Honestly I like it. No more boring useless kickoffs out of the endzone. It requires a play, it requires strategy, it is safer than what we see now and it adds excitement.
This only applies if it's after 3:17 pm central time zone when it's partly cloudy, temp under 63 degrees and the stadium is 17/ 32 full. Otherwise it's a safety for the team that plays on next Thursday. It's so simple they should have done this when the NFL started all those years ago.
The major argument I see from people supporting this is... "well kick returns were a joke anyway, this will make it better." That's like if I was king Justin, and I made a new rule where from now on you gotta walk to work I am no longer allowing vehicles... then, like 3 years later I'm like I'm gonna make a new rule! You get to ride a bicycle to work now! Okay... it's an improvement over the garbage I have created the situation with the dumb rules to start worth. It's still by far worse than what it was before the idiots involved in the nfl messed with it to begin with. Don't even get me started on the onside kick rule this is HORRIFICLY BAD. Just outright remove all strategic onside kicks from the game way to go NFL.
Although it sucks that trick/surprise plays have been eliminated (both here and with PATs), I think this is a vast improvement. This is going to be a fun season
and now no more trick plays on kick offs because you have to say if you are kicking off or onside kicking and its a penalty if you dont do what you say.
Kinda like how rugby scrums always started from 1 yard apart then you smash together. Now you start together. Older guys hated the change, but they also have fucked up necks so
Any kick that hits in the landing zone and then goes into the end zone - must be returned or downed by receiving team - if downed then touchback to B20 yard line
They can do on sides, but only if they declare beforehand, and at that point it's even harder than it used to be, because the receiving team gets to stack all 11 up close because they know there can't be a pooch kick.
I know. I’ve hated changes ever since they stopped penalizing incomplete forward passes! I can’t wait for them to come to their senses and pretty much get rid of the forward pass! The game hasn’t been the same since!
@@wesleywildcat84 those rule changes were for coherent reasons. The systematic rule changes for "player safety" are a joke. Was the return a joke? Yes because of previous rule changes morphing into a joke. The game is becoming more unwatchable by the day. Injuries are actually higher than ever by the way... because they preach player safety, and create idiotic rules like this, and drop tackles, normies like you accept them as player safety rules. They aren't, it has nothing to do with player safety. It has everything to do with garnering the appearance of caring about player safety. If they cared about player safety they wouldn't be playing on turf, they wouldn't be increasing the number of games, and reducing rest time by adding mid week games. And making stupid rules regarding practice so now the league is full of soft tissue injuries because no one is ready for live play. You people don't even realize how badly they are ruining what once was an incredible game.
@@JustinJets - Hey, I like the idea of head slaps, clotheslines, and doing away with the receiver can’t get touched after five yards! It’ll be awesome! I also can’t wait for them to allow Mahomes to get slammed and there’s not a penalty! Long love Old School, who wouldn’t survive a minute today!
Let me get this straight - ball carriers will wear a belt with two flags on it. Tacklers must snatch off one of the flags. Screw the NFL. They have utterly destroyed the game that their core fan base loved.
dont hate it. the only thing im not sure i understand is why the kicking team is penalized for shorter kicks, as those are already penalties in a sense by giving the opposing team a short field on offense? i would just make touchbacks to the 35 or something and bounce touch backs to the 10 (to incentivize the return team to try to return it. i really just dont want to see kickoffs with no play at all. i would probably also move the kicker back to the 30 yard line
I don't like the rule change , it makes me think of 'rugby'. When the ball is down & it's fare game , players at this point are gonna be in close proximity to each other , trying to pick up the ball , all the while accidentally kicking the ball , cause you know that's gonna happen . They should have left the kickoffs the way it was !
Honestly I like it. No more boring useless kickoffs out of the endzone. It requires a play, it requires strategy, it is safer than what we see now and it adds excitement.
We're gonna see more Kickoffs returned for TDs than ever before... thats my prediction.
Love it. Next up is to have tiered point after attempts. 2 points from the 2, 3 points from the 15, 4 points from the 30, 6 points from your own 20
Goes without saying, how could they not.
More likely is get rid of PATs.
1 pt from the 2.
2 pts from the 5.
3 pts from the 10.
That’s actually how it’ll work in the UFL and worked in the XFL.
I love this! encourages more return, while keeping players safety top priority! what else can we ask for as fans??
He's incorrect. It's a touchback to the 30, NOT the 35. Replace 35 in ball placement with 30.
Onside kicking rule is garbage though.

That's what the commercials are for
NFL will F it up with holding penalties and blocks to the back
Although it sucks that trick/surprise plays have been eliminated (both here and with PATs), I think this is a vast improvement. This is going to be a fun season
Incorrect information. Kick hits in end zone, stays inbounds - returned or downed - if downed then touchback to B30 yard line NOT the 35
So the onside kick is dead and there's no real way for the kicking team to down a ball or force a returner to drop the ball or anything
Rule Manufactured Scoring Boost lame
Thx for explanation. Do we sign Hardee now?😂. BTW Tigo sent me
In South Park they call it Sarcastic ball
The kick is from the 30, to prevent as many touch backs
thanks for that BJF, I like the concept

Im sorry why exactly do they need to announce an onside kick?
Is it a live ball once it lands in the landing zone? So if the receiving team doesnt down it its a turnover?
This is gonna create confusion
What happens if the ball lands between the 20 and 30 in rolls into the landing zone
goes to the 40 i believe. The ball has to land in the 20 yd landing zone
Any kick that hits in the landing zone and then goes into the end zone - must be returned or downed by receiving team - if downed then touchback to B20 yard line
How is it a live ball in the landing zone if the kicking team can't advance until the returner touches it?
the kicking team can run once the ball hits the turf or a returner
