- Mathieu Kassovitz's provocative, compelling and landmark drama - newly restored in 4K - returns to UK cinemas from 11 September 2020 to mark the film's 25th anniversary, followed by a Limited Edition Blu-ray in November 2020 www.bfi.org.uk/whats-on/bfi-f...

Simmering hostility and prejudices boil over in Mathieu Kassovitz’s provocative and compelling portrait of a Parisian housing project.
Set in the aftermath of a riot, three friends - Vinz (Vincent Cassell), Hubert (Hubert Koundè) and Saïd (Saïd Taghmaoui) - trapped by their economic, ethnic and community circumstances, navigate the escalating urban discontent. But, with tensions still high and the threat of violence ever-present, the trio drift towards an increasingly dangerous destiny.
Newly restored in 4K, La Haine’s scalding take on France’s social divide still carries a knockout punch. Beautifully shot in black and white by Pierre Aïm, this mid-1990s landmark remains as fresh and relevant 25 years on from its original release.

This is one of the best newly edited trailers of an already released film that I’ve ever seen. Actually, it’s one of the best edited trailers that I’ve ever seen in general.
What do you mean newly released it is 21 years old, people graduate college at that age. Any 10 year old kid can make such good edited trailers of old films. Even if re-release Gone with the Wind tomorrow it wouldn't change the fact that it is 81 years old.
100% phenomenal work here
Definitely one of the best, some of the older trailers do not do the movie justice
@@scoobyraj2732 he said newly edited, not newly released.
Agreed. Very well done.
The older this film gets, the more relevant is becomes. Truly great cinema.
Very relevant now lol
yes now again
Need to watch Athena. There’s a film and documentary can’t remember🤦🏾♂️
A very boring movie
It was always relevant, now we're just more and more aware of it.
This movies is what cinema was made for. Sending a real message through something entertaining and artificial
It's crap

@Paul Allen that all the problems related to multiculturalism have nothing to do with reality, jews and muslim love each others and cops are racist... Of course this movie is bullshit...
This is one of those films that educated me on life as a young 20-year-old, and it led me to keeping my eyes open, and my moral compass fully awake. CLASSIC.
me too, I never stole a gun ever again
Quit blowing smoke man. If this is what educated you on life then you’ve got plenty of catching up to do
I genuinely believe that this film is in the Top 10 films ever made. It’s heart wrenching, beautifully shot and edited, and the message will surely live on forever.
What’s the top 10?
this film is 20 years old but look at the outfits
Time is a flat circle
yeah now you know where they came from
fresh garms ;)
What goes around comes around, I figure ...
France has always been ahead of the world when it comes to fashion.
THIS IS MY FAVOURITE FILM EVER - SUPER RELEVANT NOW TOO

