The Sorcerer is one of the most mid classes in all of dungeons and dragons. it is outclasses by the wizard in nearly every circumstance, however there are use cases for it and I think they are valuable to look into Offbeat Outlaw today goes through all of the different classes and how they multiclass with the Sorcerer

So, quick notice on the Artificer multiclass section. It seemed like you really focused on the Replicate Magic Item infusion rather than the other alternative infusions Artificer grants, not to mention other options gained. For just taking a level in Arti, not as your starting, just for taking a level at all, you get light and medium armor, and shield proficiencies, which ups Sorc's AC by a LARGE margin, especially combined with some of the infusions.
Speaking of, some real highlights for sorcerer at levels 2 and 6 are Enhanced Defense (free +1 armor or shield, non-attunement) and Mind Sharpener (Up to 4 automatic concentration successes that trigger on a failure with recharging uses, non-attunement, Double Haste never seemed like a better idea) for 2 levels, and access to Repulsion Shield (+1 shield that knocks melee attackers back 15ft as a reaction with no save, attunement, stacks with Enhanced defense), Resistant Armor (Armor that grants 1 elemental damage type resistance including damage types not blocked by Absorb Elements, attunement) and the Spell-Refueling Ring (As an action, recover a 3rd level or lower spell slot once per day, great in a pinch in combat, as a mini-restock out of combat, or just generally as extra sorc point fuel)
Not to mention things like healing (Even healing word access through Alchemist) and other utility and support spell access on a prepared spell list so you dont need to spend your valuable sorc spells known on something like Absorb Elements or Feather Fall, things you want but due to limitations may not be able to justify.
Though I must admit, the fact that it splits your casting between both INT and CHA is a pretty substantial drawback, especially in point buy based games, and you can only have so many infusions online at a time, but overall I think Sorc plays a bit nicer with Arti than initially given credit for. I apologize if this was a tough aggressive sounding, was not my intention, just wanted to bring forward some synergies that your tier list appeared to not take into account. But perhaps these points, at least regarding the infusions, could be seen as an explanation as to how having an artificer teammate can really help sorc out just as much as they are an endorsement of a potential multiclass.

Here is how the AC of the Fighter multiclass breaks down.
    Let's assume a Dex of 3
    Mage armor 13+3 = 16 AC
    Studded Leather 12+3+1 (defensive fighting style) + 2 (shield) = 18 AC
At 2nd level you have made mage armor obsolete. gained self healing, and MOST important of all... You have opened yourself up to more magical equipment choices for the entire campaign.

      or fighter 2 sorcerer
to get plate (18, technically only cuts movement speed without denying spellcasting, so you can dump str and dex), the defense fighting style (+1), shields (+2); self healing (sure it's only d10+2...); action surge; keep proficiency in con saves to hold concentration spells better
tl;dr: 21 ac, self heal, action surge, better concentration, only 3 stats needed (con and cha; 13 in str or dex)

I do think that Wizard was a bit underrated here. Sculpt Spells from the School of Evocation makes AOE spells completely safe (fireballs being better is always welcome).
While you can pick up your level 1 spells when first multiclassing into Wizard, you still do have access to those high level Wizard spells. Due to the wording of copying a spell into a Wizard's spellbook, you only have to have a spell slot of the corresponding level to copy a spell into your spellbook. Your only limit is having to acquire a spell scroll or a Wizard buddy with that spell in their spellbook. Your Sorcerer spells can then focus on a majority of damaging spells while pushing all of your utility spells to your prepared Wizard spells.

  • @TheMemitim
    @TheMemitim 10 месяцев назад +2

I actually really like a 1 level dip into Cleric for Sorcerer, you can still start Sorcerer (to keep Con save prof) and get medium armor+shields and even heavy armor depending on the domain.
I like Order a lot; Being a tank in plate+a shield and being able to do fun stuff like to Twin Vortex Warp your rogue and your paladin friends both into melee, which then procs Voice of Authority having your rogue attack as a reaction to get easy off-turn sneak attack (that they now qualify for because the Paladin is with them). And if somehow Silvery Barbs isn't banned at the table, setting up Voice of Authority as a reaction off-turn all really helps scratch that Warlord/battlefield controller type 5e is missing.....I guess this is all about Order so far but uh....Other ones are good too, Forge gives you heavy armor plus an extra 1 AC on top of that, Tempest like you said, Peace is also really good because Emboldening Bond times per day is based on your proficiency bonus and bless isn't based on wisdom so those combined kind of just break the game for a 1 level investment.

The best Multi Class for Sorcerer can be achieved with a single dip into Hexblade Warlock if you want to burn a feat to grab Agonizing Blast. Now take Agonizing Blast and merge it with Quicken metamagics. If you stack Hex + Hex Blades Curse and Quicken Agonizing Blasts, you will be doing so much dizzzamage - you're basically a magical gunner. At lv 10 you can be throwing out 6 blasts. Insane.

