That was very powerful. My biggest PTSD was a front tire coming off and rolling down a street in the middle of a 1700 mile road trip.

Been in an offroad rollover. Happens so fast one has no time to get scared. It was an old Ford and suffered little damage. So heavy it took two trucks to pull it back over, Put the battery back in place and some electrical tape for the electrical and we managed to limp back home in the middle of the night. Makes one be more carefull.

Very emotional short film, thanks for showing the story. Appreciate the technically difficulty of producing something like this to such a high standard (shots, editing, voiceovers, coherent story etc), excellent job 👌

Roll overs are never easy. Mine was 26 years ago and I’m lucky to be alive hitting a light post, taking out a fence and rolling down a hill to land upside down.

Thank you for showing the emotional side of such an ordeal, particularly for a man. It’s one of the few areas where the expectations of society are more restrictive on men than women, but that doesn’t make the feelings, trauma, or PTSD go away. I’m glad you were there with him as someone who completely understands what this is like from your own unfortunate experience.

Thank you! And I totally agree. Society expects men to only be tough. But they too have feelings. They too have the soft side.

Is never too late, but Men's mental health Month was in June and with this video you can tell and show a lot about how we can help each other, How men we never talk about this and not even with closer friends/family.
Consider yourself very important person for him, because is not an easy task you took in your own hands and you developed nicely.
Thanks again for sharing your adventures and how traveling can make you grow up in so many levels we can't think about. Keep the good work

    I feel your pain
I was hit in a T bone accident 2 years ago on my way to work. Something I do everyday. The lady hit me at 60 mph + is what the police report says. I rolled 4 times landed upside down. 2 broken ribs a punched lung and a broken hip and had to have my inside put back together.
It's been 2 years and I still don't have big enough balls to go through that intersection

Been waiting all day for this. It’s now after 1am Monday. We are probably lucky our landscape is flatter but I’ve gotta say, some of the long tracks like the Canning Stock Route and Gunbarrel make your offraod tracks look like a highway. In saying that, the risk of going off an edge is greater over there as we don’t have mountain logging roads ect. My state, Western Australia, as you know, is flatter than Keira Knightly’s chest. All our danger is stuff like floods, bushfires, and mainly boggy sand with some really rough road. We still have to be alert and look for the same hazards. Big rocks can cause damage at aly time. We may roll but the changes of dropping off a cliff is small. Al least you don’t have crazy Kangaroos jumping in front of you at sunset. A thing that would have noticed here by the amount of dead roos on the roads.
I’m not sure if I would be keen on travelling along on those mountain roads so bravery medals to the both of you. This was a great video.
Cheers Rob. Aka Perth Urban Bum.

Wow 2 years since that day. I know how you feel sort of. I crashed my motor bike and 3 weeks later I bought the exact same bike only newer, it was even the same colour. Once I got my new bike I had to make my 1st proper ride to where I crashed. This time I had one of my friends who was with me that day and my wife come with me. Now over 3 years later I'm over it but I'm much more cautious and nervous on corners. I'd highly recommend going back sooner rather than later. Make sure you learn from the experience

What a beautiful, touching and emotional road/ camping trip. Your editing and comments Monique were perfect. It's so wonderful to see you processing, and, turning a horrible experience into compassionate gratitude by helping another. So powerful. I can imagine the shared healing and connection you would have both felt. So well done.
26 years ago, I lost my FJ40. To this day I still dream about it, have flashbacks and nightmares. A piece of music playing at the time will evoke tears from nowhere. I loved you description of 'a partner' that's never let you down. So incredibly true.
Watching for close to 4 years now, You've grown, own it, and become an even better person through it, as horrible as it was for you. Thank you for continuing to share. Fantastic. Hugs from Oz

    If we're doing roll-over stories, I have a couple....
    1st one.
Driving along a gravel road, around 10mph, 3rd in a group of 4 vehicles.
Not paying a huge amount of attention cos, y'know, 2 vehicles in front and I'm just following their tyre tracks.
Get to a fairly sharp right-hand corner, vehicle 1 goes around it with no drama, vehicle 2 does the same, I start to turn the wheel and I immediately feel my Land Rover sliding instead of turning.
2 wheels off the road, leaning over at a nasty angle, clawing my way around the rest of the corner.
I know braking is going to make it worse so I'm concentrating on steering to find some grip and I think I'm gonna be okay.....
...and then the vehicle behind me tags my rear corner - very lightly - but it's just enough to shove me a tiny bit further off line and then there's stuff flying around inside the cab as I end up on my side and then on my roof.
    Lessons learned:-
You do you. Never assume that you're going to be okay just because other vehicles have successfully navigated something in front of you.
That corner could have been a complete non-event if I'd been picking my own speed and line instead of just trundling along, following the vehicle in front of me.
Don't be the guy behind me. Make sure you leave enough space that a lead vehicle can have a drama all by themselves without your help.
    2nd one.
I'll start by saying I've driven a few RWD sportscars and I've had a couple of broken propshafts so I KNOW how scary it is to have a broken propshaft flailing around underneath a vehicle.
Ironically enough, I'd already noticed my front propshaft was badly worn and removed it so I'd been driving my Defender, with the diff' locked, as a RWD vehicle for a couple of weeks.
Friend suggested we go wheeling and offered me a front propshaft so I could go.
I could see the propshaft was a bit worn (slightly loose UJs) but it looked okay and I didn't want to reject an offer of parts.
So, trundling along a rocky trail, downhill with a slight curve to the left.
I hear a loud bang, feel the loss of drive and realise that something has broken.
I press the clutch pedal, start braking, and the vehicle begins to slow to a stop...
... and then I suddenly feel myself lifting up into the air and "falling over" sideways, landing on my side.
(Turned out the entire front UJ had fallen apart)
    Lessons learned:-
Do maintenance. If I'd looked after my vehicle and replaced my propshaft I wouldn't have needed to rely on dodgy gifted parts.
If something looks bad, it probably is. I knew dodgy the propshaft wasn't perfect but I used it anyway.
Don't be afraid to say no. I didn't want to offend my friend so I used the dodgy propshaft AND I didn't want to reject the offer of a weekend off-roading so I rushed to fit the dodgy propshaft.
Main thing I'm thinking is that my vehicle was always repairable.
After something goes wrong I looked at the damage and resolved to repair it.
I always felt like I "owed it to the vehicle" to make everything right again.
I can totally understand how somebody might feel like they'd "failed" in some way if they couldn't put everything right afterwards.

Awesome footage, camera work and editing, but the DRAMA, OMG... Overrated/over-exploited !
The situations I have been in and survived and the crazy things I still do in my life are one at the time and always behind me.
We learn from our mishaps, of course, but do not need to overload ourselves with our traumatic past in this way... If we do, we are doing a big disservice to ourselves, our families and friends.

You'll save a ton of gas if you don't air down on solid dirt or gravel, only air down on soft terrain. I run 45 psi in 10 ply tires on my 4runner in the summer, 30 psi in the snow, and I haven't had any reason to go lower than that in ages because I run wide enough tires that I have more than enough contact already.
