Yeah, to all those complaining about his accent - your comments reflect more on your inability to listen and understand than his ability with english. His speech was perfectly clear, and this was a very good video that took me back to high school chemistry class. Thankyou.
+lazaglider First off, i can understand that other non english speakers that are less fluent would be completely unable to understand anything he's saying. Secondly, it IS bad. You can not tell me that someone with articulation that poor and an english accent that bad, is able to speak english properly. It REALLY isn't that hard to get rid of an accent either. I can speak american, brittish, scottish, australian, and russian accents almost flawlessly, to the point where, when i was in scotland, i tried talking to some of the locals there, and they had a hard time telling if i was scottish or not. If it reflects anything, it is him being either unwilling or unable to learn the language properly... Having said that, this WAS a great video, and i really enjoyed it. But i would really recommend working on your accent, as it WILL get you a lot more subscribers. You'd be amazed how many people hate others who have a different accent than the common australian, american and british ones... -_- I'm sorry if you interpreted this as a bit harsh, but it's youtube. Expect people to be total dicks about everything that isn't perfect. :/
+Drackon Your first argument has no point and makes no sense. Ofc if you don't speak english yourself you don't understand what he is saying since he is speaking english. I agree, his accent isn't very clearly but i think everybody that can speak english understood atleast 95% of what he said.
The cool thing about crystals (well, one of them) is that when you see them grow big like that, you basically can see the way their molecules are structured on a large scale. Like that table salt cube, it's basically a large-scale grain of salt. I love it.
When we did this in school ages ago, I was probably the kid, who was the most excited about this... I wanted a big blue crystal, but I was an idiot. Some of the other students weren't at all interested, so they let me take their solution as well to mix with mine... but they were two different solutions, resulting in my crystal never growing. :( I should do a retake on this one of these days... I can't complete my life withing growing a nice big crystal! lol
Daniel Renard I read this during the last part of the video with the dramatic music and my god, was it the most emotional thing I've come across today....
for people who cant understand.... the process is basically, -dissolve salt of your choice into a hot solvent until it become a saturated solution -filter the solution to get rid of impurity -add some salt as seed and wait for crystallization to happen. -after crystallization have occur, extract the crystal and choose a suitable crystal for further crystallization. -tied that crystal into a rig that allow it to be suspended into the saturated solution for further crystallization to increase its size. -filter the solution daily to keep any impurity from mixing into the crystal. -extract the crystal once it reach a suitable size and apply clear nail polish or any kind of vanishes for protection of the crystal. but what i want to know is, how do you made that cube? does the type of salt determine the shape?
+Luke Rustin Exactly, crystals grow into shapes that resemble the shape of their repeating unit for the simple reason that that is what they are made of.
crystal particles are made up of 1 shape, which likes to attach to other molecules of the same shape. This results in a larger version of these molecules that we can see. For instance, if the molecule was a triangle, 4 of them would make a bigger triangle that to us would be a tiny triangle spec in the solution. This is the reason that impurities need to be removed, because if a hexagon got in there too then we would not have a triangle crystal, it would be distorted.
Its easy to understand what he is saying because he has good english. You just have to listen intently cos he has such a thick accent sometimes it sounds like he is saying different words than he actually is.
Fantastic video! As a side note, many native English speakers do so very poorly and do it knowingly. I understood you without any trouble. At times, native English speakers show such a complete lack of pride in their own language that it comes out sounding unintelligible anyway. Anyone who mocks your use of English at all really should be impressed with your ability to speak more than just Russian in the first place and ashamed for poking fun at all. Thanks for the video!
Thank you Sir ! I had a just talked about doing this experiment 45 years ago. Once I saw your title I thought I would take a refresher course that you did an excellent job. Now let me find what I was really looking for !
I did this experiment when I was a kid. Now I know why my crystals did not grow.. I was always curious. Thanks for the video. I cannot imagine why any one would hit dislike..
Great video ! Your accent actually makes it sound more scientific! But for those of us who are beginners, would be cool to read subtitles or a list of materials to use. Keep the videos coming! Greetings from Brazil
OMG! Crystal dice-set! That is what i will make next! (Tip! Instead of using nail polish i will use resin to make surface hard enough for throwing dices in rpg/games/etc.) Thanks dude for the advice and idea!
Listening to your voice is so much more satisfying than looking at the crystals grow. Also, i like your videos because the video thumbnails you use aren't clickbait
BIt too late but anyway - i bought it at first drugs store I visited - it could be used to prepare some garden solutions. But maybe try to find out if it have any well know name in your language.
