  • Ghost town Vulture City, Arizona was a small mining town that supported the Vulture Mine, Arizona's most productive gold mine from 1863 to 1942:
In 1863, California gold rush prospector Henry Wickenburg discovered a 500-foot long, 400-foot wide, and 100-foot tall gold-bearing quartz outcrop while prospecting along the Hassayampa River.
The town was established to support the mine and had a population of several thousand people. The town had a post office, cookhouse, mess hall, stores, saloons, and a school.
The mine was shut down in 1942 by a regulatory agency, but appealed the order and reopened on a smaller scale.
The mine's closure led to the abandonment of the town.
The remains of Vulture City include restored remnants, haunted buildings, dissolved ruins, dark mine shafts, and the Vulture City Forge. Some say the town has a reputation for being a hotbed of paranormal activity.
