The walls, it’s called “Lathe and Plaster”
Father and son duo - excellent!
Hey Noah! Hope ya feeling better? Thats awesome your dad came along with you. Nice quality father/son time. That wall is lath and plaster. Thats old school wall. Im glad you’re still wearing the masks. Keep any mold spores away. Good idea when going into a derelict/abandoned home, no balconies. Too risky. Great explore.
It's called lath and plaster. I've helped remodel houses with that in it. And hey! That's awesome to have your dad along! 😊
The vent above the wood stove is fairly common. My mom lived in a house where the stove was in the finished basement and there were large grills in the ceiling on both sides of the stove that even had fans to pull the warm air up. My house has a wood stove insert in the fireplace with vents that go to the upstairs bedrooms with a close able vent in each bedroom. The bedrooms stay very warm even without heaters in each room.
Same in our old farmhouse- the original coal furnace and later the gas, neither one had forced air.
The hot air simply rose to the upper 2 floors....there were grates in the floors in different places on the second floor than the first floor.
That was their modern air circulation when our house was built in the late 1920s.
I don't understand why people painted the walls in such ugly colors. The wood trim is just absolutely beautiful. The ceilings in the house have been dropped. They are usually 10 foot. I grew up in an old house that was built in 1904.
One thing about the farmer… he can’t say that you vandalized anything 👍😳 Already done😳😢 I’m sooo very glad that your dad was with you! You should take him with you more often! He’s very knowledgeable! That in the wall was called lathe. That is a gorgeous place that could totally be restored!!! The structure was still very sold!!! Loved the stained glass!!! Hate vandals that destroy beautiful old gems such as that which can’t be replaced 😢😔😞 Loved the original banister, doors, window casings, door casings & the brick!!! It would be ashamed if those couldn’t be saved 😞😢😔😰 Jesus was right about 1 thing, it did need to be cleaned 🤣😂 Thank you Noah, for a beautiful find!!! I loved it ❤️❤️❤️
He didn't even bother talking to us haha. Probably just wanted to see what we were up too. He'll be in a few move upcoming video!
@@NoahNowhere
Yes, I noticed that he wasn’t conversing with you, but just thought that maybe he was camera shy👍🤣
Security guard for windows
OMG I have the same light switch! Got it at a Goodwill Store years ago
Oh thats super cool!
Lath and paster walls is what is was called
Not all girls have a lot of clothes, my husband definitely has more! Lol
Very true, I'm just going off the girls I know haha
@@NoahNowhere lol, be careful you might get picked on lol
walls are plaster and lath. Kitchen was built in the original summer kitchen. Almost all old farmhouses had a summer kitchen with a door that separated them from the rest of the house to confine the heat from the wood cookstove during summer months. Stairway is oak. Has always been the wood of choice for stairways. Closets were fairly new, I saw new drywall in them, and again, like most old homes, closets were unheard of along with large bedrooms. Back then bedrooms were for sleeping, not living in like many do now. Bathrooms are both new.
In all the graffiti the kids should add "DO NOT VANDALIZE". Vandalisms is a sin too.
The wall structure is called lathe. I lived in San Francisco in some of the many Victorians and the walls were like that as well. It made it very difficult to hang paintings or wall art or shelves. The lathe tended to vibrate and have a bounce to it when attempting to hammer a nail into the wall. It also tended to crack and spider web when hammering into the walls. Many homes with lathe had picture framing or hanging rails a few inches below the ceiling molding. This allowed people to suspend on wire pictures and wall art from special hooks that would hang from those rails. This was to allow the walls to remain clean and free from holes.
Really nice house!! To bad it's sitting empty for so long
The strips of wood in the wall are called lath and plaster the wood trim on the wall is known as golden oak
Hey Noah (and dad) The wall construction in the livingroom is "lath & plaster."
At least you could tell that they installed a newer gas furnace in the basement which is a waste if this place just gets demolished.
The wall with the slats is horsehair plaster
Leaded glass windows
Lath & plaster were common building materials
Horse hair plaster too sometimes
Hey Noah, nice to see an old guy like me out exploring with you. The stained glass windows you saw are known as leaded glass windows and somewhat common in old houses. Not quite as ornate as church windows but the lead separated different colored sections. They’re actually really nice. Too bad those stupid kids wrecked them. Nice brick construction and beautiful wood floors. A step above your average abandoned farmhouse. Great explore.
maybe god is trying to get your atenchen
Wow it would take a lot to fix up this house. Such a shame. Love the brick. Great explore guys! 🙂
Hey Noah. How are you? Nice explore. Pretty decent sized house. I liked it. Staircase is really nice. I bet it will be demolished for future development. Thanks to you and your dad Noah for taking us on this explore. Stay safe.
Hey Claire! I've been okay, how about you? From what I can tell the home will be demolished eventually
@@NoahNowhere I'm good. Thanks.
This made my day 100% better and my day wasn't even bad to start with!
It's called lathe and plaster
Thanks Noah and your dad, stay safe.
