However, I think this video is really depicting a civilization going through major technology eras, starting with agricultural (harvesting some fruit), then they move to the city only to be pushed out to the country by the pollution it causes and finally ending in space with each citizen becoming the accumulation point for a new star. I expressed this thought on another copy of this video but the video has disappeared. Mogwai rocks

The lyrics always had me thinking it had to do with a drowning death, but the fact of notes made me think it had to be a submarine, the only way you could stay down there and still write notes. Thnaks for the clarification though, it's nice to know the real meaning behind a song as amazing as this.

i think it depends on the bands preference maybe. also if the bar is open or not. also sometimes some shows start late and end real late so they dont want youngins out i suppose? it could be any number of reasons i guess.
