Yes, he would've been twice as big if he'd lived. He was quickly becoming the bridge between straight blues and R&R. I know he would've toured the Family Style album with Jimmie Vaughan and probably produced ZZ Top & John Mayer along the way
A quote from Stevie's song is in Vegas on one of the buildings, possibly one of the casinos. It was in the movie 21, and when I saw the quote and then his name I yelled "Yeah Stevie!!!!!" Let's just say everyone else was looking at me. Great performance like always. R.I.P. Stevie!!!!!
Barb in Dallas here. Miss him everyday. Every show with SRV is the best show I ever saw. A favorite of mine didn't involve a single note. Every birthday Bo and Jim from Q102 radio would prank call him, his gorgeous girlfriend would answer (she was in on it) and within three words Stevie would yell Dammit Bo, I was just about to get my ....coffee on,...Guitar on,...shower on... yea right, you're Stevie Ray Vaughn !!
I used to watch Arsenio Hall show everyday when it was on TV..He would have every type of music artists from every genre..From rap to thrash metal really.. He was very cool
"I like all kinds of music, there's room for everything, that gives it room for me too" This guy's soul is even more beautiful than his guitar playing. Saw him in concert once and at the end of the show he said "Take care of each other". Thanks for all that great music.
I did see SRV play once in Dallas, in a way I would say he reinvented the blues. It seemed for 2 hrs god came down to visit us we all sat spellbound, I've never seen any gtrist before or after not just blues gtrist any better or even close. That cld play like him. 3 wks later I saw him at a Thai joint, I was star struck but I got up my nerve and tld him he was the grtest guitar player in the wrld he with Lenny they both laughed then I laughed and he said "thx man".
David Sanborn used to have a music oriented show called "Night Noise" and Stevie Ray and DT were frequent guests...I'd crank it loud when they were on and get creative for my landscape design classes!!
Stevie was one of our stars, and stars burn bright, then they burn out...........He did what he came here to do, make us happy with his talent, but only for a little while. Now he is one of our stars in the sky..........Burn Bright 4 Us Stevie, we miss U....
Arsenio, the man who put arse ....into his own name! He went bankrupt not long ago, shame.SRV promoting his best album, tragic that he is no longer with us, no one could play blues like Stevie RIP.
Very cool video. I love stevie and really miss him. But, i know he's in heaven lookin down on all his fans and he probly cant believe that people still love him and his music. love ya stevie
KKDA AM 730 is still on the air in Dallas, which is the station Stevie was referring to. There is also a KKDA FM 104, but that's more of a Hip Hop thing going on. KKDA AM 730 was the heart of blues for years. When Al "TNT" Braggs, was still alive, he spun lots of blues on that station. Al passed away in December of 2003. Anyway KKDA is still around to answer the original question.
It would be the greatest moment of my life if I got the chance to play and talk with Stevie. Even for as little as 5 mins. Just his story of him becoming this superstar, then getting hooked on drugs until the point of almost dying, and then he was able to get help and get over his drug problem and then right after that...died in a helicopter crash leaving a concert . We lost one of the greatest musicians ever that day. RIP SRV
@webgeek6 Dude It was f*cking great back in the early '80s when you could go to a old school blues club like Mother Blues in Dallas & sit way up close & watch them play . Hell you could go over & talk to them like they was regular folks during breaks . Or after they finished playing buy them a round or two & talk till the club closed up at 2AM !! My friend it was Spiritual Experience !! I only had a inkling of how lucky I was back then. A getting old guys memories .
Miss Stevie and miss seeing Arsenio on TV too. He was cool. He shook up late night TV like Stevie shook up the rock/blues guitar world. Very humble guy, smoking hot guitar player. Won't be another like him.
really sad he has left us all so so early, but I guess he is very much still with us and his beautiful guitar work, music and that great band!! RIP SRV :)
I can't imagine what the poor band is feelin every time they hear SRV. I am a musician and can understand what they are going through. As a fan I still cry and know where I was when I heard the news. Sad but lucky to have been alive to witness this amazing man.
@jayscott Right on man, even the imfamous music question he still was a class act. hes one of those guys we wish we could have back or at least see once in concert
Stevie kicked ass before he got clean and sober, and then he just got even better afterward. I remember the day he died; that was some damn sad news. RIP Stevie.
seen alot of players doin all kinds of music and never did any of them play it like srv!!!!! the ease of witch he played and the love the man put into every note was inspiring to all that had the priviledge to hear him lay it down!!!! RIP SRV
Stevie was such a humble man. But when he smiled it lit up the room, and it makes me smile really really big too. It's a shame he isn't here anymore. R.I.P. Stevie I miss you everyday!!!!!
Hi Barb. I live in Wisconsin and was at his last show at Alpine Valley. He was absolutely on fire that night. I'll never forget it or any of the other SRV shows I saw. Always a consummate guitar GOD and very underrated. The Fire Meets the Fury Tour with Beck sticks out for me because I was in the front row, just turned 21 and it punctuated the best year of my life. Nice to hear from a fellow SRV fan. Thanks :)
Stevie was just a very humble outstanding person...everyone learns from everyone and contributes their own uniqueness to music...just a beautiful guy and what a player, what a loss...Stevie is alive somewhere lookin down on us all.
A class act, all the way. How humble & dignified is he. Look up gentleman & love in the dictionary and S.R.V will come up. Jimmie must have been absolutely devastated
I used to love the Arsenio show and him too! He always had great guest and had questions for them and Arsenio was very genuine. He should get a show again.
I saw him at the Reading Festival in 1983 and the crowd just pelted the band with plastic bottles until they started playing Voodoo Chile. I thought they were fucking amazing!!
In just a tad over 7 months, it will have been 30 years since I heard the news. I followed him from a dive club in Austin all the way through. What a loss.
The legend Stevie Ray Vaughan ..blue's and rock n roll that's the phenominal sounds your hearing..Great band..Stevie is number one around the globe and he is famously on that strat..That guitar played over the head or behind his back..Cool..way to go Stevie..your the BEST..
@sledgeguitar oh my, oh my, oh my....liquid guitar lines. exactly how i would put it. just like you could drink the music, yeah? dang, right on. my friend, you've got it right. well done.
A talent without equal and an awesome human being. It brings me to tears to hear and watch him play now. I can't believe he's gone. Rest in peace, Stevie.
It's him. In most of the shots you can see him doing his back-and-forth sway, and the zoomed shot mentioned above is more than enough to show it's him, sans-hat. I don't know why people bother to deny it, but I guess you can all do/believe whatever you'd like. But it's Tommy Shannon.
@SavantSvant SRV actually did join Bowie's band after SRV played Montreux in 82 and they did an album, but then he left to do Texas Flood with double trouble.
@kirbycol4 Back in the day, Kirby, I was knocked out at the way he'd lay down solid bass with his left hand on a little Rhodes keyboard bass (like Ray Manzarek of the Doors), while playing real nice Hammond organ or electric piano. That was to free up the guy in the band who doubled on bass and sax. Yeah, Reese can wail. I LOVED it when Stevie added keys to his sound, and he sure picked a guy who had soul, chops and taste. Keep on rollin' ...
I really envy you, I can't imagine how good that must have been... I discovered him about 3 months ago and all I can say is wow... They just don't make 'em like they used to
I used to think that Arsenio was just booking rap, pop, and R 'n' B acts. But if Arsenio respects Stevie, then that just adds to Stevie's legend because at that time, Arsenio was like the gospel truth to everyone who watched him was considered cool.
People always focus on his guitar playing (rightfully so) but Stevie was also an excellent singer.
Yes! I’m in love with his voice ❤️
He had a great voice with a distinctive sound.
Same could have been said about Jeff Healey
Agreed. He is a hell of a singer
Humble man. He's the reason I started playing guitar.
Man, Stevie was a class act. When Arseno asks him about people comparing him to Hendrix he says....There's only one Jimi Hendrix.
Sharon Mynes Stevie Ray was better than Jimi Hendrix!
@@4redniwediS - Not on his best night but he was close.
justafanintexas the way I see it, there is one Hendrix, and there is one SRV.
There is no SRV without Hendrix
@@AlexFrezCorrea SRV could play Hendrix better than Hendrix
I miss seeing Stevie Ray play live so much. The tour he did with Jeff Beck is still to this day the best show I ever saw.
u lucky duck I was born to late 1990 I missed a chance to see him live
You just have to love SRV, even if you don't know a thing about blues music or any music for that matter.. I miss him tremendously..
Yes, he would've been twice as big if he'd lived. He was quickly becoming the bridge between straight blues and R&R. I know he would've toured the Family Style album with Jimmie Vaughan and probably produced ZZ Top & John Mayer along the way

