I really enjoy the character of Sheldon's mom. If Sheldon was raised by Leonard's mother he would have probably lacked the social skills that lead to him meeting his wife, close friends and any insights they inspired in him to win the Nobel prize.
I love the actresses playing the moms in this scene. Leonard's mom was on Cybil with Cybil Sheraton for many years and was absolutely hilarious. She's also done several roles in movies, including Addams Family 2 as one of the camp counselors. Sheldon's mom played alongside Galecki on Rosanne and also was Andy's mom in Toy Story.
@alice hatterz He's not far off though. You have to suspend logic for faith to 'work'. This does however not mean religious people are illogical, just when it concerns their core beliefs; in this case religion. Many people act irrationally when it concerns their core beliefs, but religious people tend to take it a step further.
He's not, he has issues. People even pointed out that if Sheldon was raised by Leonard's mom, he would have turn into a mad scientist because he wouldn't understand love. As emotionless as Sheldon can be, he still has love towards his mother or grandmother.
@@Nameless82284 nah Leonard doesn't have any significant issues (like early Raj and Howard and Amy and Sheldon). He's just very insecure, but that's soley because of his upbringing.
And now that we have Young Sheldon, we see that Sheldon's father George isn't really all that stupid. @@osvaldomadinor8538 Well, she technically can. This isn't the time when Atheism and Religion were at an impasse and Pascal's Wager reigned supreme amongst intellectuals. Science and by correlational extension, Atheism, actually has evidence that concepts such as Evolution are real and that the Big Bang did occur. Now does that definitively prove that there is no god? Absolutely not, but it does prove things which stand in stark contrast with the teachings of the Abrahamic Religions which most often clash with the scientific community which have zero verification other than a book which says that god says these things and did this. Neither have the final answer, but science is much closer.
It's hard to argue with religious folk, because faith is just that, it's faith. There is no facts to it, no verification and people are often stuck in it, so it is pointless to argue. I will say though, in terms of Mary's jabs at Sigmund Freud specifically, yeah she's absolutely right. Leonard's Mom being a Freudian is my number one problem with her given she is a Psychiatrist.

@Joshua Lopez I can't believe in what religions says about how humanity and the world was created, i can't even it process it, it conficts with logic, the bible and the quran are filled with nonsense things... and also the idea of a god makes no sense for me, most of the time i only see people using their God to spread hate...
Odd how the one spewing out their controversial beliefs in mixed company is never considered rude by some, but the person challenging them is....
I feel like atheists and people who follow religion pretty much have the same mind frame. I do agree that Leonards mom was rude and disrespectful but it makes sense.with that said though, I would react the same way as mrs Hofstadter .
@World Anthems 👏👏👏
I wish someone would shame Leonard's mother of what an awful parent she is and how she brought up insecure and broken person despite her having physiology degree
Marks Madmarktigan hey! Quite a late reply but I think both “despite” and “because” work. She treated Leonard as a personal project because she had a degree in psychology but having that degree she should have known better how that kind of treatment can affect a person.
It's quite ironic
At least she confirmed what a worthless degree physiology is.

Agreed. And it's interesting to me that Leonard's mom didn't have any retort for Mrs. Cooper other than expressing her belief that the argument was rediculous.
I loved Sheldons mother. She was hysterical😂😂
Best line ,"not my fault your mom likes me better" "don't flatter yourself she likes everyone better than me" ah reminds me of my mom.

Cool! I never knew that ~ thanks for the Google worthy search topic! 👍
I may be an atheist agnostic but I'll have to tip my hat to Mary. Sure Beverly is smarter & better educated, but Mary is the one with better morals than her.
And of course, morality is more important than intelligence. 😂
Believing everyone is going to burn in hell unless they follow a particular religion is what level of good morality?
@@djokerdevil thats not what the Christians beliefs are? Youre just taking it out of context. Everyone is destined to hell because of the sins WE committed by OUR OWN free will. "How can someone as enlightened as Sheldon come from someone like you?" I loved Penny's wide-eyed reaction to that. On a serious note, it's actually genetic, on his maternal grandfather's side: "Paw-Paw" was the only member of the family who encouraged Sheldon to pursue a career in science
I think a good comeback to that line would be “How could an expert on parenting be the worst mother ever?”

How can you be a scientist and a Christian at the same time? It sounds like you're confused.
I am too. I don't understand why people think science and region are mutually exclusive.
so you believe that gd created the world a certain way. me too-they obviously exaggerate both sides for the show. I have met many psychologists who dont talk like this.
Science is a profession. Religion is a way of life. You CAN have one with or without the other.

