Personally I enjoyed that beautiful dark veneer way more than any shabby chic distressed look no matter how well executed, I was hoping it would've been restored to originality but still well done.

Not a restoration. Painting and playing with your toys does not make it so. Only a few people would have the finished cupboard in their house. It is not a popular style.
Fez um trabalho tão cuidadoso e profissional, mas não gostei dessa pintura "manchada". Deixou o móvel com aparência de sujeira.

That's not a restoration, it's a remodel. Restoration is just that, RESTORE to as close to the original as possible.

Редкая безвкусица. Испортил нормальный шкаф, который можно было восстановить. Превратил его в колхозный деревенский ящик. Выбрось его теперь на помойку.
