Why Mad Max Furiosa DESTROYS Hollywood Feminism | Review

- Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga recently opened to very positive reviews from both critics and fans. After watching Mad Max Furiosa myself I can see why, as this film was thoroughly entertaining and well made. However the best part of this movie to me is the way that the character of Furiosa doesn't fall into the same trap as most Hollywood lead female characters, where they are all just perfect and have no flaws. Furiosa suffers a lot of set backs and is deeply flawed but that is what makes her an interesting hero. So really Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga destroyed modern Hollywood's feminist pandering. All in all I hope you guys enjoy my Mad Max Furiosa review!

Your mistake is in thinking this is a Hollywood movie, which it is not. This is a George Miller movie.
Well... He did the "Mad Max" with Charlize Theron which was insufferable... Maybe he redeemed himself. Anyway, it has Warner Bros. involved, so, it's a Hollywood movie.
Australian! ❤ But Hollywood could take notes….
@EinzigsteEinzelganger half of this was funded by the Australian Government. And it's a masterpiece.
@@EinzigsteEinzelgangerthat movie was amazing.
@@BeGoodBe A Hollywood co-production is still a Hollywood production. And what movie you're talking about? Fury road? Mastershit...
Bruh, This female - led movie literally makes me hate The Marvels and Madame Web even more. 🤣🤣🤣
Ahahaha I know right!
Sucks to be you. I liked the Marvels and could care less about Maadame Web cause it was forgettable. Furiosa was awesome 👌
Yeah marvels was alright
"This female - led movie literally makes me hate The Marvels and Madame Web even more."
Yeah, that's kind of weird and I don't know if it's a good bragging point.
I hate She-Hulk
The Bride in Kill Bill had to be one of the best female leads in the last few decades. She wasn't perfect by any stretch. She was very broken. She was also insufficient to the task at first. Much like Thor in Infinity War, the Bride needed a new weapon so she could have a real chance at success. She knew exactly what she needed - a Hitori Honso sword.
She didn't do a lot of talking. She didn't know everything about quantum physics or philosophy. She knew how to kill and she had a clear purpose of vengeance. It's right there in the title. Her purpose was to kill Bill. And that was enough for her to proceed. It was also plenty for the audience to enjoy.
The very idea she could take on any men, let alone an army of them, makes the movie completely laughable.
Ya know, no one ever gives Mona Lisa Vito from My Cousin Vinny any love for being a strong female lead. I’ve been on a campaign trail for this role that Tomei absolutely killed. She was great! But the character as she interpreted it stood by her man, never tried to take the lead, never admonished him when he didn’t deserve it and when she did, she did so in private, and, in the end, didn’t know the proof needed to get the boys exonerated, her husband did, but he called on her to be a flipping expert on car mechanics and she wowed the audience with her knowledge, knowledge which did end up winning the case. What a woman!!
Sigourney Weaver was pretty good in the Alien movies as well.
@@user-ul8xu8sk5i Well, she went thru the training with Pai Mei, and you have to remember that this was a movie made in Hollywood. No woman, nor any man, could take on 10 drunk barflies on their own no less an army of dudes flailing their swords around. So, though your point is well taken, it’s also pretty obvious.
The Hemsworth speech at the end was EPIC...
It was! I loved the ending of this movie!
@@Starr_Apathy Yes... It was a bit slow in the start, finished good. It wasn't Fury Road, but good. Makes me want to see the next one. Hopefully not another 9 years.
Really? I thought it sucked and insulted the intelligence of the viewer. Like, "THIS WORLD MAKES US CRUEL IN CASE YOUR IQ IS 78 AND YOU DIDN'T FIGURE IT OUT ON YOUR OWN YOU IDIOT WHO BOUGHT A TICKET TO THIS MOVIE BECAUSE YOU HOPED IT WOULD BE AS GOOD AS FURY ROAD I MEAN LOL".
And what really pissed me off is; she comes close, off guard, completely idiotic, and he just lays there without jumping her and beating the shi* out of her as he should and absolutely could? So the final scene could happen? The REAL ending of that movie from that point on should've been him jumping her and nearly killing her, but Joe and his lot showing up after them and killing him instead. And Joe interpreting all that as her risking her life for HIS goals?
