The best overview of Fldigi I've seen. Would love to see you do a "what's new" in 4.X. However this was very helpful to get me back up to speed on the program as I have been seduced by FT8 for the past 2 years but getting bored with it and the bands are super crowded.
Did encounter problem with Windows 10, Windows Defender. Had to go into firewall setting to aloud FLARQ to access. Something like Port Forwarding in ECHOLINK.
Followed your tutorial but still do not have anything on the waterfall. The scope on the bottom right shows a signal. The diamond signal level indicator on the bottom right also shows good signals levels, but still zip on the water fall. What am I missing?
If I'm swl and I find a digital signal but don't know the type does it identify it and start decoding it? Does it decode digital radio mondiale or weather sat pics?

Great video! but could you explain a bit more the reason behind why at 12:40 ish you remove bpsk31? Not sure I follow what the Reed Solomon thing is..and why isn't it wanted for psk-31 transmitting/receiving?
RSID is NOT used for bpsk31 (sometimes shorten to "psk31") and CW and other very narrow modes. 2 reasons. One, the ID itself is MUCH wider than the normal psk31 width and thus would interfere with surrounding conversations. Second, even with it set to not look at the entire bandwidth... you would still be pulled away from your existing QSO when it sees another one adjacent to you. Go to 7.070 or 14.070 Mhz and watch the psk31 streams sometime... and you'll see how close together they are!

hello I was watching the video and following all the steps but I have a problem, I use the SCU-17 interface and a YAESU FT-891 radio and when I frame the audio port the same erro is repeated all the time: port audio device not avaible, which this does not allow me to configure the audio, in addition I have another problem , does not allow me the control of the radius by HAMLIB, but I try to control it by RIGCAT but it does not work properly, could you help me in this situations 73s CL7YW
Fldigi is a sound-based software. So, if you can input and output to analog audio from SDR... I don't see why not. Note: with most modes you are using USB on the waterfall.
what version of fldigi are you running? mine is missing some of the opitions you show such as "show all 48 macros." it is not the latest version, but the latest available in the linux repository.
Fldigi 3.23.22.8, but I try to check weekly to stay updated. Fldigi for Windows changes quite often. I check all four of the basic softwares every time. Nice thing about the Source Fordge folder... is that it shows the newly changed softwares at the top... so it makes it a quick check.
Rick - How are you getting rig control with a signalink? I must be missing something. I am using a FT 857D but no matter what I select the check mark goes out.
You have to run a separate serial cable from the PC to the radio for that purpose. Look at the Winlink series... "RMS Express" video on "cabling and connectors" for an explanation/diagram.
be sure you get fldigi not FLMSG downloaded a lot of website has FLMSG not fldigi also my rig isn't listed under Hamlib how do you correct this also in the rigcat even on the website my rig (ft-891)isn't listed
I have fldigi 4.0.4 and it looks nothing like what you are showing. There's a row of buttons just above the waterfall but they don't do anything. You mentioned an flmsg file but there was nothing like that in the download and no directions to download it. Is there a manual somewhere? I'm looking at your video but I don't know anything about fldigi and don't know how to get around on the screen and what the various panels are supposed to display. I've got no problem with the menus, even multiple layers deep, but I don't know where to look to see if I'm receiving or transmitting anything. So far, when I click the tune button, all I get is a tone and the radio is not keyed. I have spent 2 days looking at videos and trying to get fldigi and my Windows 10 Hp laptop to talk to my 7300.
Bill F ... watch the next couple of videos in the series. If you want all the macros at the top of the screen like mine are, then that's one of the choices in the view menu. the macros video will show them to you. it sounds like the signalink is not keying your radio. Watch my "setting up signalink sound levels" video to try to fix that. You have to get all the sound levels correct to actually be transmitting. You should see the outgoing transmissions in the big blue window. just click on the CQ CQ macro to do a basic transmission.

Basically, if the red light is on on the Signalink... your radio should go into xmit assuming your audio levels are OK. Use the Tune button on Fldigi to check this. Most folks use the Signalink to do this if the connection to the radio from the Signalink has PTT. However, it you are using (or have to use) Rig Control to put the radio into Xmit... that is the checkbox setting "PTT via Hamlib". When you start Hamlib for your radio... the checkbox at the top has to stay check after you initial it. If it is not... you are not connected to it. The wrong comm baud rate is often the reason. Hope that helps with the big picture.
Sound like your jumper settings on your SignaLink might not be setup correctly? The instructions are fairly good from the Mfg, but I bought the assembled card. I switch from radio to radio and it's really quick to just drop in the correct jumpers by pushing in the correct board.
Hello, thanks for the video series. When I check the use Hamlib tab, the initialize button turns red. When the initialize button is pressed the use Hamlib button will not stay checked. I have the correct radio chosen, icom 718, and have the correct cable for rig control. I assume this is why the radio won't transmit. Any ideas? Thanks, Jeff
Mike m the current version of fldigi is 4.O.16. When you go to sourceforge go to the files section of fldigi. Open up the fldigi folder. And select the windows version of fldigi. Somehow you're getting an older version.
Can anyone tell me whether this software can be downloaded and used by one user to multiple computers? I'd like to have it on the desktop PC at home, and also on a laptop for portable work...is there anything in the licensing from the developer that would cause issues with setting it up that way? Would I be able to setup my callsign, etc. the same for both instances of the program on both computers? Thank you for your time and assistance.

Cletus Grissom yes it can be. Signalink has an adapter cable that will fit that radio. However be aware that HTs traditionally don't perform very well. I always recommend the folks use a mobile.
Discovered a virus in the FLMSG.exe file. Norton found a Heuristic virus. I know you mentioned changing the antivirus settings to allow the download, but had I done that I would have infected my laptop. Any comment? KF4JBZ Mike
Don't know what to tell you about that Mike. Haven't had any issues with my downloads. But, we do live in an imperfect world. Maybe it will get fixed soon... and you can retry.
There are many ham programs that will give a false positive to smaller ham programs simply because they are not recognized by the antivirus program. You don't have your soundcard configured in Fldigi correctly.

The Fldigi I downloaded is just a small box with the frequency 14070 and the rest is greyed out. What happened?
Why is the frequency in ?kHz? Is there a way to change it to MHz?

Can fldigi be run with an SDR for monitoring and decoding?
Fldigi is a sound-based software. So, if you can input and output to analog audio from SDR... I don't see why not. Note: with most modes you are using USB on the waterfall.

Also the Flidi I download doesn't have a waterfall...It is ver 3.4.1....wtf?

Everything works except sound level meters. I DL them cant get them over to auto start. Open for suggestions
