of the group with Geoff as the lead. Hoist the Colors and Drunken Sailor are great options to explore their arrangements. We Don't Talk About Bruno and Friends on the Other Side are amazing Disney covers. Hall of the Mountain King is a no lyric cover of an orchestra piece. Carry on Wayward Son is great for rock. Voiceplay has such a wide range of styles that they can cover with amazing creative videos. They have a great sense of humor and don't take themselves too seriously which makes for entertaining videos. Pretty much any song you choose will be amazing. Really hope you do a deep dive on them, and you will have a very eager audience following your journey.
Great reaction (and thank you Anthony for introducing another person to my favorite group). Oogie Boogie is a favorite of many but it is very Geoff-centric because he is a lead character from a movie. Santa was played by Geoff’s brother in law, but The Voice was done by Eli who was all in red. For pure harmonies, try out the covers of Tennessee Whiskey, Can’t Help Falling in Love with You and True Colors. For just plain fun, check out their Boy Bands in 5 Minutes which covers 11 songs from a variety of boy bands spanning a few generations. For rock try their covers of Carry On Wayward Son (which is the first I heard and still one of my favorites). They have also done Dream On, Seven Nation Army, and Creep. One of the most spectacular ones is their cover of Nothing Else Matters which we referr to as Metallicapella. Another favorite is their Queen in 5 Minutes medley. For drama, check out the covers of Hoist the Colours, My Mother Told Me and Valhalla Calling.
So glad you were introduced to VoicePlay! They are incredibly creative and talented. Favorites: Wicked, Vahalla Calling, Seven Nation Army, Queen in 5 Minutes, Warriors... and so many more!
❤❤❤😊😊😊 More Voiceplay please!! They will blow your mind. Home Free is great but these guys are on a completely diffrent level . Enjoy, and thank you Anthony for spreading the love.
VP also my favourite a capella group. All their rock songs are amazing! However EVERYTHING they touch turns to gold. Take your genre pick and go for it! 🔥🎈🕊
This is the song that introduced me to Voiceplay. They are definitely my favorite of the 3 big acapella groups. They are known as "The Theater Kids of Acapella" for a reason! If you are thinking about Moana, there's also The Little Mermaid medley...but the Disney song they do that blows me away and I watch at least twice a week because it just makes me smile, is We Don't Talk About Bruno from Encanto. It is brilliant! Also..since its Christmas season, check out The Chipmunk Song (Christmas Don't be Late) Everything these guys do is golden. Enjoy the trip down the rabbit hole!
They have sooooooo many amazing covers. I'm like you, I'm a Home Free lover, and then I found these guys. AMAZING!!!!! They have done a lot Metallica covers. #CO4Life
Always a treat watching someone listening/experiencing VP for the first time... 🎉😂❤ waiting for more... do Moana or any other song... there are no bad ones!😊
Geoff added to his range recently: lowest note A0 (growl), Bb (subharmonic), F1 (full chest), Bb5 (highest falsetto in Peaches (Super Mario Brothers - mini)). VoicePlay doesn't have a bad video and recently everything they touch is gold or maybe platinum. Nothing Else Matters (Metallica), In The Air Tonight (Phil Collins), Creep (RadioHead), Carry On My Wayward Son (Kansas), I Can't Make You Love Me (Bonnie Raitt), We're Good (Dua Lipa), an apocalyptic trilogy over 3 yrs - Warriors (Imagine Dragons), Dream On (Aerosmith), Seven Nation Army (White Stripes), Valhalla Calling (Miracle of Sound), Hellfire (Hunchback of Notre Dame), Drunken Sailor, In the Hall of the Mountain King, Dragonborn Comes Skyrim, Halo Theme, Little Mermaid (Disney), Moana (Disney).