That would establish a connection between Joe and Furiosa which is implied in Fury Road. Like when the Rig leaves in Fury Road, it's a big event, and Joe calls out his Imperator Furiosa in the manner that suggests great respect and meaning she has for him and the community of the Citadel. Fury Road says little; but keeps implying a deep connection that both, the Breeders and Furiosa have with the Immortan; both as the cult leader AND as a man. And he has a deep connection with them too. He's absolutely devastated when he loses a child, he's broken, sitting on a rock and singing to himself when he loses all of them; he's INCREDULOUS when Furiosa betrays him. The final battle between him and Furiosa is loaded and hugely impactful because there's an implied connection between them; his huge respect for her and the disappointment she'd betray. NOTHING, NOT ONE THING is established in "Furiosa" regarding ANY of that, not even at that stupid ending which was the last chance for it. I stand disgusted.
If you saw Furiosa first and then went to see Fury Road for the first time; you'd absolutely be confused by WHY is Joe doing ANY of the things he's doing in that movie; when NOTHING in Furiosa implies any kind of connection she has with him; or any kind of meaning she has to the War Boys. She's just second fiddle to a faceless dude named Jack who basically just commands her to do stuff. When he loses a child in Furiosa; Joe just goes enh another day at the office. When Furiosa talks to him in "Furiosa", he just ignores her anh another cray cray. The ending had a chance to fix all that; instead it gave us a stupid long winded speech and informed Joe would allow that last thing with Dementus to happen, if it did happen, and he just wouldn't give an eff.
It's really weak and shitty. Weak and shitty.
In my opinion, that was the only good thing Hemsworth brought to the role.
@@WILD__THINGS Well, there are no wrong opinions. 😁
The best comparison I can make with the girl boss trope is to take a Steven Seagal movie like On Deadly Ground, but make his character a woman.
That is a pretty accurate analogy.

We need likable/sympathetic and well written female characters.
I agree with you we need more characters like these characters in this movie
It just looks Road Warrior and Beyond Thunder dome rehash with a female. Which probably makes it a good B+ movie. Anna Taylor is a fine actress and Chris is just trying to be Chris , for once.
And we need a lot fewer of them.

Dune was too woke for me, then they made Godzilla pink, now this....and don't forget, they made the Flash. They'll have to bring way more to the table to get me back into theaters.
When we think of strong female characters, we think of Ellen Ripley, Sarah Connor, Black Mamba(Kill Bill) and now Furiosa
100%
And Mary Poppins. Don't forget Mary Fucking Poppins !! (That was a fantastic film, and the sequel was actually pretty good too)
It's like what Doug Walker said in his review of Old vs New Cinderella:
"People miss what makes a strong character is how they deal with their flaws, their fears, their turmoils, their troubles that get in the way, that's what makes them relatable. But this (live-action) Cinderella doesn't have any flaws. At least, none that they'll acknowledge. You could argue she's too passive, but what does she do to solve that? Let someone else save the day and not even try!
This (animated) Cinderella at least gave a shit, because while having a strong character be strong is good, it's more important to have them interesting first."
What we need is another mad max game
People shit on that first game. I loved it!
Hell yeah that would be awesome
@@talonmage40k Weird to hear that, since I bought it on the strength of the glowing Steam reviews. I think it constantly flits between "Very Positive" and "Overwhelmingly Positive" because of how close it is to the threshold between the two
The weird thing is I've been playing the Mad Max videogame again recently, and it has a surprisingly good plot and characters in it - including Max. It also takes itself pretty damn seriously, too. I remember seeing a teaser trailer for it ( which looked _awful_ ) and, like I said above, picking it up later after seeing the glowing Steam reviews
The bonus irony is that the game was explicitly stated to be non-canon, even though it dovetailed perfectly into Fury Road and actually _helped_ that movie make more sense
And now here we are, and it seems like several chunks of the game (Dementus, Scrotus etc) have been ripped out and transplanted into _this_ film
Naw. Too much going in and out of ride just to collect stuff. Lots of wasted time getting in and out of ride
@@reaps912 Was it non-canon? I thought it was meant to be canon. But Furiosa kinda makes it non-canon, as Scrotus doesn't look anything like he does in the game. Scrotus is NOT in Fury Road, which the game explains by Max killing him. I'm pretty certain the game borrowed ideas from Miller himself, hence the reason Furiosa seems to reference it. I've read Miller has another Mad Max script written called Wasteland that is supposed to again be a prequel, but this time will tell Max's story leading up to Fury Road. I think the game was based off the ideas for that script. I don't think Miller had written the script for Wasteland yet at that time. I think he gave them his ideas for what eventually would become the Wasteland script, and they based the game around those ideas. I think what we'll see in Wasteland is essentially a movie adaptation of the game, which game was based on the ideas for that very movie, which hadn't actually been written yet at that time lol. It's weird, but, yeah, I think Wasteland is going to be a canonized take on the events that took place in the game. I could be totally wrong, but I think that's right.