  • @zachmowat8994
    @zachmowat8994 10 месяцев назад

While I agree for the most part, one thing I think you forgot to mention a couple things about the Paladin.
Divine Smite uses a spell slot to deal extra damage, which as a sorcerer you have a lot of. And with sorcery points you can recharge your spell slots for more smites. This means you're consistently slamming massive numbers on your melee attacks. These also stack with the smite spells, which while you only have the 1-2 level smite spells they can be upcast for massive damage. They ALSO also stack with the weapon cantrips greenflame blade and booming blade, turning your single hit into a nuke on a stick, as it were.
Paladin sorcerer is one of my favorite multiclass builds for this reason. It's very resource heavy but the sheer number of dice you can roll on a single swing of a sword is just the greatest high.

I agree that Cleric is... situational at best. There are some good combinations, Divine Soul + Life Domain, Any Sorc + Tempest Domain. Order Domain actually allows for a rather potent buff mage, since you can allow a melee character to get extra attacks in during your turn. A one-level dip with Twilight also grants 300ft darkvision that you can share with the party, as well as giving one party member advantage on initiative (no per-day limit, just only one person at a time)

    - AC 33 = Monk AC (20) + Shield Spell (5) + Bladesong (4 Headband of Intellect or good rolls) Kensei Weopon Defense (2) + Haste (2)
    *Descent saves all round
*Has Multi Attack and Quicken Booming Blades/Green Flame Blade
    * All the good Gish spells up to level 4 like Improved Invisibility
*Aid, Lesser Restoration, Freedom of Movement, Counterspell, Dispel, Protection from Evil/Good
*And up to 6th level spell slots to fill in with upcasted counterspells, Aid and Armor of Agathys.
*Amazing AC plus Damage Reduction stack = Aid + Armor of Agathys + Bastion of Law (Clockwork rechargeable 5d8 Damage Reduction)
Hard to kill, deals good damage and it's weird. A Wizard/Sorcerer straight caster beats anything, but this is a fun alternative that can solo a Balor. It's optimized for the weird concept is all I can say.

I mean if were playing devils advocate with barbarian, warlocks actually really good with barbarian since some of there abilitys arent a actual spell. For 1 lvl hexblade, you get a free magic weapon, armor of agathys and hexblades curse
Fun fact, armor of agathys isnt concentration so if you cast before rage it will stick. Additionaly 3 lvls will give you 2nd lvl spells for utility/upcasted armor of agathys, and pact of the blade.
    If were talking other subclasses
Fiendlock lets you kill people and get temp hp
And undeadlocks form of dread is pretty solid.
Plus, once your 5th lvl warlock you get acsess to eldritch smite.
If were going a lvl 20 character,15 barb and 5 in hexblade, fiend or undeadlock is actually not completely bad. Hell if you really want to be evil with armor of agathys take sentinel and force enemys to stay in melee.
Plus if you have to hit at a distance before rage, eldritch blast is amazing

  • @badwolf3618

Yo, the Artificer can have two infusions at level 2. Pick Mind Sharpener (you can choose to succeed on a Concentration save that you failed, 4 times per long rest) and either Enhanced Defense (+1 to AC) or Enhanced Arcane Focus (+1 to spell attack rolls). You would 3 spells from the Artificer spell list, and you could pick spells that don't rely on the spellcasting modifier so you don't need to worry about your INT score.
Being able to autosave 4 Concentration saves per long rest just nuts. And getting the medium armor proficiency and then adding Enhanced Defense to it gives you up to 18 AC assuming your Dex mod is at least +2. Being able to auto Concentration saves and having a higher AC to reduce how often you take damage from attacks combined together makes it much easier to maintain concentration on really powerful spells while being closer to the enemies.
Sorry, I just love the Artificer so much. Any full caster would benefit from a 2 level dip into Artificer. Hell a 3 level dip gives you the Armorer subclass, which allows you to be proficient in heavy armor and also wear it without meeting the STR requirement, which would increase your AC up to 19 assuming you have Plate Armor. Or you could do the Artillerist subclass and get the mothafuckin Eldritch Cannon (2d8 damage as a bonus action for one hour, can make one again using any spell slot).

    • @OffbeatOutlaw

The concentration saves are nice, however sorcerer already has proficiency, if you take variant human you can get warcaster by level 1. The armor is also nice and maybe it’s better than where I put it, but the concentration saves isn’t a great argument for sorcerer.