VoicePlay is my favorite band, though Home Free and PTX are also amazing too. My favorites are more of their slower songs - Daddy Sang Bass, Tennessee Whisky, Bang!, Wicked; We don't Talk about Bruno, Queen and Boy Bands are fun, They have a Panic a the Disco Trilogy (the videos tell as story); but their most popular (always fun to watch reactions to) are: Hoist the Colors, Nothing Else Matters, Enemy, Dream On, and recently HellFire. But they are all good. They can make songs you don't like enjoyable :)
Moana is an excellent choice. I highly recommend 'Hoist the Colors', 'Valhalla Calling', & 'Nothing Else Matters', 'We Don't Talk About Bruno', Drunken Sailor' ... the list is too long to write. I have yet to hear something from Voice Play that is 'bad'. Every damn thing they do is stellar. Pull up their channel and take the ride down the rabbit hole. Also, they just did a 2-night live performance with the rock band Chicago. It is awesome!!
VoicePlay is different again from Home Free or PTX by being so diverse and so theatrical. They cover anything frm Disney to Rock and everything in between.Geoff now has an official range of five octaves, from his growl notes down at A0 to his rock tenor notes at A#5. I second the suggestion of Hoist The Colours. But you might also like Dream On, and Nothing Else Matters.
Always fun to watch new reactions to Voiceplay! Moana is one of their most popular, but I like their Little Mermaid Medley better. They have a whole Disney playlist for you and your daughter. But they can do any genre. They will always pay homage to the original, but it will never be a copycat version. Geoff has said, Why do something that someone else has already done? They don't always go full on makeup and costume, but they are always wonderful. Subscribed in anticipation of more Voiceplay and Geoff Castellucci!!
Yeah! It was so cool, watching Anthony introducing Voiceplay to you! Thank you for sharing it with us. I just subscribed in hope of more Voiceplay on your channel now
I See Fire is a Geoff Castelluci only song, and it gets some serious play time around here. He has his own channel and I spend just as much time there as I do on the VoicePlay channel. Really good stuff on both.
Can't really go wrong with Voice Play. As mentioned Hoist the Colors and Valhalla Calling are great. Also their version of Creep is phenomenal. Any of Geoff Castellucici's solo work is amazing. Welcome to the world of Voice Players !
Amazing cover! Voiceplay has a varied song selection and something for everyone. "Nothing Else Matters" cover will give you the best sample of their vocals, but "Valhalla Calling" will blow your mind. Over 1K likes so looking forward to more VP!
Thanks, Anthony, for introducing VoicePlay to the channel! 👍 It's funny that you say acapella is not really your thing, because you're more about the music. Same! But I love VoicePlay. I often have to remind myself that it's an acapella group, because their background "music" and production are so good, it doesn't sound like just voices. And then, add to that, they're so great visually telling their stories. That's why, although they have better vocal arrangements and productions than this, this remains my favorite music video of theirs. Everything just comes together perfectly here.
thank Anthony for putting him in front of this I've been dying since he was not feeling geoff solo stuff.. next up should definitely be Moana but also 7 nation army so you hear the song without the character voices
Just for the record Geoff said in an interview many of the notes that people say are subharmonics including the E1 at the end of this one is his chest voice.
Okay. Anthony Ray is starting to become my favorite person. I did not know how many things that he likes I also like. Also, @Black Pegasus, you need to react to Geoff's cover of The Headless Horseman.
Geoff Castelucci released his version of Jack's Lament from The Nightmare Before Christmas showrtly before this past Halloween. His performance and the production are, as always, incredible.
Valhalla Calling is one of my favorites, but you really can't go wrong. Every song they do is a banger. They are the theater kids of a capella.
Hey Deb! I couldn't agree more. I love VP - every song they do is phenomenal.
Valhalla calling is probably my 3rd favourite behind oogie boogie song and of course Hoist the colours
YES PLEASE!!!
My favorite Voice Play is "Hoist the Colors". That video deserves an Grammy award. If PTX can get one for "Daft Punk" then Voice Play should have gotten one for "Hoist the Colors"
I was going to suggest "Hoist the Colors" too. That was the first Voiceplay video I saw, and the one that got me hooked.
Yesss!!! Hoist the Colors!
Hoist the colors is my favorite too
YES PLEASE!!!
They are all amazing vocally but to really hear them all shine start with “Carry on my Wayward Son”
Thank you, Anthony! And I'm with you one the best of the 3. 🤙💞🍻
Their Aerosmith cover of Dream On is crazy
Nothing Else matters was heard by a producer who hired them to perform with Chicago in a couple concerts filmed to be released on streaming and Blu-ray. Look for the Chicago and Friends concert!

