Why Ukraine Has Managed To Deal Body Blows To Putin’s Mighty Russian Army In The Dark

  • Putin’s invading forces seem to be falling victim to Ukrainian attacks in the night. Several instances of Aerorozvidka, a tactical drone unit in Ukraine’s army, striking Russian units in the darkness have been reported. Ukraine’s small drones equipped with thermal imagers are able to locate Russian vehicles using heat signals of their engines. The Ukrainian drone units then bomb the invaders with Soviet-era anti-tank grenades. What’s making Putin’s forces easy prey for Kyiv in the dark?

Ukrainians both at home and abroad routinely raise funds and buy expensive equipment for their mobilized soldiers. I personally know that my grandparents village raised money to equip boys who were joining the military. And if in 2014-2015 we were donating money to mostly buy kevlar helmets, body armour, tactical boots and pickup trucks, now most of fundraising events plan to buy night vision scopes, enterprise grade drones with thermal cameras and ruggedized computers for artillery units.

I was a Blackhawk crew chief during that time and when we started to train up flying at night. Big difference with them than not. We were told that 1 hour with NVGs was the same as flying 2 hours during the day. It take a toll on you but I would rather fly with them than not. The basics of avoiding detection from night vision is rigorous noise and light discipline.
Russia doesn't have the Sergeants nor highly trained Privates to do even the basics.
Heck, the Russians took thousands of frostbite injuries which if the basics of supply and troop discipline were being followed, they wouldn't have taken.

My only minor point is that I'd be surprised if the Russian army didn't have at least some NCO's in their thirties and forties who served in the Chechen wars in their youth, and who would presumably know a thing or two about fighting and surviving in a cold climate. However, I don't suppose they could do much about the Putin-era quartermasters' failure to issue them with cold weather gear.

The parallels between the Winter War and the war in Ukraine are numerous:
1)An isolated and paranoid tyrant launches a war against a neighboring sovereign state which used to be part of the Russian Empire. In the hopes of gaining territory and achieving strategic depth of defense.
2)An isolated and paranoid tyrant purges his military leadership to protect his position fostering a cult of personality that only tells him what he wants to hear.
3)An isolated and paranoid tyrant underestimates his opponent's ability to resist and believes he can exploit a 5th column within his opponent's population and be welcomed as liberators.
4)An isolated and paranoid tyrant doesn't recognize his opponent's nationalism and ethnic identity. Instead, he considers them nothing more than a rebellious vassal state and fails to see how nationalism and ethnic identity motivate his opponents.
5)An isolated and paranoid tyrant tries to attack an enemy in winter across terrain that is composed of lakes, rivers, swamps, forests, and favors the defenders. This kind of terrain robs the attacker of strategic mobility and freedom of maneuver and leaves the attacker vulnerable and road-bound.
6)The attacker launches multiple uncoordinated and widely dispersed offensives that can't achieve tactical or strategic superiority in numbers. None of the offensives can provide mutual support which allows the defenders to defeat the attacks in detail.
7)The attacker relies on unencrypted communications which are intercepted by the defender and allows them advanced warning of offensives and their objectives.
8)The attacker neglects the importance of training, maintenance, and logistics for his army. Instead, the attacker relies on weight of numbers and fails to see that poorly trained and equipped conscripts don't perform well against a defender who has better training due to a reservist force structure which gives them more experience.
9)The attacker fails to gain air superiority and resorts to terror bombing of population centers in hopes of demoralizing their opponent when it just hardens their resolve. The terror bombing also shows how tactically inept the attackers are and how they are unable to exploit their numerical and technical advantages.
10)The attacker assumes that his opponent won't receive any worthwhile support from sympathetic allies. Instead, the attacker assumes his threats will scare the allies and fracture their alliances when it only hardens the resolve of both the defenders and their allies to resist the attackers

Russia way back in the Georgia war realized lack of NV (night vision) was an issue for them, supposedly 10-20% of non Special Operations forces had NV currently and all were supposed to get it but we are seeing that was a lie by the Kremlin. The Kremlin went with a cheaper option supposedly, no NV goggles but instead troops would have a typical reflex sight red dot with modes capable of being seen in NV then behind that they would have a small flip to the side NV scope/magnifier mounted on a rail but I have yet to see any troops at all with that let alone 20% as claimed, in fact most have old AK's without rails to even mount them thus stuck with iron sights. Ukraine has been getting sent tons of NV and thermal scopes, monoculars and binoculars from ATN a US company specializing in "bargain" cost NV and thermal optics as well as shipments from NATO governments thus Ukraine is owning the night.

Remember the story of the US tanks hunting Iraqi tanks, but the Iraqi tank commanders was smart, they positioned their tanks then had them go dark with engines off. The tanks cooled down to the temperature of the desert making them invisible to the thermal sights of the West. But the commanders were partly out from their hatches to have a look around. The US soldiers saw thermal images of half a man hovering above the dessert, it was the Iraqi commanders. They aimed to hit whatever was there below the phantom image and knocked out the Iraqi tanks.

Corruption my friend, corruption. The Ukrainians have found flak jackets with cardboard inside, instead of steel. One guy was laughing because he found one with a laptop in it. I suggested it was probably an in the field upgrade. The Ukrainians actually wrote a letter to one of the higher ups in the Russian army thanking him for keeping the corruption at such a high level. True story.

Here's a thought knowing this hurts alot of sux's and trained orcs but so be it ,"maybe poo poo poo tin isn't a genius he claims to be" I know it hurts tearing down people's deity but hee r seems and acts very failable almost like he's mortal and sort of normal except for pyschopathy hee r could be any Russian office worker, why do hizz people think he's "special" ? Here in OZ special people go to special school and get treated by specialist because their little bit different like a box of chocolates, I think that's hee r special when govt pays himm to stay at home take care of himself because he can't play nice with others because he's special operation unit by himself!!!🏆🎀🥇💎💮😄🪅💍🎁💐🇦🇺🏵️🏠🌸⚔️✌️🗝️🌻🌹🎉🪙🎯💯🌍

What? Feel free to disagree, But I don’t think there’s ever been a war this one sided against 2 countries. How is Russia even still in Ukraine? After all these reports that come out about Ukraine, and say Ukraine has done this that the third. With the amount of losses they are saying Russia is losing, It’s not even supposed to be anywhere Ukraine.

Russia maintains a large military for its size and is a bigger country than Ukraine. Ukraine army has to inflict huge casualties before the Russian army is forced to withdrawal.

These Ukrainian soldiers seem to be Supermen. They can do no wrong, apparently they always mount successful attacks and never seem to get attacked or lose any soldiers. It's remarkable, the war should be over a long time ago. How come it's not...? 🤔

They're not. They are also taking losses and we see Ukranians being buried with honors.
What the Russians are lacking is their willingness to learn from their mistakes, because they are afraid to speak up against their commanders.