U guys have to see this in IMAX. It is spectacular. There is a character who reminds of Mel Gibson's character. This is not Disney's trash female boss. This is a George Miller's girl boss. Completely likable and easy to root for. The cars in this movie is insane!!!!
Dizney is pure activist garbage 🗑 😅
Furiosa is more similar to Mad Max 2 Road Warrior : full of characters, politics, maiming, and gore, lots of blood and crazy people. Fury Road was a Buster Keaton race, visual, crazy and flamboyant. Furiosa is a cruel movie, with madness. Dementus speech at the end is epic.
I think this film is a testament to well written HUMAN characters. There’s elements of Furiosa’s story that cannot be disconnected to her being a female character (her childhood interactions with Rictus Erectus in particular), but otherwise her story in this film and her characterization overall is that of a child experiencing the most severe traumas a person can endure and still choosing their own autonomy in the end. Universal storytelling
100% agree
Smashed and grabbed? Where do you live? Not in Africa or Islam Country^^ But your are ISLAM and Black, what a Twist^^
LMAO how is this film a testament to well written "HUMAN" characters? Furiosa has no character development the entire movie. She is magically great at everything she does. Do you only watch superhero movies? Go watch ACTUAL quality cinema to see what real character development looks like. If all you watch is garbage, then food mush in your sink would look better by comparison.
You're forgetting Prey. That was a female lead done well too. It can be done right, they just mostly choose not to
nah i didn’t believe for one minute that girl could take down a predator
@@ThePorkchopExpress975 She couldn't even kill a bear.

@@ThePorkchopExpress975Granted that predator got a beat down prior to fighting her and was probably worn out then.
The film Prey would've been good if it had not been set in a apologist universe with an overdone franchise.
Hard disagree on the pacing critique. The amount of time devoted to really flesh out the journey of young Furiosa was PERFECT and made the later parts just so much more rewarding and meaningful. People having problems appreciating that need to stick to TikToks, please don't let catering to people with short attention spans get in the way of a director's vision for an epic story.
Tbf there was a few times when I was watching it and the characters would just stop talking and stare at something and the music would play and nothing would happen
Sometimes it made sense, but there was a few occasions it would happen and it felt like they did it to maximise the running time more then anything
Furiosa is scrappy, tough as nails and she has something girl bosses don't have.

Haha true😅
2:00 I was thinking about this after seeing Fury Road. Just the fact that she is beaten a lot already eliminates the image of a feminist character. In Fury Road, she even gets beaten by Max with a car door. But even so, she manages to overcome difficulties and catch the villains. Also, I think it's important to highlight the fact that Max receives a great tribute in Fury Road, despite his little screen time (controversy?). He is legendarily overpowered. He defeats Bullet Farmer and three heavily armed bodyguards alone, without a car, without a firearm and without bleeding. I mean, George Miller makes it clear that Max is more lethal than Furiosa, but he doesn't diminish her. He shows their fighting style and how they need each other to survive. I would say that Miller knew, at least in Fury Road, how to represent men and women.
I don't consider his screen time to be limited. He was in it throughout. He just wasn't the focus. And, yes, that scene where he wonders off, and then comes back bloodied, but none of the blood was his, was awesome. It's like, holy crap, what did he do? It just builds the legend of Max.
Thank you for actually watching the movie. Anyone who says that Furiosa stole the show from Max missed how Max beat Furiosa, stole her truck, drove it for most of the movie, saved them multiple times(including that that same scene you speak of, my favorite) and was essentially how they beat Immortan Joe. I think people are seeing Wokeness everywhere now and not just difference in style.
@@jackmuaddib3745 The only reason she succeeded in her mission was because of Max.
@@talonmage40k Exactly. I always wonder what he did with the 4 guys.
@@jackmuaddib3745 Exactly. I'm happy to see a film about Furiosa, as it expands the Mad Max universe. But I would really be very happy to see a film focused on Max with practical effects like Fury Road. I mean, it's REALLY cool to see all of Furiosa's cities and landscapes that are impossible to build in real life for the film. But, it would be very satisfying to see, for example, a Mad Max focusing on Max and small cities made of scrap metal that are absolutely possible to build. Obviously, it would need a good script, but that would bring Fury Road's sense of realism and practicality.