Plaster and lath (sp?)
Good morning 🇧🇷👍
That is an early century mission stye home. It can certainly be saved and should be!
Hi Noah & your Dad, the pieces of colored lead glass even in pieces can be taken & make into something else or give it to a friend who makes stuff with colored glass! As for the iron fence by the window, I looked it up...called Iron Fence Railing Belly Style, just a Ornament Iron for fake Balcony. Oh you 2 were protected with masks for mold, but wear gloves when touching things.
Thanks, Noah & Dad for showing this house! Take care & stay safe from Illinois USA
They probably sacrificed a bedroom to make the primary bedroom bigger. Add the two closets and most likely an ensuite .....
Great explore! This would have been a lovely house in the day! You were right when you said they don’t make them like they used to! I feel also that you should never have to explain to us viewers about not going into a certain room/basement etc. I mean your safety is first & foremost and you are the one who can judge best! Again it was so nice that your dad was in this one with you!! Great explore!! 😁❤️😁
Hi noah. This was a nice place. Nice to see you brought your dad
You should find out more about the family original owners, and explain what became of them first before you do a documentary like this. It seems somewhat intrusive and disrespectful, especially if going in unbenounced. Very intriguing project though.
You could do it better; do it right, be more respectful, What was their epitaph first of all?
Really?
@@sallycollins2445 Yes, It would be reasonable to know how these home came to these circumstances, and who they belonged to..
Such a shame and waste of property and homes, that the community they belong to would allow such an unconscious waste of resources in the times of need that are so pressing.
I remember starving times in my youth, when there was an ocean of food just across the street from where I lived.
People can sure be brainless asses sometimes.
With this evidence of such nice homes just let gone to waste.
How did this happen?
Can we ever prevent this from happening again?
A lot of those records are not available and it would take a ton of time and energy to research all of these things. Also, a lot of people don't necessarily want to rehash their grandparents passing, or the divorce that made them sell the home. Or they live in a different country.... So many reasons to not know too much about an abandoned house.
When it's not afending to Jesus and truthfulness it's much better than some words and drawings lved hated so much!!
Here in the UK we stopped using lath and plaster many years before the US and Canada. I always find it very fascinating to see, feels very retro now
I hope you're feeling better?
Still not 100% but feeling a tad better
An older home that’s been updated a few times .. that staircase looks original to the old home, and the leaded stain glass window is too . Very cool .
In New Zealand we call that lead light glass. The different pieces of glass are encased in thin pieces of lead🇳🇿
I’m happy you’re exploring with your dad - fun times.
The wall treatment in this house at least the original section is called, Lath and Plaster
The stained glass panels in some of the windows, they would have being handmade.
As old as this home is, it might be a good fixer upper.
What a treat to watch your father and son review 👍
Liked and subscribed. Good to see old houses/properties documented to the world of internet before its all gone. Just ignore the negative comments your doing a great job, keep some humor in the videos like this one (and expand on it), its what people like and adds to the explorations ;)
Thanks so much! I'm glad you enjoyed! I try my best to ignore the negativity for sure!
That name shiprag I thenk so.noaha.
Happy to see Jesus being promoted than the other.
I bet this was a beautiful house at one time
The walls are called "LATH" with Plaster....
I hope your feeling better? Love watching your videos.
the stuff in the wall is called plaster and lathe....
Loved seeing the dynamic duo! I believe the wood on the walls is called lath boards. Another lost home that will eventually be demolished. Great explore and a thumbs up from me. 😊👍
Thanks Chrissy! I'm glad you enjoyed!
Lath and plaster older buildings
Lovely decking!
Hey Noah : Great explore with your Dad ! You should include him more often .

Lathe and plaster
You spend too much time in one room keep moving
Why criticize? Do you have a RUclipschannel?
Extended deck
Stud walls
Such a beautiful house.
It really is!
Kids wrote that so why knock them ? He cares how they wrote it . Its the message thats important
Trashing a house isn't right.....
Shit it has been a long ass time since I've been in here someone has gained some weight that double chain is taking over are you alright man ?
Instead of talking so much to figure out the story just kept moving from room to room please so we can see
Honestly, I think you are the only person to ever tell me to go faster through rooms, usually everyone wants it slower haha
since u don't give a crap, and u don't like christian writing on the wall. believe i''ll unsubcribed. not that good of videos anyway.
Haha okay feel free, hit that dislike button on your way out to if you want 😂
I'm a Christian and don't think defacing a house with any kind of graffiti Christian, even if the person uses words like "Jesus" and "love." Destroying a house like this is decidedly not Christian. And Noah said he wasn't making fun of the religious beliefs of the graffiti "artist," just noting his lack of spelling skills.
@@NoahNowhere just a troll anyway. Not a Christian thing to do, graffiti and vandalism wrong anytime.
Surely. These lovely christians have paper to write on rather then the walls of someone elses house. Ill bet those christian kids broke the windows and tore up the furniture as well.
