Yes, but Hollywood showed him removing three rounds from his gun because they knew that most people would not understand what he did by rotating the cylinder so that the hammer would fall on an empty space in the cylinder.
@@johnjosephson9710 some reports say he knew the real owner had fired 3 shots and not reloaded, so he turned the cylinder back so it would fall on the spent cartridges.
@@johnjosephson9710 Right. Most people nowadays would not know that a classic revolver was always carried with one chamber empty, so they showed him removing the cartridges instead (even though that would be nearly an impossible task to do on a single-action weapon without getting noticed).
Lovely to see one of my favorite spots! There was a time when I was driving between Albuquerque and Lubbock on the regular and almost every trip entailed a "picnic with Billy" especially when my son was along for the ride. He'd supply the action and security with his cap-gun rig from the museum up the road and I'd supply the history and sandwiches. Oddly we rarely ever had company as most people never drove the extra few miles from the highway to see the real gravesite. Needless to say it's well worth it. Much thanks for bringing up some great memories.
Now that was an awesome story. Not only covering the story, but you showed us how it was done. Love the visual. Gives a greater understanding to us that learn by visual. Keep up the great work on the historic events, love it!! Thank you.
I know they don't get very many views( or at least as many views) but this sort of vignette history about the west is the most interesting content on your channel.
Wish I had known u guys were in town, I'd bought y'all lunch or at least an allsups burrito. We ranch just down the road from the museum and it's always fun to think about the history. Great job keep it up
I am watching the WWSD project, and I am hoping you will do one for the AK, as I think making the best versions for both of the giants in the gun industry would be both extremely fun and worth while to someone ho is starting out to get the knowledge of what the perfect rifles should be able to do.
Well Karl did sort of experiment with a what would Kalashnikov do rifle a few years ago, from the sounds of it though I don't think he liked how it turned out
Load one skip one! I've got an 1870s seven shot Colt New .22 revolver I keep as an emergency backup and hated fumbling around to ensure the hammer was over an empty chamber. Thanks for that!
Reasons I'm a Patreon supporter are your vignettes, IT security videos and especially when you had female presenters as equals. Please more of these. Who cares about the RUclips views, your patreons love them.
"Billy the Kid Outwits Joe Grant" ehh TBO doesn't sound like that big of a feat, haha pretty sure he would have outwitted himself eventually. Now Billy The Kid Outwits John Wesley Hardin or Wyatt Earp.... that would have been something ;^) Great vid as always! Thank you Karl!
He saw the guy was a loose cannon and going to do something bad, if not to him then someone else, so he set him up to fail. Billy the Kid was a bad dude, but he saw this guy was an indiscriminate threat. That he was then able to legally justify killing him was just a bonus for him.
Thank you Karl ;-) ..at this time, was Billy a civillian, a deputy (or a regulator), or was he an outlaw? Was sent Billy there to control the increasingly drunk and belligerant Joe? To mostly other commentators, I would imagine (perhaps wrongly,) the real-life events as they unfolded before the shooting started would have been a mite to a more than a while longer in occurring than is described in this excellent video's running time; along with usual bar-pub talk, enquiry, banter, light-weight jokes etc, the build up of this event could've been from minutes to 5 hours or more. Although January in those parts it doesn't seem warm unless only in windless sunlight, likely using shorts of licquor & other fermentations to stay 'warm'.. These bellow are my own erronous assumptions to some of the theatrical banter of hoodwinking Joe. [imagine them in an Estavez voice (or a want of any other,) in your own head(s)/mind(s).] *"..thats a mighty fine piece you got there Joe, she's well made too, I can't feel any roughness between the trigger and the hammer, and she has a smooth rotation too."* (while examining, handling and doing the actions Karl described) *"There you go Joe, back as she was.* (hands the gun back to Joe) *...that's sure a fine pistol for a... mmm,* [smirks slightly] *'a mighty fine man'."*
Is that Joe Grants original tombstone? It appears to be made out of wood. Hard to believe something wooden would still be in that good of shape after being out in the elements for 140 years. Even they very dry south west.
Billy walks over to Grant, says he admires his new pistol, and casually pulls it out of Grant's holster. Billy knows something that Grant doesn't, namely that earlier in the day, Finan fired three shots with this pistol and never reloaded. Without Grant noticing, Billy spins the cylinder so that the next three shots will fall on the three empty catridges. Just as casually, Billy slips the gun back into Grant's holster.
Because that would only be useful in this specific scenario? Humans are often lazy and shortsighted, I wouldn't be surprised if the only reason this safety precaution was so ubiquitous is because it literally requires negative effort.
I think it was just a bad photo. Here is a another one at a different angle. thenypost.files.wordpress.com/2019/11/billy-the-kid-02-1.jpg?quality=80&strip=all&w=1033
See I thought he took the bullets out 😂 either way it's crafy af 😂😂 but I have heard the kid was a jester iv also heard the character Texas rangers mccray was a jester I'm not sure if he was a real person or not I mean mccray but billy crafty crafty crafty !!
not neccissarily hard, but you have to make a little theatre of it to explain your 'interest' and cover subtle actions, as drunks can be 'twitchy', presumptive, prejudicial, quick witted in a tangentally dim-illogical way etc..
So, Billy the Kid basically just killed somebody with a Bugs Bunny bit. That's....actually pretty incredible
Hmmmm wow bugs draws a few attributes from Billy the kid now that i think of it
"Billy then removed a single cartridge, pointed it at Joe, and detonated it with his finger."
I love how you’re talking about Billy the Kid outwitting someone, and that picture of him is the least witty looking picture I could imagine
I thought the same thing at first, but then I thought it might be one of those postmortem photos that was so popular back then. I dunno.
It's the only picture of him I think
thekangarooboxer, I’ll bet Joe Grant would agree
He still killed the other dude lol
Not a very photogenic lad
Cheeky Karl taking the opportunity to show off that engraved backstrap.

