Actually, if the talent is there, they WON'T be the same, there's absolutely no point in covering a song, as a top level talent, WITHOUT bringing your own interpretation. I often find the covers are MUCH better than the originals, actually. I realize this is 5 yrs old, but just agreeing.

Yup, no question, give Elliot Robinson a listen if you like really smooth basses. Here's a good example, to my ear it doesn't get any smoother than this, and it's with 7th Ave Band, Chris Rupps (Home Free founding member) 'new' vocal group (and they definitely deserve more views, talent wise)...Bruno Mars Straight Up and Down, a Capella cover, Elliot and the lead here, are guests. you don't like crunchy chords? i personally love those kinds of harmonies. they transformed the original into a jazz masterpiece. the musical intonation is so overwhelming in this piece
Tell me... how can you dislike that clip??? These guys are so gorgeous!!! Tchnical, you can't do it better! The harmonies are amazing, you couldn't have more feeling in a song! And by the way... there is NO ,,right" way to sing a song. Thez certainly didn't want to copy john legend! they did it on their way and it became perfect, they did a great job. You dont have to listen if you really don't like it, but don't kick that kind of art with your feet!!! Seemingly your not able to value acapella music.
I see both points of view here. I love their harmonies, and I think they were beautifully done.
However...
This is a love song, right? "I give you all of me, you give me all of you..." and they're sitting around a table in front of a window, singing. The words and the visuals call for simplicity and restraint and emotion, while the harmonies are anything but simplistic. It creates a disconnect. At least for me.
Like I said, I love these kinds of harmonies, but not necessarily in *every* song. If the song were about something sad, for example, these harmonies would be perfect. But this song isn't... is it? I can't even tell.

Katerine459 in my opinion there's not one way to enjoy this song. When I listen to the original by john legend, i have to think about my husband. He's my life, that makes me happy. When i listen to the version of the filharmonic, i think about my parents. I lost them very early and thats sad. But even then its a lovesong. I feel good, it reminds me how much we loved each other, and i still do. So it fits perfect, there's not only black and white. Lovesongs are made of emotions, and every person feels different