Only thing I'd add is that "my mother told me" joins "Valhalla calling" as a Viking themed.
As well "Running up that hill" is grand.
Moana, Little Mermaid, Valhalla Calling.. No bad choices. ❤❤
Also have to mention their cover of CREEP, By Radiohead!!! Happy reacting, look forward to seeing them!!!❤
VoicePlay is my favorite band, though Home Free and PTX are also amazing too.
Hoist the Colours is one of their best
Moana is definitely one of my favorites by them, but I think their cover of "Nothing Else Matters" is on another level.
As others have said, you can't go wrong with ANY Voiceplay song, but I'd LOVE to see your reaction to Drunken Sailor sometime.
So happy you did VP!!
Did you ever do more Voiceplay? Did I just miss it? You def. need to revisit them if you haven't!
This is my sister’s favorite movie and she loves the oogie boogie, I’m going to send this to her
hoist the colors and valhalla calling is a must !!!
pegasus gotta see that !
Yeah! It was so cool, watching Anthony introducing Voiceplay to you! Thank you for sharing it with us. I just subscribed in hope of more Voiceplay on your channel now
Nothing Else Matters, we don't talk about Bruno, I see fire, in the air tonight are just a few. Have fun in the rabbit hole😊
I See Fire is a Geoff Castelluci only song, and it gets some serious play time around here. He has his own channel and I spend just as much time there as I do on the VoicePlay channel. Really good stuff on both.
The Moana medley is fantastic. The Little Mermaid medley great. The Wicked medley is Geoff's arrangement masterpiece.
Can't really go wrong with Voice Play. As mentioned Hoist the Colors and Valhalla Calling are great. Also their version of Creep is phenomenal. Any of Geoff Castellucici's solo work is amazing. Welcome to the world of Voice Players !
Valhala Calling, Hoist the Colour, Dream On, We don't talk about Bruno. What ever you pick is just amazing
Valhalla Calling, Creep, and Nothing Else Matters...
Dragonborn comes is one of my favorites by them
Amazing cover!
It's funny that you say acapella is not really your thing, because you're more about the music.
Hoist the colors is my favorite!
This is Halloween is really good as well! I always pair it with the Oogie Boogie song
Like Anthony, Voiceplay is also my favorite acapella group out of the big 3. I specially love their rock covers. Pick anything they never disappoiny.
Nothing Else Matters- brilliant!
Queen in 5 Minutes will blow your minds.
Checkout Voiceplay Hellfire from the Hunchback of Notre Dame
Nothing Else Matters, Little Mermaid Medley, Valhalla Calling, Your're A Mean One (Mister Grinch)...it's all amazing!
thank Anthony for putting him in front of this I've been dying since he was not feeling geoff solo stuff.. next up should definitely be Moana but also 7 nation army so you hear the song without the character voices
Hellfire from Hunchback of Notre Dame, but with VoicePlay you can´t do anything wrong ;-)
Love and Hugs from Germany
Just for the record Geoff said in an interview many of the notes that people say are subharmonics including the E1 at the end of this one is his chest voice.
VoicePlay Is AMAZING!!! I hope you react to more of their work
Vahahlia Calling, Nothing Else Matters.
They do this live and it is just as good
In The Air Tonight
Nothing Else Matters
Running Up That Hill
Golden Hour
Creep
Voiceplay blew it away with their cover of Metallica’s “Nothing Else Matters.”
Okay. Anthony Ray is starting to become my favorite person. I did not know how many things that he likes I also like. Also, @Black Pegasus, you need to react to Geoff's cover of The Headless Horseman.
ps I subscribed now that BP will be adding VoicePlay & Geoff Castellucci to play, I'm sure. Plus Home Free!
Geoff Castelucci released his version of Jack's Lament from The Nightmare Before Christmas showrtly before this past Halloween. His performance and the production are, as always, incredible.
Voiceplay is one of my favorite groups and my favorite songs from them are hoist the colors and hellfire as well as the dragonborn comes
Valhalla Calling will blow you away!
You gotta do the two viking songs that they do!
So glad you guys reacted to this