Great accent !This is so cool !I guess this is just a primitive version of how synthetic gemstones are grown?do you know if there are things you can add or maybe change the temperature to get different colors ?Thanks for the tutorial !
different salts produce different crystals. Some ammonium salts are yellow orange in color permaganate salts are usually blue but also the salt itself will have different shapes depending on the chemicals like most chlorides are in a cubic structure
What type of accent do you suppose it is? He is clearly from eastern Europe, and since a lot of beautiful blue copper sulfate crystals are coming out of Poland currently that is my guess. Even though this is by definition "laboratory grown" a beautiful 50 gram average multifaceted crystal on some form of substrate can be purchased for about $15.00 on E-bay. These all come out of Poland, but there is some guy in the Czech republic selling a mix of the copper sulfate and sodium chloride to get the cube effect crystals in blue and then selling them as Linarite, which is quite rare in beautiful flawless states like those pictured in this video. A 2.4 Lb "Chanthracite" crystal grown like the one in this video, but started with multiple large seeds on some rocky substrate and then allowed to grow for months goes for over a hundred dollars. There are so many various crystal that can be grown in your house; although, some use poisonous solutions. Alum is supposed to be a nice starter, and I am going to experiment. Ultimately I would love to grow a massive blue cluster of crystals like the one pictured in this video and also combine some other crystals such as the cube salt. It would look just like a several thousand dollar specimen. I have found the perfect base to grow my crystal on.
Hi there Thoisoi, I've been growing my own crystals but got some very rare results that I would like to comment them with you. First, in your video you said your copper sulfate crystal took you 2 months to grow 6.5 cm long, but mine took just two weeks, in fact in a single night, it grew almost 33% of its final growth state after I "feed" it (I like to think I'm feeding it) with some saturated solution. Second I've been unable to obtain a nice potassium chloride seed, all I can seem to get in my solution is "needle-like" crystals, not cubic ones. On my first try, I got multiple nice little cubes, I then choose the bigger one, but after making a second saturated solution, this "needle-like" crystals its all I got, so I guess I'm doing something wrong. Third, my potassium allum its growing flat, top and bottom, not rhomboid (I think thats the final shape). I'm also growing some potassium ferricyanide ones, but no further comments on those ones so far. My best regards.
First, thank you for a very interesting video, and I appreciate your advice on lacquering the crystals for preservation, Secondly, as an American, I apologize for some of the rude comments made by my countrymen. Thank you again for your presentation.
Thank you very much for the explanatory video with such valuable demonstrations. I have a question: What about the thread? Won't it remain inside the grown crystal, thereby "ruining" its some of its beauty?
i love your crystal growing videos and i'd love to make crystals like you did with that type of salt but i dont have any and i dont have any type of salt like that or borax or alum salt so i tried to use Morton's salt and it sort of worked and my crystal is still growing and i hope you do more cool videos.👍
Small amounts on the skin wouldn't be toxic, though I have sensitive skin so I wouldn't do it. Copper sulfate is an irritant. Also, if you accidentally touch your eyes it could mean a trip to the ER.
Essentially, the hot water that dissolves the Copper Sulphate Pentahydrate is a supersaturated solution because of the increased temperature. When the water cools, it is unable to hold all of the dissociated particles, so they precipitate into the first "seed" crystals. From there the dissolved particles continue to bond to the larger crystal, and voila.
this is so interesting !! actually my chemistry teacher just introduced crystals to us, and also encouraged us to do the experiment at home, the fact is i do not have CuSO4 ,is it possible to make a big crystal with barely normal salt ???
great video. one question.. have you tried to shape the first crystal to see if it follows the pattern when growing? for example, if you carve (with very precise instruments) an helix on the sides, will it mimic that shape and grow with an enlarged version of that?
Understanding what you hear and interpreting it is a skill that is acquired. So it is understandable that some people can't understand others. The first and last time I called customer support the only thing I found out is I have trouble with heavy Indian accents. Thanks to Hank Azaria's incredible work in bringing Apu Nahasapeemapetilons character to life. I understood when they said "thank you" and "again". This goes to show that stereotypes can be quite helpful. With all that said, I 100% understand you. These people just aren't listening. Turn up the volume people. hehe.
@JoJoke 's No, you just accept that string inside crystal is the price of growing it. If you don't want the string inside you need to put crystal on the bottom of the container with solution but then it's not going to grow as nice as it does hanging by string.
I suppose you could try adding a few metal beads in the beaker for the initial crystallization and then using one with a bead inside as the seed. Then set up a form of magnetic suspension to hold the seed at the desired position.
Want a life hack? Do the same thing except: Don't put nail polish on it. Use sugar instead of salt, and this time it doesn't matter if you get impurities, because you're making rock candy!!!
