      Not against EV just against being pushed into them by govt mandates and told that the issues/inconvenience people have with them don't exist/don't matter. If it was "hey here's this product these are the pros and cons choose what's best for you" I think there would be less pushback/hate. I went from a lifted 2018 JLUR on 38s outfitted for weekend getaways to an R1T... I've never been happier. It is by far the most fun I've ever had in a vehicle. It is just as, if not more capable offroad as my Jeep was. I've done many of the same trails and was a thousand % more confident, comfortable, plus being safer, and in tech heaven. Lol... Congrats on your change, it is an upgrade for sure! I wish you all the best.

    When I was at Easter Jeep Safari earlier this year, there was a guy with a Rivian, and he wheeled the hell out of it. He had the newest version of the SUV whatever that is. He got some dents and did pretty well on the trails. In a sea of Jeeps, I was the only Land Cruiser in our group, and he was the only electric 4x4. I was impressed. I would get range anxiety; electric is not for me at least in its current form. I got a Gladiator recently, so I have the Cruiser and the Jeep now.
    Also... I am a first responder, I actually pulled a guy out of a Tesla that rolled, just before the thing went up in flames. The man was unconscious, so he is lucky we just happened to be right there when it happened. But that's another story. Just be aware about those batteries, if you get in any kind of accident and you see smoke coming out from the batteries you got less than 5 minutes, at least in the case of a Tesla. Not trying to scare anyone, just be aware. Not sure how the Rivian battery setup is, or if the batteries are any safer over a Tesla, probably not. I only hate electric Mountain Bikes! I would 4x4 with electric guys, it's all good! Safe travels.

    • @JustinBMcBride
      @JustinBMcBride  Месяц назад +4

      When I wheeled with Charge Overland last summer I realized I missed an opportunity. We rolled off the trail and he had more range than I did after being in 4-long for a three days.
      As for batteries. Yes. Like anything this big, it can kill us. The nice thing about the R1T is that it has received the highest safety rating of any truck ever tested.
      I’ll go into more detail on that in future videos.

    • @coyboy8107
      @coyboy8107 Месяц назад +1

      Rock the Rivian! Just Don’t park it inside your house Justin. Adrian’s experience is far from rare unfortunately. You’re committed to using an EV and I think you’ll probably create something really special. Hear me out tho. EV mfrs will downplay it, but batteries that are lithium based are flat out dangerous when they are subject to physical damage. Thermal runaway is a possibility after even very minor impact (even when the battery compartment remains intact.)And no, you’re not going to put that fire out easily. EV autos are the future no doubt, but as long as they use lithium, I say no thanks. Maybe Rivians are a superior build, but as someone who’s seen a few Teslas burn inside garages, I’ll never park one under or next to my family.

    • @coyboy8107
      @coyboy8107 Месяц назад +1

      Also, apparently I’m twinning with Adrian because I’m a first responder who owns and Glady and a cruiser… But man, if I hadn’t just bought my Mojave, I’d be scraping some cash together to make an offer on that thing. Dialed truck right there.

I, however, have owned Nissans for probably 20 years and have been making content for these trucks for the last 5 years. I currently drive a 2023 Frontier Pro-4X and it’s a great option for Overlanding and wildly underestimated.

    So did you build your dream rig to make content for money? Or did you enjoy the outdoors and overlanding and posted RUclips videos and the channel just grew? Right now it seems like you’re just looking for a way to separate yourself from others to make money (not entirely bad) and abandoning what you loved doing in the first place. Unless the whole overlanding thing from the beginning was just what you chose to do to create a channel. As for the successful channels you named, a lot of them had or still have Wranglers also. It’s not the Gladiator that drew people to watch. It’s the love for overlanding that keeps us coming back. As soon as we all see it’s for money and views manly, we’re gone. Hopefully your Gladiator finds a good home. That is built amazingly well and well worth the price you’re asking. Good luck with the EV being the focus of your channel. I’m sure you’ll find a lot of people interested in just the vehicle alone. I’ve enjoyed the channel in the past and hopefully will continue to.

      The challenge is why I want to do this. Pushing the range to the max and finding creative places and ways to charge will be a must.

    i think from where i'm standing is the "Hate" for EV's is more sparked on the political side of it. but the cool thing about the mountains and trails it puts all of that into perspective. a cool functional rig for what you want to do is a cool rig people will like it for your personallity and perspective. i'm excited to see what you do with it it will be aweomse :)

      Politics are a big reason I’ve considered avoiding this pivot. That and the climate conversation. I’m a tech nerd, for me, it is the tech opportunity that tickles me. Then as a creator, the built-in stakes of range and capability add a factor to my adventures that the Jeep doesn’t.
      It’ll be tricky navigating the politics, but I have a feeling it’ll balance out in time.

I saw one random video of a person demonstrating the auto leveling and the camp mode of the Rivian, and I asked myself, as an iOS developer who loves tech, and as somebody who is a creative as well as one who’d feel awkward every time I burned a bunch of fossil fuel just to get out to a pristine area- whether my plans made sense. Not sure why I wasn't as interested but you figured it out, you're right, they're everywhere and I feel like the "authentic" part of having one has thinned. These days "overlanding" in general, is feeling like it's about to jump the shark. The authentic people on RUclips are becoming harder and harding to find and although there is a lot of well intended people out there, theres a hell of a lot more crap! Thank you for your tolerance for risk and commitment to change. Just subscribed. I have a JL and an F250 diesel we use for exploring. The latter tows a 34 foot travel trailer. The dichotomy of owning/using these vehicles to explore our natural spaces, alongside of rapidly changing climate outcomes is an acute personal dilemma. I'll be watching closely.

    Oof. You're in for it. Here's my current list of issues with my R1T:
    AC failure x 4
    Suspension failure (front driver)
    Gateway failure (couldn’t charge)
    Broken axle (front passenger)
    12V battery failure (after 6mo)
    12v battery failure (again)
    High Voltage battery pack failure
    That's not counting all the small issues like trim pieces falling, rattling, etc. The rivian service center is more of an enterprise rental car lot--they have so many vehicles to fix...All the owners I know have similar issues...Good luck.

    First off let me say that is an awesome Gladiator! You mentioned part of the reason you’re selling it is because many of the other RUclips Overlanding content providers have Gladiators. Nothing against other vehicle brands, but I personally watch all of those RUclipsrs you mentioned BECAUSE they have Gladiators, like I do. I like seeing what the vehicle is capable of and getting ideas for modifications I might make to mine. There are a couple exceptions, but the mass majority of the channels I follow are Jeep related, like yours. if your other followers are like me, It will be interesting to see if your number of followers changes with the switch to Rivian as I am sure there are a lot more Gladiators owners out there Overlanding. Best of luck the new adventure!

      Haha, no sponsorship deal. I learned a lesson from my Bronco deal. What I’d love to see in working with Rivian is the excitement on where I take the truck and content I produce.