The theme that bothers me the most in a number of these "girl-boss" shows and movies is just how overtly cruelly the male characters are often treated, essentially just being used for target practice. Seeing one sex in particular being deliberately singled out and brutalized like that in media makes me very uncomfortable, regardless of which direction. I do not watch things where female characters are being specifically targeted and abused in that way, and I don't want to see it happen to male characters either.
Knowing their place is something you just don't see in modern day society.

The heart of Furiosa is Australia's George Miller. A common thread of George Miller's movies as well as other great Australian cinema is quite a bit of screen time spent on characterizations which often include the location as a character. Many people think that a strong female hero is without flaws. And this is where they're wrong. Furiosa is scarred, not without flaws and bruised.. and yet she is still likable, because of her attitude as a product of the Wasteland. I look forward to see the movie. Next week I will go to the cinema.
I don't want to be ageist but I just think Hollywood writers under 45yo can't write a strong ACTION girl lead.
Ripley, the Bride, Sara Conner, Arya Stark even Buffy and Xena were all created by Old School filmmakers as is Furiosa. The new generation can write excellent female leads for comedies, romcoms and the like but Action Women seems beyond them. They seem to fall into the Mary Sue trap , only perfect women can be action heroes. This is really backward thinking artistically and politically and makes for an unlikeable heroine and a boring film.
They can't even deffined what a real strong man must be, a strong men normaly is full of weakness and can be desperated like Mel Gibson was in Lethal Weapon when he try to commiting suicide with a gun because he couldnt handle the death of the girl he loved, that was so strong, same thing for Ed Harris in the Abyss when he try to CPR is drowned wife, we loose our fucking humanity in bullshit like Marvell or Barbie, but life is so much harder and crazy for normal people, Hollywood is full of non sensic and asshole peoples...

What frustrates me about this film is that they seem to have learned nothing from everyone praising how raw and untampered with you could tell it was. The fact that alot of it was done for real on location. And have just opted for the easy route once again with artificial lighting/colour grading, cgi and green rooms. Fury Road proved that's not the way to do it. Somehow even 9 years later Hollywood still hasn't learned. What the actual fuck is it going to take? Do they LIKE never going outdoors over there?

A cinematic masterpiece that has left me speechless!
The time and patience one has to dedicate their life, in making a lifetime work, coupled with an unquenchable thirst to provide sheer awe and cinematic brilliance technically and emotionally, stands out at every single minute throughout the movie.
Apocalyptic genres are quite easy to enact, since they require an astute understanding of how humans operate on baseline consciousness. George Miller did a fantastic job at delivering this exact sentiment. I am overall pleased with the aesthetic cinematic treatment compared to its predecessor for continuity and not overdoing with CG.
Dramatic pacing and character introduction is given justice with sufficient screen time to develop their story arcs and finale plot. The wasteland is merciless and spares nobody.
Flawless execution 10/10.
I don't think it's as simple as 'looking at how it was done in the past' - there's a need to understand *the context* for the earlier bad-arse female characters; very few women will ever match a man's physicality- Furiosa never does - what she shows she _can_ do, is apply ingenuity, even as a child (without making her male counterparts; Max originally - Imperator Jack in this one- look like idiots) to a situation, or use other character's flaws against them, to avoid physical conflict (the area in which they are obviously weaker, most of the time) - of course, that doesn't mean female characters lack in flaws, but those flaws are things that _can_ create natural minor conflict, tension, or points of drama- which leads to the natural give-&-take within a good story -- as well as the natural weaknesses prevent them going toe-to-toe with their adversaries in the same physical way that two male characters would, at the end- meaning the conclusion can have more variance.
I enjoyed a lot of it - I wasn't 'bored'- but I think there were more than a few moments that could definitely have been tightened up- & there were other moments that _could_ have been let linger, but weren't -- I liked the character of Imperator Jack, how the two of them communicated & interacted in the low-key way they did, & how his relationship with Furiosa evolved.
I kind of agree with comments I've heard that the cutting of the 40-Day War seems like an odd choice- when it appeared that so much was leading up to it, & yet- it's pretty clear that Furiosa's story *_isn't_* about the wider war...
Chris was *amazing* as the lead antagonist- deliciously unhinged, & looking like he was having the time of his life filming it; it's undeniable that Immortan Joe was a sh^t person- _however_ , he's ruled over this area for a *long* while, tyrannically or not- however, the Citadel is functioning & supplies are managed, more or less- & he's developed mutual arrangements with the only other 'powers' - whereas, ironically, though Dementus had held his horde together, seemingly through sheer force of will- for who knows how long- & though failing against the Citadel, manages to take GasTown, & even (sort of) negotiate a deal to keep & administer it- & yet it all falls apart so quickly: the man had enough charisma to have *hundreds* follow him- but _one_ subordinate's subordinate not taking orders from him, in one moment is enough to pique him & hit his ego, triggering jealousy & spite enough to anatagonise & splinter Octoboss' {the guy with the black horns} group of them off.