For a psychiatrist it's so hilarious how she thinks she knows everything about everyone just cause she's an expert on what FREUD said, yet she never has a clue about how to take a look at herself.
I'm not. I worked in a behavioral center. The scary ones were the arrogant ones. They were really good at appearing normal. But when the client walked out the door the charade was thrown off like a filthy rag. 😬
Also Freud is disproved it's like Sheldon would use medieval alchemy as a leading example for his own work
I can't believe we are still taught about Freudian stuff. Apart from the ego, superego and ID the rest is very how you say problematic..
I'm a man of science but I'm so with Sheldon's mom!

WeAreGoodButNotSoGoodButVeryGood why do you have to response rude or feel the need to. There isn't a reason to be.

It always pissed me off that Leonard never called out his mother on her abusive behavior and possibly even make a hateful comparison as to how Mary Cooper (in the relatively brief time he's known her) has shown more maternal care and concern for him than Beverly did throughout his entire life. Charlie Harper (TaahM) called out his mother for her horrible parenting, and even though it didn't get through to her at all, it was still satisfying to see him unload his totally-justified resentment in front of her.
The things is, most of Freud's ideas have been abandoned. He was a quack after all.

Yeah, with that tone and body language , I'm not buying it 🤣🤣
I really enjoy the character of Sheldon's mom. If Sheldon was raised by Leonard's mother he would have probably lacked the social skills that lead to him meeting his wife, close friends and any insights they inspired in him to win the Nobel prize.
He never even wanted these skills, the socializing ones.

Her name is Mary Cooper.
I believe he was referring to Beverly Hofstadter

Technically speaking they were talking about Sheldon - aka a man.
And Sigmund Freud, and Jesus.
@2:31 The way Sheldon’s mother laughs is so cute 😍
Learnard's mom is the best, the character is just amazing😂😂❤

Leonard's mom was on Cybil with Cybil Sheraton for many years and was absolutely hilarious. She's also done several roles in movies, including Addams Family 2 as one of the camp counselors.
Sheldon's mom played alongside Galecki on Rosanne and also was Andy's mom in Toy Story.
Interesting how Beverly's finally taking notes from Roger's theory of unconditional positive regard
"wow, when does that start?'"

I can't stop laughing, "Beverly" really nails her character and lines XD
Team Sheldon's Mom for the win!
Logic>faith
if faith was logic, people wouldn't have to look both ways in caution before crossing the road.
nope, your an ignorant foul mouthed git.
Same
@alice hatterz He's not far off though. You have to suspend logic for faith to 'work'. This does however not mean religious people are illogical, just when it concerns their core beliefs; in this case religion. Many people act irrationally when it concerns their core beliefs, but religious people tend to take it a step further.
Penny's facial expressions throughout the verbal sparring between the two moms....😂
Mrs. Cooper was fun playing Jackie from Roseanne as well. I just love her.
I've always touhgh that sheldon is so magnetic (at his on way) because he was raised on a suportive loving family.
Leonard's mom is really terrible, how is Leonard still such a 'normal' person if this is how he was raised.

@@robertpolanco1973 ur being pathetic!
0:59 the way Penny peels her eyes up made me burst out laughing.
Mrs Hofstadter is the mom who says ‘no’ to everything.
And now that we have Young Sheldon, we see that Sheldon's father George isn't really all that stupid. He's not particularly bright either, but he's definitely not so stupid as to warrant complaints from anyone. This is why prequels are tricky to pull off. You can't always perfectly align the canonical material that preceded it.
Maybe it's because is more easy to keep going with your life after lose someone whom you love, when you focus in the annoying things he/she used to.
People tend to exaggerate things.
Or she is unlogically resented from tje fact he died young, forcing Georgie to become the man of the house, as she delt with depression. Belittling George Sr. makes it easier to deal with ger guilt.
And that his mother was an awful parent to both her other kids
George isn't his biological father, just a father by marriage.
At comebacks/replies Mrs. Cooper wins! Every time she replied to Beverly Hofstadter I laughed even more
okay but despite Beverly's education, Sheldon's mom won every argument
Sheldon's mom completely destroys Leonard's. Beverly can't even get one comeback, she's just speechless 🤣
You can't argue with crazy. It only brings you down to their level.
You cant win an argument with a person with lesser intellect because they cant understand your rhetorics. That is why leonard’s mother did not bother to answer because she knows mary will not understand it.
She has an unfair advantage: the fact that she can't be disproved. 😂