@【a.Beks__UNO】42MG This could go on forever 😂
mine too
Just saw this film for the first time. As it opens with that song... I know it's gonna be good. And also sad.
Coz all these years later, we're still falling and falling and falling...
It's always amused me that the 3 protagonists names are the actual actors names. Though only Cassel has continued into larger roles.
Said been doing fine
@@cognotouchpasmonble4527 you can see him in Wonder Woman and other foreign movies. Hubert had appear in a bad little French but popular show called "plus belle la vie"
I saw Said recently play in the latest John Wick movie.
Eastern Promises
as well as married Monica Bellucci, he’s living the life!!!
The time has past,it have been 28 years, but this movie still remains a CLASSIC and something that all people should watch and learn.A masterpiece,a film that must be shown in schools, with none exaggeration.Personally my favourite movie of all time.
🎉🎉🎉
That ending is incredible, haunting with style. La Haine is one of the most important films ever made.
More important than Rebel Without a Cause, Laurence of Arabia, Schindler's List, Psycho, Alien, Jesus of Nazareth?
@@jamesalexander3530 I said most. Besides you need to see some more foreign films dude lol. Also spewing out AFI's list isn't defining anything in such a subjective topic as cinema. But I think you probably already know that.
@@jamesalexander3530 Exact in this row, and NEVER FORGET Das Boot.
If, than you have no idea of film.
Saw this in the early 2000's, the time I discovered 'foreign films'. Shocked knowing it directed by Amelie's love interest. Still my favorite French film to this day.
omg that cute guy is a director?!! wow didnt know that.
@@redefinedliving5974 Hey he's much older now haha. Yeah he was the photobooth guy
I watched both films within a few days of each other, it was great
you stole my thunder word for word -- Have you seen Mathieu Kassovitz in 'The Bureau'? - amazing series, very complex topic and characters... Or 'Munich'? His last writer/director/lead actor role was 'Rebellion'. I hope he has more in store for audiences. I wish Australia had artists like him who create epic films like 'La Haine'. Love French cinema. Vale Jean Paul Belmondo btw...
Watch the french movie " un prophete"
Remember seeing this for the first time in the 90s.
One late Sunday night on ch4. Mind blowing.
Can't wait to revisit.
I missed this first time round 25 years ago, will definitely see it on the big screen this weekend @the BFI
Ha, I probably caught it at the same time. Remember seeing Kids on Channel 4 one night as well. Was flicking channels about to go and do something else, then ended up sitting transfixed for the whole thing.
@@theman2017inc The only thing you surely missed out was the dead silence in the theatre at the end. I swear I never lived such an experience since.
and scooby doo on channel 2
@@moussetache1815 ghost in the shell was still by best xp in the theater in France at that time. Not the same gloom.
Never seen this movie. Going through the comments really make me to watch it. From the looks of it.. I'm already impressed. Love you, RUclips algorithm..
It's on RUclips for free definitely give it a watch
You're in for a treat.
I hope you've had a chance to watch this film -- it's one of my all-time favorites. I watch it once a year or so, and somehow, as time passes, it only becomes more and more relevant. Great movie!
so, have you sen it ?
So amazing to realize that noone can overcome this film. Absolute masterpiece.
This trailer it's just SO impactful! So precise and powerful. As a film editor myself, I have to acknowledge and congratulate whoever edited this.
This is the best trailer i have ever seen without a doubt. No cliches, zipped excitement, pure artwork.
Heard about the guy who fell off a skyscraper? On his way down past each floor, he kept saying to reassure himself: So far so good... so far so good... so far so good. How you fall doesn't matter. It's how you land!
Exactly not everyone can land on their feet like a cat.
I watched this as a kid, and it was one of those movies you can't stop watching. I thought it was amazing at the time, and years later, I remembered enough about it to find its name. I never knew how popular it was, but i must say that im not surprised.
Saw this and Les Misérables back2back on the same weekend last year, and the end of Kassovitz’s 1995 powerhouse of a film still haunts you after leaving the cinema.
Man, my favorite source for trailers making a trailer for one of my all-time favourites... Funny because I remember scourin the internet two years ago looking for all the trailers I could find, never quite finding a great one. Thank you for that BFI !
The shot at the end it pierced through my soul
One of my favourite movies ever! Every scene is a work of art.
I was blown away when I aaw this film. One of the best endings of all time too. This trailer is the best that I've seen in terms of recognizing a film decades later.
Saw this in the theater in Amsterdam yesterday, absolutely amazing movie. Instant favorite.
This movie is one of the most universal and timeless works of art ever made. Doesn't matter what country you're from, what background you have, what culture you represent - what La Haine portrays and its message can apply anywhere. Was relevant 30 years ago (I hate how time flies), will be relevant 30, 100, 300 years from now.
This movie is really a timeless masterpiece, the outfits they're using are basically the streetwear style today, the theme of the movie also, still relevant to this day. Unfortunately people never learn, mistakes keep being repeated, and the cicle of violence continues, and the system still is the same.
La Haine still is more relevant today, than the day the film was originally released.
They should re run this film every year at cinemas. One of the best ever made.
When i was watching this trailer, the power went out, but the trailer continued till the end, thats how special this film is
Have you seen Mathieu Kassovitz in 'The Bureau'? - amazing series, very complex topic and characters, his acting mesmerising... Or seen him in 'Munich'? His last writer/director/lead actor role was 'Rebellion'. I hope he has more in store for audiences. I wish Australia had artists like him who create epic films like 'La Haine'. Love French cinema. Saw 'La Haine' at Nova Cinema (Carlton, Melbourne) on release I think late 90's, it introduced me to 'foreign films' and French cinema. Audacious and always one of my favourite French films ....Vale Jean Paul Belmondo btw...
Masterpiece. One of my Favorite Movies since 25 Years.
I am Korean and I watched this movie when I was young. It was so long ago that I can't even remember the story.
there is no real story tbh thats the genius of the movie
I love seeing good, newly edited trailers for old films. This one's just fantastic.
So glad to see this important film being restored and released again. I saw it in theaters in France in the 90s (when it first came out) and taught it for years. Very topical today too. Perhaps important for students -- and all of us -- to really get a handle on the 90s to have more perspective on today.
I didn’t think that English speakers watched these movie respect🙌🏼
It's 2023 and we've gone a full circle since 1995: "France has been rocked by a wave of protests following the death of Nahel, a 17-year-old of Algerian descent who was shot by a police officer in Nanterre earlier in the week..."
_'History is a circle, made by men who don't learn from their mistakes.'_ -- Edward Hogan
You just forgot to say that he had a very long criminal record, that he was behind the wheel of this Mercedes even though he didn't have a driver's license and that he almost ran over a mother and her stroller. He did not obey the police and therefore committed a hit-and-run while someone was at the window of the car, taking him with him.
love this movie - was a student in France during 90s and saw this
Magically done. One of the best movies I've seen.
J'en reviens pas de ce que je viens de voir ! Ce trailer remet La Haine sur le devant - mais j'me demande s'il a déjà été derrière finalement ? Ce monstre !
Amazing looking film. Favourite film of my childhood by far, blew my mind.
A classic saw this ad in the old village voice (im from the bronx, still there)masterpiece
Oh shit, then you know about Grunwalski's tale then huh?

One of the greatest films ever made. I randomly will think of some scenes and just get goosebumps all over
The ending of the trailer really takes me back to the trauma of the film ending itself. Absolute masterpiece.
Saw this in the cinema the other day... my god what a film!!!
Incredible Film. Brilliantly edited trailer.
25 Years on and I still have the movie poster hanging on my wall.

What a rich time for ghetto culture in France. This movie, all the great French hip hop that emerged at the time, Parkour....it all came out of the Banlieue.

I just knew that Criterion would pick up this masterpiece.
@@marichristian1072 Years ago. The BFI is far superior.
I remember when I had first watched this movie in my uni days, I had etched la haine attire la haine on the bridge of my guitar.
I watched La Haine maybe 10 years ago for the first time. I hadn't checked when it was released and I thought at the time it was new because of the subjects; violence, identity, youth. I was 18 and only just leaving my small town bubble and learning the reality of modern Western European cities.
Watching the trailer again 25 years after release, it's even more relevant now than it was then. I think you could release La Haine at any decade since the 70s, probably for the next century,, and it will be relevant.
One of the best films ever made for sure.
This film is such a vibe, lingers in your head years after you saw it.
when I think of what’s happening now in France, I say to myself-things will never change. Just like this movie.
More than 25 years later nothing has changed in the Banlieue!!!