And the denizens of GasTown are on the edge of revolt in barely more than a decade - he even managed to take the Bullet Farm, but he's utterly unable to control them; I feel like it was an interesting statement about someone with immense charisma- yet proves incompetent in administration -- someone who wants more power than they have, but has no real clue how to handle it & what to do with it- though it's also possible that his eventual failure has something to do with nihilistic personality- was he doing what he did, purely as something to do, after all his losses? Did he _really_ have ideas toward any kind of long-term leadership...?
I'm curious how they deal with the fact that she has to end up siding/working for/with the bad guy in Fury Road. So whomever she fights, she's actually has to be fighting for the bad guy in the end because that's who she's with when we get to Fury road and didn't fully rebel until Max shows up. Not because he shows up per se, but that's when she does. He just ends up being along on the trip after her attempt to rebel against the BAD guy.
It is definitely addressed. Go see it!!!! It's such a cool movie.
@@Starr_Apathy Good.
Her MO is always ultimately getting back to the green place and that’s all I can tell you, this is a must see.
They don't handle it, and they absolutely fail to establish the connection between her and the Immortan Joe. when you see Furiosa; you will be absolutely confused about WHY is she sent off so gloriously and with such respect by the Immortan Joe at the beginning of the Fury Road; it's left completely unadressed and confusing. The way she actually comes to the Citadel in "Furiosa" is some of the worst writing they possibly could've chosen to do; and the way she becomes a "warboy" is just hilariously contrived.
This COULD have been good; especially because the Immortan isn't "a bad guy" per se; not in the context of that world. The world of Fury Road is a world in which everyone is insane because of the cruelty of the situation. It would have been very easy to write Furiosa into siding with Joe and then gradually realising the kind of a man he is, but they don't do that. They just ignore all the character building done in Fury Road and do no character building here at all.
@@codinghusky5196 She’s shown in multiple instances to demonstrate clarity and leadership in front of the Immortan that eclipses that of both the Bullet Farmer and People Eater. Joe isn’t stupid, she may be out of turn but he respects that she brings something to the table and isn’t scared to let him know it. Without her efforts Dementus may have taken the Citadel. Joe sees how she’s both ruthless and intelligent, those are qualities the other members of his circle don’t have at once, that’s why he reveres her. She still hates him because he keeps women as breeders. So freeing them became a side-quest for her returning to the Green Place. Remember she’s from the Vuvalini, the Many Mothers. It’s extremely personal for her to see Joe’s twisted idea of motherhood.
Remember this please, I'm Jerome Helion and what I have to say is that all politicians right, left and including 3rd party candidates should not have a say in the entertainment business at all. Because a lot of these things are boring.
What frustrates me about her arc - is that had she only remained hidden from their view at the beginning, none of the trauma that she endured during the movie would have happened,
you always talk about "Entertainment", as if Cinema was only "Entertainment"
The best Movies ever are not only entertaining, but are inspiring, thought-provoking, making you feel what different human experiences are.
"Entertainment" is only the icing on top. It's not why I love movies
100% agree that’s why the best movies work on all levels. Movies like The Godfather deep and entertaining, Citizen Kane, Call Me By Your Name etc
I actually think this movie was better than Fury road and I love that movie. This one was very different and focused more on character and world-building rather than just action and spectacle. I was also impressed by the actress who plas young Furiosa. There are tons of memorable characters and great performances in this movie but Chris Hemsworth steals the show.
the geniusness of Fury Road was that the world building was through endless action. It made my mind blown away by without spoon me. You felt the point of view of each character and their motives through little information.
I'm gonna play the hell out of the 2015 Mad Max game again since it shared so much of its imagery and lore bits from Fury Road, Furiosa, and the pre Fury Road story by Vertigo Comics. Ohhh it's all tied together so nicely
I think one thing that could’ve been fixed was that, when furiosa got taken as a kid, she never screamed, never tried to fight back and the one time she tried to escape she never tried to shout or scream for help when she got grabbed again
Along with that she never screamed when her mother died in front of her
Or tried to escape from dementus when Joe’s men were grabbing the bikes in the little fight demntus had with joe and the machine that had furiosa was being taken
Instead she ended up staying in the thing and didn’t try to escape
Seems weird to me in that part ngl
Also I wish we got to see more of the war between joe and dementus at the end
Would’ve been so amazing to have seen!
