Nice video. I'll be traveling solo to that region next year. Is it possible to order a smaller cut? For those who aren't a fan of this restaurant, what are your recommendations?
The red wine the waiter is making such a performance out of pouring is from Villa Antinori a family name/vinyard with a great history of wine production in tuscany.....However, the bottle they have chosen is their base line product which during my last visit to Florence in 2017 was on sale in the local supermarkets (coop/esselunga etc) for 4.5/5 euros....I have to wonder how much the restaurant charged for such a bottle considering the steak probably cost somwhere between 60 to 100 euros...The same bottle of red wine (there's also a white equivalent) is available at waitrose in the uk....You will find the red in its "fine wine" section.... its priced "slightly" higher than the Italian supermarkets at £16-£18.99 a bottle....Whilst perfectly drinkable the mark up at the restaurant and in the uk is totally outrageous.....Minchia...!!!😊
I think that’s always the case. The wine was pretty good. I believe it was priced at 40 euros. As you said the mark up prices are crazy. I can get a descent Napa wine for $30 dollars from the market, but the restaurants will offer at $100.
Trattoria dell'Oste: very, very touristy and absolutely unauthentic place (not surprisingly next to the train station!...). It's just business!... The fact that they ask for the preferred cooking of the meat shows that it is a place for tourists: the Florentine steak is eaten exclusively rare, no authentic restaurant asks for cooking, because there is only one cooking!. Then bringing the meat to the table on a hot plate is another (wrong) concession made to tourists: the meat does not cool down, but continues to cook and this is a mistake that an authentic restaurateur does not make. Again: the saucer with oil, as Americans like it. In Italy it is absolutely not used, we are used to excellent quality extra virgin olive oil. The saucer with oil is the ultimate tourist fiction!.

I agree. Steak should be rare. And no to the hot plate. Which steakhouse do you recommend then?