@@vivimannequin many organic compounds are also forming crystal structures. One time I synthesized cinnamon aldehyde and it crystallized when put into an ice bath. A crystal structure is just a nearly perfectly even arrangement of small particles in form of repeating units (elementary cell). Those particles can either be atoms (elementary crystals, e.g. alpha-iron with a cubic-cell-centered structure), ions (components of a salt, e.g. the cubic-face-centered structure of NaCl), or molecules (e.g. the hexagonal structure of frozen water). Even bigger systems, coordination polymers, metal-organic frameworks and alumosilicates like zeolithes can be described by a certain crystal structure when measured by röntgen single crystal diffraction (sometimes even a microcrystalline powder is enough).
+Selim mousa hahaha I'm German and understood everything too. maybe native speakers don't know the trouble and don't try hard enough to understand him?
I tried this, everything is going fine, but the moment I put my seed crystal in, a million crystals started appearing all over the place, on the string, on all sides of the seed, EVERYWHERE. I am sure the result will still be nice, but there's no way I will get just a single crystal. Why would this happen? I filtered the water. Maybe I should have used distilled water? Water here is chlorinated and also pretty crappy in terms of cleanliness. There are no visible impurities, but still...
Supposingly if your water source is dirty, make sure not too much other minerals comes with it. As you said, I think the amount of metal salt in your water was so much it started forming unwanting crystals. :/
1. Increase the solution temperature, as close to boiling as possible. 2. Decrease the rate of cooling. For example by using a foam cup or wrapping beaker with an insulating cloth. 3. Minimise the amount of of string exposed to the solution. It would be nice if anyone who applies these variations can reply or, better yet upload their videoed results to let us know how you go. Good luck!
Do not use a super saturated solution. Calculate how much CuSO4 you can dissolve in your volume of water, add 0,5 mL of water after dissolution of the salt and then add your seed crystal. Also: remove impurities by filtration and make sure your beakers/evaporating dishes are super clean.
Frank Dirosato might not be a good idea since its material is an irritant and bad for skin to touch. Though, might not be as bad with a good layer of nail polish, but still, would not recommend.
Frank Dirosato its toxic it can't touch the skin for long periods of time, im thinking in making one for my future wife so she can put it on her desk like a souvenir or something like that but not to wear it don't give a toxic thing to those who you love... kryptonite is beautiful in sight but superman can't stand it; is not the same thing but is similar, giving her chemical crystals will hurt her skin but the love of your mother won't let her tell you i don't like it it irritates my skin...
If you don’t have access to copper sulfate, I went ahead and made some copper acetate and combined it with some homemade calcium acetate at a ratio of 1:4 and made it supersaturated by boiling the solution, and in the end, it produced some seed crystals that are about the same color as the copper sulfate. I am growing them right now and they look pretty awesome so far! Looks like a lot of work, but it is pretty simple. :)
i had almost no problems understanding him, and i'm not even native. It's about the same difficulty than those videos from the indian institute of technology.
and still you watch it to the end, if I can understand you can do too - or do not watch it and found somewhere online same experiment made by person who will speak language of your choice, believe me some people speak more then one language (or read description under video)
What a rude comment! Instead of criticizing, focus on learning from the video. It clearly says to turn on the subtitles at the beginning. He is Russian, thus his accent.
Yeah, to all those complaining about his accent - your comments reflect more on your inability to listen and understand than his ability with english. His speech was perfectly clear, and this was a very good video that took me back to high school chemistry class.

Billy Corners he speaks better English than a lot of people who speak only English lol
Native spanish speaker here. Understood every single word 👌🏻
It's Russian
I don't know why native english speaking people don't understand him, I'm mexican and I understand him perfectly
his accent is different to us, we are more adapted to 's' sound in our accent

TruChaosTV i think we watched too much breaking bad
How can you made a ferfect cube of NaCl and KCl ?
my question is how does he get the string out?
Asap_Pheonix Leader of the Asap_ clan you don't
Ohhhh ok thanks
Asap_Pheonix Leader of the Asap_ clan colored nilon?
Ze crystals ar fun
*_Fucking hell lmao_*
👍
Crystal collectors would like these in their collections.
Want a life hack?
Do the same thing except:
Don't put nail polish on it. Use sugar instead of salt, and this time it doesn't matter if you get impurities, because you're making rock candy!!!
sugar won't work because you will just get a sugary water
+Nadiah Dono no it will work. You just have to stop the crystal step an just tie a string into sugar water.