Bruh change the thumbnail
You forgot Ripley in Aliens
Honestly if a character is written and acted well, their gender ceases to matter to me. If i think theyre badass then thats just what they are BadAss.
I've been on the fence for all the reasons you listed. I am going tonight!
Best movie I've seen in theatre's for a long while. Let the snowflakes miss out on a good time.
Ahaha
This is the kind of "Girl Boss" I want in my movies 👏
Ahahaha
Seeing it in Dolby Cinema this monday. Super excited!
I've always watch Anime because Japanese Entertainment do even make Strong Female Characters compelling enough with "Service" 😊 as a cherry on top
The first rule of TV and movies in 2024: if it has Anya Taylor joy in it, you watch it
Ahahaha
New Mutants though.....
Looking foward to Dune 3, hope her role is faithful to the books ifyouknowwhatimean
Here's the thing - I can't judge the cgi but mad max has never been political(I mean it has been political in the sense of it being based on the cold war in a post nuclear apocalypse but that isn't to be construed as modern politics of feminism etc that movies and reviewers fall into nowadays).
Here's a short diatribe:- fury road is genuinely one of the best stories of all time. Max loses his humanity is reduced to a single instinct of survival. You see him like an animal while he wears a mask and has no care for furiosa and the wives. He refuses to even reveal his name Through furiosa he learns trust and regains his lost humanity, and furiosa learns(from Max) not to run from her problems but to face them head on. When they work together society flusters
It's a deep character study and unlike other action movies the general audience does not get it because they need exposition.
For example when the warboy screams witness me and jumps on a car you learn 3 things from that scene alone:- There's a culture of sacrificing yourself for glory There's a higher figure and a reward in the afterlife And that these youngsters are brainwashed
Any other director would have explained this stuff through dialogue but not Miller who paints a story visually not through dialogue
Another example is the blood transfusion scene at the end between max and furiosa. There's no explanation because we see max nux get blood from Max in a similar fashion and the audience can infer through that
Another example is when nux steals Max's shoes or when max takes furiosas guns. These items are returned to their respective owners once max learns to trust them and let's go of his survival instinct and becomes human again
It's a story about a man who has forgotten his own name and humanity and who gains it back by trusting others.
Every single scene is jam packed with story telling and there's no filler. For example the old woman gives a wife seeds. Bullets are called anti seed. It's not spelled out because the film follows a fundamental Assumption: i.e Our audience is smart and they can infer our message through little hints that need no excessive explanation.
I can keep going but you get the point
People compare mad max to fast and furious type stuff. In films like F&f or John wick, there's action then there's a pause to develop character and then the action continues. Whereas in mad max the action is the story
Furiosa was written long before fury road even began filming. It's not like Miller wanted to make a feminist film, it's just that he made a film and people attached their own ideologies to it. It's not like the rings of power where a huge corporation went against the fans and the story to fuel an ideology. This is the Creator of the franchise making a film he always wanted to make.
Its Miller not your average Hollywood Director.
It's not 2 hours and 40 minutes long. The runtime is listed as 2hrs 28min. I was watching my watch and the film started at 7:05 and the credits rolled at 9:32.
Saw this this morning with my mom. Went to a 10 am show. First show on SAT is half price near me. It was $16.50us for 2 adults.
You've never seen Amsterdam and Last Night in Soho if you've never seen a bad Anya Taylor Joy performance?
Terrible movies.
A lot of people said Last Night in Soho was good and Amsterdam was seen as OK
I thoroughly enjoyed last night in soho
Last Night In Soho was good, Amsterdam was terrible (honestly, Anya didn't really do much in that movie)
New Mutants was garbage too
maybe we will finally get a new mad max game .. the last one was awesome
I never played it! Do you recommend
@@thejessegrant yes. excellent car combat. it grinds sometimes but I have played it twice. its so cool to max out max and the car. lots of crazy characters. enjoy
Yeah i was kinda annoyed when the said the next mad max was gonna be a strong women, but honestly it was really fucking good. She was badass without them making it cringe af to say she is a badass..
I saw it, thanx to this review. It was a nice refreshing dose of good action movie with engaging storytelling. Highly recommend watching it!
Anya taylor joy does it better, way better.
This is a prequel in more ways than one, many easter eggs n links to other movies.
