Minimize your chances for getting banned for building under the map, some extra tips: 1. Like Moonlight Cowboy mentions, don't place any resource collectors or plants on farmable dirt tiles underground. 2. Place your camp far away from major traffic points/popular camp spots. 3. Remove entry point (symptomatic, alien pod, bass, anything that looks like possible trap-camp entrance) when you leave. Or hide it under some blanket/monument. 4. Don't join public teams when you build. 5. Hide your camp location icon on the global map. 6. Don't submit underground camps into "Best Builds". 7. Feel extra safe by building underground camp within own shelter. 8. Don't place allies, turrets or anything that might explicitly highlight your username on the collected footage/screenshots while building underground. 9. Don't place vending machines underground. Sounds like an overkill? Might be, but 20 reports is all it takes to get your account erased, especially with new Zenimax terms of service at play. And there are always people happy to report you for "harassment" out of boredom/jealousy/interference with their camp location. What's even worse, Beth's support agents sometimes are pretty trigger happy and might not have any desire to dive into details after certain report count is reached. The less accusation griefers might accumulate against your camp, the better your chances to glide through the ongoing dispute you might not even know about. Over the course of 4 years, none of my camps were harmed, yet. But friends building in the sky above Whitesprings and nearby that train station were not as lucky. As someone who enjoys building exclusively underground, I wish Bethesda would announce this option as officially allowed, as long as certain terms and conditions are met. Especially because submitted underground/merge builds are frequently leading on their Discord contests. Cowboy, you are always an inspiration and a great teacher. Take care and wish you well!
So the single most important reason I wanted to try to build underground is apparently your most important thing to not do...lol. I simply wanted to hide the obnoxious resource items so I could keep the above ground build looking clean and immersive. :(
There are some workarounds to tone down those obnoxious crops: 1. Blend crops with landscape and camp surroundings. Keep them scattered around. Looks okay, but bad for farming efficiency. Works well if one needs to have a huge variety of flora or occasionally needs to cook intricate recipes. 2. Keep as few crops as possible and go wild with crafting turbofert grenades. It takes nuclear material and fertilizer to craft. Hunting radstags/various animals with plasmacaster and butcher's bounty perk is surely a way to seamlessly stack up on resources for ramping up mass turbofert production and getting loaded on crops without risking account security. 3. Having another quick-shift farm-camp nearby your main camp might also work. When your main camp moves, you can change your farm location as well. All those crops will be safely stored within the build budget. 4. Consider growing your in-game plants on farmable dirt tiles in the attic. 100% legal option, while still keeps the grass out of sight. As far as I'm aware, the issue with resources is not about greenery messing up with server/netcode. Core reason for getting banned is a pile of reports from griefers.
@@andrzejkostyuk Thanks for the response. My gripe isn't with the crops, they actually fit my style fine. I have a bit of a rundown farm house vibe that fits in with the surroundings. I just don't like some of the other stuff that looks all futuristic and out of place to me.
And a couple of extra notes regarding "building underground within shelter": 1. Building underground and dropmerging stuff within private shelter is ~x5 times more tricky than on public world, yet it works. Within "Abandoned mine" - 100%, tested multiple times. 2. Don't hesitate to place your pressure plate high on thin air. The higher you place it, the easier it will get to dropmerge your . 3. Use as an anchor for your dropmerge entry group. 3. Lightbox/Worldbox underneath private shelter is pitch black. 4. Object-collision with the ground in private world is very unforgiving. Plus you don't have a camp module to lift stuff up. You may have to hover over 30% of shelter space to finally see where your entry group sinks well. 5. Objects (symptomatic, alien stasis pod) must be sunk deeply and thoroughly. Otherwise the ground itself will be an indicator for "furniture entry blocked". 6. "Foundation, stair-drop and bass" almost never works for building underground in shelters. 7. Antique punch bag is also a good candidate for entry group. 8. There are some other dropmerging nuances that tend to work differently in shelters. 9. Stair Post foundation and Moonlight Cowboy's frequent emphasis on using roofs instead of floors, on certain occasions, go from "optional" to "mandatory" while building underground camp within private shelter. Without these tricks, entire endeavor would probably halt. 10. Plenty of stairs can be placed with no extra foundations within shelter's underground limbo once you've dug deep enough. 11. If one might be somewhat prone to seizures or diagnosed accordingly, please don't turn on pip-boy light within private shelter limbo. GPU fry goes much harder than gauss minigun splash.
I love seeing this, I really like building underground but I only use it to place items or do walls that sticks up through a foundation etc. Also your little jokes throughout the video and the laugh at the cooking station. Golden 😂
I really try and add some extra fun to some of my longer videos. Otherwise I feel that I lose people in the rhetoric. Must of my underground building is fine for the same reason as you. But every so often, I like to give it a go. Thanks for stopping by to check out my little slice of FO76 building. 🥰
Great video Moonlight, super helpful, I don't like building structures underground but use it to make a "floor" to raise up decorations etc(like the little bridge in your Solitary Bridge camp) I'm sorry to see you step away from the top5 but as a judge but I hope that it means I get to see camps from you and more great videos like this!
I rarely build an entire camp underground, but I usually go underground for the exact same reasons. As for the judging, I never intended it to be long-term. I'm happy the transition went well, and I have the utmost respect for Gassy and the team. But with a full slate of projects in the horizon is hard to give the Top 5 the attention it deserves. Thanks for everything my friend!
Awesome tutorial. I've been building underground all over the map since 2019. The building in Charleston is huge but a flickering headache like you said. The building near Welch Station is one of my camps for the reason you stated. The only other building I know of that doesn't flicker while breaking into it is the small cabin with the dog at the very bottom of the Skyline Valley near Milepost Zero. What other locations like these two have little to no flickering? Been looking for others for a long time with no luck.
I think there is another one somewhere. I remember there being at least two before Skyline Valley, but then again I can't confirm, so you very well could be right. Maybe one of these days when i have some free time I'll join the search. Thanks for the awesome feedback mate!
LOL I don't blame you. I still visit underground builds. Usually if the camp is underground, there is a chance the build could be good. Or a trap. Either way, YOLO LOL!
If you're building on the sky or without foundations placed, you will either need to blueprint each wall shape and place them from your blueprint menu, or you will need to follow this tutorial by Jackomara on how to place walls without foundations. I hope this helps! ruclips.net/video/yZG3EXHgsag/видео.htmlsi=PZ9f0FNnskwYFMIZ
You sink into the floor by interacting with the item that you have placed that is sticking up from below ground. For example, once I merged the shower, I interacted with it to get below the ground. And if the rocks are below ground, they do not usually have collision. So yes, you can build into them if they are under the surface.
Im sure you know this moonlight but for those that are first trying this. Do 2 rugs when you do the pressure plate part with your shower or symptomatic. It'll give you a "floor" to stand on while you are building your underground level. I've died to many times not doing that lol