  • @Olav_Hansen

I don't think wizard sorcerer deserves A if cleric sorcerer does not.
Healing word, guidance, heavy armor (half of the clerics gives heavy the others medium), shields, a channel divinity and it doesn't ruin your spell progression.
Sorcerers usually don't have over 16 dex until reaaallly high levels, meaning they have 16 ac with mage armor. Heavy armor and a shield means 20ac, if you are a forge cleric you can completely forego the 'shield' spell for the +5 ac.

    • @OffbeatOutlaw
      @OffbeatOutlaw  10 месяцев назад

The shield spell is always worth it. With point buy you can get a 16 dex by level 5 with an 18 charisma. By level 6 you pick up wizard and now you have the shield spell giving you a potential 21 ac this frees up more spell slots to be taken by damage spells for the sorcerer. If your ac improves by increasing your dex you can get up to an 18/23 ac.

@@OffbeatOutlaw Divine Soul is one subclass, and, especially with how it has only one bonus spell, but a 50% bigger spell list ( excluding cantrips ), it is not as good as the Tasha ones. And with a minimum of 2 bonus spells, a 1-level dip in Cleric could even be decent on a Divine Souls, with how it takes a bit of pressure from the Sorcerer spells known.
And no, there is nothing that can give you heavy armor through a 1-level dip if it's not taken at first-level, and nothing can do both that and preserve spell slot progression. Though the other one that can give you heavy armor and preserve your Con save proficiency is Fighter, which is an extremely good multiclass in its own right if taken one or two levels further.
If you just want medium armor and shields and are not choosing your first level, Hexblade and Paladin are better, probably also Fighter, with Cleric being between them and Artificer, yes, but Cleric still isn't bad. Actually i think that Ranger sorcerer can be at least High B tier, any class with extra attack can benefit greatly from quicken spell so they can almost double their action economy even with lower level spells it's worth it. Also Ranger have a very solid spell list that can seriously be game changing. Summon Spiritual Beast (or what's called the summon spell from tasha) is very good both as summon and utility since it allows you to Summon the beast of air that can effectively carry you letting you fly (with a 2nd level spell slot) it's a worse than the fly spell but still solid and you can get tons of use with it. As a half caster you get a reasonable amount of spell slots. Than there is Pass without traces that is bonkers especially with subtle spells that opens a lot of possibilities you could arrange prepared actions and cast of Subtle Minor illusion (Or really any spell that could work as a distraction) followed by a subtle Pass without traces as prepared action and than the Hide action you can easily let your whole party vanish during a social encounter (if played smartly), on top of that you get expertise so you almost can't fail a stealth check. A Sorcerer Ranger can easily be one of the most versatile combinations of class in the game and i'm paying one in an Eberron Campaign and it's doing really well, he doesn't have the highest numbers but his versatility and utility are insane even without any subclass. A Ranger with Shield, silvery barbs,Shadow Blade, Misty Step, Quickened Tasha's Mind Whip, Quickened Spike Growth is just a straight up better version of the ranger no matter if you are a swarmkeeper, Drake Warden, Feywild, Hunter not even counting the Gloom Stalker that would be insane with blind fighting. This combo of classes is really understimated because he does not shines in the numbers but in the sheer possibilities it opens up , i think that if you make a Ranger/Sorcerer fight against a Sorcadin if the Ranger/Sorcerer (Sanger?Rorcerer?) plays like a guerrilla fighter wearing the paladin down abusing positioning and pass without trace the paladin would lose most of the time if the fight it's in an actual enviroment and not a white room and even in a white room you just don't abuse pass without trace but the Beast of air to let you stay away from melee range.

Why would you use dex build for a sorcerer/paladin. Just take paladin at level 1 to get heavy armor proficiency. Then you can wear plate armor and use the objectively better strength weapons. I would argue that you are still a sorcer who multiclassed into paladin (not the other way around) as long as most of your levels for most of the game are in sorcerer.

    • @OffbeatOutlaw

Because if you multivlass into paladin then you get the medium armor and if you focus dex this helps initiative and your AC. Strength weapons aren’t objectively better as long as the rapier exists. In order to get the good armor you need to invest heavily in strength (15 is a lot for a sorcerer) whereas if you invested in dex it’s easier to justify.

Yo can we have druid or ranger next on these, they consistently rank low and feel useless to a degree

As multiclasses they are typically weak, as classes on their own they are quite strong

The only casters that are good with barbarian are Druid and artificer (if you count that as a caster )
and for the Druid one you literally need to take the non casters subclass

Its like if you were a fighter, but got less attacks and damage then a fighter... so basically palidans in every other eddition.. or rangers.

Paladins and rangers get a pass because of spell casting. Monks tho…

Sure, Sorcerers are just bad Wizards, but Wizards are batshit broken so being a bad version of that is still more powerful than 90% of the shit in the game lmao

I thrive in the world where I can take shitty ideas and make them work. Thanks for the low tier thoughts. I’m off.