AND YES MAD MAX DOES MAKE A CAMEO
Good to hear it's not more girlboss crap .. but the title is still quite stupid .. should have just called "Furiosa" .. calling a movie Madmax when Max isn't in it is a bit misleading and suggest they had no confidence in the character to stand on her two feet.
Ahahah I see why they technically called it Furiosa then just added it’s part of mad max after but seriously just make it Furiosa ahaha. Im guessing the mad max in the title helps the box office
He is in it for like 3 seconds.
Same. I was surprised how good the movie is. I went to see it with reservations but as a female lead movie it was actually quite good. It's a brutal, dark hero's journey.
I keep seeing in comments that people don't care to acknowledge the movie is not what people think, and people still want to hate on it anyways cuz it still stars a female protagonist instead of... Mad Max.
Well that's what they could expect by using his name in the title but not having the main character in the movie.
@@origami83 Well the movie is called Furiosa, thats the title...and it's set in the mad max world...hence "a Mad Max Saga" ... nothing confusing about that.
I'm fine with branching out to explore new characters in that world. But if they continue, I expect to see the feral child and his great northern tribe.
@@jozefrockatansky1588 Well most people obviously arent as smart as you.
I mean, that eould make sense if you have a mental disability that impedes you from reading, because the title is "FURIOSA - a mad max saga" meaning that the movie is set in the same universe. I swear, braindead antifeminist are just as restarted as the feminist they complain about.
Another female lead film in a male based franchise, so brave
U a joker
I wanna see a new movie of mad max starring Max R
The next one will be Max focused, the story is already there, just needs to be filmed.
@@jozefrockatansky1588 I'll believe it when I see it considering the last Mad Max movie didn't focus on Mad Max either
One thing I think should be up for discussion is the fact that they used face-morphing technology to make a young actor look more like Anya Taylor-Joy. It's interesting, but might be harmful to kids careers if they can't get their faces as something recognized for their next roles.
it will be wrost with AI generated characters in the future
I think the reason the movie did so bad at the box office is people didn’t want a badass female lead, least of all from Anya Taylor Joy. But I’m so happy I saw it in theaters, because the movie was amazing, and she didn’t blow me away, but she did her job and the movie is an awesome movie overall.
I do like the idea of spinoffs, but prequels I hate. Who wants to see a story that happened before the main story ? I want to see what happens next...
Mainly context. For example 'How did Bilbo get the Ring, what adventure was Gandalf talking about involving Bilbo and a dragon' or 'How did Anakin become Darth Vader'. These are questions that, if done right, can produce great stories. Hell, Rogue One proves that.
I don't even watch movies anymore. But in the context of today's socio-politics, I hate especially prequels. There are only 3 motives Predowood produce prequels, sometimes the 3 motives are valid at the same time.
1: exploit IP the way you squeeze blood out of a dried up, brittle-to-dust stone.
2: they screwed up sequels so much to kill the IP the only leeway left to them is prequels.
3: they screwed up sequels so much they need prequels to recontextualize the whole IP and justify the modern day ideology that killed the IP, robbing OG characters' creativity and coolness and heroism to give credit and elevate new "prequel" characters, because the "prequels" do it "better" and "first" before the OGs, with engaging visuals thanks to modern day advanced technology.
@little_dandelion so...they screwed up the original Star Wars trilogy...that's what you're saying.
I mean godfather part 2 was a thing and so was better call saul and rdr2
@@colvamoon6962 Rogue One is an interesting exception to the rule of "prequels suck" because, with the exception of Tarkin, it doesn't have any characters with plot armour. Furiosa... is going to survive "furiosa", along with all the named characters except ONE, which is like 80% of the enjoyment of that movie - gone.
don't want ANOTHER female Mad Max
No one cares what you want.
@@darinherrick9224 go away6 asshole
@@darinherrick9224 nice... and I imagine you think that you are the cool, moral person and you say that to people... you're the one in the wrong not me... and there are six people that have agreed with me, so your statement is factually wrong
I was so glad that this film was not a forced on Girl Boss/Mary Sue film. George Miller knew that character comes first and made Furiosa just a normal person fighting for her life. And in this world's setting it makes sense that she had to be a strong women. Not just 'because' but for survival. Lastly, she is smart enough to work with others to get the job done. That is a female character I can get behind.
There are two moments in this movie that elevate Furiosa above every action heroine of the last decade: when she is captured as a child because she couldn't abandon her mother, and when she was captured as an adult because she couldn't abandon her lover. She had the chance to escape and pursue her own happiness, but instead chose to run headlong into insurmountable danger for the ones she loved. An actual heroine, who endured realistic consequences for making the right choice.
