"Minimalism isn't about living a boring life detached from reality. It's about rejecting society's version of reality and living a more focused, intentional life on your own terms." Joshua Becker, 2022
Soooo profound, thank you very much for this eye-opening quote and the whole video 💕

My grandkids have far too many toys! When I visit, we like to play a game to calm down. We all lie down and close our eyes and go for a trip in our minds through guided imagery. We all are going on a journey to different settings and we meet amazing people and creatures and face challenges in our way. They love it because it's all their individual creation and they subconsciously learn a lot about themselves. They always are in a better mood afterwards.

To anyone who is caught up on, "There's no way I can save $49 per day!"
That was a simple fact. People spend on average $18,000 per year on non-essential stuff. That comes out to $49 per day. Therefore, if you are average, you DO spend that much and you COULD save that much instead. If you spend less than the average, then you will have less to save. He's no prescribing the amount, but the principle.
Consider this: Most people spend a LOT more than they think, especially on non-essential stuff. Do you KNOW how much you spent last month on fast food/eating out? Or entertainment?
Track those purchases for a month. Most of you will be very surprised by how much money you are wasting on junk.
Once you've done that, figure out how much you actually could be saving each day. Prepare to have your mind blown.

The section about not having a lot of toys for children reminded me of how I used to play with multi-colored wooden Playskool building blocks. Did I hever have fun with those! I had a wonderful time making buildings with them, some would be considered fantastical. My mother even took a picture of me with one of them! What a great way for a child to be imaginative and creative---and nothing had to be plugged in or re-charged. I also had a great time drawing with a pencil on the pieces of cardboard that kept my father's shirts in the right shape after they were done at the cleaners. I also drew on the backs and in the margins of obsolete or surplus forms that my father sometimes brought home from the insurance office where he worked. I drew and drew and drew with a pencil and later a pen and had so many hours of pleasure.

I bought my two year old grandson colourful wooden blocks for his second birthday. I had hoped he'd love them after remembering the little boys in a kindergarten classroom I had worked in, trying to get into the wooden block "centre" as often as they could. They were a hit. We play with them every time I visit. The simple toys that use imagination are best. I never buy my grandsons anything that requires batteries.

My youngest child is 41. We made "play sets" from cardboard boxes. Another boy was over playing, later his mom called to say her kid wanted a homemade
Star Wars cantina play set. My older son built a castle for his boys with cardboard. I'm 72, when I was a kid, we had far fewer toys. I had a doll, my friend had a
doll, and we had some clothes. We survived. Tina, Al's wife

I thought you were kidding about $49 a day, but then I thought about what we USED to spend every weekend (about 250-300) on stuff (I was still working and we both had a stressful job so we spent money to "have fun" because work was so bad), and I can definitely see how that happens to people. I was eating through my savings too. Some of the stuff was needed, but a lot of it really wasn't. That was a year ago and about a month ago we stopped going out to eat completely. We're saving so much now. I wish I could figure out what I love to do. There's a lot of things I somewhat enjoy but I don't know what I love doing.
    Thanks for the great video!!

I don't think anyone here who is starting their journey , should rush, just take your time .And it will all come together .If we rush we have more regret I. The end .Even this weekend I have another 8 bags going to charity on Monday. You're so correct Joshua , I've found this on my journey , not only that I learned so much about myself !! Just decluttering daily for a short period is a good idea for me...Declutter 1 box/bag daily/ clear 1 surface, table/counter top/ night stand/ put $49.in savings * I like this as I am female I prefer Long Walks in nice weather.6. Turn off messages on cell...Eliminate one obligation you don't enjoy 7. Fewer toys does not apply 8. Wear Favorite outfit & evrything hanging in closetis your favorite 9. Turn off TV does not apply as I dislike commercials...Time is Precious! 10. Do 1 Thing You Enjoy Daily! Thanks Joshua!

Great ideas, as always, thanks! One additional thought from your prodigy, the Minimal Mom, about noticing the difference in a declutter room our cleared surface: Take before and after pics and refer to them when your brain adjusts to the new look and it feels like no progress has been made after all. I was shocked at how different things actually were when I did this. In just a short time, I'd forgotten what things *had* looked like and felt defeated. The pics reminded me of how far I'd really progressed.

Most of the advices you shared Joshua are already on going, but there are still takeaways from this video, which are:
    1. Removing bad habits that don't generate good impact to my life. Because I used to be knowing my direction in life, but in the spur of the moment I changed it into bad habits when I started going back to the office. So I have to figure out how to start over again to recoup.
    2. I am going to do what makes me alive and happy, which is reading self-help book. I will also consider reading the book that Joshua created--"Things that matter".
    3. I am going to start exercising tomorrow and right now I am going to have a long walk home. I used to walk home with an earphones just to lose track of time and get home early. hehe
Those are the things I have took from Joshua that could immediately applied and I will see if it's working or not.

One who can continually inspire us to take it to the next level because one never stays put. I think even Joshua stated this once. So, onward we go in organizing and thinning out our possessions.

For me it’s more like a journey to being more and more intentional. And with that also being more and more my true, authentic self (and discovering more and more exactly who that really is Bcuz that’s the big thing...so important to really know who we are...or at least be actively pursuing that aim...and not remain so lost or confused about that).
TV lol. I only use it late at night as a “narcotic” to put me to sleep. And it’s not even really TV. It’s usually YT reruns of Forensic Files. 😅😅 I guess we’re all different tho. It knocks me out every night like clockwork, so I can’t argue with that. But also I’m not much of a TV person anyways. Music is my thing and I can’t at all listen to it right before bed or I’ll get too invested and wind up staying awake for more. 😅😅

I came across a video about “minimalism” several years ago where the person speaking was like “we can’t have too much color, so everything has to be white.” So many negative statements were made, I was impressed the person choosing minimalism in that video was treating their choice to live with less like a disease rather than freedom.

Well, I haven't turned my tv on for at least a month, if not longer. Maybe for baseball games. I'd rather listen to an audio book or read.

Great video!!! So looking forward to buying and reading Things That Matter, feeling a bit desperate as I can't seem to find anywhere in NZ/New Zealand that can get it shipped here any sooner than July😪😪. I have considered audio book but a physical book is best for me as I like to re-read areas I am working on (actually I will re-read the whole book several times).. I also get sleepy with audio only. Ahhhh, maybe I could do both, Audio book now and physical book in July 🙄.

Have you looked into services that will receive items for you in the US and then repackage them for you (to eliminate that common wasted space in the box) and ship them to you? I don’t know what they’re called, but I heard about it on another channel.

Hi Joshua - great video and words of wisdom. After living in the same house for 30 years, we have a lot of work ahead of us, but like you said, we are doing it one box at a time. Even the few things we have done so far are making a difference. Thanks for inspiring us and continued success. Love PegEgg