I'm sure sugar isn't a salt 😑
Presented by Borat crystals :D
does anybody else think he sounds like Borat?? -nice video, very informative, much respect.
Don't know what all the bull comments are about, I understood him fine.
same
I Am Egyptian , My English Is Not Very Good But I Understood Every Thing He Said
+Lord Neko because some people have trouble understanding accents
+Selim mousa hahaha I'm German and understood everything too. maybe native speakers don't know the trouble and don't try hard enough to understand him?
+Kessik8 I grew up in America and i understood everything. Idk if they are just making jokes or they actually cannot understand.
Ri Max I have the same problem. Have you found any solutions?
Good luck!
Ri Max its because you have impurities
Do not use a super saturated solution. Calculate how much CuSO4 you can dissolve in your volume of water, add 0,5 mL of water after dissolution of the salt and then add your seed crystal. Also: remove impurities by filtration and make sure your beakers/evaporating dishes are super clean.
Can I use normal salt and use food coloring to get a different color, because white is boring
sounds like one of those crazy german scientists from the movies :D but with russian accent
I watch this for the accent...
+Kon Jamo I came for the commentz! Lol
Loved the crystallization.
Helped me in my projects too.
I am here just to hear him speaking English
blue crystals ... breaking bad?
Beautiful! Thank you for the detailed instructions.
I want to make this into a necklace for my mom on Mother's Day like if you think this is a good idea
Frank Dirosato might not be a good idea since its material is an irritant and bad for skin to touch. Though, might not be as bad with a good layer of nail polish, but still, would not recommend.
Good point but I still really want to do it
Frank Dirosato its toxic it can't touch the skin for long periods of time, im thinking in making one for my future wife so she can put it on her desk like a souvenir or something like that but not to wear it don't give a toxic thing to those who you love... kryptonite is beautiful in sight but superman can't stand it; is not the same thing but is similar, giving her chemical crystals will hurt her skin but the love of your mother won't let her tell you i don't like it it irritates my skin...
Russian Accent + English captions = fucking 10000% accurate
American Accent + English captions = fucking 20% accurate.
Tf?
Thank you for posting this. I enjoyed seeing your process on how to make big crystals.
"2,5 moths of my life"
Seems a reasonable timr
he sounds as if he died yesterday
LOL I know, I can't understand him
+hafsa Bukhari but at least he is trying...
+MarinOS2107 Because he is Russian?
+MarinOS2107 His voice is beautiful.
Paulie Paulovič ;) bs he is Ukrainian dude there's a difference
If you don’t have access to copper sulfate, I went ahead and made some copper acetate and combined it with some homemade calcium acetate at a ratio of 1:4 and made it supersaturated by boiling the solution, and in the end, it produced some seed crystals that are about the same color as the copper sulfate. I am growing them right now and they look pretty awesome so far! Looks like a lot of work, but it is pretty simple. :)
I want to cut the blue one into a tear drop and name it Lapis.
reminder you made this 8 years ago :3
Сразу слышно русский акцент.
Так и есть)
I really enjoy your video. You should write book so people like me who flunked chemistry can learn to make something like that.
"take se string and put it in ze cup of glass.zen u need to wait a coupel of houres"
+רועי סמוחה hahaha xD
Are you drunk?
no, he is russian (almost the same thing :D
)
That's called the "Vodka-accent"... Commen to Russians and Eastern-Eurodrunk peoples.! Also known as Eurochoholicks...
It's actually called the Borat accent
***** I'm Eastern European and I just laughed my ass off :DD
no hes just sounds like a Russian Stephen Hawking
For some reason I really love this video :) remember watching it some time ago and finding it fascinating then as well!
No, english is not yours, better do in russian, or place subtitles
Твой ник говорит что ты русский
Блин, спалился
i had almost no problems understanding him, and i'm not even native. It's about the same difficulty than those videos from the indian institute of technology.
i actually had to turn on captions
no one should ever have to turn on closed captions
ever
IT WORKS! I PUT MY CRYSTAL IN THE BOX FOR 46 DAYS! ITS HUGE!
I didn't understand ONE word you just said...
and still you watch it to the end, if I can understand you can do too - or do not watch it and found somewhere online same experiment made by person who will speak language of your choice, believe me some people speak more then one language (or read description under video)
A Creeshtel every veek
Wow, very useful to me . Thanks
wtf did he say sounds like hes drunk !!
AlphaBetta9 TITAN beacouse he is Russian
What a rude comment! Instead of criticizing, focus on learning from the video. It clearly says to turn on the subtitles at the beginning. He is Russian, thus his accent.
%Alpha %Savage just rude, how cant you understand anything i can understand everything