one of the greatest guitarists to ever draw breath. RIP SRV
Surprising how soft spoken he was. You'd never know this is the same guy who sang and played with such energy.
Such a soft-spoken man for the music he played.
He's so polite and soft spoken
hard to watch without feeling extremely sad
I know, can't believe I saw him twice, 1984 & 1990, wish I could remember more about the shows or tried to meet him
It's heartbreaking. Such a lovely man.
@@jennifersman7990 wow, at least you saw him perform... so amazing... 👍🏼
@@maryspencer4975 i met his brother, i wish i would’ve met stevie
@@paul1060 I saw Stevie and his brother on the riverboat in New Orleans. Great show. Jimmy seems like a good guy. Glad you were able to meet him.

walkin' up the street @1:45 his voice goes double octave in a split second. DUDE, that's CRAZEEEEEEE !!!!!!!!!!
At first I thought it was a fourth. Nope, really cool little microsecond blip into the next octave. Not sure he meant to do it, but it sounded neat.

Stevie was truly cool people man. I love rap and hip hop and I grew up knowing nothing else but that. But damn bro, SRV is THE MAN! The dude is truth.
I remember this..what a sad year it was...Nothin' like some basic rock and roll..He did it all,...and I say that as a lover of straight blues..
How can you not love that man?
Thanks texasp1, I was at this taping of the arsenio hall show and experience SRV and was hooked. I was an 8th grader!
1:45 the way he roared into that one 🤘🔥👌
Stevie was so humble person! so rare!!

Doyle Bramhall Sr. wrote this with Stevie.. RIP Doyle, too. Whatta jam !
The greater the individual, the less they fear anything. Stevie was absolutely one of the greatest...so he had to fear no one.
Double Trouble were so tight. Locked in. Great stuff! SRV was a hero to me.
Listen to Stevie give his homage to the Great Blue men that influenced him. That is why is is so great, gone but never forgotten.
I didnt knock. I just came to this and had no idea he did the Arsenio Hall show., Sweet mercy. Thank you for posting . Bless ya Stevie♥
Great historical document. Thanks for posting.
Amazing how shy he seems during interviews. Put a guitar on him......and BOOOM! Love me some SRV!
