    I love butane and torch style lighters but for my needs personally the Xikar Scribe burl is what i prefer, it has a clean burning flame similar to normal lighters but works the same as this in some ways. Overall its about the size and length of a normal writing pen hence the name "Scribe", you pull it apart which opens the gas valve, and strike the flint like yours. It also has a pen clip, and with Xikars life time warranty you can't beat it. flint is easy to replace it's the same method as yours. Best for pipe smokers or cigar smokers.

      @JungleOldSkooler 5 лет назад +8

      @@cutlerylover well, on most "turbo" butane lighters you have this tiny lock which keeps the valve open and which you won't flick on accidentally, without igniting the gas.
      This one has wheel without any safety feature, so you may end up with dead lighter one day, because you rotated the switch when putting it in the organiser and it went unnoticed.
      Also, I doubt these sparks will be strong enough to light something because with classic rod pieces of burning magnesium are flying from it, not just small sparks.
      So in fact, this lighter created a problem that didn't exist with classic piezoelectric butane lighters (which also won't run out of flint) and the benefits are sporadic.
      No hate dude but I don't see the 30$ value behind this solution.
      Also finish seems to be the same as on my old and beaten up 10$ lighter (which I think was overpriced).
      Hope it's gonna serve you long years, tho.

    I bought mine for $19.99 a few years ago w/no problems. All Vectors have a lifetime warranty so its worth the money. Mine lights with a piezo crystal instead of flint. It being a torch makes it completely windproof. If you smoke you'll spend more than $20 on disposable lighters in a year.

    2:46 come on... There is more fuel wasted every time it's being lit than saved by separating the actions.

      It’s not possible something needs to grab and grip the wheel from both ends and the butane is Loud. Then push and pull the flint wheel a centimeter to strike. The flint wheel springs so you have to press down then strike. But these are dangerous. I have the same one but 2 flames. It’s ridiculous. Unless on low, There’s not much to use it for because it lasts 2 or 3 minutes on high with a full tank. It should have been a tiny bit longer or wider to actually use the ridiculous amount of power. You can use a piezo torch with one big flame and it will last longer because you can turn it on and off super fast. And hold more gas. It’s just cool looking and I can only use it to torch something. Like a perfect self defense weapon. It’s scary powerful.

    *I want to warn y'all.* I've used a regular fuel lighter, and trying to light stuff isn't exactly easy after you've used it for extended periods of time, that flint wheel gets *EXTREMELY HOT,* and i burned my thumb on it once, so be warned, they can be dangerous, not just because of fire, because of a design fault/flaw, or because i'm kinda dumb.

    • @SemenTheSailor

  • @BJOlson
    @BJOlson 5 лет назад +10

    I hate to be that guy but did you really buy this lighter so you could light tinder with it in a survival situation? A standard bic lighter has enough fuel in it to carry a flame for over an hour. If you're in a situation where you're gonna "waste" all the fuel in a bic lighter, you've got more problems than starting a tinder bundle.

  •  5 лет назад +3

    Beiond me why would someone would just want to spark without _wasting_ any gas.
    If starting a fire, with tinder or something... the flame will do it a ton lot faster.
    Does that, or any other, have the butane reservoir fully metalic?
    I found that plastic reservoirs freeze pretty fast and the pressure drops and other plastic parts near the burner tend to melt with prolonged usage. I am kinda looking for that full aluminium, brass, steel and rubber/silicone grommets lighter that I can warm up in the winter by holding it in my hand and wont eventually just melt it's plastics and eject the burner or the flint at some point.
    Until then, the cheap ones are just great.

    Agreed just stupidly trying to make up excuses to justify a purchase... look I can make it spark with out fuel... are you under the impression that a cheap bic lighter won't send a spark if it's out of fuel? The flint is still there.. as for not wasting fuel which may have been the point you are trying to make but who ever has been like damm if only this lighter didn't make a flame every damm time I sparked it! Also seems like a lot more fuel is being wasted to turn the knob then spark the flint in two diffrent motions then doing it in one like a normal lighter.. if you would have came out and just said hey I bought this lighter because it's neat that would have been fine.. but trying to come up with nonsensical reasons why its better then a normal lighter just came off dumb.

    2:34 there's no way such a small spark is able to light even the driest tinder/kindling.
    2:53 just: don't press the button; slide your finger sideways... It isn't that hard.
    By just opening the valve, until you spark the gas... you wasted more gas than by failing to ignite a 5 cent lighter several dozen times.
    Creating a problem to "solve" it, that is called a straw man fallacy sales approach.

    It's my favorite as well. Several problems with them. I am convinced no matter how much money you spend, torch lighters ain't worth a shit. At any price point. They are all flawed. This one solves the electric ignition that goes bad on EVERY torch lighter. There is still deterioration over time. Year and a half is the longest I ever had one of these. But I bought the same one again. Have had prolly 5 over 5 years.
    Just got the latest version. It has a fuel window. It's bulkier than this model. Sharper edges but I feel it's an evolution of this model. Well see how long she lasts.

    The amount of gas used when you rotate the collar is likely more than whats used up in the cheapo lighter,when you flick the flint. butane torches are good but i think they also blow through gas 3X faster and are difficult to fill the first few times if you have no experience. it still uses a flint, not a negative but useless if its wet like most lighters.

    So many critics of the lighter. There has been many times I’ve been doing something with a bic and holding the gas button down has been getting my fingers dangerously close to the flame for a uncomfortable amount of time. I’d much rather spend $30 than burn my thumb again ... seems like a great lighter to me for the uses I have for a lighter. Which are never lighting a cigarette...