Thank you for all this additional context. Very valid points and good advice here. Pinning this to the top.

Super helpful! I've always been nervous doing this, getting things stuck, but I may just give it a go! Thank you as always!
Glad to be of assistance my good friend.
I've been dabbling a bit underground, but I had a couple lingering questions. This definitely cleared them up! Nice tutorial 😊
That's great to hear, thank you BMA!

@ I’d love to try doing a camp underground myself one day and I learned some new useful tricks from you 🥰

As always, amazing video!
Your techniques are amazing!! Who Dat!? 😎🤙
Who Dat!! Geaux Saints! Thanks for checking it out!
Very interesting 🤔 never tried it so far but it sure is really cool 😎 thanks for all the information cowboy 🤠
The pleasure is all mine my friend!
Helpful as always moon☺
Thanks Akiras!!
Very nice tutorial Moonlight! Holy Atoms batman! Lol Have a great day bud.
Much obliged my friend 🥰
Did you figure all these building techniques on your own? That's unbelievable!
Some yes, some no.
It was an interesting tutorial, but I avoid visiting underground camps! Traps... traps everywhere! 😛
LOL I don't blame you. I still visit underground builds. Usually if the camp is underground, there is a chance the build could be good. Or a trap. Either way, YOLO LOL!
This video is super helpful, but when I got to the catwalk part my walls refuse to attach to them, claiming they need foundations 🤔

@ That is super helpful, thanks! I guess I assumed from this video they would just work underground like yours did 😅
I'm on xbox, how do you sink into the floor though? Might be obvious but i can't see it lol also can you build into rock faces?
You sink into the floor by interacting with the item that you have placed that is sticking up from below ground. For example, once I merged the shower, I interacted with it to get below the ground. And if the rocks are below ground, they do not usually have collision. So yes, you can build into them if they are under the surface.
@MoonlightCowboyGaming That's awesome! Thank you my friend ❤️
how do i get catwalks?
Either wait for them to come back to the Atom Shop, or put in a Bethesda Support ticket for the Shelter Catwalk Bundle.
Im sure you know this moonlight but for those that are first trying this.
Do 2 rugs when you do the pressure plate part with your shower or symptomatic. It'll give you a "floor" to stand on while you are building your underground level.
I've died to many times not doing that lol
The concept makes sense but I've never thought to try it! Great idea, thank you for sharing this, I'll definitely give it a go.
@@MoonlightCowboyGaming Most of the time it works but I think the rug "catches" some times.
