I always enjoy watching your videos, they are a breath of fresh air so to speak, in the coaching snooker community. I do agree with what you're saying, it does make sense. I think alot of amateurs on various levels struggle with knowing WHAT to repeat every time. You say, find something and make sure you can repeat it all the time. I think alot of players are not sure if they should try and repeat for instans having that bridge-length they used to have, or to commit to a shorter bridge-length that they have tried out for a while, Higgins and others have done it with success and so forth.
Guess the answer is go see a coach, but not always that easy to do depending on where you live and your ambition level. And we all have that inner drive to get better, and maybe I would have been better if I'd stuck to that shorter bridge-length, or that closer grip on delivery or whatever. OR maybe not.
Hope you'll have time to make these vids now that you'll be a pro again!

My own game has improved since following your advice on helping side. However, I keep struggling to be convinced that helping side "helps the white on its way", even without touching any cushion. Between 5:00 and 6:30 you showed the difference between helping side (left) and right-hand side. I did notice that with each consecutive shot the ball was potted slightly thicker. For instance, the blue (1st shot) was potted slightly to the right of the pocket whilst the red (3rd shot) even touched the inside of the cushion on the left whilst dropping. Even assuming all 3 shots were hit at the exact same pace, wouldn't that difference in the potting angle explain why the cue ball did make it perfectly after potting the blue, yet didn't make it after potting the red? Over that short distance, I believe the red was potted "significantly" thicker.

Any thoughts on titanium ferrules for new players who wouldn't need to re learn compensating for the throw? Any thoughts on titanium ferrules in general, maybe a video?
I watch a lot of snooker. The simple answer is, you're way too good of a player to not have a tour card in the first place. So the question is. How did you end up on the Q-Tour in the first place, lad? Don't do it again!
Seems like he just had a few slightly below-par seasons - and with the tour the way it is nowadays, that's all it takes! Martin O'Donnell and Michael White had the same in recent years
@@danielkarmy4893 The conclusion is he had a few below par seasons. But there's reasons for that. Are you practicing enough, health problems, family worries, changes in personal circumstances etc. Then you look at how you adapt to that. Are there aspects of the game you can strengthen, more practice, different coaching, diet, exercise, sports psychology. Michael White could definitely improve his game by eating better, exercising more and getting in better shape. In my opinion Holt is definitely top 32 standard and should never be outside the 64
Lots of good players have lost their tour card. Potting balls for a living isn't easy. Some of the best players never make is as a professional. You hear lots of stories about great players who couldn't play for money. Playing like it means nothing, when it means everything, is something very few people can do. Hopefully Michael can play with some freedom now, a few players getting back on the tour have done well.
Subscriber here! Amazing video as always! Just a quick question, if I put trace of left to top spin, does it encourage the cue ball to go more to the left? (no cushion) Does the same apply to back spin as well? Thanks in advance!
Yes. It’s all about trying to get the ball rolling in the direction you want it to go. 👍

Was that a stun run through shot? Do you do anything different with your hand on those shots or is it just the tip position and pace?
Are you effectively saying playing fractional running side with every cut pot ? Be it left or right?

It's baffling to me that more people on youtube dont talk about playing with a trace of side. Massively helps me.
It’s because 99.9 % of them have never played to even a decent amateur level.
How can they teach someone how to play snooker when they don’t know how? I think that’s why most of the content is about cue action etc. It’s all they know.

@MichaelHoltSnookerCoaching could I clarify something: using a trace of side is about the pot, and using helping side is for position. Have I got that right?
I noticed in your video with Hendry, you mentioned that he should use a trace of right on a left cut, low on the black, going into the reds. Is this because if you try hitting the middle, you may accidentally put left hand side on and throw the white off the aim line, and a trace of right hand side should be put on because its going to the right anyway, so it won't deviate too much? Or is there another reason?

Pretty much is right ,no one hits the ball absolutely dead centre ,bit like the golf shot when you hit a complete dead centre perfect straight down the middle shots it’s a fluke ,snookers the same .when you’ve been playing a long time your brain compensates for the shot ,that’s why long potting is difficult as the miss ratio is higher at distance .

I didn’t drop off because the shootout points came off. I dropped off because I lost matches I normally would have won.