Early female badass nobody mentions from 1979: Doctor Who's Romanadvoratrelundar.
Damnit I’m early😭
We both have to wait around until everyone else shows up. :(

According to George Miller, the movie covers 18 years. So if Furiosa is 10 years old at the start, Mad Max Fury Road happens when she is about 28.
The weird thing is I've been playing the Mad Max videogame again recently, and it has a surprisingly good plot and characters in it - including Max. It also takes itself pretty damn seriously, too. I remember seeing a teaser trailer for it ( which looked _awful_ ) and then picking it up later after seeing the glowing Steam reviews
The script and concept art for Furiosa existed before Fury Road even started filming, and the game used a lot of these materials. The game ripped from the movie, not the other way around (although both are fantastic)
This is where we are that an ok movie is cosdered awesome because Hollywood is creatively bankrupt.
That's what I'm thinking... These cut scenes are loaded with too much CGI.
I talk about the CGI in the review amongst the negatives
Did you, actually see the movie?
Just say you hate women and move on
Ridiculous
It pains me that these Holywood "strong female characters" are painted as "feminist". They aren't. Feminism is not about putting men down or belittling them, looking at you Indiana Jones 5 or lady Doctor Who.
Omg I was just in cinema and watched it, and this was exactly what I thought, we dont need "She Hulk" we need women that are not scared to show that they might not be that strong physically as men, we need women that are showing their natural strenght in different ways and this movie portrays the strenght of women SO WELL! The never ending fight for survival, great way of handling guns, smart mind and fearless actions. That's what its about, we dont need to do it "the same way" as men, we can be ourselves and still be a badass, no need to be ashamed that a man double the size will overpower a woman.
Just saw this tonight. I actually enjoyed that they gave so much time to her childhood. CGI had some pretty weak moments, unfortunately, but overall was good enough to mostly not distract from the movies' stronger aspects.
Personally I'm just gonna stop reading/writing about female characters altogether.
Strong female characters are tomboys not girlboses!
Same thing. A girl trying to be man just different take
All female leads are Mary Sues now, even when they try not to be. The current political climate has made it impossible to have a female lead be taken any other way.
Not necessarily, i think female characters can be strong and badass while being femenine and sexy.
@@mirror8519Totally agree!
I liked Mad Max Fury Road and I want to see this new movie too. My only real issue is Fury Road seemed a bit like a bait and switch. Just because I like the new character Furiosa doesn’t mean I no longer want to see or think they should no longer make Mad Max proper movies. Why should we have to choose between the two? If I have to choose I’ll choose Mad Max proper any day of the week.
Furiosa remains more in line with the likes of Sarah Connor and Ellen Ripley. Not some badass female cliche character meant to show that "women can do it!" just as well. She's even cast as gaunt rather than STRONK FEMALE becuz she hasn't been living off luxuries growing up at Joe's Citadel. She's just a person trying to survive and make it home. And whilst she excels with the gun and driving later on, she receives mostly quite a beating else. So much so that she eventually loses an arm in the process. Don't think that's a spoiler at this point. ;)
It would be pretty cool irony though if the peeps boycotting this movie because supposedly "woke / feminist propaganda" wouldn't get the Max film next that was planned to complete the "Fury Road" story. Because that's what this entire prequel thing was meant to be about from the go, with the stories already written when Fury Road started filming.
They still used the Mad Max name. So he was gender swapped as the lead in his own franchise.
Max is in the movie for 10 seconds, along with the V8 interceptor.
The movie is called Furiosa...and it's set in the mad max world, hence the subtitle, a "Mad Max Saga"...so no, not gender swapped, just a story set in the same world...and Max has barely been the lead in his own franchise since the first movie remember, other characters play just as much important roles as he does throughout Road Warrior and Thunderdome, and it's those characters stories that he wanders into...not sure why people are getting so confused with the title.
Cry then
If you want Max in a movie, try Hope and Glory the Mad Max fan film released this year. It's on youtube free.
@@jozefrockatansky1588 exactly. so many people caught up on the title
This is proof that we hate bad writing, not strong women
Or both
The last movie was so bad that I have no interest in seeing this one.
Just because they took the time to craft a more interesting character doesn’t mean it’s an F you to Hollywood feminism.
If anything it’s showing writers what audiences respond better too, which results in better portrayals of women on screen, which is very feminist….
The thesis of this video falls apart pretty quickly once you think a bit critically.