Your presentation of American Old West history(and really all your vids) is professional, concise, and entertaining. Thank you.

Hello from over the pond. Love these old west vignettes. Probably my favourite of the inrange content.
I love these stories please keep bringing em
Short, informative and definitely interesting. Thank you.
Joku Vaa bro you were first.
Interesting. So that scene from Young Guns with the long haired Texan has some basis in fact...
Actually, yes.

Excellent as always, amigo.
Stay safe, stay isolated. 👍
I am sporting a robber-bandana these days. Now all I need is a six-shooter, some spurs and a cowboy hat to complete the ensemble.
''Oh, nothing. It was a game of two and I got there first.''---Billy the Kid to Milnor Rudolph in reference to the killing of Texas Joe Grant.
Love the scroll work on the back strap of the pistol, and an interesting bit of history from which was the scene in Young Guns was based on.

Snake:
And you're forgetting one more very basic thing...
Ocelot: ?
Snake: you don't have what it takes to kill me...
Karl, bonus points for the nice handle engraving on your SAA
But it is important to note that it gives no tactical advantage whatsoever.

As always very informative thanks

Love this content, very much looking forward to the US civil war era firearms content on its way.
Oh man I just noticed the engraving on the gun. That's a sweet piece you got man. Great taste. This is really awesome history presentation.
Seems like a lot of money to spend on a Cimarron.
Once again Karl you've given us a fantastic vignette! Would love to see a series with full length episodes!

Great Video! Thanks for taking the time to produce it.
Billy had started the Gun Club at Wichita, KS.
He knew guns inside out.
Some big brain stuff
I wish i knew when you came through Ft Sumner would have given you a tour of our Hemp farm/extraction facility and a brew!
I’m sure Joe Grant would be thrilled to know your telling this story to the world while over his grave.
Joe Grant: Look at my cool gun!
Billy the Kid: I'm Gonna Do What's Called a Pro Gamer Move.
Great video, I wanted to add I like when you do this type content as there is so much myth mixed with few facts about history.
That Joe Grant feller sounds like a real community pillar. I'm sure they were all sorry to see him gone.
I went there 2 years ago and seen the cemetery also the town of Lincoln and all the other historical places including the Tunstil store. Great video!!
This was fascinating! Please do more videos about famous duels and Wild West characters like billy

Thats cool that you covered that part of the reality behind “Young Guns”!
I always enjoy these. I mean, I like the mud tests, but this is what I really enjoy.

What you just demonstrated is called a cowboy load.
Great video. Some of us love the old school
I love the old west stuff you do!
Your stories of the Old West make me feel like I miss my home. We'll done.
Great story! Great video again!
First time i see Billy The Kid's picture in 720p when it's usually in 18,80p
All while whistling a sad ballad..
This is the picture that led to the belief he was left handed.
These old west history ones are my favorites!
There is a bit of history in the area (Otero County) in regards to Oliver Lee alongside Albert Fountain. Just idea for a later time.
Great video! I love this sort of content.

What's TBO?
@@johndunbar2393 To be honest (TBO)
If I ever have a kid, I'm gonna name him Billy
Damn Billy was smart.
He saw the guy was a loose cannon and going to do something bad, if not to him then someone else, so he set him up to fail. Billy the Kid was a bad dude, but he saw this guy was an indiscriminate threat. That he was then able to legally justify killing him was just a bonus for him.
Love these storys! Man that is a beautiful pistol, I need one! 🇺🇸
low key, billy the kid looks like he is getting dome in the supposed infamous mugshot of his.
Awesome story thank you
Woulda sucked for Billy if Grant pulled the hammer again

Why does InRangeTV sells stuff with the Yaranaika face? I'm not complaining tho.
It is interesting to think if circumstances had been different Bonney, what kind of person could we have been reading about?

In the comic book Joe Grant was 25-30. In the movie he looked about 40+
great story
A). Physically impossible.
B). Think.

How reliable were cartridges in this time period?
Very.
It isn't irony, it's coincidence that Billy the Kid is buried in the same place as the other guy.
